maybe the answer is here somewhere, but although I tried hard... I wasn't able to find a satisfactory answer.
I'm deciding to buy the TF, and my target is to use it instead of a laptop, for writing e-mails and processing text, etc.
However, being from Slovenia I'm not sure I'll be very happy with it as I understand there are problems with the dock keyboard layout which does not support slovenian specific characters.
Also, I suppose if I buy it now I'll get a newer version which can not be rooted atm so in this moment I could not remap the keys manually.
Or is there any other solution that you happy TF owners can share with me?
Which layouts are supported that can be used with the dock keyboard?

Hi guys, this is my first thread in XDA!
Been lurking around a bit though the past couple of weeks and let me point out how amazing this community is!
OK so here is my query (sorry if this has been posted here before):
I'm a Swede, living in Sweden. I've ordered the SNS (my first android device so bare with me) from the USA and it should arrive sometime next week.
I know that the phone doesn't come with any support for the Swedish language. My guess is that they just want to make it harder for retailers to grey import the phone to a region where it shouldn't be sold (even though it will be sold in Sweden soon...).
So, is it possible to add support for the Swedish language somehow? (Keyboard, dictionary, system language...etc).
If so, how do I do it? I've seen some keyboard apps (pre-Gingerbread keyboard) for the Swedish language on the market but some of them don't work with Gingerbread and most of them seem to come with a lot of bugs (except for Swype). Also, I would need a dictionary, and the system language is nice but not crucial.
Isn't there a better way?
Thanks in advance guys!

Hi, a swede with the NSN here as well
To my knowledge, there are no way to get native swedish language support on the stock rom. The "nödlösning", that actualy works quite well is to use a third party keybord. I'm using Swiftkey, that has a swedish dictionary and swedish text prediction.
But if someone know about a way to get a swedish stock gingerbread keyboard, I would be delighted to hear.
Thanks for the reply
I guess I'll have to use either Swiftkey or Swype. If anyone knows another solution I would be happy to hear it

Hi,
This weekend I bought a HTC Flyer and I'm so happy. There is one thing though that's killing me...
I also bought a Bluetooth keyboard so I can write faster when I write large texts etc. The thing is though that I can't change the keyboard layout to German (even if the Keyboard has a physical layout of German, the software keyboard layout is still English).
I can't find anything under the "Languages and Keyboard" settings so I'm currently a bit desperate.
How can I get my German configured android system to understand to use a "Germany layout keyboard" and not a "English layout"?
I really hope that someone can support me here...
Thanks
Hirrsson
PS: Please consider that I'm really a android newbie so I don't understand all the terms etc yet....
hello there to everyone
as this is my first post on this forum, i'd like to take this line to thank all of you whom share information, knowledge, and whatnot to all others: Thank You.
posting here to request the same informtion: pairing an external bluetooth keyboard forces said keyboard to be in english layout, whatever the keyboard. (in my case: french).
In locale the bluetooth keyboard does appears, offering Three settings, but none regarding layout.
I personaly see this as a feature that is lacking due to the fact that the os is intended to be primarily used via touchscreen keyboard; but i also think this feature is needed big time. now heading to official android feature request to see if it has been added to newer versions (am runing 2.3) and if not, request it.
I did this for my Stowaway Keyboard. It is a lot of work, you need root on your device, rootexplorer and Hexeditor.
I can guide you through if you wish.
Which phone? Which keyboard? What has to be changed? öäü? y-z ???

I don't know if this is an original question, I just joined the site, and reading through this forum convinced me that this is the tablet I am looking for.
I just began studying Japanese this quarter, and I would love to be able to augment my studying with the Galaxy Note 10.1.
Obviously this device does not only ship to the US, so I am sure it recognize other language input. Practicing writing sentences will of course not be a problem. What I want to know is if the device will recognize the kana and print it to the screen. I feel that it can be a great practice tool for perfecting my writing if the software can identify it.
Is it as simple as changing the keyboard language? Will I need to root my device?
I'm studying Japanese as well, but I don't see the option to input kana. The only East Asian input languages I could download for the keyboard was Korean and Chinese. There's no download for Japanese language. It's so disappointing! I have the US Wi-Fi version of the Note 10.1 (N8013), though. The international version might have Japanese input but I don't know for sure.
You could always try using a 3rd party keyboard from the Play Store, however, they may not have handwriting recognition. So I'd parse through the app store before you go out and buy one.
If you're using a language from the default list in the settings menu (there's not too many in the list), there is no need to root. All you have to do is download the font from the Settings menu.
I hope I didn't confuse you or anything...
EDIT:
I did a quick Google search and someone had recommended downloading MultiLing Keyboard + the Japanese plug-in + the HanWriting system to get Japanese handwriting input OR you can purchase an app called 7notes with mazec (Japanese). MultiLing is free and 7notes costs $10.47 (there is a trial version but that's Japanese only). I would post links but I can't since I'm a newbie. D:
I'm gonna test out the MultiLing one first, then the 7notes trial since the latter is quite expensive.
Yes, you can write and read japanese in almost any app, even you can set japanese as the main language if you want. (all the menus and options will appear in japanese).
The default keyboard (samsung keyboard) doesn't have japanese as writing language, but no problem, just use any third party keyboard with japanese support, I use (and recommend) Multiling Keyboard (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.klye.ime.latin), it has plugins for japanese and handwriting (works very well with the spen)
And there are good learning apps for writing in japanese, like Hiragana Learning Experiment (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.legendarya.helloandroid) that can help you to improve your writing skills.
No root is required at all.
Thank you for the replies. This is perfect.
I use 7 notes with mazec (Japanese) - it is some notes application that I don't use, but it also installs a japanese keyboard with handwriting recognition for kana and kanji (and also romanji and numbers). Looks like samsung handwriting keyboard and works very well. Well worth its price (and there is free version to try):
7notes with mazec in play store
Is there any "keyboard" that will recognize input of handwritten kanji directly?
Japanese keyboards that I found all depend on kana input.

yep, have you tried Multiling Keyboard that I mentioned above?
No, but I did download the trial version of 7Notes with mazec and that seems ok for input of words and phrases but it still has ways to go before it handles sentences our word combinations. Also perhaps a little on the expensive side. I will use this for a week to see how I get along with it and the I'll try the Multiling keyboard, it just sounds like it requires downloading a lot of language specific files.
The Samsung keyboard on their Note series has good handwriting recognition and I noticed I could download Japanese as one of the supported languages. I did just that but I couldn't get it to recognize any kind of Japanese input.

Hello,
Is there already any methods to edit the standard keyboard layouts of the dock on JB? And if not yet, what can be done for it, and how can it be done?
I have purchased my TF300T hoping to create a new layout for my language using the solutions described here and here, but it came with 4.1 preinstalled, and it turned out that these solutions do not work with JB. Moreover, I know that currently I cannot go back from JB to ICS, so please help to understand how the layouts can be edited and modified.
I am pretty sure that if a solution cannot be found here in XDA Developers, it cannot be found anywhere )) Let's think about it a little in this thread, dear gurus, and find a way to fully "own" our tablets.
Please reply and keep this up, it is crucial for me to be able to make a keyboard layout for my language and be productive on-the-go; otherwise it is $400 spent for nothing ((
Thank you.
P.S. I will upoad here the (possible) layout files and paths, as soon as I have my tablet with me.

First, be careful with using threads relating to other tablets for things like rooting and such.
The only reason I find for having ICS was to gain root. Motochopper is popular on our tablet and appears to work for root on JB.
I am on JB also 10.4.2.20 and I find the keyboard mapping in a different directory than listed on your references.
/system/usr/xt9/databases/kdb is the location on my tablet.
Obviously I have no idea if this will work but you should now have enough to give it a try.
Good Luck!
Hi.
After spending hours and days searching for a right solution- this is where I hope to find one (although this is very "dumb" question- I am sure you realize that the answer does not exist- and I've looked everywhere!) :/
So, I need a budget android/IOS phone (touch screen ) with alphanumeric keyboard as a built in option (I do not want to download keyboard apps) and predict (which I guess should be common). I am currently using Sony Xperia mini (which has all nthis, but is too old and runs on 512Mb, and most importantly, can not have well functioning viber/skype). So, all I am asking from a phone is: alphanumeric keyboard (as I cannot use qwerty), more than 512Mb RAM (and memory good enough to have normal viber/skype calls), GPS optional.
So, what should I search for? Does alphanumeric keyboard depend on the version of Android? Or manufacturer?
Thanks very very very much!
Almost desperate
