Settings> applications> dialer> clear defaults...or something like that. I use dialer one as my default no problems...

Here is the contacts.apk that would be helpful if ported. All credit goes to InsaneNemesis at the Droid Forums who I pulled this from his Droid rom. If this could be ported I would be forever in your debt.
