The lack of external speaker volume on the mt4gs is appalling.
Coming from other HTC devices I never thought this to be even a concern. Clearly something is impeding the sound, be it physical or software related.
I was even more dismayed after hearing a friend's new Droid Bionic extra loud and him mentioning it was not even turned up all the way.
Any suggestions for a stock device? Just would enjoy hearing some rock and roll not sound like elevator music.
The kernel controls volume of the speakers mainly. Sense there is no kernel source I can't change those settings. And yes the speakers on HTC devices all suck ass.

G1 and Nexus 1 both don't seem to be nearly as poor as MT4GS in the external speaker volume. All are HTC.
It seems almost like the developers of the software left it in a low mode for the build pushed out to everyone.
I can boost the volumes once code is released.

Ive noticed how sensitive the mic is when recording videos. Is that adjustable too?
Sent from my myTouch 4g Slide.
That Idk.

Because i know on my computer if i wanted to get it that sensitive. I clicked on the option mic boost. Which gave that same sensitivity as the mt4gs

If you think the speaker volume on this phone is appalling, then you should try the Sensation. You'll quickly realize that according to HTC's recent releases, its not THAT bad.

YES the sensation volume is horrible

The paid version of Volume + fixes the volume issue.
somehow it looks like volume + doesn't get along with my music player's EQ...
Hoping for a stock app option, though obviously less likely.

It uses the AudioEffects API do you think that someone could enclude this in a rom to give us similar functionality? I mean most of us don't want the EQ settings just the Volume enhancing capabilities.
Regular volume + helped me.

Running stock 2.3.3. Even with call volume maxed out I can barely hear the person on the other end. I have tried with multiple calls to multiple people and get the same thing.
Anyone know how to fix this problem?
Anyone experienced something similar?

i have that problem, i tend to use speaker more. hopefully a mod comes soon
I'm running CM7 RC1 with Voodoo kernel, not sure if the Voodoo sound patch has any part in this, but the volume on my phone is quite loud when using Skype. But in a noisy environment, I'd rather use a pair of noise blocking earphone or headset.
Yea i can barely hear the other person as well. I dont know if its just in my head but it almost seems like it started after the 2.3.3 update

During a call turn the volume down and then back up. When you turn it down you won't notice much difference but you will when you turn it up again. It seems that the volume settings thinks it's at max when it isn't and you need to reset it by turning it down.
Hmm ill give that a shot

Don't think so. The same issue was present with the N1, kernel developers implemented an audio boost feature that really helped this issue out. Hopefully we will see the same for the NS soon enough.
I would LOOOOOVE for an audio boost similar to the N1 to be implemented for the NS.

[Q] volume of the front speakers? Help please
hello all
does anyone know the phonecodes for the nexus s (service mode)? I want to increase the handset (speaker to the ear)!
in the galaxy s, he is **#*#197328640#*# but not work
nexus s CM7 netarchy 1.2.7
sorry for my bad english
does anybody know how to raise the volume of the front speakers?
I'd like to do this also. Default max volume is too low, sometimes hard to hear what people say.
exactly!
It must be possible to increase the volume
with the voodoo kernel only the speakers on the back work
I have the same problems, in call volume is too low :-( and its not the provider because with my Galaxy S the volume is okay.
Phone speaker is quiet but with my bt earpiece I can get it loud enough to hurt my ears.
Sent from my MattedBlues CM7 Nexus S from the XDA Premium app.
i don't know about you guys, but i have no problem hearing the call even in busy ( noisy ) streets environments.
using any of the 3 methods:
normal ear speaker
back speaker
BT headset
on 2.3.3 stock, no mods of any kind
temporarily solution:
During call set volume to min and then to max and then it's OK. After reboot problem is back.

How is the volume level on this phone? I have a g2 right now, and i am always disappointed in the highest volume.

I think it's loud, but I'm coming from a Nexus One, and I've been informed the N1 is one of the phones with the lowest volume.
Good. Not great.

Coming from both Vibrants I would say its loud but not as loud as it should be.
I feel the vibrants are very loud. Especially when holding in your hand watching a movie because it will echo off your hand. I've always had to turn down the vibrants while I find myself wishing this phone could go louder.

Better than the G2 through the earpiece and speakers. I think the speaker placement helps. A lot better than the G2 through a wired or Bluetooth headset.
Sounds great when dts is pressed from within the audio or video player. If I didn't know about that from this forum I wouldn't have thought it was that good.

Coming from nexus s and would say ok, not as loud as nexus s. I had voodoo sound on nexus which was quite an improvement. May be we will see some improvements here once some custom kernels roll out.

The speaker volume is ok I guess for a mono speaker, but the headphone volume is to low. Probably they're following that headphone volume law from europe. There is a volume booster app in the market

Sound is really good, I missed the placement of the speaker being on the bottom of the phone.

Is the speaker volume VERY low or is it just my phone? I have youtube videos turned all the way up, notifications turned all the way up, etc., and it's still not that loud.
^^^Agreed, I noticed this as well. Its not a big issue, though.

Good to know it's not just my phone then. I can live with it.
Me too. I was thinking out was just my phone.
There is already a post about this FYI.....Go to: Settings>Call>Enable "Hearing Aids"
This will help tremendously. Enjoy.
at even the highest setting, its low on my phone. but what i've found out is that the speaker is capable of a very loud sound, but is locked by the software for the highest it can go. what i am talking about is , like for google navigation, turn the volume to the highest setting, and you can see that voice guidance is extremely loud. but for all other things on the phone, its low. so a custom rom would have to increase this setting for everything to be loud, not just voice guidance on google navigation.
It's definitely not a good speaker, but check out an app called Equalizer to boost your levels.
Try volume+ from the market.
I've not got a sensation but I have increased the volume of my lg o2x hugely.

So strange you are all claiming speaker quality is bad. Mine it's great. Very loud and clear/crisp.. Music, videos, calls. Everything. Especially with the SRS enhancement checked.

SRS is great on the HTC apps but doesn't affect Sirius or other media apps.
Well even my youtube videos and speaker phone conversations are loud and crisp on the speaker. No problems with low volume here.

For listening to music on my bt headset I use the equalizer in poweramp to boost the volume, works well for me. For voice calls I find the volume and sound quality to be amazing.

I have nothing about enabling hearing aids, or is this just a joke?
Id like to know why my phones speaker is louder than when I plug external speakers in. This isn't too clever seen as the volume also seens very low on mine. :/

Hi, yes equalizer seems to help with the speaker by cranking everything up. Still nothing like the results you can get from volume plus.
On the plus side the speaker seems to be better than previous htc devices. I have always been put off by the poor speaker. Motorola speakers I have to have below max!
I will email volume+ developer and see if he or she will update.

Yes, it currently doesn't work on the Sensation and I'm not entirely sure why. I'm currently looking into why it force closes and will then release a bug fix.
Thanks.

We will need root for this. I had it one time on a samsung phone and it also needed root to boost the loudness.

Try the Volume+(Sound Boost) app from the market. There has been a recent update for the Sensation & EVO 3D.
I'm using Equalizer from the Market with the Rock setting with equalizer and virtualizer checked and I no longer need to have the volume maxed out. Works great but I'm going to compare it to Volume + to see which is better.

Because we all keep buying the issue laden stuff that they put out. They have no impetus to change. They have gotten away with it for this long so why change now? I believe they also rely heavily on the fantastic dev's in this forum to pick up after them and find the solutions to issues that they do not want to take the time to discover. If we all just boycotted buying the newest -greatest- latest for a couple of months and started asking for refunds after the first issue laden device (instead of hanging on hoping for the elusive perfect one and accepting multiple devices and unkept promises from the OEM)they might get the message. Of course this would take away the fun of having cutting edge technology and I would have to find something else to grumble about.LOL
how loud do you people think that little ass speaker is supose to be its not bigger than the hd2 speaker wich is a whole lot louder face it your going to f up your speaker trying to make it louder
Volune+ app works wonders on this phone and its free no root needed enjoy.

I had the same problem to, tried all things nothing helped, then someone told me about an app called volume+ must be rooted to work the best.....

You don't have to root with volume +, just to use the in call settings you must have root.... you can use either of the two apps which work fine....
