[Q] Update to 2.3.6 from non-stock kernel - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I know the question has probably been asked multiple time but I can't find the answer. I have a I9020T with a custom kernel which seems to blocks the stock OTA update (Android 2.3.4/GRJ22 to Android 2.3.6/GRK39F).
What is the simplest way to update, I have a full titanium backup but would prefer not to use it.
Just a link to a thread with the answer would be greatly appreciated

One way is to use Rom Manager .. scroll down to stock Rom and flash the 2.3.3 ... brings stock everything...=]
Edit: I'm using the i9020A Model... but I guess it will recognize ur model when using Rom manager

Hello, I´m trying to find a ROM to flash in my SGS 4G. Can anyone tell me if I can use the ROM's developed for the Galaxy S and flash it nice and clean in SGS 4G.
By the way, I'm using the stock Froyo and I live outside the US, since I've rooted and unlocked it I've not been able to use my local 2G/3G connection. Does anyone know any solution for that?
Thanks

Most practical way of Unroot is to install new firmware for your phone.
pls open your phone on download mod and install original stok firmware.

From all the threads in general, it would seem the update does unroot your phone. Also from those threads it would seem flashing a custom recovery and, subsequently, the su zip will give you root back. I don't know of a pre-rooted version out yet.
i just upgraded to ics a little while ago using rom manager, i had to go back to stock 2.3.3 which unrooted my phone but did not lock the phone . I was wondering the same thing and that is how the heck do i root my phone now lol. my phone still shows the unlocked lock on the boot up screen under "Google" but i dont have SU permissions anymore. if I still have su.zip file and cwm can i just use fastboot and flash the img and su.zip ?
What if I don't have my original files to roll back to stock GB? I just downloaded the version Koush put up on his twitter...will that allow me to flash in CWM and update?

Download stock images from from manager then update to 2.3.6 then you can flash the one from koush's twitter.
Root will be lost after update. Currently flashing su.zip wont work. Still trying to figure it out.

We might just have to re*root when they release the info.

Let me ask you also, I'm currently running Alpha13 w/ Francisco.Franco kernel. Is the official that much smoother that I should lose my root?

Nexus s - overcoming status 7 when running OTA update to Jelly Bean

Hi Folks!
I am retuning newbie to the XDA forum but, I cut my teeth on the original XDA... But, Android is a new arena...
I have Nexus S - i9020 - no suffix, GSM, purchased in the UK.
1. I am currently running a rooted installation of ICE 4.0.4. The recent OTA update to Jelly Bean failed with a status 7 - from my research, it's probably because I am running rooted - ?
2. I tried to return to stock state and that's where a bewildering array of stock images where suggested on other threads on this forum. The problem is; where can I find a stock ICE ROM for my i9020 device?
3. Incidentally, it would be good if somebody could provide a breakdown of model number and whether stock ROMs are interchangeable?
4. If I inadvertently try to flash an incorrect ROM, will the checks stop the process or do I run the risk of bricked device?
Thanks for your attention.

Thanks for the reply.
I fixed the problem using the "international" ROM version of stock ICS 4.0.4 ROM - I flash that to unroot the phone, then applied OTA update.
Thanks again.
