Nexus S i9020A Update 2.3.6 - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So recently I installed the T-Mobile Update by accident.. lost connection and crap. Now I'm back to 2.3.4 ... I just received the 2.3.6 update... possibly the search bug fix. Soooo I press install and crap and when it comes to installing it... it fails... I'm running stock Rom... And just the KB3 Radio With HSDPA Tweak... Anyone Know Why It failed? =\

I received the update 2.3.6 as well but it failed to reboot my Nexus after 15mins, I pulled the battery and rebooted it and am still at 2.3.4.
Is there anything to worry about and do we need it, if so, how can we get the OTA back ?

Look in the development forum and download the I897UCJF6 Odin One Click utility. This will bring your phone back to AT&T stock 2.1.
Also, when did ATT push Froyo?
I think he's mistaken it with JH7
<----- They sure do!

We just don't believe AT&T's.

Post an "About phone" screen shot.
The only ota firmware update AT&T sent was a modem update.
Ummmm, yeah...when did they push 2.2?! Hummmm...

I'll believe this when I see it with my own two eyes.

[Q] Official rom number?

Hi all
I just got my Nexus S from UK this week and i can see there is a few around that got android 2.3.3. So my question i am still on 2.3.1 and can't get any updates on the updater on the phone so is there something wrong or is it just a slow process to get the updates out?
I had the same issue but I manually updated using info on here. Search for it and you'll find it no probs.

[Q] MIUI 1.1.11 working zip?

I've been using the older version for a while now but cannot update since official thread is locked and the link on there has not been working for me for some reason. Comes out as. Zip.zip format. And I keep getting an error messenger when I try to flash it. Something I found out has to do with it just being a bad zip. Anyone have a clean one that works?

I did. I just switched out the busybox file.
That has seemed to be a problem with the last couple updates.
How did u manage to update it?

It is a fix of the update. The update was not installing.
It is not an update, so to speak.

The lastest one for the Infuse is 1.11.11. The guy who was porting the new updates for the Infuse every week is not doing it anymore, so no updates for the Infuse beyond 1.11.11.
You can find 1.11.11 here:

Ignore incorrectly typed version on the zip file.
Now that 1.11.18 is out I am happy camper. Thanks everyone

You'll have to root your device, and rename/delete update apk file.

Hello.. And thanks for the quick response to my question ! I am rooted on Gummy 2.0 Froyo so I would just go into the system folder to find the file ?
Where exactly is the file to rename? I do not want the update either.

I would imagine its somewhere in /system/app should say vzwupdater.apk or something like that

Huh.... I always thought if the phone was rooted and running a custom ROM, you would never get OTA updates. Maybe that's only if you're running a custom Gingerbread ROM.

That's exactly what I was thinking. The OTA is supposed to check for an unrooted/unmodified system before allowing the OTA. Maybe it just fails to install but you still get the notification? If true, that would definitely be annoying. Don't blame people for wanting to disable it.

I'd like know as well. I'm happily rooted and don't feel like changing anything. A pop up has notified me about 10 times today. Only options are to Install now. Install later and more information which allows no further options. So I just hit install later only to be notified again randomly.

Hopefully, Someone can let those of us that do not want to update know where this update.apk file is located.. I know I can't seem to find it...
when I loaded up the debloated rooted package courtesy of Danalo I remember deleting remnants of something in root explorer along the lines of "vzwfroyoinstaller.apk" and something else with "vzwupdate(er)" in the name which could be the culprits, sorry I don't remember and when I was on froyo I hadn't received the OTA yet and didn't bother to check then got impatient and flashed the aforementioned rom lol
do a search in root explorer for "update" or "froyo" or even a generic one like "vzw", there's gotta be a suspicious looking updater apk somewhere in there

The new radios contained in this ROM update alone (which dramatically improves data connection stability) is the biggest reason alone to update to Gingerbread.
I used to have data drops and overall data instability like none other on EE4. 2.3.6 gives me the stability that I needed to keep a stable data connection while hopping from tower to tower while driving through my city. EE4? Forget about it, it never could hop from tower to tower without giving some kind of fit about it and that meant that you couldn't stream anything. I'd have to look at my phone every once in awhile just to force my streaming music app to make a reconnection and being that I drive through some cities that have a "no cell phone" law, I was risking a ticket (that and an accident).
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
I haven't gotten a notification yet. Running EP4 debloated.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using xda premium
If you're running anything other than bone-stock (no root, no VooDoo, no de-bloat, etc) EE4, the OTA will not apply.
In many cases, you won't even get the notification on a non-stock ROM, as it requires the InnoPath app to be there.
If you're on a custom ROM, the OTA does manage to get downloaded and you tell it to update, you run the risk of soft-bricking (boot loop) at worst. In the best case, you'll boot to custom recovery and it will ignore the update.
I just got off the phone with verzion to see if there was any way for them to stop the push... Upper Tech Support called Samsung and they said no.. That after 2wks the push should stop.. I am running Gummy Froyo 2.0 with the EP4 radios and we have 4G in my town and its as smooth as a babies ass.. Running Immoseyon's kernel in voodoo.. files are converted to EXT4 and setcpu has me at 1200 mhz 100% stable I don't want to loose what I got.. Everything Icons, Backgrounds, Go Launcher EX are all set up PERFECT So, I guess I am going to have to wait for the push to stop.. There is no "Update.zip" file that I can find through Root Explorer to delete to stop the push..
You can do NAND backup and Titanium Backup (for god's sake), then update. GingerBread is much faster then Froyo.

I am running a stock rooted kernel with stock rom. I keep getting the ota update. I am all backed up and going to try the ota in the am when my battery is fully charged. If not it won't be the first time I used imnuts [HOW-TO]Fix your phone....
YOU MUST be NOT rooted for the OTA to take place or it will break the phone and you'll have to use the "Fix your Phone" thread.
Froyo versus Gingerbread. If you thought your phone was fast with those tweaks on Froyo, just try applying them to Gingerbread. Five times better. Look at it this way... this phone was made for Gingerbread, the hardware, the features, the functionality, all of it was made for Gingerbread. Hell, the front-facing camera was made for Gingerbread. The only reason why we got stuck with Froyo was because they rushed the phone to market and by the time they wanted to launch it a Gingerbread build wasn't ready for it.
I took the ota this morning with stock rooted kernel and worked perfect. I must say trparky was correct about "dramatically improves data connection stability". I am really surprised how much this update helped out my phone.

[Q] OTA being rolled out again, any different?

http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-2362
I downloaded the original GB update back in July, just saw this and haven't had a chance to try it. Anyone know if it is an update over the previous "fix". I sure hope it is, just did the daily battery pull about ten minutes ago. It would be nice to get that fixed.
Nope its 2.3.3
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
Right, I assumed that would probably be the case. I was talking about the other stuff kernals/basebands or anything at all that could possibly be different which would actually fix this phone.
A friend is downloading it now (he was still on froyo) we will compare and let you guys know if anything appears to have been updated over the first "update/fix".
Ok , it's exactly the same
2.6.32.9
