[Q] Why do official fw from here and those of Kies differ? - General Questions and Answers

Kies reported the following for my Samsung Galaxy S2 (GT-i9100) phone :
Current firmware version : PDA-KE8/PHONE-KE2/CSC-KE2 (INU)
Latest firmware version : PDA-KF3/PHONE-KE4/CSC-KF3 (INU)
I tried upgrading to latest version above with Kies, but due to slow net connection, I couldn't do it, so I downloaded supposedly official FW from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 and chose the XWKF3 INU (India): http://www.multiupload.com/4QE1L97ZGF ROM and flashed it successfully using ODIN.
Now, Kies tells me that "S/W version in your phone is not an official version. Firmware upgrade of unofficial version S/W version is not supported".
Further it tells me that now my current firmware version is PDA-KF3/PHONE-KE7/CSC-KF1 (INU) which actually differs from what Kies told me what the latest version should be (see above).
What's going on here?
I'm a newbie to Android, and would also like to know what "Stock Kernel" means.
Thanks!

As far as Firmwares go, there will be different versions that could be dependant on Region or Carrier. The only truly universal Firmware would be that which is released by Google; the AOSP version. Once manufacturers and carriers get their hands on it you end up with different versions.
The Kernel is core of the OS. It has low level access to all the hardware on your device. Stock is what is included in stock Firmware, but people make custom Kernels too. Cyanogenmod for example has it's own Kernel, but there are others that can flashed seperately if you wanted.

So besides possibly invalidating my warranty (anyway to get it back?) and disabling future ability to upgrade my FW via Kies, has there been any other negative effects on my phone after the upgrade via Odin?

[Q] How to downgrade to official GS2 firmware so I can upgrade using Kies?

Hi,
I flashed my phone to the latest ICS firmware at the time, which was lp6 i think. I want to downgrade it to another official one, like the unbranded UK version so when it is released in UK I can upgrade it using kies.
I tried many firmwares but only 1 was had the ability to be upgraded via kies according to the firmware listo on sammobile.com, I tried it but Kies states Your Device Does Not Support Updating Via Kies.
So just to test, I downloaded the latest o2 ICS firmware, I still get the same message.
Anyone know what I can do so kies recognises it?
All help will be appreciated, and thanks.

Do you know which one it is? I can't seem to figure out which one it is.
if you know odin you can use a rom to flash back to gingerbread like 2.3.5 official frimware : )

[Q] P3110 -Troubleshooting with official FW

Do I have some time on my samsung galaxy tab use only the original firmware. So I wanted to try but some unofficial version. I therefore tried a lot of recovery. That was probably a mistake because when I wanted to go back to the original firmware, the latest version is freely available on the Internet (XEZ 4.1.2). Despite that, I wanted OTA update to the latest 4.2.2 Tablet me but wrote that the last update has already been installed. CSC reports still original XEZ. Any idea how to solve it?

So Xez is your latest update in your contry , if you want to update to 4.2.2 , try different region, you can donwload in http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/, and flash via odin.
Or you can try microdelta rom which is the best stock rom for p3110,

No OTA Updates

I just took delivery on a SM_P905V, what a beautiful piece of equipment.
It was used in is loaded with Android 4.2.2. When I go to update software, it says its unavailable.
How do I get an OTA update?
Edit: Samsung site had the OT1 Lollypop 5.0.1. Now I wonder if they will update to Marshmellow?
Running great; and I couldn''t be much happier.
I suggest you use 'odin method' because its really fast but if you are not experienced with that method then I suggest you use samsung kies3 software on windows to update it. As for ota method, It varies region to region if new software isn't released in your region then use these alternative methods. Thank you , hope it helps
Hm, latest version for the P905V is P905VVRUBOH1/P905VVZWBOH1
Was it a new device or used?
You can use ODIN to flash the latest firmware manually. You can grab the newest firmware version to flash off Sammobile.

Flashing more recent stock rom from sammobile

Hi
Apologies for what is quite a basic question for I'm just trying to get things straight in my head before proceeding.
I have a UK retail S7 G930F, current running stock
Build G930FXXU1DQC4
Baseband G930FXXU1DQC2
Despite the fact this build only has Android security patch level February 2017, and the latest build is from 2018, my device and Smart Switch insist I am up to date, I want to actually make this the case while remaining on stock firmware.
I have used Odin to flash Galaxy phones before but not since I had a Note 2 and Note 3 so I'm a little rusty.
I have Odin 3.13.1 and the zip download from sammobile for build G930FXXS2DRAA for the same CSC region I'm currently on which is XEU.
All the guides for Odin flashing say to only use the AP file and option in Odin. However as my BL, CP and CSC will all be older as well, and I'm simply going from stock to stock can I (or should I) also flash these parts as well?
Thanks.
I need more information. 6 mm and 7 nougat use the same BL and require no upgrade where if you were on lollipop somehow you would need the bl. Please DO NOT run off and start flashing things like BL without help from here first. I have bricked a samsung device so bad I had to replace the motherboard, so I learned the hard way.
Both current firmware and the one I intend to flash are Android 7, the new one is just a much more recent build with a more up to date security patch level.
My current firmware, as shipped (or possibly updated OTA a long time ago)
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s7/SM-G930F/XEU/download/G930FXXU1DQC4/127501/
My intended firmware that I plan to flash
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s7/SM-G930F/XEU/download/G930FXXS2DRAA/205600/
Despite the fact that sammobile says the newer one is available in Smart Switch, it doesn't show any updates when I connect my device to my PC with Smart Switch.

I get that a lot. I upgraded my s7 to latest n release today and it worked ok.
So, do I just flash AP or everything?

You need to flash all 4 files: BL / AP / CP / CSC
I do recommend that you flash CSC* and not HOME_CSC*. That way you will reset the phone to factory defaults and it will be ready for future OTA updates.
Backup your files first that you think are important and then start from scratch to configure the phone, install your apps, update the ones on the phone.

flashing official firmware through odin stops secure folder from working?

Hello,
I'm in a bit of a confusing situation. When nougat released for s6 last year i think, i flashed it through odin and after that samsung launched/introduced secure folder for nougat and i tried it. It wasn't working because my device status wasn't "official" anymore.
So now I'm thinking again to flash uk firmware (from sammobile) for galaxy s7 sm-g930f(not rooted & device status is OFFICIAL) via odin would this problem happen again if i flash it?
Thanks if anyone's interested to answer my query..!
If you flash the correct firmware from a trusted firmware website, you shouldn't have any issues.
But flashing the wrong firmware (e.g. for the wrong SoC) or flashing firmware from a random blog site might get you in trouble, as they can end up being phone dumps instead of the actual official package.
If you use the files from updato, sammobile, or one of the firmware tools (I think this works despite ceasing development https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647) I'd say you'd be safe.
Chances are if your device was Custom, then you have rooted it at some point / flashed custom, in that case KNOX will be tripped (0x1) and if secure folder relies on KNOX being valid (0x0) as a lot of Samsung stock apps do, it will not work any longer
