[Q] Embedded flash and the browser - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just recently purchased a transformer from a friend. It's a B40 and I reset the software and updated the latest and greatest firmware. It's straight stock and is not rooted. I installed the latest Flash from the market place and embedded flash in the browser is not watchable. It stutters. I read this thread and it seems I need to have CWM/root to fix this problem. Is there a way to fix it without installing CWM/root? At this point in time I'd rather stick with a stock tablet. I already spend too much time messing with my Epic 4g.

I have the same b40 and just recently rooted, but prior to that I had no issues playing any flash content. My biggest issue was the typing lag which now is gone.
I'm on revolver. Blades #20 kernel and thumb keyboard..and stock browser
By the way, could it be that your friend rooted the device and flashed a stock Rom

I don't believe its rooted since I upgraded to the latest OTA firmware. I read that it would not update if you are rooted.

Try Opera
I've been using Opera Mini for websites especially flash heavy ones like gametrailers and it has transformed by experience of the transformer Very quick and the flash is silky smooth. Definitely one to try before going down the root path?
And no, I don't work for Opera.....

[Q] Where can I find the stock kernel?

I just flashed back to stock from prime via my nandroid backup, but its still using the moobox kernel. Needless to say, certain things are a bit buggy. Do I just flash Eee_PAD_TF101_Kernel_Code_8_2_3_9.zip from the Asus site or do I need something else? Thanks!
I'm not getting impatient, but I am wondering why its not in a sticky. QQ
I would not flash 8.2.3.9 from the Asus site. I did 4days ago and I still haven't gotten the 8.2.3.13 OTA to get me to a stable build

No, I've already flashed back to 8.2.3.9 from Prime v1.3 (Based on 8.2.3.13). I'm looking for the stock kernel, not the update
did you ever get an answer?
i flashed the recovery-3.1.0.1-solarnz-R3-240511-1908, wiped data/recovery from clockwork, and even clicked the little tablet reset button is settings (ok i knew that wasnt gonna work).
everything looks stock, but the kernal is still different? any suggestions?
i got a hair under the LCD i jsut cant take anymore, and the charger 0BLF feels like 500 degrees when i charge. i dont want to here asus try to blame that on my kernal.... should i get rid of CWM and the kernal before i send it back? thanks in advance

Stock 3.1 kernel.
It's kernel not kernal. Your tablet needs to be 100.00% stock in order to be sent back to ASUS.
Didn't 8.4.4.11 include a new kernel? Anyone have that available?
haha. kernel. got it. its not made outta corn?
Kernel Version: 2.6.36.3-00001-gf377a2b [email protected] #1
is that right now?
but my build number says:
HMJ37.prime_epad-1.5-20110626
i was gonna fix that using this method
http:
//dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/EeePAD/TF101/
Update_Launcher_SOP_WW.pdf
unless you have another suggestion?
should i delete any SU files on the root or do you think they will look that close for a hair under the LCD issue?
Wrong thread. Sorry

[Q] New OTA update that breaks root necessary for ICS? What does it update?

So I am the proud owner of an ASUS Transformer OG, B70 series, and I have rooted with razorclaw, flashed the ROM with PRIME 2.1.1 and the kernal with netformer 1.6, overclocked to 1.6 GHz, and I'm really wondering what the new OTA .21 update does for the Transformer, what does it include? I've heard bug fixes (which ones??) and HDMI update (to what end?), and I'm wondering also if this is a pre-update for the ICS update expected soon...should I unroot and update to .21 so I can get the ICS update or hope that the devs crack the ICS update for rooted PRIME 2.1.1 users?
Thanks!
As of right now, the OTA of .21 breaks being able to root using razorclaw, so beware if that. There's a downgrade, but it's not 100% right now.
Ok, so just so you guys know what is possible and what I was asking, basically I know that ICS is goind to be running on Yaffs file system, at least for the Epic 4G that I also have, and I was basically wondering if this update was the PRE-ICS update, a pre-requisite to updating to ICS. BUT, just because I wanted to make sure, and didn't have 10 posts/much cred here, I was running-
ROM- PRIME 2.1.1
Kernal- Netformer 1.6
Yet I read that the 8.6.5.21 update also fixed some glitches, HDMI issues, GPS update etc., and I didn't want to go without that. I read over in DEV that they had fixed the .21 updater so that it could be applied without breaking root, but only over the stock ROM. SO, I reverted back to stock and flashed over the WW version 8.6.6.23, after trying the 8.6.5.21 for both US and WW, and both aborting while trying to access system/build.prop. Thus, I updated with the fixed 8.6.6.23 updater, reloaded Razorclaw, regained root, flashed recovery, and installed a new ROM (this time I tried the KRAKD ROM, and I like it alot with the samurai kernal UV/OC), I didn't check the device versions before applying the .23 update, and since I wasn't told whether it was necessary, I figured if nothing else I might as well do it since I presume it fixes/updates the GPS with or without rooting and flashing a new rom..but any clarification from a DEV would be nice. I'm trying to get into it and learn as much as I can.
Thanks!

Plants vs zombies - Not playable on ics

Playing on ics on my phone is doable, but the tab won't play at all. Worked barely under hc as it was, but hw acceleration or software both freeze up. Stock or arhd. Anyone else play this and having the same problem?

I have the same problem, got for free from Amazon. It worked flawlessly on HC for me but not even booting up on ICS.
Worked until I reset the device
It worked okay for me upon first start-up after upgrading to ICS on my Transformer. Since I had to do a reset to factory so I would stop getting the FC's on my google media, no go. It will get to the yard screen of level one then freeze. That happened once. The rest of the time it stops around the hour glass.
having the same problem ...
I played though the first 3 levels w/o problems.
I guess PopCap needs to repackage the game for ICS.
I have some problem
Am running stock rooted 9.2.1.17 ICS. Played 5 hours today without problem with my daughter. File I have is named "plants_vs_zombies_hd_android.apk" I used CWM to install pre-rooted 9.2.1.11 and then used CWM again to flash 9.2.1.17 update. Don't know why others are having so much trouble.
Amazon vs HD
I think this is exactly the problem. The Amazon (as they say in "the Scene") "crap non-working fake" version has finally fallen over completely with ICS. OTOH, the HD version (there is one, and it's completely different) works great on ICS (9.2.1.17). I'm running it now.

Guys - even if it's an older version of Hneycomb in NVFlash format, it will still help...
Here is what I'd recommend (as it worked perfectly for me) - it 10 easy steps!
1. Download this stock Honeycomb image in NVFlash format. It's not the latest version of Honeycomb, but it really doesn't matter, becuase once you install and root it, you are just going to install CWM recovery and install a custom Honeycom ROM over top of it anyway (which IS based on the latest version of Honeycomb):
http://www.tabletroms.com/forums/tr...stock-3-2-recovery-roms-unbricking-tools.html
2. Download rootkit for above version of Honeycomb:
http://www.4shared.com/rar/-IYDraGZ/Brkroottoolkitv71.html?
3. Download CWM Recovery.
4. NVFlash the image downloaded in step 1.
5. Boot Honeycomb (skip all configurations!) and then root it using the rootkit downloaded in step 2.
6. After Honeycomb is rooted, install CWM Recovery downloaded in step 3.
7. Download Revolver 3.11 and 3.11.1 patch
8. Install Revolver 3.11 via CWM.
9. Install Revolver 3.11.1 patch via CWM.
10. Enjoy Honeycomb stability again!
Or something close to that....
EDIT: Added links to NVFlash'able ROM and root kit.
The problem with HC revolver was that it took to long to boot up. Prime ROM did not have the same problem.

Why is the boot-time such a big deal? I never reboot my device (at least now that I'm not on ICS anymore!), so the boot-time is almost meaningless...
I guess if you turn your device off every time you use it, that would be a pain.
Probably the reason that Revolver takes longer is becuase of what it's doing at boot-time (optimatizations, etc)...

If you are willing to root and flash custom roms, first try a custom ICS rom in combination with a custom kernel instead of going back to honeycomb.
A lot of people got good results by using guevor's latest kernel.
Yeah that's what I'm trying to decide cause I need my pad daily use with not to much reboota and sods

I have already rooted my TF and made ready for a custom rom, but it seems that there is a fix available
[Kernel] ICS test (OC, UV) (test13) V9.2.2.3
Between HC and ICS, I thing ICS is far better (except for the stability issues), so I will give this a shot first before downgrading to HC.
As per my question on this thread HC Revolver sounds as a choice to many XDA members, so plan B should be this one.
some issues
Is revolver more stable now? I could never get the vga adapter to work. or it simply not freezing. This was last november.
If you're willing to go through the trouble to downgrade, you may as well just flash guevors test kernel or the TastyMehIcs kernel (in my sig) to fix the ics problems. I've had no problems on ARHD/Megatron with tastymeh 1.0 at all.
Edit: just looked at my uptime (I don't ever turn off really) 232 hours since last turnoff. That's stable enough for me!
I wanna know what good HC ROMs are out there too.
SoD doesn't happen to me at all, but I'm sick of the graphical glitches that are present throughout the ICS ROMs. People say it's only when you press recents - not true for me. I get it pressing recents, browsing youtube, in the nvidia apps, playing games, sometimes at the home screen, settings menu, etc.
It's very brief, but at the frequency it occurs, it's annoying. I want to know if it's present in HC as well. When I was on HC I never noticed it, but my device was on HC for maybe a total of two hours, so idk. The screen rotation thing is kinda annoying to. You turn the device, screen goes black for like a second, then it does the rotation animation. Things like that bother me cause it's not like that on my phone, even when I run ICS on that and it's not even receiving an ICS update.

Be patient - we're beta testing a beta release now (.24) and it seems that the graphical glitches are fixed (I KNOW the recent-apps "diagonal tearing" is fixed at least) - I've never noticed any other glitches, to be honest...

I wouldn't trust a rootkit , especially one hosted on 4shared. Just saying. A link to the original post would be nice.

I haven't noticed these issues on the ROMs I've tried. And revolver is by far the best HC based ROM.

Turns out a lot of my issues were eliminated by flashing revolver and the androidhd builds,.probably cause they're essentially the stock ICS build.

Thanks for guide.
I just found out I have a b50, and tried NVFLASH of ICS... worked for maybe 2-3 hrs, thought there was hope... and now it just froze playing music.
If this thing cannot even play music without glitching, whats the point really at all?
If this HC downgrade (and stay there) doesn't work, I'm selling this ASAP.

Downgrading Android Versions

Hi all. I have a i9300 (S3 Int'l) that is a really good phone. I currently run Liquid Smooth on it and have it available to run on both ICS and KK, by restoring through CWM. Question, if I get a new addition phone, will I be able to get a current Lollipop phone to flash a version of ICS? I use Floating Browser Flux a lot to stream TV and ICS still supports flash with that brower. On KK, though, the brower works, but no flash. I'd like anS6 or something with similar hardware, but want the ability to use a floating browser with flash support. Any ideas?
Thanks!
