[Q] Help. Flashed my Telus Nexus S with ATT firmware, now network type shows GPRS. - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm (obviously) a bit of a newb when it comes to android, and I was flashing back from cm7 to see how it was done. When I reinstalled GRJ22, everything was working fine. I then downloaded and flashed the OTA update to GRK39C (or so I thought). It turns out it was the update to GRK39F, which apparently is ATT or GPRS specific. My phone now thinks it's on ATT and is trying to use GPRS.
I'm on Telus in canada, and use HSPDA.
The phone was also showing baseband version I9020AXXKF1, it should be I9020AUCKD1.
I've tried restoring from a backup, flashing back to cm7 and to stock fw's, and even tried flashing the radio.
My phone still shows GPRS, and now baseband version shows I9020AXXKD1.
Is there any way to fix this? I hope someone here is knowledgeable about this...

That baseband is associated with the i9020t, or the t-mobile variant. The canadian nexus s is identical to the at&t version.
There is a sticky with all the roms. Use it and get the right rom installed

Unfortunately, the ROM I need seems to be one of the missing ones. Is there any way to backup the radio from my wife's (identical) phone and flash it to mine?

It looks like the file I need is 5282b5b3eb74.signed-sojua-ota-178324.5282b5b3.zip but I'm unable to locate a working link for the file. Can anyone tell me if this is correct and/or provide a live link?

Actually that particular one you want has broken tethering... This is a dump is the 2.3.4 with I9020AUCKD1 radio from my US import i9020a tested and working on SaskTel HSDPA+.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7812800/Stock-GRJ22-i9020A-unsigned.zip (will need to be flashed via CWM Recovery)

Thanks! I got it working by flashing the unsigned ROM in the sticky thread, and I'm running cyanogenmod 7.1 RC now. I'll keep the stock ROM on file just in case though...

Cool... I hope it works out well for you.
btw i got a rooted version of the stock 2.3.4 if you are interested as well.

So, for some reason flashing with your ROM set my phone to UMTS. Can someone refer me to a howto to backup a full ROM image from a phone, since my wife's is working fine and is on the right type of network.

[Q] Nexus S - Canadian

I just got a new Nexus S purchased from a Rogers store here in Canada.
I am eager to start flashing some new ROM's and such but I have learned some things in the past with my SGS and I really want to make sure I have my stock radio available in case I need to flash it back.
i9020AUCKB2 is my stock modem. I have some newer modems ready to flash but I am worried that it will cripple my 3G connection to Canadian carriers.
I have looked and can't find this modem anywhere. Also I don't know how to back it up myself. I have already done a CWM backup but I have read that this doesn't backup the radio firmware.
Does anyone know how I can easily backup my own radio or where I can download it from?
+1 I've been searching for the last few days info about the exact same thing. I just sold my i9000m and was hoping to flash some new roms with this phone too but not gonna try until I either have a stock odin version of this rom or at the very least the CKB2 modem.
+1 same boat, want to know this too
Just bought Nexus S yesterday Telus baseband I9020AUCKB2.
Rooted and installed CWM 3.0.2.4 and flashed CM7 (Great ROM) baseband remained the same
from what I've been reading in Nexus S dev, Odin is something we should try to avoid if possible. I came from Fascinate T959D and I thought about it but that's probably one of the easiest ways to brick if you don't know EXACTLY what you're flashing and WHAT you're flashing it on.
Odin = last resort
lucidcoin20 glad to hear that flashing CM7 didn't change the baseband, I didn't have the courage to try it. I wouldn't flash just anything with odin but if you can find the right files it will get you out of a mess pretty quick. I agree its not for noobies with no clue what's going on but if Samfirmware comes out with the 9020a rom I'll make sure to have it on my pc for an emergency.
But from my phone wich is a Koodo version (went with them cause they were so cheap outright so I could go just cancel and go back to bell) we all have the At&t version so all Canada is the same. Hope it all works that way so I can go on CM7.
But would still like to learn how to backup the radio file in case I ever need it in the future.
Well I went ahead and flashed KB3. My speeds are less than impressive but I still have 3g with Rogers. Still looking for KB2 though to do some more testing.
Have you tryied KB1 radio, works good for me, i believe it is a US radio.

Flashed KB1 and KB3 and tested using speedtest.com app, three separate times over wifi and cellular network - the KB1 was roughly 10-15% slower than the KB3 for me..
KB3 labelled my radio as "ATT" btw

LMAO did the same thing but for rogers saved $75.
If you look in Q & A forum, there is a post for a clockwork flash, K2B radio, just posted in that forum today. I have flashed the radio, work great fore me.
You can get the KB2 radio file on my thread in the General forum at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13077026
Thanks a lot, I was unaware that the Canadian carriers used KB2. Currently I am using KB3 and I noticed that sometimes the call breaks up, however I am not sure if its the firmware to blame. Does anyone have similar experiences with KB3?
I have tested KB2 and KB3 and my tests are not constant. Sometimes I get only 1MB or less down and up, sometimes I get 5MB down and 3up.
I'm not sure why the tests are so different. I can do the tests one after another in the same place and get completely different results.
I am with Rogers and I am using the Speedtest app. I noticed at one point the speedtest app was connecting to a server in Quebec which made no sense since I am near Toronto. The test results I mentioned above do not take the Quebec tests into consideration.

[Q] Help trying to get friends Rogers Nexus S back to stock(ish)

So my friend has a Nexus S that he bought from Rogers, using on Rogers etc. He put CM7 on it a while ago, didn't really like it so he tried to go back to stock as much as possible but is having some issues. I tried to help last night, but holy smokes there are alot of different radios and versions out there. It was so much easier when I had my nexus one compared to this (or so it seems to me). Anyways, for a Rogers user, what is the best (or most current) radio to use? He has tried the UCKD1 and B2 I believe, but had problems with not getting 3G. And even when he did get those on, and tried to install the OTA update, the update crapped out on him. I'm not 100% sure his phone is the I9020A version (it seems that way for ROgers though).
So I guess I will summarize some questions, that was a bad paragraph there.
1. What is the best (most current) radio to use for Rogers?
2. Can I combine the radio from Q1, with the current stock rom (2.3.6) and just flash with CWM recovery or fastboot?
3. Can someone verify the model number (I9020A)?
Thanks for the help!
search through the radio thread for Rogers to see what others ate using. You can determine your phone model by looking at the label under your battery.
Obscurely referenced from the fifth dimension on my Nexus S

[Q] Return to Stock for Nexus S

Hello there.
I would like to ask for your good help restoring my Nexus S. I'm actually really exhausted looking for answers and tried downloading programs (e.g. One Click Stock) already. I wouldn't try to poke you guys if I hadn't reached dead end. Painstakingly exhausted for the last 3 days plus the slow connection we have here.
Using One Click Stock by Michael Peerman, I'm stuck without a signal since it says that I'm on Sprint. Everything works except that I'm always without signal.
My phone is under Globe Telecommunications Philippines. Build Number GRJ22. Currently it is in Gingerbread 2.3.4.
I won't bother rooting it again. I just want a simple droid without the extra benefits of a rooted phone.
Any help pointing me to the right direction would be really appreciated.
just flash a stock rom! and that would make a stock nexus s! and if you want even more you can lock the bootloader again!! and about the signal try flashing another radio!

It's only the ICS rom the one fot t-mobile. The GB one is for everybody
http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommana...s&name=Stock Images&deviceName=Google Nexus S
Hello There.
Thanks for the hot tip. I got it all back to stock.
I did was root the phone again,
installed ClockworkMod. > Mount USB to PC > on the clockworkmod folder I created new folder "backup". Then paste the Stock Rom.
Reboot to Recovery then install from zip.
Voila! It worked.
Very much thanks to everyone.
Stock is different baseband version
I had recently flashed an ICS rom and could not get my mobile data working after trying every single radio for my model I9020A.
So I used rom manger to download 2.3.3 stock GB as described in this thread. Now it is showing I have baseband version I9020XXXB1 and when I go to system updates it says my system is up to date. How do I update to newest version of GB and show the correct baseband version of my phone?

[Q] 3g no longer working on my phone after flashing roms SCH-I500

So, after hours of looking for the stock rom for my Samsung galaxy S ( I don't know which one it is.. It just says samsung at the top and bottom) I found a gingerbread rom, and I flashed it to my phone via Odin. I reset the phone, and I no longer had my 3g, and my phone number says "Unknown". I installed Froyo 2.2.2 before this, and it was working perfectly, except that wasn't the stock that I was looking for, and so that was the reason I flashed the gingerbread ROM.. If anyone could help me, it'd be a big help.
~EPIKHBK1
aww Cmon.. :crying:
No one?
Probably something went wrong with the modem flash. The stock rom contained the modem for the rom itself? It happened to me on a galaxy ace. I flashed a 4.0.4 rom and then i lost the signal (only 3g/2g, not the wifi). Then I flashed a custom rom based on the original one and now everything works. Try to search the official rom for your device on sammobile.
:/
Well, I've spent days looking for the stock ROM :/ I couldn't find the one for mine..
You said install a custom ROM? won't that require a ROOT?
I can't find my model, "SCH-I500" on sammobile.

Ok, I installed http://www.mediafire.com/download/c7h1wl5wne51duf/ed05_radio.tar.md5.. so I'm able to send/recieve calls, but I still don't see "3g network" icon on the top of my phone, meaning that I don't have 3g..
anyone??
...
Rage..
Eh..
guys... Help me.

[SOLVED] No network? bb is correct...

Hi everyone,
I have just started playing with ROMS etc. and its turned my sluggish old-looking p500 into something beautiful,
The only issue is I just can't seem to get the network to work. Wifi is fine, but no service with the SIM card I put in there. I don't even get asked to put a SIM code or anything.
I have spent the last few hours desperately trying to get baseband v20 on my phone since LGMDP was not recognizing my phone, and I finally got it to work, expecting miraculous results, but alas! nothing! Anyone have any idea what I can do?
Specifically I have installed this rom: [DEV][ROM][4.4.2][CM11] KITKAT for LG-P500 [WIP][VER-12 OTA]
but have not updated through OTA yet.
And i flashed v20g using a stock version (one which didn't come with my phone). I guess I will try flashing a stock which depends on the new bb and see if that works...
Also, I don't know if this matters, but I got the phone in canada a few years ago and am now putting a UK SIM in there.
Thank you so much for any help you can give!!!! I really want to get this to work!

extra words:
Also, I deleted a bunch of stuff on my SD and know very little about how SIMs work, so if I have the "wrong kind" of SIM or if I deleted something (I have it all backed up) that I need to put back on the SD card to make this work, please let me know!
Thanks!

If baseband is correct, then check your APN ( Access Point Names ). Settings->Mobile Networks->Access Point Names.

With my old SIM, I can see the APNs from back in Canada, but when I put the new UK SIM in (which shows APNs on my wife's samsung phone) I see nothing listed for the APN.
Should I create a new APN with the same settings as from my wife's phone? Or do I have to do something else?
Does it matter wether the bb is v20c or v20g? As long as its for the optimus one I mean?
Could this have to do with my phone being locked? I'm not sure if it is locked or not... I was trying to unlock it using the code:
2945#*900#
Thanks so much for responding, I had all but given up!
but nothing happens when I put that in. Do I have to revert to stock rom for that to work?
Update:
I tried to put in the right APN info, but I couldn't save it for some reason. Doing some reasearch, I found that this might be a "Funny SIM" problem, but only see patches to fix this under CM9, and I am running CM11. Any ideas?
Cheers!

Patch may work. Old baseband patch worked thru JellyBean ( CM10 ).
What you're referring to, v20c, IS NOT baseband but software version. What version of Android was the device running when purchased? Anything under 2.3 is old baseband while 2.3 and newer is new baseband. There are two baseband patches floating around XDA. One for new and one for old. Old baseband patch can be found in my FAQ for the LG Optimus One. Post #8 I believe. FAQ

I thought I had upgraded to 2.3, but since it wasn't working I flashed the new bb using this guide :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1149530
and made sure that it had definitely flashed. My rom says it is baseband version V20g under the about phone section. So unless this ROM is supposed to be running the old bb (which it didn't seem like that was the case) the baseband version should be correct...
Also, I had previously tried the old bb patch which you are talking about; that didn't work either. What I understood was that "Funny SIM" is a different issue, but maybe I'm just reading the threads wrong.
Thanks again for your continued help!
Solved!
Okay, so it was because my phone was unlocked. I had to:
- Flash the stock ROM
- Flash the OLD BB
Then I was able to put in the code to get to the unlock screen. Once the phone was unlocked,
-Flash new BB
-Flash new ROM
And it works! Hooray! I'm not sure how to mark the thread as solved though?
