Instructions
Before installing Black Lightning, make sure your system is deodexed; e.g. you have installed at least one deodexed ROM in the past. If you aren't sure, please at least install this before continuing.
Pre-installation
If you don't have custom recovery on your phone, please install it first.
If your system is not deodexed, please install this ROM first. It will completely deodex your phone and guarantee this ROM will install smoothly.
Installation
Download Black Lightning here.
Put it somewhere easy to find on your phone's SD card (I made a folder called "0roms" because it goes to the top of the list).
Power off your phone.
Boot your phone into Recovery Mode (While holding Volume Down and Volume Up, hold Power until you feel a vibration.)
Navigate to "Install ZIP from SD Card" (volume keys to go up/down, power key to select).
Navigate to Black Lightning, choose it.
The install should take around 1-2 minutes.
Press the Menu key to return to the main menu, then choose Reboot.

Plans
I plan to remove the boot sounds as well, as I didn't know until recently they still occurred unless you flashed over from another ROM that took them off. BL may come with a better keyboard in the future.
I'm always open to suggestions too.

take what ever you want from my ROM dude and llorn is the one who made the 1% MOD so he is the one to ask about that.
Updated OP. You guys are awesome.
...and I'm now an expert on making bootanimations...
Updated OP with proven wifi tethering (Barnacle), reboot and recovery options, etc.
Opdated OP. Black Lightning 3.2 uses a different architecture in its build.prop for a wider market and better front camera compatibility.
Apparently any Triumph I get is extremely incompatible with anything, regardless of how nicely I treat it.
I don't have the triumph but I've been messing with my girlfriends and I was wondering if
the kernel gets backed up when you do a full system backup. I'm one of those people that likes to be able to make everything stock of I need to and I haven't put a kernel on a phone before. Sorry for the dumb question...

You know, I believe it does (it takes a minute or so to back up "boot"). But the post here about the Umph Kernel also provides a stock kernel zip, should you ever need to revert.

This is the Umph kernel, free of the governor file that pained me It is based on the Oddball version, because I hear that bricks nothing and can be made to act completely stock when it's not told (by an app) to overclock the system.

To fix this, try installing b_randon14's stock deodex'ed ROM, which should get your phone up and out of the boot loop. From there, Black Lightning should run.
If and when that finishes, please answer these two questions so I can better write flashing instructions...
Did you wipe /data before/when you installed this ROM? (Don't wipe it now, doing any wiping, ever, may increase the chance of bootloops.)
Is this the first ROM you installed on this phone, ever? (E.g. I might be wrong about it being flash-able over anything...)

Hey man, Thanks for the reply. I flashed the deodexed ROM and my phone is stuck at MOTO logo. Don't know what to do now. I wiped/ data/ cache/ delvik cache.
---------- Post added at 06:53 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:28 AM ----------
Ok this is what happened---
First I wiped data/cache/dalvik cache and flashed that DEODEXED rom. Then phone was stuck at MOTO logo.
Then I restored the backup that I had and the phone booted back normal. But instead of going back to stock rom, the phone went back to the Deodexed rom (I'm assuming since there was Adroid logo instead of VM logo on Boot Animation)
Then I flashed your rom and the boot loop showed up again.
What do you think? Lemme know man.

Right now, clearing /data is NOT advised... DON'T wipe /data when installing any of these ROMs. Otherwise, well... bad things have been known to happen. If you did a full system restore, your system probably isn't de-odexed anymore.
What happens if you install a ROM (like b_randon14's deodexed one) and then restore just /data (via Backup&Restore > Advanced Restore)?

When I restore the data, I'm back to normal system except for all the VM bloatware and FB. I'm assuming that's b_randon14's deodexed stock rom? My phone says this--- Android-2.2.2, Kernel version- Apps_2.6.32.9-perf, baseband PR5, Software version- 1010_2_039 under about phone tab.
EDIT---- Alright I just tried flashing b_randon's DEODEXED rom and then restoring just data and the phone is stuck at MOTO logo.
Now I just flashed the back-up that I had through ClockworkMod and the phone seems to be back to normal without any VMBloatWare with "ANDROID" written Boot animation.
"When I restore the data, I'm back to normal system except for all the VM bloatware and FB. I'm assuming that's b_randon14's deodexed stock rom?"
Deodexed shouldn't actually mean decrapped, but I can accept this. The only thing that changes in a deodexed rom is it becomes theme-able.
"---- Alright I just tried flashing b_randon's DEODEXED rom and then restoring just data and the phone is stuck at MOTO logo."
Don't restore data next time and see what happens? Last I checked, his rom doesn't erase it.
"Now I just flashed the back-up that I had through ClockworkMod and the phone seems to be back to normal without any VMBloatWare with "ANDROID" written Boot animation."
Sounds reasonable. I'm still not sure where the boot logo goes, except it might have been Virgin Mobile's custom one...either way it shouldn't be an issue which is shown.
Sorry flashing a ROM is such a pain in the butt... after you get one, all of them should be okay ;_;

Ok I tried without restoring the data, but still no result. The MOTO boot logo is still there and stuck at bootloop. Any idea why this is happening? I mean I had no problem flashing ROMs on G1, MyTouch, Samsung Intercept. This is the first time I'm having this issue. Could it be the phone?

It... could be the phone. But then again you've also been able to back up and restore the device itself...
Did no ROM at all work, even the deodexed one? That is very strange indeed...
Does the stock ROM (odex'ed) work?

It took a a few extra days to update this for CM 7 because I am not using a regular black notification bar like the other themes. There were a few changes to the themes for CM 7. Please remember that Project Bliss HD was based of sonnsekohn's original theme and a majority of the credit goes to him. I kind of went back to some old updates for it as well but it still looks great. I'll be making a few more changes to Metallic Glass over the next few days as well. After that, I'm out for a bit. Also, everything should be working for both Amon_RA and the newest ClockworkMOD recoveries as well
UPDATE: For anyone who flashes these themes and nothing changes follow the steps below. This is another minor problem found with the Edify scripting and recoveries.
1. reboot into recovery
2. manually mount /system and /data from recovery menu
3. flash THEME file
ChangeLog
03-29-11 --- updated Project Bliss to v2.7 for CM7 RC3 - Metallic Glass is is updated to v2.3, notification tray is now white text not black. added a few apps as well.

Wow dude! This looks great and I love the liquid battery look!
I dig this theme a lot. I was actually perusing themes to get some ideas for a theme I'm working on and stumbled on this. I'm betting I'll be running this for a bit. We seem to have similar taste in UI look/feel.
I know it says "for CM 6.1.1" specifically in the title of the thread, but it might be good to mention this won't work for 6.1. I got boot loops when I flashed this on top of 6.1. Flashing 6.1.1 fixed it.
I really like the animation when you unlock the screen. Very cool! I really appreciate your work on this theme, mad props brutha!

Wow, i don't know what happened but after flashing, my phone went crazy. When it booted up my apps started fc. I had even flashed a fresh 6.1.1 right before flashing this. Then I tried to restore my nand backup and same thing. WTF is that about. Really weird. In the process of going all the way to my 1st nand backup when I 1st rooted and then I will flash 6.1.1, gapps, and then this. Hopefully that will get it.

The best way to install this if you are gonna upgrade to cm6.1.1 is to do a full wipe. Flash cm6.1.1 then flash gapps. Boot the rom. Reboot into recovery, wipe cache/dalvik and then flash the theme.
Sometimes if you don't wipe cache/dalvik it will not work properly.
I like the theme very much but is there a way to get the circle back for the battery because the liquid one is hard to read. Thanks

That's exactly what I did. I already had 6.1.1 but I run it with another theme so I got rid of it by wiping cache and dalvik then flashing 6.1.1 over. I then booted into recovery wiped cache and dalvik again, flashed the theme and ran into problems. I just now restored a nandroid from when I first rooted the phone. Then wiped everything, data, cache, dalvik flashed 6.1.1, booted up, recovery, flashed gapps, booted, recovery, wiped cache and dalvik, booted and got bootloops. I then tried with wiping data, cache, and dalvik and still bootloops. Oh well it looks nice but I just can't use it.
Hmm, that's strange. I'm running it now as well as a few other people and haven't heard of any major problems like this. Of course thats why I left it in beta. I will look into it for ya though.
I did have a similar problem with another modified framework I was working on. Are you positive you are flashing 6.1.1 instead of 6.1?
I'll stick it back in there when I get a chance.

When you say wiping data, cache, and dalvik, do you mean Factory Reset, cache, and dalvik cache? Are you using AmonRA recovery or Clockwork? I've read many times that Clockwork doesn't wipe quite properly.

I'm assuming you didn't get around to posting the framework anims yet. I'm looking forward to seeing what else you have come up with or collected. Have you found the Gingerbread Screen off animation? It looks like an old school tube TV shutting off. It's pretty awesome looking. I'd read somewhere that it has in fact been ported/implemented on the EVO but I've yet to find it.
Anyhow, I'm definitely going to be checking back often to see if you've posted any updates. I really enjoy your work brotha.

Hey... I didn't really want to get into moding the phone.apk app (maybe I'll look into it this weekend), but i did the battery percentage one for my own use. Attached are two versions, the Sense battery with Percentages that you requested, and the Circular Battery with percentages (See attached images).
Copy to your SD card and flash in clockwork recovery.
I tried them both on my phone, and they worked fine, but I'm not responsible if they cause problems on your phone. Make sure you nandroid before trying these, just in case.
Enjoy!
Edit: If anyone has any particular requests and you can let me know where to get the necessary image files, I can compile different versions for you. I just hate doing the image work on these mods, that's what takes longer than anything else.

If you can boot up fine after this, then try flashing one of the other mods and clear Cache and Dalvik after flashing again.

BTW, the Sense Style version wasn't removed, when I uploaded the Stock version, XDA screwed something up and removed the Sense Version from my post, so I just re-uploaded it.

I just flashed your Sense mod to my stock ROM. The 1st time, I got black screened, flashed your stock zip, which worked. Then I followed your advice and wiped cache and dalvik after reflashing your sense battery, and it worked perfectly. Maybe you should edit your post to recommend wiping.

Right, once you get the black screen, you need a battery pull to restart.
Try clearing cache and try again, but I've found that once you get the black screen, the most reliable way to fix the issue is this:
1. Install the Stock Battery Mod.
2. Clear Cache and Dalvik Cache.
3. Boot up... Should boot fine.
4. Install whatever mod you want.
5. Clear Cache and Dalvik Cache.
6. Boot up... should work now.
If you just try clearing cache after you already get the black screen, then for some reason I've found that it might not fix the issue and the above steps might be necessary.
Good luck, let me know what works.
Can someone create a flashable zip to incorporate these? Animated icons!

Thank you bro. Can I just reinstall TiBu from GP? And thanks for all your hard work..You rock..
no it wont work. i accidentally put the preload preconfg app back in wasnt paying attention coppying apps. lol it happens
but thats what causes force closes and tibu to not work
its fixed now
new link will be in op in about an hour
how do you take your screen captures? The app i normally use ShootMe takes pictures that appear to be red washed.
Never mind. Figured it out.
Good idea on the Q&A thread! Of course most people will glaze over that and post questions in the other thread, but it's a good idea.
Only problem might be that the post count will go down for the thread in the dev section if people come here instead, and you may get moved down the list onto page two--behind inferior roms...
What does the Silver Rom flashable theme consist of exactly? Is that what is in the preview pictures or does it look different?
Thank you silver

i flashed ICS3 but i cant seem to download anything no links work anywhere to download. says download starting then when i check on it says it failed. is there anything i can do?
Got collectiveics3 working
I had been having boot loop problems, and when I finally got it running the acore FC was killing me because it ground everything to a halt over and over again.
I flashed Superlite 4.5, which wiped and then ran OK but I got ambitious and flashed the UCALC5 modem and it turned into a nightmare... every touch of the screen would freeze me up for a minute or more.
I reflashed the romracer kernal and the UCALC4 modem, then reflashed collectiveics3 and that gave me a working ics, but the apex crashes were making life difficult (trying to log on to the market took me over an hour because the keyboard kept dissapearing, but I finally got there and updated Apex and TiBu and reinstalled the TiBu key... that let me restore the stuff I lost to the superlite flash... but something didn't play nice with the ROM.
Reflashed superlite, reflashed collectiveics3, re-updated Apex and TiBu, and then rloaded most of my apps from the maeket, restored data ONLY from user apps (and was picky about which ones I chose) and I can hapily say everything seems to be working properly for me...
In the interest complying with the Q&A for this thread... here's a question.
I was in a strong LTE area for a couple hours but couldn't find where to tell the phone to use it... The settings on the Rogers GB ROM are self evident... where do I find them on this one?
I am anxiously awaiting the updated link, but headed to a cottage that's off the grid and nowhere near cellular service in an hour or so, so I guess I'm in no hurry until Monday now... may as well take the pressure off so he can make it absolutely perfect.
Jamie
@Silver
Does this ROM have the option in the settings menu to turn off LTE? I think that option in your GB ROM saved me some battery life, and I would love to see it in this ROM. This ICS kernel or radio seems to really suck battery, I'm glad I have the 15 toggle to turn off data completely when I'm at work.
another Q what's the difference between the theme link on Post #4 of DEV Thread and the ROM that will be posted in OP?
Here http://www.theandroidcollective.org/i727/SilverRom/silverics.zip
Some thing i have have concluded about the ics leak. And my rom instructions
Use cwm 5.0.2.6 and only this version. It is in the dev section in a cwm recovery.tar
Works everytime for me on this cwm version
Do not use rom manager to install it. Our device is very similar to the t989 but there is something different to where the skyrockrt will always have recovery issues. Unless we get our own specific for us.
Do not wipe anything....just flash no wipes.
Wipes cause bootloops in my rom.
If u abide by these directions. You will be all good.
Enjoy
Still not finished the rom but it is a work in progress as this was built from a leak eith many bugs.
Its fast and smooth. New apex version...new live wallpapers.
Included usefull apps.

Boot back into cwm manualy and reflash the zip again. Did you wipe anything in cwm before you flashed?

i think it did. honestly this is my first time flashing my phone so im not surprised i screwed it up.
i just tried installing the zip again and it says it will fully wipe. it didnt give me an option to choose to wipe or not. how can i install it without wiping?

dont wipe anything manually. Just flash silvers ics rom. It will wipe what it needs to. Do that and if it bootloops again let us know.
Did tou ever get to the bootanimation during the first boot after flash?

ok then i did it right the first time. i didnt manually wipe anything. i just went to install zip from sd card and installed it. after it was installed it went to the bootanimation and maybe completed half of it. then it restarted and started looping and then the bootanimation would not come back. just the samsung logo looping. i ended up going back to stock so at least i got my phone working again
for this rom to work do i need to be running 4.0.3? when i tried to install it i was running 2.3.5. could that have been the problem?

So I left Apple, came to Android, rooted my VZW GS3. First time I've ever done anything like this, so I'm new to it. I backed up EVERYTHING using TiBu, did the IMEI backup, Full system/image backup using CWM, unlocked bootloader, etc. Then I flashed to Synergy r46 (august 20th - yesterday's release).
Now I'm at work and my back-up pulled my contacts via Verizon's server, but how do I get back EVERYTHING else? SMS/MMS logs, call logs, apps, app data, etc? Do I need to download TiBu again (fresh from google market) and then load my backups off my Ext-SD card, or what? I guess I'm a bit confused as to where my TiBu items were even stored/saved...I assume it was the ExtSD card, otherwise I would have lost them all upon flashing to Synergy, correct?
Any help to get all my apps and data back on my newly Synergized phone would be awesome!!!! Thanks in advance!!!
Yes download titanium and then point it to the directory you had your back ups saved to (its sd card by default, and which is your phone storage btw) then tab to backup/restore click the check, then once your app data populates, and select run next to restore apps and data.

I used titanuium backup pro to back up all my Apps and system data. And when I flash a new rom I just redownload titanium pro and it automatically restores all my Apps and system data. It is the easiest app I have used. So to answer ur question.....back up ur apps with titanium then after flashing a new rom go and redownload titanium and restore your system data and apps or just apps alone if that's what u prefer? Does that answer ur question or would u like more detailed instructions?

Another very nice feature of Titanium Backup is its ability to pull data from CWM nandroids. There have been a few times where I was quick to flash a new rom without doing a backup of my apps. This has saved me much time from having to re-flash the nandroid backup, backup via TB, then re-flash to the new rom.

This is one thing that scares me...I don't quite understand what's being wiped or how to perform a full wipe. I hope I don't do this on accident on day...When I flashed the ROM, I basically booted into CWM recovery and installed from there....I was unable to install by opening the ROMs ZIP file via ROM Manager. When I tried to install this way, it failed.
Can somebody confirm if I flashed correctly, just to put my worries to rest? Here's how I did it...
I backed everything up, unlocked bootloader, and tried to install Synergy r46 via ROM manager, but I had problem. I had the ZIP for the ROM downloaded to my Ext-SD card, like the installation instructions say. I then opened ROM Manager and went to "install ROM from SD card." The phone rebooted and opened in CWM to install...But kept having problems finding some "path" or something.
So I decide to wing it and rebooted into CWM. I cleared davik cache(sp?), then user data, then navigated to my Ext-SD and selected the ROM ZIP to install. Now, everything seems fine and it says it installed successfully, but I still think I installed in a way that wasn't described.
Is this a legit install and is this how most people flash ROMs, from booting directly into CWM, or should ROM manager have worked for me via "install ROM from SD card???" If so, why didn't ROM Manager work for me?
Rather urgent question: When I restore my items, do I want to click "RESTORE MISSING APPS + ALL SYSTEM DATA?" ill this restore the bloatware that was on my phone prior to flashing????? If so, is there any way around it
Thanks a bunch! Just waiting on an answer to the later questions before I restore.

I am wondering if you didn't do the full wipe. If you are using CWM v6.0.1.0 then there is no option labeled "user data" it is "wipe data/factory reset" which is the full wipe like I mentioned.
As far as doing it correctly, as you may have already noticed there is more than one way to do about anything. Personally, I still use CWM v6.0.1.0 and flash the zips there.
P.S. I see you are enjoying your freedom of losing your apples!
Also, tell me how your r46 is working ... I have held off at r23 while they are playing around with kernels and ramdisk tweaks for awhile.
Hi, I'm pretty much in the same boat as the OP coming from an iphone and this is my first android phone. My problem is that all of the synergy roms (r39, 46, 50 and 1.7) I tried were unstable and kept rebooting randomly. I unlocked the boot loader and believe I did everything right. Did I miss a step? I restored back my nandroid after several attempts at Synergy. I like the responsiveness and tweaks of Synergy but I couldn't deal with the random reboots. Sometimes it would just continue in a boot loop too.

I'm fairly certain I did "wipe data/factory reset," I just wasn't sure how it was labeled when I typed that out, but that's really ringing a bell. I think I may have gotten the errors before (using ROM Manager) because I hadn't factory reset? Seems to me I'm good to go! However, my question regarding TiBu still remains.
Edit: In regards to informing you about r46, I'm not sure what to report as I've never used a previous Synergy and have no idea how to compare, other than to the rooted stock ROM. I have heard reports of battery life being worse than the stock ROM, and I can confirm this. I've barely used the phone since I flashed to Synergy and it's dropped 15% battery life in ~3 hours. Seems faster than before but I'm unsure.

I started getting that sort of behavior so I just restored back to my stock rooted backup and reflashed Synergy 1.7 r23 and then reflashed the theme I'm using. I thought my issues came from other modifications I had tried so I will try to remember to report back to this post tomorrow and tell you if I'm still having those similar issues or if I'm stable again.

Was 1.7 r23 supposed to be a really stable release? I read through some of the Synergy thread and didn't see anyone having the issues I had. I felt like I was doing something wrong.

I have never had a hot boot or boot loop using any version of synergy. I've been running it since 1.3 and flashed last night's rom as well. What method of unlock did you use for the bootloader unlock? Did you see the custom kernel loaded into phone settings?

I agree I have yet to have Synergy boot loop although I'm still on 1.7. I would try to wipe cache and dalvik cache and see if that helps or you could be over clocking to high.

I don't know the answer to that specifically. All I know was that I was stable before another modification I made (that said it wouldn't work but I tried it anyway). Since restoring from backup and reloading Synergy and theme I have not seen any weird rebooting anymore.

I'm not familiar with that method. I've only used Odin, even when I did have to redo everything I used Odin to stock de-bloated rooted .md5 then CWM'd from there.
So I'm giving it another shot on r50. I made sure to clear dalvik, cache and data. After flashing It gave me the reboot problems again. I installed system tuner to change the cpu back to 1.5. Maybe it's from the overclock but we'll see how it goes. Is everyone leaving it overclocked on 1.9 not having issues?

That may very well be the issue. 1.9ghz is a very aggressive overclock, and i wouldn't be surprised if was unstable on a good number of phones. Synergy's supposed to boot at 1.5ghz max by default - I don't know whether that was successfully implemented. I personally think it's silly to OC such a capable phone, anyway. Back in the days of the Droid 1, an overclock from the stock 550mhz to 800mhz-900mhz was an enormous improvement. Today, the only thing OCing the S3 gets you is a <10% improvement in Quadrant, more heat, possible instability, and no perceptible difference outside of those silly synthetic benchmarks.
Anyway, in this thread, there seems to be a fair bit of confusion as far as what's what in the android partitions. I'll give you a short rundown.
"aboot" is what's referred to here as the bootloader. It checks to see whether the next partition in the boot sequence, "boot", is authorized. When you unlocked your bootloader, you overwrote aboot with a version that does not perform that check.
"boot" contains your kernel. If your ROM has a custom kernel, it contains a boot.img to overwrite boot.
"system" is the meat of the OS. This is primarily what ROMs flash.
"data" contains all of your apps and settings. When you perform a factory reset, you're reformatting data. If you're flashing a ROM that is significantly different from what you're on now, some of those old settings and data can cause errors, force closes, random reboots, and boot loops. When in doubt, wipe data before flashing a new ROM. When going from one version of a ROM to a newer, very similar version of the same ROM (nightly to nightly), you probably don't need to wipe data, but make a backup just in case. dalvik-cache is also in data; if you wipe data, you've automatically wiped the dalvik cache. It's redundant to wipe data and then wipe dalvik cache.
"cache" is just that, the cache partition. Clearing it won't make you loose anything, at least not anything Android won't silently replace.
So far it seems to be pretty stable on r50. I installed system tuner and brought it down to 1.5 Ghz. I'm not sure why 1.9 is set to default. Doesn't seem like a good idea to me. Thanks all for the help/advice.
Newbe to vzw Samsung Galaxy s3.... I kind of enjoyed the TouchWiz features in the vzw store. Can someone point me in the right direction for a touchwiz rom with root where I can use the hand swipe to do a screen snapshot, etc, etc?

I did see someone post something about a version 1.7, but for the life of me I don't see that.

Device came preloaded with AOPK. I have not activated it yet. It's to replace my HTC Thunderbolt. I was wanting to put on a TouchWiz rom and load that first before trying to activate. Then once activated, I was going to get all my apps back from the market, etc.
I downloaded Synergy 1.7 from the download area. I copied it to a UTILITIES folder on the internal card. I did a MD5 checksum prior to installing Synergy and the checksum was perfect.
I then went to install zip from internal sd. I navigated to the UTILITIES folder, and selected the Synergy zip file. It then did some processing for a few minutes and told me it was done.
It was at that time I rebooted the device, and from there it sat on that Synergy boot animation.
I then tried several battery pulls after it was at the boot animation for 30 minutes or so. But they all just sat at the boot animation. Finally I attempted to get into recovery mode. I am not sure if I selected the proper keys, but used Power button, Home button, and Volume down button.
That's how I ended up where I am now.
Sorry I didn't see your message until just now. I will try again and report back in just a sec.
Did you make a backup before the flash? Did you wipe data before the flash? Have you been able to get into recovery as I mentioned above?
