Hi there,
I've spent ages looking around and found countless numbers of posts in this forum and posts from other android phones about removing CWM and flashing to original recovery. Even so, there is still no definitive way anyone has said that will do this.
Please can someone just state very clearly, step-by-step (me being a noob) how I can remove CWM and flash back to my original LG Optimus 3D (T-mobile UK) recovery? - I want to do this so when there is a stock software update I will have no trouble updating.
I'll appreciate any help so much you will be helping me a lot, thank you!!
Theoretically all we need is a zip we can flash with clockwork that just contains a stock recovery.
Sent from my LG-P920 using XDA Premium App
Thanks for the quick reply.
So, am I correct in saying we cannot actually do this yet?
Or is it possible to somehow totally backup the recovery partition on a untouched O3D to zip format? (Im recovery has a devoted partition no?)
And then devise a method, maybe using android skd/adb or some tool, to flash recovery partition (CWM) with the backup at a later date?

Hello...this is my first post!!! I would like to start off by saying this forum rules and I have learned so much from you guys here. I have rooted, installed custom roms, bricked, and restored my sgs4g, galaxy exhibit, and huawei prism. The issue is with the huawei. Its not a bad phone, I was able to root it, install cwm, and flash cm7 to it (with the help of your wonderful forum :good The issue is with charging the phone. When you try to charge it while its shutoff it boots into recovery mode. I saw somewhere that it was the version of cwm I was using and updated to version 5. The same thing still happens with this version and its my teenager's phone so this is kind of a pain. Its backed up, and I realize it can be restored but I saw somewhere in your forum someone suggested to flash the stock recovery image. That would be great but I have had no luck finding this image. I tried flashing the only stock recovery image for huawei I could find, but it would not let me (install aborted). I'm running U8650 cm7, but I believe the phones a U8651 (its a prism). Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated

I've never tried with stock recovery, so I can't tell you, sorry
Hello everyone,
I just bought a Verizon Galaxy S3 and I am in the process of rooting it. Im kinda freaking out because things really arent going that well for me. So far what I've done is root and unlock bootloader. Here is where the problem starts. When I try to reboot into CWM recovery it just boots me into the normal android recovery. Is this normal? every video I have watched shows people manually rebooting straight into CWM. The only way I can get it to work is if I go into EZ recovery and press "Flash" then "Reboot Into Recovery" buttons.
My second area of confusion is regarding the IMEI backup. Is this something everyone does when flashing roms on this phone? I am very confused as to what I'm supposed to do. Do I use the adb or download a terminal app from the play store? If someone could clarify that would be great !
Sorry if these questions are pathetic but this is my first time doing this and it's a learning experience I geuss. Here are the links to the guides I used for what I have done so far.

I recently saw someone have a problem getting custom recovery persist, and another member pointed out a step you needed to do to get it to stick. I'll see if I can locate that post and add it to this post.
As far as IMEI goes, you only need to back it up once, and then you are good to go. Perform step a followed by step b in the backup thread.

Alright thanks, so for most people once they flash it once it should stay every time they reboot into recovery? I have probably the noobiest question of all time, what does flashing CWM recovery even do? is it like flashing a rom where it just gets baked in to the OS permanently? Or does it actually provide a backup of data because I thought thats what nandroids were for.
Havent found exactly what I was recalling as far as the recovery problem, but I found something in a thread below this that makes me think maybe your bootloader wasnt unlocked properly. What version (if any) of ez recovery did you use?
Also, flashing CWM (ideally, at least) replaces the stock recovery with the clockworkmod recovery. Then, when you boot into CWM, that is where you make a backup (nandroid) of your current ROM. Once you have backups made you can quickly switch between ROMs by restoring the nandroids.
I hope I understood your question correctly and also answered it properly.

Yes you did, thank you so much. In the tutorial I used it was saying that the newer versions of EZ unlock were having problems so I downloaded version 1.2. How do I proceed if my bootloader was unlocked improperly? Also, I went in to EZ recovery and flashed CWM and made a nandroid backup if this matters.
Thanks so much for your help.
If you used version 1.2 then my point was moot. So you can only get into CWM if you install CWM from ez recovery and then hit reboot into recovery? If you do the hold vol up + home button while powering on it always takes you to stock recovery?
Yep its very weird. Not sure what to do.
Someone else will likely be able to chime in on how to correct this, unfortunately (or fortunately? lol) it hasnt happened to me so I havent had to deal with it. Its not a huge deal so I wouldnt worry about it.
Personally I use TWRP recovery. You can try that and see if it will stick, you can always go back to CWM later. Try it in ez recovery, or Goo manager from the play store (I use goo manager). If you want to try installing it from goo manager, install the app, hit menu, then select install open recovery script.
K cool. So would it hurt me if I just used ez recovery to flash and reboot everytime I need to get into CWM? Also for goo manager does that install the one you were talking about or CWM?

Goo manager is only for TWRP recovery. And as long as the backups are being stored and you can access them the next time you get into CWM, it doesnt matter. Like I said, hopefully someone will be able to tell you how to correct this issue and we will both learn a thing or two from it.
Did you follow Step 12 in Section 2 in the first link you posted?
You have to make sure to go to CWM v6.0.1 in the drop down and install that version of Clockwork Mod Recovery.
I'm not sure if that's the cause of your issue, but you may want to check into that
Yep i did that

Hi all,
I am farily new to Android and by reading the forum have been able to root and am using ClockWorkMod o my Galaxy Note 10.1 8013. I am pretty happy with all that
So now that JB is out, I went to settings on the Device and did the sofware updated. It download a ~500MB files, then rebooted into CWM which attempted to load the firmware. It then gave me a text error that looked like some code evaluation that was failing (sorry, I did not write it down)
I made backups of my device using CWM, both to the internal card and to the extsdcard. However the external backup failed becuase it could not access /data. I also created an update.zip on the intneral card.
I've read that I *might* be able to upgrade to JB via Kies, but I see a lot of problem posts with this.
So my questions are:
- What is the right/best way to upgrade to JB?
- Do I need to revert to stock firmware first?
- If the Kies process works, will that wipe my data?
- What is the best way to wipe my data and then restore it?
- If I create a full backup using CWM and restore it, does that backup include ICS (hence overwriting JB if I successfully upgrade)?
- I see the term ROM, firmware, OS tossed around alot; I know what these terms mean, but is there any difference, for instance I would think that both CWM and JB are firmware and ROMS and JB is the OS. So when people speak of ROM and firmware what are they really referring to?
- Will I lose all my data and apps and if so what is the best way to back them up and restore them? (I have both the CMW Backup and Titanium backups)
- Is there a cannonical reference for steps like this? It seems like there are alot of questions and suggestions but I cannot find a complete reference.
Thanks in advance. I apologize if this info is readily available in one spot. I've not found it yet.

Root phones may fail OTA update .
So my questions are:

Samsung use Kies or OTA
- Do I need to revert to stock firmware first?
No if using Kies .

No

CWM Recovery format data sd card .

Backup is whatever you backed up .

CWM is advanced recovery not firmware .
OS is Android system .
Rom is a firmware of any type .

There are reference posts covering flashing and rooting .

But as to a full guide no and as 99% refuse to read the basics faqs and guides i would not compile one .

Well what you can do is download the JB stock firmware and then install it using Odin.
I would advice against installing OTA using CWM it is not a safe method.
Both the download link and tutorial can be found on the links in my signature
Thanks guys, this helped a lot
I used Kies to get JB installed, that wiped CWM and Root, so I just redid that process (a lot easier this time). So it seems like the 'Recovery mode' is a special boot firmware that can be used to load other firmware. So what I did was, downloaded and installed the new JB OS firmware which put the stock Recovery firmware back in place, upgrade the OS and left all my apps and data alone. Then I used ODIN to load the CWM firmware and then I applied the root software from the zip file. Sound like an accurate summary?
How does the root software actually work? I am familiar with froot on Unix but this seems different.
Hi there!
Few days back I had a problem of low internal memory. I posted the problem, got some responses, then followed cute prince's Nandroid restoring tutorial. Flashed the latest Cm9, all was working fine. Then again needed a change (I'm kinda flashaholic ), wiped / reset my phone thru TWRP recovery (whatever is the procedure) and was unable to flash any single rom onwards. Tried to flash stock rom, even tried to restore my 6 months old cwm recoveries, but nothing boots up. I also tried to flash boot.img thru fastboot and flash the rom consequently but it too didn't work.
Now, I have no rom on my explorer except getting to bootloader, fastboot, TWRP or Clockworkmod recoveries. I can't do the nandroid restore as told by cute prince, now.
So I would have to post again here in the forum for the above problem. Here, what I need is to find out about what went wrong actually and what is the solution to the problem!! I hope am not talking about bricking the phone or something.
An urgent reply is highly appreciated, please
Regards.

Hey everyone,
My little brother is trying to learn more things about mobile devices and wanted to have a go at my old piece of junk, stock optimus one p500h. So i let him have a go and now it's not working so here is the problem.
First he rooted it and that worked fine with gingeroot and then proceeded to install romanager which bricked the phone but he was able to recover the phone with a recovery.img and using LGMDP-v1.5 and emergency mode.
After that he installed some android system recovery thing "RA-thunderg-1.2.0-gnn" not sure what the software was originally, regardless he tried flashing from the flash from zip from sdcard and used a cyanogenmod zip which he said worked and then the phone said success and rebooted.
Now the phone just sits at the cyanogenmod loading screen and will not boot.
I am able to get into the recovery menu with home, down and power and emergency mode also works.
Where did he go wrong and what does he need to do in order to get this to work properly? Thanks for your help everyone and sorry if the post is a bit disjointed i'm trying to translate what he's saying into the post xD

If running a Windows PC and the device can boot in to fastboot, you can use Android Flash Recovery ( link in my signature ) to flash another recovery image. There are some more complicated ways using ADB, but well try to avoid them ATM You can also use LGMDP to flash a different recovery image. There are several floating around here at XDA.
As for where he went wrong, I cannot say. Piece of advice, if in doubt - don't do it.
Have you tried booting to recovery and wiping cache and dalvik cache then attempt to boot to Andorid?

thanks for the fast reply, looks like recovery is gone now? I had attempted to clear the cache though. Would you mind giving me a step by step as im unsure of what i need to do now xD not sure what i need downloaded or to do what with what after my brothers done all this haha
Just flash a recovery from LGMDP for your phone.. then download a rom for your phone and wipe everything in recovery and flash the rom
And do not flash stock rom from kdz or lgmdp if you cannot boot your phone. It has high chances of bricking

Cm7(except a very old one from mik_os), stock gb and up requires new baseband. You can search for baseband fix and install through recovery ( I don't remember if it's old bb fix or new bb fix, try for yourself )
You can also search how to install new bb permanently but it's more difficult and has(I think) chances of bricking your phone
