Added uninstall protection. The engine is in test stage so feel free to report problems.
It does not recognize sms commands, phone just acting like receiving ordinary message. I have GO Sms pro installed, maybe that's the reason...

Hello Sir,
Please read the documentation and watch the introductory video to understant how the system works.
Android os dont allow the devs to overwrite the home key so yes any time you press the home key will get you to the home screen ( this happens with all the security apps in the android market ) but anti theft control has a smart engine to not allow you to navigate anywhere else. For example you press home key and the lock screen disappears for 3 seconds if you try fast to open anything between these 3 seconds it will not let you and will popup faster the lock screen. The phone is totally unusable even with the ability to hide the lock screen for 3 seconds. Thats the reason there is the uninstall protection and the Administrator rights for the app so even if you are able to hide the screen for 3 seconds (until pop ups again) you cant close services or uninstall anything.
hope this helps.

Thanks my reply. This is accually great app and im sattisfied with it. Few smaller issues but other than that great.
It would be great if you could create SMS command to send GPS location when you send that GPS command. Not only when you lock your phone.
Thanks.
Hi there
After last update, the phone locked by itself, now I can move just between sms (double click on home screen) and AntiTheftControl lock screen
Is there any way to temporary disable software or bypass this screen ?
Thanks a lot in advance

Hello and thank you for your attention. I will not release the apk to the forums but its so easy to install it from the market what's the problem?
The brand New Engine "Perimeter Security Zone". Now you can set a perimeter zone from your location (center point) and when this perimeter is bridged the phone will take immediate action. With this way you can secure that your phone is in the place you left it.
2013 Release is out! Happy New Year guys

We really dont know. We never got a reply from google about the removal. however the app is again available on the Play Store with some changes.
what happens if someone steal it and want to restore the factory settings or perhaps go to recovery
If he goes to recovery you can't help it.. Password protecting download/recovery mode isn't supported atm..
Seems nice, I might try it on my S3 but I would like to see a few questions answered first
You can send a SMS command to the phone without locking it down? The purpose is to get as much as GPS positions first without the robber knowing. The program sends the new SIM card info (number) to a predefined number? :good:
btw, if I don't like the app, disabling Administration Rights option and uninstall protection option and uninstalling it normally (as I would do with any app) will remove it as if it was never on the phone?

After reading THIS story about how the cops can now search your cell phone without a warrant, I started looking for a way to protect my privacy.
The trouble is, I've tried all the password protected lock screen apps, and they're just too much of a PITA - unlocking the phone dozens of times per day when I would rarely need it to actually be "locked". What I really want is an app that will securely lock down my phone on-demand. Preferably based on hardware trigger like holding down the trackball on my N1, but that could be setup later.
I thought of a few options that might be popular too:
-Make the lock screen all black so that someone might think the phone is off.
-Make the lock screen look like a calculator; "I wasn't texting while driving officer, this is just a calculator."
-Make the lock screen display the 4th amendment.
-If the phone is restarted when the lock screen was on, the phone boots back into the lock screen.
-When the lock screen is activated, it will begin encrypting all the data on your SD card.
-Have the app record failed attempts to unlock it.
So... what do you guys think? Useful?
Thanks,
Billy
I would love something like that!
Id love this app/
Sent from my Sourcery using XDA App
I had some program before that showed a "fake crash message", where you could unlock the phone by tapping the text 2 or 5 times, tilt the phone and etc. Very neat.
I also would love this kind of app!
I love it! I'd go for this.

Damn.. If you need to encrypt data on your phone's SD card you should probably re-think your security strategy and hide your sensitive information on a hard drive with TrueCrypt using their hidden partitions or something haha.
Phones are easily stolen and therefore not a good place for that stuff
But one semi-close idea/alternative to what you want, that you can also use now for the time being is available in at least the CyanogenMod CM6.1 roms(not sure about other roms seeing as I only repo sync his stuff ).
Under 'CyanogenMod Settings' and then 'User Interface' there are screen lock options..
You can set the 'screen timeout delay' (determines the delay time after screen times out for when the lock will enable) to 30 minutes and the 'screen turned off delay' (how long after you press the power/end button the lock will enable) to instantly.
With it setup like that, you'll be able to greatly reduce the number of times you need to unlock your phone as long as you let it time out - which could be a slight downfall though if you have a screen time out of a minute or more and you don't want to keep the screen on. Regardless, whenever you want it locked simply turn the screen off manually and it will be engaged next time you turn the screen on.
Hope that works out until someone finds/develops an app that will do what you want/need

Thanks for the reply and the suggestion. I totally hear ya on that first part. I was mostly trying to think of useful features, not ones that I necessarily need. I wasn't sure if you could encrypt the data on the SD Card and then continue to use it (without a huge hit to the speed).
I wouldn't think my idea would be that hard to code (at least the basic structure of it). Maybe it's time for me to learn. 800+ views, but no dev input?

JeepFreak PM'ed me asking for some input so I'll provide it both as a dev and as a user.
Lock screens are tricky to implement. Android doesn't officially support replacement lock screens and I'll admit to a fair amount of API abuse in order to get WidgetLocker to work as well as it does. But I've thus far avoided implementing any custom security for a few reasons:
1) Making it actually secure. Android's built in security is not perfect, but it is secure. Third party apps can't fully deactivate it once it's locked. The APIs that let you bypass part of it only allow that part. (This is stock Android, I know manufactures addons introduce security flaws). A third party app simply doesn't have the same information or abilities as part of the rom.
2) Reboots are hard. Android sends a BOOT_COMPLETED signal to apps (if they want it) however it's near the end of the boot process, meaning the stock lock screen is already active and the Launcher is active behind it. One way around this is to act as a replacement Launcher (Like WidgetLocker's HomeHelper) however this can cause the actual launcher to reload sometimes as it's removed from memory.
3) Explaining things is hard. If adding a kind of fake-security, that's just meant to deter a friend (or cop I guess) from messing with your phone, then some users won't realize it's just meant as a kind of fake-security and will freak out when they realize it can be bypassed by such and such method.

One not-well-known option, if you're on GSM, is that if you pull the SIM card, all your accounts credentials are revoked, locking out gmail/etc. I haven't tested if deactivating the sim remotely (via a phone call to the carrier, or maybe from some carrier's websites) would trigger the same thing but I imagine it would.
-Make the lock screen all black so that someone might think the phone is off.

It can be very confusing if the phone is actually on or not, especially since there is a slight lag between when you hit the power button and when the screen comes on. On AMOLED screens it looks like the screen is off, on LCD screens the backlight comes on, but could be set to be pretty dim (Setting backlight all the way down may cause the screen to actually turn off and ignore touches)
This could actually be done with WidgetLocker by setting the background to black, then using the back button to unlock. After I release the update with themes you could even have an invisible (or all black) slider so you slide to unlock but only in a certain position.
-Make the lock screen look like a calculator; "I wasn't texting while driving officer, this is just a calculator."
Click to collapse
Not that using a calculator while driving is a good idea either...
If I end up adding security to WidgetLocker I'll make it themable as well so it would be possible for the pin screen to look like a calculator.
-If the phone is restarted when the lock screen was on, the phone boots back into the lock screen.

I assume you mean this for a lock screen that wouldn't normally be activate automatically. See above about reboots.
-When the lock screen is activated, it will begin encrypting all the data on your SD card.

The best setup would be for the sdcard to always be encrypted (And still usable as it'd be mounted via loop back ( https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EncryptedFilesystems ) so it's still usable normally by other programs. Then even if the enemy pulls the sd card right away it's not usable. This kind of encryption must be implemented at the system/rom level.

Getting bug reports for such an app would be tricky to deceiver .
This would also be possible with WidgetLocker using a custom background that looked like a crash screen. There's no current way for tapping the text a few times to unlock, however a third party dev could implement a widget or shortcut that did such a thing.
ok, ive developed a makeshift idea, and id be willing to give this a shot myself:
first off, there is a free app called "lock screen widget", which will solve the problem of quick access to the lockscreen for people without a hardware "lock" button
next, maybe i could find a lockscreen app (it owuld have to be free, otherwise i wouldnt be able to post it in here, due to warez) and rip open the .apk and just make the framework allllll black.
a few things to keep in mind:
-you would have to memorize where to touch the screen to unlock your phone
-a cop could get lucky and swipe the right spot on the screen
-if you have LED backlit buttons on your phone, they could still light up when the screen is locked, indicating to the officer that the phone is in fact on
let me know what you guys think of this
How about just a swipe to lock? I too hate constantly unlocking my phone but if I could just lock it at the lock screen then this would most likely trigger the need for a warrant to access my phone by law enforcement.
Not that I am a criminal but I hate the idea that law enforcement can do whatever they want with your data if it is on your person.
Just a thought, could the swipe to silence the phone be redirected to lock it instead?

Short description:
Getting Started...
==================
- Click add to select contact, group, or special number
- Set your contact or group incoming call preferences (detailed below)
Contacts, Groups and Special Numbers
====================================
- If you chose a contact with more than one phone number, you have to choose a specific number
- If you chose a group, the selected setup would be applied on all contacts within the group
- If a contact is removed from a group, the app would update itself on the next run.
Note: until next run, the removed contact is still considered as within the group
- You can also setup your incoming call preferences for 'blocked number'.
Note: this option is not for unlisted numbers in the phone's contact list
Incoming Call & Sms Preferences
=========================
- Choose between Loud, Vibrate or Silent per contact or group
- Define after how many calls or messages to activate above setup. The simple setup - after one call or message - means to activate the setup for each incoming call or sms
- If you chose two or more calls, a period of time in minutes is also needed to define the complete setup. For example, make the phone ring for contact 'X', after 2 calls within 10 minutes
- Loud would be activated when the phone is on silent or vibrate mode
- Vibrate would be activated only when the phone is on silent mode
- Silent would be activated when the phone is on loud or vibrate mode. Note that silent is activated for each call
- After confirmed, setup would also appear in the application's main screen. If two or more incoming calls are selected, a red indication with the number of calls would show up on the setup icon
Auto Activation and Popup Alert
===============================
- In the application's main screen, the bottom right button would indicate whether the setup is activated or not. A green light means enabled, while a red light means disabled
- You can manually enable or disable the selected setup by pressing the bottom right button
- In the settings screen, you can choose to auto activate when phone state is changed to vibrate or silent
- If auto activation is not selected, you can choose whether to use popup alert when the phone state is changed to vibrate or silent
- If popup alert is enabled and ringer mode change is detected, you can choose whether to activate Smart N' Loud, or use 'real silent' mode
- Choosing the 'always' option would set the auto activation option for next time. In order to change it, use the settings screen
Further Help
============
- In case you encountered any problems and you need further help, please contact us using the 'contact us' button in the settings screen
- If you like the application, please help us and rank us. Thanks!
Wow that is a nice idea. Not only for your Boss but for a lot of other situations.

great :good:
This looks like a great app. I've tried a lot of apps like this one because I want to have my phone in silent mode in the night but I've also got a few contacts that I want to know if they call me.
How do I disable your app? If I switch my phone to silent mode, your app asks me if I want to turn it on. That's a very nice feature. But if I say yes but then later want to turn off the app and keep my phone in silent mode no matter who calls me, how do I turn off your app so it doesn't override my silent setting?
Hi,
In that case you have to change your phone back to loud, and when you change again to silent, just press "No".
I guess i could add another checkbox inside the app which allows to "deactivate" the previous selected mode...i'll think about it for the next version...

If you could add those features, and perhaps auto-mute sms and non-call notifications while listening to music, playing a game or watching a video (either preconfigured if possible, or perhaps user-configurable, whatever is easier to develop) I would definitely use this instead of Sanity.
That's not a bad idea, but its kind of a different app... I don't know if it is possible to do all the things you listed, but i'll check it...

Easy Lock
Double tap status bar/nav bar/lockscreen/notification shade to quickly put your device to sleep!
Double-tapping status bar does NOT work in Android 8 and above. Only double tap anywhere or double tap homescreen will work due to changes in system APIs.

All features of the app are available for free, without any ads. (The in-app purchase inside the app will not work as the app has been removed from play store)
Please do not mirror without permission. Link to this thread or play store page if you want to share this app elsewhere. So that users will know where to check for updates and get support from.
Please note: Hopefully it won't come to this, but just in case, to uninstall the app, you'll have to deactivate device admin permission first (Settings -> Security -> Device Admin -> Easy Lock).[/SIZE]
_
Permissions explained
Admin permission is required to turn of the screen and put the phone to sleep
Lollipop smart lock is not supported by Device Admin. It's an Android system limitation. However, smart lock is supported by Easy Lock if you have root access. If you see a prompt for root access, this is what that's for.
Draw over other apps permission is required to detect double taps.
App Usage Statistics (in Lollipop and above) is required if you enable the option 'Try to avoid soft key presses'. This permission will be requested only if you enable this option.

Update v1.1
Added option to avoid lock screen touches
Minor bug fixes
Update is currently rolling out in Google Play.
Update to Easy Lock
v1.3
- Fixed a bug which causes the app to request admin permissions even when it was already granted.
Update is available in Google Play Store.
I had added an option to enable double-tap anywhere to lock the screen. I'm sure it'll be a nuisance for most people, since it'll get activated while typing, double tap to zoom photos etc, but there were some requests for it. However, that update was rejected by Play Store. Hence I've disabled that feature in the play store version of the app. If anyone is interested in the above mentioned feature, I can upload an apk having double tap anywhere to lock functionality.
Not available in Google play, can u please give me the download link, i love this app

Unfortunately the app has been removed from the Play Store because it interacts too much with System UI. I'll upload the apk here by tomorrow.

No problem and thanks, anyway the double tap on softkey to sleep is big problem, even the function to prevent it doesnt work, good luck

Amazing work!
I've traditionally always rooted my android devices, but with marshmallow I'm trying to keep them stock for the security/stability benefits. My new Huawei Honor 8 didn't have a double tap to sleep feature built in, and with no root I couldn't use gravitybox to get it. I also couldn't find anything satisfactory in the app store, as I just wanted something that would make the device sleep, but not wake up (my phone wakes up by itself as soon as you touch the fingerprint scanner). The V1.2 of this app works perfectly! I lowered the double tap to 150ms, which seems to be about as fast as I can comfortably double tap the status bar/nav bar, but is faster than I would normally mash the back button, removing the need for ignoring the nav buttons. Plus it seems to take no more than 40mb of ram, with it averaging more about 25mb, which is great. Luckily for me, Huawei's EMUI implementation of android prevents your app from interfering with the fingerprint scanner, even without root. I tested your app on my galaxy tab s2 (also running android 6.0.1) and as expected, using it to sleep the device interfered with the fingerprint scanner, but not so on this great little Huawei device (I just had it on my tablet for testing, it already turns itself on/off with its flip cover). I can understand why Google removed it from the play store (at anything over 250ms it's easily to accidentally trigger with the back button) but I'm glad I found it. I've never actually had a button wear out or break on me because I upgrade phones too often, but it still feels nice to be able to turn my phone on and off without any buttons. Great work!
Edit: it's really too bad that the donate button doesn't work. Do you have any other apps in the play store that I could buy/donate to support you?
Wow, thanks for the app! Working great on my S7 edge (unrooted).
Just tried it on my pixel xl works great but the only gripe I have is that when it locks the phone I can't use my fingerprint reader to open it after which is making me not use it anymore because it's so much faster to use the fingerprint scanner. If that's fixed I'll definitely be using it.
Thanks

@aravindsagar Hi, I have the same problem on my Z5 Compact. When I double tap the status bar, the phone locks.
But when I wake it up, if I use my fingerprint to unlock, I also have my patern (or pin, or password, whatever security is set) → Double security instead of one.
I only encounter this issue while using your app. If Easy Lock is disabled, I can unlock my phone just with my fingerprint.
Is their a way to fix this issue? (or an alternative to double tap status bar to lock?)
Thanks

same problem, any way to fix this issue?
Bump on this. Love it but need to be able to unlock with fingerprint sensor.
Other apps get around this by simply turning the screen off. Works great with amoled. Not sure how easy that is to implement.
I would donate for this if it would implement the method to lock the screen with root instead of using Admin (so, as mentioned in previous posts above, I could use the fingerprint reader to unlock afterwards). The shell command "input keyevent 26" does this as long as it's done with superuser access. I have a QuickTile through the Automate script app do exactly that currently, but I'd prefer to be able to double-tap the status bar instead of using a prime Quick Tile space.
This is horrible and will never replace the custom ROM feature. I can't use my fingerprint and I can't even enter my password without it locking again. It also locks when I double tap a softkey (even with the option to prevent against it).
If use device administrator, open lock cant using fingerprint, btw good app.. i search tap to sleep app that can using fingerprint to wake/unlock..
Arrow launcher has this. Always work.
Trying the Lawnchair (Pixel) launcher which lacks this feature. Only works on status bar. Users of this launcher want this!
(All permissions set up. MIUI device.)
Just a note, Arrow launcher has double tap anywhere to sleep, not double tap status bar, and it also has to be set to be a device Admin, so again the fingerprint reader is rendered useless. Not knocking Arrow Launcher, just wanted to specify in case others with fingerprint readers are tempted to try it for this purpose.
Is any option double tap to wake the device ?

XDA-Developers: Customize the Google Pixel 2’s Active Edge to do any action with Edge Sense Plus [XDA Spotlight]
What is Edge Sense Plus?
Edge Sense Plus was initially just meant for the HTC U series. It let's you customize the squeeze action and adds some more squeeze gestures and features.
But with the Pixel2 also coming with a squeezable frame I had the goal to make it compatible with it too.
..and after a couple of days debugging with @k4r70ng (I don't own the device, big thanks to him, was a great help) we are here now!
Requirements
You have to be on Oreo 8.1 or Android P.
You need to run a STOCK based ROM, because Active Edge is broken on AOSP roms.
You need to be rooted with magisk to use it.
Install the Active Edge System Mod Magisk Module from the MagiskManager Repo and the EdgeSensePlus from the playstore and you are ready to go!
Telegram Group
Join Telegram Edge Sense Plus Group
How does it work
To make it working on the Pixel2 I had to modify the SystemUIGoogle.apk that runs the ElmyraService (Service that processes the squeeze gestures).
I intercept the events and pass them to the EdgeSensePlus Application that starts the appropriate action then that you selected.
Some more adjustments were made, so the squeezing also works when you are in immersive mode, camera or when Google Assistant is deactivated/uninstalled.
What can it do?
Custom actions:
Currently you can choose from over different actions
Quickly Start camera - Also when screen is off and locked
Per App Action - Execute different squeeze actions depending in what app you are!
Sidebar
Gesture Panel - Draw custom gestures to start different actions
Custom App
Shortcuts - e.g. to make direct calls, start tasker tasks and more!

Per app actions:
With the per app action, you can define different squeeze actions per app. So the chosen action will be executed dependent in what app you are currently are.
Double Squeeze: (Premium)
If you often accidentally trigger a short squeeze, that won't happen anymore if you map your desired action to the double squeeze gesture.
You can define a double squeeze interval, to ensure you are quick enough to trigger it every time.
Long Squeeze:
Missed a long squeeze action on your Pixel? Edge Sense Plus has it!
G-Sensor usage: (Premium)
If enabled, will be able to execute different actions depending on the current position of your device, whether it is flat or upright in your hand.
That way you can have six different squeeze gestures: short, long, doublepress in flat or upright device position.
Media control:
The media control will override your set squeeze actions while media is playing so you can control your media.
That includes play/pause, increase/decrease volume and skip to next and previous track.
Squeeze sounds:
Ever thought it would be funny if a squeeze of your Pixel2 would make a sound, if it is a *click*, *oink* , *fart* or whatever you think of?
You can use any .mp3 file to make that happen!
Sidebar:
The Sidebar has 4 different panels, Applications, Shortcuts, Recent Apps (Premium), Quicksettings (Premium).
Panel colors are customizable
Instructions
You must be on at least Oreo 8.1 to to be able to use it. Root with Magisk is required since the magisk module is mandatory!
It is recommended to have a working TWRP backup in case something goes wrong. Check the FAQ for help too.
Like always: Flash on your own risk. I'm not responsible for any damaga to your device
Flash the Magisk Module either in Magisk Manager or TWRP
Install Edge Sense Plus
Enjoy.
Downloads
Now also available via the MagiskManager Repo:
I recommend to install and update the Magisk Module directly via the MagiskManager repository directly in the MagiskManager app.
All releases will be also available on the GitHub repository
Edge Sense Plus:
Ok lol I am blind, thanks for app!
This looks great and more powerful than other options to intercept the squeeze gesture. Thanks for taking the time to port it!
Would it be possible to provide a module download with an Md5? I downloaded and flashed the module, wound up in a bootloop and had to restore a backup. I'd like to try this, but really want to be careful. Thanks
FAQ
Q: Will it also work on the Pixel2 XL?
A: No, it will bootloop your device. There is a separate thread on the Pixel2 XL forum.
Q: My device bootloops after flashing the magisk module.
A: Ensure you are on the latest Pixel2 OTA. To get out of the bootloop, go to the magisk thread and install the magisk uninstaller and then reinstall magisk again.
Q: The magisk module zip is greyed out when I try to install it.
A: I have no explanation why it happens for some. Install a FileManager like SolidExplorer or FX File Explorer, then Select that File Browser in the System File Explorer to select the path
Thanks. Yeah Pixel 2 on the latest January update with TWRP and Magisk 15.2.
Yep it was a bad download. Thanks for the Md5. I'm all set now :good:

Aware of that. Will look into this today. Does not happen on my U11... so debugging will take a bit longer.
Are there any plans to distribute the app through the Play Store? And is it normal for the app to constantly ask me to upgrade to premium? By constantly, I literally mean constantly. It seems to be tied to scrolling down the settings page, and it pops up 2-3 times before I reach the bottom.
Also, will squeezing still silence an incoming call? Are there any settings that might prevent the squeeze from silencing an incoming call?

Currently the app is just visibible for HTC U Devices.
Im afraid of bad ratings from pixel users, since it does just work with root. On the U11 it works without.
Will try improve the scrolling issue.
I just override the google assistant action. So the other native squeeze actions should still work.

Much appreciated (-:
I've noticed that pocket detection makes active edge misbehave. I don't know if this is a known issue, but I thought I'd share my experience.
The other thing I thought was an issue was with setting a shortcut to a Tasker task. For anyone who may not understand how it works, you have to open Tasker and choose "exit" from the menu at the top right of the app before you can set the task shortcut in Edge Sense Plus.

Playstore compatibility for Pixel2/XL

★★★Hey all! I'll start by assuming anyone reading this post is using a P20 Pro, on stock ROM, already familiar with Tasker AND rooted. If you have a P20 Pro and you're rooted, but have no experience with Tasker, I may still be able to lend some experience. But if you are not using a P20 Pro, or you are not already rooted, even if you're down with Tasker you'll have to figure out the first two somewhere else then come back here.★★★
Okay then. I love this phone. I mean [email protected]#king love it. My previous 2 phones were the unrootable Canadian variant LG G5 and the fragile as glass Sony Z2. Needless to say it's been a while since I've enjoyed all the splendors that come with a rooted phone and had a lot of catching up to do. You may have seen me recently poking around elsewhere asking questions like a noob as lots has changed since Chainfire dominated the su scene lol. Magisk is absolutely amazing once figured out, and as always I've been forever grateful to the helpful community here at XDA and wishing I had more to give back. So here's a small offering, however useful it may be to any of you. It's a simple app, built in Tasker, that allows to restart the system ui, perform a software reboot (fast reboot), full hardware reboot, shutdown, enable/disable ADB, enable/disable WIFI scanning even when off, and enable/disable the high volume headphone warning. I even included light and dark themes! Please keep in mind this was built in Tasker App Factory and I am not a programmer, so while I may be able to take requests to add more switches for hidden features I have no designs on improving the interface. I am also sharing the Tasker files for the task and scene I built for anyone ambitious enough that may want to modify them for themselves. You MUST be rooted for any of this app/task to work, but you do not need to install any additional plugins. All the commands are native in Tasker thanks to recent updates. Without further ado, may I present to you a very simple P20 Pro power/hidden features menu:
{

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
The downloads are below. If you install the APK you don't need the Tasker files and vice versa. One or the other. I've also included my Tasker task for closing all recent apps with one touch. Again it requires no outside plugins, only root and the latest version of Tasker. I'm going to reserve the first few posts, I've got other Tasker profiles that are peculiar to this phone others may find useful such as Smart Unlock at home. I'll post that soon and maybe a few others. If anyone has useful Tasker tricks for the P20 they'd like to share please do so! I'll move the best ones up here to the first post. (if anyone actually reads this hahaha....)
Please uninstall any old versions before installing the update.
[UPDATE: App and Tasker files have been updated with options to reboot into bootloader or whichever recovery you currently have installed.]
[UPDATE 2: Improved the UI and cleaned up the routines, runs smoother and more reliable]
[UPDATE 3: Fixed broken reboot command, please install latest version from below]
[UPDATE 4: MAJOR UPDATE: Overhauled the UI, cleaned up more commands, added Model, Build Version and Uptime to main screen]
Smart Unlock via Tasker ★No Root★
As you've probably noticed, Smart Unlock is severely limited to only bluetooth pairings on the P20. I miss having the option to keep my phone unlocked when my WiFi is near so here it is, re-created in Tasker. How is this different from any other Tasker based Smart Unlock tutorials? It's not, but our P20 keeps track of time in milliseconds rather than seconds, so if you try entering 7200 for a 6 hour unlock your screen will still lock in less than 10 seconds. I went mad for a week trying to figure out why it wasn't working before I noticed the stock values had an extra three digits behind them. So for a 6 hour unlock, for instance, you would need to enter 7200000 not 7200. The files included below will default to instant locking when Smart Unlock is disabled or 12 hour unlocking when enabled. You can easily change this by changing the values in the appropriate task.
To make this work there are 3 profiles and 4 tasks to install. The first profile is simply a switch to determine if you are home or not. I use a separate profile for this as I also have other profiles that trigger when %HOME is set and it makes more sense to only have one profile active at a time than several lagging on system resources. There is a loitering time of 60 seconds in both the enter and exit tasks to ensure if you are on the edge of your connection the other profiles won't trigger erratically. Once the profile is imported you will have to replace 'Your WiFi goes here' in the WiFi field with your SSID(s). The next two profiles simply monitor the %HOME value for change and react accordingly.
The four task profiles are straight forward. Lock the phone instantly, lock in 12 hours, Smart Unlock on (with notification) and Smart Unlock off. You will need all 4 installed initially, though it is possible to migrate the lock commands into the Smart Unlock tasks if you wish. I keep them separate for simplicity in changing the times or to link them to other tasks.
To install simply import ALL of the files below into Tasker, replace the placeholder with YOUR WiFi, and enable the profiles. Use the Power Menu app from above to activate wifi scanning when turned off or the At Home profile will not work when your wifi is off. Alternatively you can enable 'toggle wifi' in the profile context but I've found that to interfere with downloads when using data connection. In Tasker preferences set the following:
- make sure to check the box for 'Run in Foreground'
- 'Use Reliable Alarms' should read 'when off'
- set 'Wifi Scan Seconds' to 90 or less (lower values eat more battery)
- and lastly set 'All Check Seconds' to 180 or less
I've found values above those numbers will result in slow Wifi polling and your phone may not lock for a long time when you leave home. With these preferences I find my phone usually locks within 3 minutes of leaving 'home' area.
That's it, enjoy wifi context based Smart Unlock on your new P20 Pro.
[UPDATE: I've consolidated all tasks into a single project file. Install this, set your wifi and it's ready to go]
More Tasker fun
Flick for Smart Remote
A very simple profile linked to the %HOME variable used in Smart Unlock. I use the remote function on this phone while I'm at home A LOT. This makes it convenient and fun. Whenever you're at home, the display is on and in portrait orientation simply flick your wrist in a crack the whip motion and you'll instantly switch to Smart Remote. The addition of the extra variables keeps this from triggering when you don't want it to, ie: not at home, it's in your pocket, or even if you drop it you won't lose your foreground screen unintentionally. If you want to use it differently simply switch the variables to your liking. I personally don't use Smart Remote, Anymote Smart Remote from the Play store has many more features and works fine with the P20 we just aren't a supported device. Also here's a link to the whip sound referenced in the task:
https://www.zedge.net/ringtone/99dd...tm_campaign=sharing#ZEDGE #notification_sound
Turn your P20 into a gaming console without switching your default launcher
Needed apps: GameBox Launcher, Ultimate Rotation Control (or any other rotation app that has a Tasker plugin), QuickTask, TouchTask
This is a bit of a hack that can really be done on any phone but works AMAZINGLY well on the P20. GameBox Launcher default is portrait orientation for the UI which annoys me, especially when I have my phone anchored in my gaming controller. This task will force sensor landscape using root, then load GameBox. You lose a bit of functionality in the apps menu, but the gaming menu turns into a proper banner style game launcher with gamepad navigation controls. It takes a few minutes to set up but makes my P20 feel as close to a handheld console as it gets. QuickTask is used to create a custom toggle in the Quick Settings menu, although the native Tasker toggle could be used...it just isn't as pretty. The toggle allows to switch between game mode and normal launcher mode. You could also place shortcuts for the launch and exit tasks on your home screen, same effect. Now why do I call this Game Mode instead of just a launcher hack?.....
The home button override profile will intercept home button presses, kill your home launcher (default in the profile is Nova Launcher) using root, and relaunch a fresh copy of GameBox Launcher as long as you are in Game Mode. It's essentially impossible to access your home launcher the normal way so keep that Exit Game Mode task or toggle handy, and this setting theoretically could survive a reboot so ALWAYS make sure to use the proper exit task. With the override profile enabled GameBox becomes your 'default' launcher without having to actually change your default, making it super simple to switch between games on the fly. When you're done activate the exit task; rotation will be restored to auto, GameBox is killed with root and your home launcher (again, the default in the task is Nova) is launched.
To Use:
- install all of the necessary apps and grant permissions
- import all of the 'Game Mode' profiles and tasks into Tasker.
- in QuickTask create a new tile called 'gamemode' and choose gamepad as the icon. Set this new tile somewhere accessible in your Quick Settings menu.
- create Tasker widgets linked to the launch and exit tasks on your home page.
If everything imported properly the new tile will become your Game Mode toggle and will enable/disable along with Game Mode. The links on the home screen are simply for secondary access. A screenshot of my P20 in 'Game Mode' is below:

Try this version, I renamed the apk so it may have messed with the signature. If this doesn't work you'll have to try the Tasker files until I can rebuild the app. Cheers!

I havent found the need to use it. Would be good if it actually offer to reboot into : recovery, bootloader, erecovery, etcetera.
System UI restart is useful though. Sometimes there's glitch with app UI and i dont want to do full reboot, and system UI restart is the option

I didn't bother with recovery, bootloader etc as I use ADB for those. The intention for this was just a simple power off/reboot app without clutter or advertising but I'll consider adding those options soon as they may be useful. The Wifi scanning toggle should be particularly useful to anyone using Tasker with 'WiFi near' contexts. I couldn't find that switch anywhere in the Settings UI and with WiFi turned off the context won't trigger. So maybe that'll be helpful at some point lol? Also the 'high volume' headphone warning is annoying as hell, tap this once after each reboot and you'll see it no more.

Update: Power Menu V3
Major update! V3 is ready for daily use. I've cleaned up the godawful UI and added some information tidbits that may be useful to anyone experimenting with updates or rebranding and wants to easily check their current version. System uptime is also posted front and center so you know if it's time for a reboot. I'm not sure if this app needs anything else but if you'd like to see a new switch or button added please request in the thread and I'll give it consideration. Thanks to everyone who has dl'd and given feedback.

Is there any way to use tasker to disable mobile data? It used to work just fine on my old nexus 6p,but with my p20 pro when I try using the mobile data action, it shows it worked in tasker with the green dot, but mobile data status did not change.
