[Q] screen unresponsiveness? and calendar - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys
i just got my nexus s yesterday and i've been experiencing some touch screen responsiveness issues.
it only happens during the homescreen. whenever i'm swiping through homescreens, it would not respond to the touch at all, except sometimes when pressed slowly with lots of force. everything else (unlocking device, app drawer, texting, everything) responded well EXCEPT swiping through homescreens...
a simple reboot fixed this problem and i havn't seen it happen yet so far, but has anyone else had something like this happen to them?
-----------------------------
also, when i'm trying to put a new event into the calendar, i get the message:
"You have no calendar"
any way to fix this issue?
Thanks,
----------------------------
edit: sorry for the long post, but is there any way to get back the old market? the new one is quite laggy on my phone.. (it automatically updated itself the second time i opened market)

Phone on keyboard slide

I don't know if I just never noticed this since I just got the phone on Friday but every time I slide out the keyboard, it'll show the landscape home screen for a few seconds and then open up the phone and I have to hit home to get back. Same when I slide the keyboard back in. I have changed a couple things like the clock, icons, slider, landscape icons, and so that the portrait left softkey opens contacts instead of phone. Any ideas? Thanks!
im actually having the same problem, everytime i open up the phone say to respond to a text message or something the phone screen (dialer screen) pops up and i have to close it and then go back to my text message inbox.
anyone know whats causing this?
This is a known problem that HTC needs to do something about. Some of the custom ROM's tend to do this with less frequency.
Same problem here! Have had the phone for around 3 weeks, just started happening yesterday.
Any solutions?
Thread isn't getting much attention.
I flashed NATF's latest Raphael RoOM (4.1) around a week ago, and I haven't had the problem again.

I believe theres a reg edit for this, but you must re enable it after a while.
Hi i had thesame problem, is something to do with animated taskbar icons, uninstal them and see whats hapened

Screen would not unlock

Hi,
I've only had my Nexus S for a couple of days and loving it so far, but this morning I had a problem. Here's how it happened:
When my alarm clock went off I hit the snooze button and turned the screen off, went back to sleep. 10 minutes later the alarm went off again later as expected and so I hit snooze again and turned the screen off like before. 5 minutes later I decided to get up as otherwise I would have been late for work, so I go to my phone to disable the alarm as otherwise it would be buzzing when I'm in the shower and the missus would get annoyed. The problem however was that I couldn't unlock the screen! I was jabbing at the power button repeatedly to get it to come on but no response at all. I ending up removing the battery. I should also add that my phone was plugged in a the time as I'd left it charging over night.
Has this ever happened to anyone else? I will try and replicate the problem. Here's how my phone is at the moment:
All my homescreens are bare apart from the main one where I have a 4 shortcuts, google search bar and the analogue clock widget. Apps I currently have installed are: Ebay official, facebook official, Twitter official, 3G watchdog, Fruit Ninja, Angy Birds, Live Holdem, Google maps, Gmail Unread Count, Movies, TV Guide.
I'm hoping that this problem was just a one-off.
Thanks
sort of same here. i bought it last thursday and today i can't use the lower part of the screen, right where the phone, menu and browser icons are. Space bar won't work when writing text, etc.
If anyone knows how to fix, pls share
The device is stock 2.3.3, i9023XXKB1, didn't root.

I have been using Nexus S for 4 months now, and I do have random reboots once in a while. Did the phone well work after the reboot?

I never had responsive problem on my phone other than the phone just freezing... Maybe theres something wrong, go ask Samsung.
unfortunately i also have such a problem now! since this morning my screen does not respond on touch correctly...it is very hard to unlock the screen (have to do it very slowly, bar is jumping like crazy) and after that it seems like the screen is reacting even on any reflection, suddenly the status bar is coming down, if i am in a menu, it always scrolls down and up...damned, that sux!
any ideas what i could do? or is this a case for samsung support?
ps: i did not flash anything in the last days, i even restored my nandbackup, that i made after 2.3.4-update (no custom kernel, no nothing), but that did not change anything...

Problems in lockscreens when first booting N5 in the morning

Hello everyone,
I have my Nexus 5 since january. It`s been a really great experience.
I love to customize my N5. I am always changing icons, wallpapers and lockscreen looks.
For that, I keep looking for new apps in foruns like this, or Mycolorscreen, or Deviantart and etc.
One of this days, I found these lockscreen apps:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lockscreen.galaxy
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lockscreen.optimus
and
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lockscreen.sony
All of them are from the same developer. They are really beautiful, well designed and I was very happy with the look and experience that those apps gave me.
But soon I notice something strange when I first boot my phone in the morning: the N5 kept the home screen lit... It did not matter how many times I pushed the main button, trying to turn the scrren off and get the lockscreen working. I also noticed that the apps that usually open in the first boot were not getting started. Their notifications were not showing up. The screen kept ligthen up in my homescreen...
I was suspecting that these apps that were working properly before the installation of the three lockscreen apps above, were "fighting" with the new apps (the lockscreen apps). As the lcokscreen apps are from the same developer, I figured that they were the problem. So I unsitalled them. The apps that have always been working fine before the lockscreen apps have been installed are:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rageconsulting.android.lightflow
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.rgruet.android.g3watchdog
and
http://www.amazon.com.br/MacroPinch-Bateria-Pro/dp/B0085YOD1A/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1399848399&sr=8-3&keywords=bateria
I have been using the stock lockscreen since then...
Today (May 11th), I found the following lockscreen app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.qiigame.flocker.global
and decided to give it a try. And I loved it. It is a very beautiful lockscreen.
But after trying it for some time, learning how to use it... I reeboted my N5...
Unfortunally, the issue I (tried to) describe above happened again. After reeboting, the screen got lightened all the time. I push the main button and the scrren did not turn off. 3G watchdog, Battery and Lighfolw don`t show the notifications of starting up.
So, I am back in Nexus 5 sotck lockscreen!
I would love to use these lockscreen apps. But I don`t know what is going on. Can someone pelas help me???
I am sorry if this thread is confused. It is not easy to try to explain it in english. lol
I think this is just a case of buggy apps. I read through reviews for these apps from nexus 5 users, others are experiencing the same problems. The author of the last lock screen app you are using said to try going into the apps setting and choose "home button settings" and follow the three steps there, whatever those are, to solve your problem.

[Q] Slow Home Behavior

Hello everyone!
Let me start off by saying that i'm actually using an unrooted, officially update nexus 5, updated to the latest 5.0.1
I have no problem whatsoever, battery really seem to have improved, but lately i've been getting a strange behavior
After a period of use (it goes from a couple of days to a whole week) the phone oddly slows down when i press the middle button, to return back to the homescreen.
For example, if I'm using the facebook app, and watch a couple of videos along with opening a few external links, when i press the home button, the whole home "loads" from start. I mean, i literally see nothing for a second, then it slowly loads widgets and icons. After it's been loaded, everything works flawlessly again, but if i open facebook again, use it for a while and press the home screen, it loads again.
Mind that i have no custom drawer (i tried Themer, it gives me the same error, it says "loading homescreen" when the problem appears) but the problem is still there with the stock homescreen. I tried force-closing the apps i used, thinking about a memory issue, but to no avail. I have to turn off and turn on the device, and everything works wonders again.
Is there any app that could help me with this issue? I'd like to understand why it's doing this and which app is slowing down my phone.

I am not Sure whether this is 100% sure, But have heard that there is a memory leak issue in lollipop. Which might be the reason of ur problem. And the oly way get enough memory is to restart. But again, I am not Sure whether the above information is correct though.

I've heard that too, but it's strange that it has appeared only now. I haven't had this kind of issue ever since i updated it.
The FB app is just real buggy. My personal theory is whatever that app does exposes the Lollipop memory leak.

Yep i know about that, the FB app is just horrible script-wise. Nevertheless, i've never had THIS problem. And even if i forceclose it, it doesn't solve the problem anyway.

Strange moto G3 touchscreen response problem

Hi all, I did a search with no luck, so hopefully this is a valid question!
I have a weird problem with my moto G3 2015 and was hoping you guys wouldn't mind reading about and possibly offering some kind of advice if it's not too much trouble.
Every so often, I'd say at least once a day, the screen becomes unusable until I press the power button a couple of times (to turn the screen off and on again). Even when I do this quick fix, the problem comes back very shortly afterwards. It only goes away after 10 minutes or so, or if I get annoyed and put my phone away. I thought this was a hardware issue but don't believe that now due to the following:
1. It is a different problem depending on the app I am using. In facebook, scrolling is no longer smooth, and doesn't continue scrolling if I flick down the feed. It only scrolls down while my finger is actually on the screen. I am also unable to actually 'click' on anything, only scroll. In Brave (my browser) it acts as if I've just double tapped the screen, as in if I move my finger down it zooms in, and if up then it zooms out. In snapchat when watching a friend's story it acts as if I've held down on the screen in order to forward their snap to somebody else, and then it doesn't respond at all to any touch.
2. The 3 buttons at the bottom are always functional no matter what
3. If the problem begins when I'm in an app, if I go to my home screen, I am able to navigate my home screen and app drawer with no problems. It's as if the problem is contained within the apps.
This started a few months ago while I was running the copy of android that the phone came with. I put on lineage OS (lineage-14.1-20170629-nightly-osprey-signed) and pico gapps (open_gapps-arm-7.1-pico-20170629). This seemed to fix the problem for a while but then it started again a week or so in.
The fact that the problem is only happening while I am in the apps, and disappears when I exit out of them makes me think it can't be a hardware issue? I am also no expert with phones or android, but am somewhat experienced in rooting and playing with settings etc. (I'm not sure if it happens in other apps I'm afraid, I can test if need be next time it happens).
Thanks so much for any help, and please let me know if there is any more info I can give you!
P.s. The new ROM is much better than the old one.! The battery definitely drains faster though, but that's a whole other problem

That is actually typical behavior on older devices using as many social media apps as you're using. Especially Facebook and Messenger if you're also using it.
Have you tried booting to recovery and wiping cache when this happens?

Thanks for replying!
When I flashed lineage OS I believe I wiped the cache. I will do it again though to see if it helps.

Yeah, you wipe cache when you flashed, or at least you should have.

Hi there
If the issue was software related, a change of rom should have solved it.
If the issue is kernel related, all users must face the same issue...but that is still not the case.
So This might be an issue with the screen being old. When the power consumption fluctuates, lcd screens can misbehave.
