How to install the Android Market on the Zen Touch 2 - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Installing the android market on the Zen Touch 2
All files needed are included in the zip that can be downloaded from the attachment.
Just unzip it to your Zen's SD card.
I got this method to work after messing around with my Zen for most of the night. The steps are what I think made the whole thing work out, but I may have done something else that caused this to work. If you can't get this to work PLEASE post a reply and I will post the whole process that I went through.
1. Install "z4root.1.3.0.apk".
2. Open Z4root and click permanent root, it will take a bit to complete, then it will restart your Zen.
3. Now install "Root Explorer 2.16.apk".
4. Copy the "com.android.vending-1.apk" to your SD card.
5. In Root Explorer the file "com.android.vending-1.apk" and long press it, select copy then navigate to the root directory by pressing the back button until you see a single "/" as the directory at the top under the notifications bar. Then navigate to /system/app, then at the top there should be a button that says "Mount R/W", press it and it should now say Mount R/O, now tap paste at the bottom.
6. Click on the "com.android.vending-1.apk" and tap install. Once it is installed DO NOT OPEN/RUN IT!
7. Restart your Zen and then wait for everything to load up.
8. There should now be an icon for the market in the app drawer. Open it and you should be prompted to add your Google account, type in your Gmail address and password, YouTube or any other Google service you have an account for.
9. You now should have the working android market on you zen touch 2!

tried it
hi Ryan, thanks for the post. Unfortuneatly it didn t work for me . The android market was installed, but when I try to start it, the app asks me if i want to add an account to the device. When i tap "yes" the program just closes. When i tap "no" the same thing happens...any idea what i could do??
Malte

Try This
Hi Malte
Try going to Settings > accounts & sync Settings, then try and add your google account. Then restart your Zen. If that doesn't work try the steps that were added as reply's in this thread I started on this forum: anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?p=577788#post577788 . Reply back here if this doesn't work.
Ryan

hi,
thanks for your job!
but, I have zen touch 2 with android 2.2.1
the exploit don't work (no error, rebbot ok, but no root in root explorer) and unable to copy com.android.vending-1.apk in /system/app/
And, in my surprise, I'm not possible to connect with simple "adb shell'
To usb disk, ok, but not adb! Is normal?
Sorry for my english.
Remi.

HELP PLEASE!!!! Need a Update.zip file
Hi, I bought a Zen Touch 2 and try to get android market on it, now my device is stock on initial configuration process, I tought I can fix it with an Update.zip file, can some body help me please?

A little light at the end of a dark tunnel
Hope this is the right place to post this. Today is february 21, 2013 as of 11:00 pm est time today, I have market working on a rooted creative zen touch 2, the non gps edition.
Note, I have firmware 2.2.1
What I did:
1) Seeing as how I managed to install market before, but it crashed, I first made sure that all instances of market were uninstalled
2) Backed up all apps with titanium or your favorite backup program
3) Downloaded GoogleServicesFramework.apk (see attatched)
4) copy the googleservicesframework.apk to /system/app let it install
5) Did a factory reset of the zen touch 2 with out wipping the cache
6) restored my backed up apps and verrified that the google services was installed, and I also setup the google account by going into settings- accounts and sync and tapped add account.
7) go into applications under settings, and tap unknown sources
8) once that was done, I nstalled
9) After making sure the com.android.vending-1.apk was in the /system/app directory, I installed it and reboot the touch
10)I downloaded google play version 3.9.17 (see attatched)
11) rebooted the touch, and prayed to the android gods, and launched it. No errorr, no crash, I even managed to install go launcher ex
If you follow this along with the one above, there is no reason why you can't have the android market on a creative zen touch 2 android device. Hope this helps.

BlueStacks android on windows out now !!

Alpha out today

You can install any apk from your phone to the bluestack windows client really cool but some can't (I guess for security reasons) anyone has been able to install a terminal successfully ?!
If someone is interested https://www.facebook.com/groups/185729648172160/
Thanks, I was going to post it too.
I am curious to try it and see how it works..
Been workin on this, GingerBreak failed (not surprising), seems to be no way to "reboot" bluestacks (tried QuickBoot, ButtonSavior, etc.). Anyone managed to find out where BS is mounting the android system, and if there's any way to decompile it?
Buttons are pretty easy to skin =)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18333866&postcount=5
It likely cant be rooted without rebuilding the image, which might mean a bluestacks specific rooter. The image the fs is stored on is a read only fs type
Market !
Hi, I was able to run market (and other G-apps) on Bluestack.
Root is not necessary.
Extract and install the files in this order (click on .apk file -> "open as" -> choose HD-ApkHandler.exe from bluestack installation dir. to install):
GoogleServicesFramework.apk
OneTimeInitializer.apk
SetupWizard.apk
Talk.apk
Vending.apk
Gmail.apk
Maps.apk
Using an home replacement setup your account and.. you are in!

Old market 1.82 vs 3.2 but nice anyway
Things that needs that emulator are:
1.ROOT!
2.A home button that leads you to your launcher's homescreen
3.Windowed mode
It will be perfect for all netbooks.
Been using ButtonSavior for the home button
I have gotten the market to install and open but when I select an app to install it, an error pops up "A server error has occurred. Retry or Cancel to return to the previous screen" Any Ideas?

I thought ButtonSavior required root? How are you using it?
Location?
I opened the maps app and it lists "my location" as Lewistown, PA
I'd like to know why. It can't go off wifi or GPS. How is it getting this info. It's not exactly correct, but it's an hour away, so maybe there is something to it. It could be hardcoded, is this where the dev is from? Anyone else have lewistown?

Not for the home button, power still not functioning at all
I can't seem to get any apps to install whether it's sync (which doesn't seem to work right) or right clicking on an .apk file.
This has a lot of potential, I just wish I could get it to work right. Maybe I'll reinstall it and try again.

it can, but need to edit regitry, so do at your own risk.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\BlueStacks\Guests\Android\FrameBuffer\0
inside change FullScreen to 0 (default is 2)
then change width and height(decimal or hex), then restart computer
Restart is not required, you can do on the fly resizing, just need to close the agent and restart
1. I installed ADW launcher EX
2. Got Market to work, thanks to following post

The apps can be downloaded. It gives error everytime, but press RETRY a couple of times and you will be able to install the app.
I downloaded the Dropbox and installed many apps from there.
The apps which are not supported in the above MARKET (its old version of market), failed to open (like Glow Hockey Pro failed but Air Hockey was
installed successfully).
Apparently this device is HTC MAGIC or HERO. The android vrsion running is 2.3.4 but all the wallpapers are from 1.5. It doesnt support Flash, and doesnt allow
advanced apps to run.
Also I tried to update MARKET but it failed to install.
3. I entered Android Initial Setup mode, finger pressed the Android logo but it didnt go further.

[Q] Installing .apk in CM7 on SGS2

Ok, so I have spent the last week searching for an answer to this problem, and I'm hoping someone will be able to help me out and others who may have similar problems.
With a rooted SGS2 and stable CM7 rom, I wanted to install the stock messaging app as I liked the "bubble" GUI better. Further, I found a copy of a camera app with higher bitrates/other improvements that I wanted to install as well. but every time I install them, I get "application not installed" with a check mark.
My method was:
Checked to install apps from unknown sources
Uninstalling old app (after backup)
Copying new apps to system/app to replace
Using root explorer in r/w to install them (didnt work)
So then tried:
Signing the apps using Signaptik/Zipsigner
Changing permissions to same as stock apps
It seems nothing that I try to install in system/app will install. Actually, any of these apps, no matter their location, will not install. Why is this? I'd really like the better camera app and my old mms.apk back!
Cheers!
------EDIT------
The camera.apk I want to install was built for SGS2, the mms.apk I wanted to install is stock from sgs2
Enable non-market apk installation.
Go to Settings – Applications – tick the “Unknown Sources” checkbox at the very top. Accept the warning which pops up by tapping on OK.
If you downloaded the file on PC, transfer it to phone.(sd card)
Open the file explorer (if you don’t have one, download any file manager from the android market) and browse to the location where you’d transferred the file.
Tap on the file to install it.
They won't install because they have dependency on a framework or application that does not exist in CM7.
Try installing them with ADB
adb install <apkname>
It will give you the full error message.

Instaling market and gapps on stock 5699

I've been using the new stock tnt 5699 for 3 days now, it seems to be far more stable and fast than previous versions, flash plays well on almost all the web pages I've tested, it only needs market and google applications to turn it into a really useful rom. So these are the modifications to "The Viewsonic G Tablet Super Thread (w/Market, Gmail, and Maps!)" to have it up and runnig:
1. Download and install z4root
2. Run z4root and choose "permanently root" to root your gtablet
3. Download and install rootexplorer
3. Run root explorer and Mount "/system" as R/w
4. Download and unzip gtablet ( http://forum.xda-developers.com attachment.php?attachmentid=432583&d=1288749538) into your sdcard
5. Copy the contents of G Tablet\permissions to System\etc\permissions
6. Copy the contents of G Tablet\lib to System\lib
7. Copy the contents o G Tablet\APP into your system\app folder
8. Install them in this order:
GoogleServicesFramework.apk
OneTimeInitializer.apk
Talk.apk
Vending.apk
Gmail.apk
Maps.apk
9. Make sure you remount "/system" as R/O when you're done!
10. Restart your G, Connect to Wifi
11. Open rootexplorer and Mount "/system" as R/W
12. In rootexplorer long press in "/system/build.prop" and choose "open in text editor"
13. Where it says "ro.product.device=harmony" change it to: "ro.product.device=olympus"
14. Press menu button and select save and exit.
15. Perform the following steps:
Go into Settings.
Go into Applications.
Select Manage Aplications (all).
Select Market.
Select Clear Cache.
Select Force Stop.
Hit back button once.
Select Services Framework.
Select Clear Data.
Select Force Stop.
Back to home screen.
16. Open market (you should get an error message)
17. Reboot gtab.
18. Let it sort things out on its own. Go into Market.
19. Enjoy Market.
The only thing not working is the google calendar
Hope this is useful
Thanks this is extremely helpful. What are the three copied folders Permission/Lib/App needed for?
Also, are you getting any force closes with any of the apps after installing the market?
Android Market without rooting?
Is it possible to install the Android Market without rooting? Or un-root after installing the Market?
The reason I ask is movie rentals from the Android Market. Movies won't play on rooted devices. Just wishing there were some way of getting movies rentals to work.

I haven't tried it on the Gtab, but I'd look at Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper (https://market.android.com/details?id=org.projectvoodoo.otarootkeeper). It allows you to unroot/root if you're already rooted. It was developed for the Kindle Fire to re-root after OTA updates, but it also works to backup and unroot for apps that don't like root. I've used it on a couple of non-Kindle devices and it works great.
I was successfully able to run this:
- with temporary root
- using free es file explorer
The changes I did were:
2) instead of Permanent Root, I chose Temporary root. I needed to enable USB debugging first, but temporary root worked.
3) Instead of root explorer I used ES file Explorer. The Viewsonic-installed 1.x version did not work. I downloaded a newer version 1.6.1 from estrongs.com
Also, it took a few tries for market to show up under "system applications" in tap&tap's settings screen. I didn't have an "applications (all)", it may have been a root explorer thing.
I'm waiting for Market to self update like help says it will. This old version did FC on me once.
You don't even need root to install the Market on stock!

Have u tried this on an unrooted gtab? If so are the steps the same without the need to rw
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Wait a sec, does system even need rw? Without root it cant be changed to rw.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
I have a question about step 3. How do you download root explorer when you don't yet have access to the Market?
[Edit] Never mind. I found an alternative method of getting gapps on to my Gtablet. It is an update file that automated the gapps install. Do a web search for "Gtablet Back to Stock w/ a few modifications" and you will find it. It is a February 22, 2012 entry of a blog entitled "Salvatore's Place"
I did the above and every thing works perfect except that I have the old market and its not updating. any help on that?

I wrote a program called OogleVox, which installs the Play Store on rooted devices. It is a little more comprehensive than these instructions and other than modifying the build.prop it sets everything up. Does anyone want to try it out? http://goo.im/devs/danifunker/OogleVox

[APP] Google Now APK/ZIP for ICS [ARMv7]

Requirements:
Follow the simple instructions here.
You must be on Ice Cream Sandwich.
You MUST be rooted
You must be on a deodexed ROM. If you aren't sure, ask your chef.
You should be running a custom recovery like ClockWorkMod Recovery (CWM) or Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP). I use CWM, so this guide is based on that.
Your device must be using ARMv6 or v7 CPU architecture. If you aren't sure what that is, check this thread.
You must have a file explorer that has root permissions. I use ES File Explorer, so this guide is based on that.
You need at least 60MB of system space for the full offline installation. (30MB for online only version) If you don't know how to check, simply download Titanium Backup from the market. It tells you right on the main screen.
ARMv7 INSTRUCTIONS:
Download whichever file you want and flash it in recovery.
File descriptions:
Online only zip is for those of you who need to save /system space. It removes the offline voice files, so that offline voice dictation does not work. You must always have some sort of data connection for this type of zip.
Offline/Online zip is for those with no /system space restrictions. It contains the full Google Now package with offline voice dictation.
APK only is for those who have already flashed a zip. You may simply push the new apk to /system/app (overwrite or remove the previous version), set permissions to rw-r-r (0644), and reboot to enjoy the latest version of Google Now. DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL THE APK BY ITSELF.
If you aren't sure which one to use, or if this is too much information or is otherwise overwhelming for you, just flash the M7 version - Offline/Online, since it's the latest. Be sure to scroll down a bit and read about it, though.
Before doing anything, you need to make sure you have at least 60MB of free space on your /system partition for Offline/Online files and 30MB of free /system space for Online Only files.
Flashable Zips:
M7 - mikeyxda's version 7. This version improves on M6 by tweaking notifications to be more accurate and frequent. This version may use more battery. If you are using a Sense ROM, see the troubleshooting below for a hack to improve Google Now performance and battery efficiency.
Online/Offline via Mediafire - 36.48MB /Hotfile mirror
Online Only via Mediafire - 14.06MB /Hotfile mirror
M7-Velvet.apk Only
M6 - Mikeyxda's version 6. This version has improved on the previous one by fixing the double take problem, typed searches are working, auto launch is fixed, as well as the following fixes from the previous version: Red mic with cards showing with no refresh needed, no FCs, offline dictation, and no stretched words. These zips all use zipalligned apks.
Offline/Online via Mediafire - 36.43MB /Hotfile mirror
Online only via Mediafire - 14.01MB /Hotfile mirror
M6-Velvet.apk Only
R3 - "Nearly there" version by ReekoTubbs. This version has the Red mic with cards showing with no refresh needed, no double take, no FCs, offline dictation, auto-launch, no blank screen, and no stretched words. These zips all use zipalligned apks.
Offline/Online via Mediafire - 36.48MB /Hotfile mirror
Online only via Mediafire - 14.07MB/Hotfile mirror
R3-Velvet.apk Only
How to:
Move the file you picked to the root of your SD card. Don't put it in any folder. This just makes it easier to find.
Reboot your device into recovery. See your device's specific instructions on how to do this if you are not sure. Google it for a faster answer.
In CWM, navigate to "Install zip from SD" and select that.
Next, highlight "Choose zip from SD card" and select it.
Scroll down to the Google Now zip you loaded onto your SD card, then select it.
Scroll down and select the option that says "Yes - Install Google Now....zip"
Once it has flashed, go back to the main CWM menu and select "Reboot system now".
Double Checking:
Some Recoveries do not do a good job of retaining the permissions being set by the zips. If you aren't using CWM or TWRP, then please follow these steps to ensure that everything is as it should be.
Let the ROM boot all the way, then fire up ES File Explorer (or whichever one you feel like using). We need to make sure a few permissions stuck (just in case).
If you haven't used ES File Explorer before, open it, then hit menu.
Tap settings, then scroll all the way down.
Check the box that says "Up to Root" (pic).
Then check the box that says "Root Explorer"
Allow root access when the dialogue box for Superuser pops up.
After that, check off "Mount file system", then back out of the menu. (pic)
Navigate to /system/usr/srec/ and find two folders named "config" and "en-US"
Tap and hold on the "config" folder icon to bring up the options menu, then scroll down to Properties.
Tap properties, then tap change and see if the check boxes match this picture.
If it matches, leave it alone and head back to your home screen to enjoy using Google Now! If it doesn't match, change it so it does.
Do the same thing for the "en-US" folder.
Go into the settings menu for Google Now and set it up for your Google account and various other settings.
Now What?
So, you flashed Google Now. You're wondering what you can do with it, right? Well, thankfully, Killer-B has a handy little guide to get you up to speed on all the cool stuff Google Now can do as well as how to do it!
Commands & Now Cards For Google Now!!! Now Video, and custom widget
At this point, I'd suggest looking through your contact list for people with unusual, or difficult to pronounce names. Go into their contact card, and add in a nickname for them of their phonetically spelled name. Google Now has trouble parsing these unusual names, and their isn't a way to make it learn. Spelling the names like they sound allows you to send texts and place calls via Google Now without any voice issues.
Open up the red mic screen and "Do a barrel roll."
Troubleshooting:
If you are having an issue with Google Now, please refer to the thread originally created by cajunflavoredbob here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30809177&postcount=1
The red mic screen won't display.
To fix this, press the normal mic within the Google Now app. While it is listening (after it beeps), press menu > refresh. Now you're at the red mic.
Google Now Force Closes.
Make sure you have enough space on your /system partition before installing this. You need at least 60MB free for the Offline versions and 30MB free for the Online versions.

Oh and just to explain, the old gmail allows stuff based on signature, so as this apk is resigned it will not be allowed. The new gmail marks it as dangerous and will create a notification for you to allow permission, or the patched one marks it as normal and allows it silently.

My phone gets worse battery life or uses more data.
Read this post by Racer Of All and follow the directions using apktool. This is for advanced users running a Sense ROM only.
Sports cards aren't showing up.
It won't add teams that aren't in season. American football is currently in preseason. Baseball, however, works perfectly fine.
I want Google Now in another language than US English.
From the Google Now home screen with the cards, tap Menu, then Settings. Tap Voice, then Language and select the language you want recognized. The text of Google Now in searches and regular cards should mirror that of your system language.
My Galaxy SIII just received the new update which blocks local search, and Google Now won't work properly.

All files are on the device with the correct permissions except because of the different search apk (GoogleQuickSearchBox_USA.apk) the method mentioned in the OP won't work until you delete the _USA part of the file and then reboot into recovery and reflash following the OP instructions.

Want to go back to stock?
If, for some reason, you want to remove Google Now and return to how you were before, flash the following zip. It removes all Google Now files, and returns the original Google Search app and voice files, as well as sets permissions for the Search app. Make sure to uninstall talkback and then reinstall it once you reboot to get voice search working again.

I would suggest making a Nandroid backup then try the zip and flash in CWM (clear cache and davlik - reboot will take longer the first time)
OR
Using Root Explorer
Navigate to System/app rename GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk to whatever you want to
Drag/Drop Velvet-theos0o-3.apk in System/app and rename it to GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk
Change permissions to rw-, r--, r-- and reboot (do NOT try and install the APK)
- it should definitely work then
When you restart - go to Manage Apps, find Google Search then clear data and cache (should clear up the network error)

When you restart - go to Manage Apps, find Google Search then clear data and cache (should clear up the network error)
Click to collapse
I have tried both of these techniques multiple times. Never works. I am currently running AOKP and InsitgatorX Kernel. Can anyone with this combo confirm they have it working?

I'll Nandroid my current setup and run an AOKP here in a bit...
EDIT: Installed Chimera vs Skyrocket_RC1 - used Root Explorer, and renamed GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk to GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk.bak
Copied Velvet-theos0o-3.apk and renamed it GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk then changed the permissions to rw-, r--, r-- and rebooted
Works fine on that AOKP ROM

Solution for setup wizard keeps stopping

For guys who are unable to proceed after the language selection when a new rom is flashed, Here is the solution. There is no use of going to settings<selecting Apps < searching for setup wizard app < Force stopping and giving permissions again. After lot of attempts successfully got a solution. but dont know how it might effect the daily usage.
Steps:
1. Reboot to TWRP
2. Click on "Mount"
3. Select "Data"(check mark the data option)
4.Click on Mount the selected storage (don't remember the option exactly)
5. Now go back and click on Advanced
6.Select file manager
7. Scroll down and search for System folder
8. Again scroll and search for priv-app folder
9. Now Search for Setup wizard folder.
10. After entering into the folder, u can see setup wizard apk. Simply delete that by pressing the icon at the bottom right corner and choosing on delete option.
11. You can see a promt asking to delete. Simply swipe it.
12. After go back, Make a Factory reset and reboot the device.
The only bad thing is, it doesnt ask for language selection or wifi or google account setup. It directly goes to the launcher. Not sure how this is going to effect the daily usage.
One thing I found is unable to expand notification drawer.Im new to 7.1(Resurrection remix). may be need to explore new options.
Note: if you got process force close error, click on wait and select the launcher.Thats it.
if this thread helped, dont forget to hit thanks.
P.S: Sorry for my simple and bad english
Edit 2: (The perfectly working one)
After selecting language, then long press the power button, go to settings and connect to wifi and then proceed to login to google. This doesnt make setup wizard close.
credits goes to @Di5cip1e .
The problem is also solved by updating to latest GAPPs. The ROM you were trying to set up was updated to 7.1.2 and the GAPPs you were using were old.
Nice thanks
