[Q][HowTo] The best way to backup your PersonalData - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
I'm still searching for a way to backup my Apps + Data to restore it after flashing - but I haven't found the best way yet
I tried Titanium but after restoring the Custom ROM got some real issues.
What I want to do:
- Backup my Apps
- Backup my Data (like Sms, Calls, etc - If there is a working way also the Preferences)
What I did (and caused me the errors/problems):
- In Titanium: go to batch -> Restore all Apps and Data
maybe I'm just to stupid to use it, but I didn't get it working
Anyone can help it ?

[Q] Titanium and ROM replacement

Ok, it is clear, as stated into General Q&A:
=========
Will i lose all my texts, apps, etc when i install a new rom?
Yes you will. You could make a titanium backup of everything though and restore it when your done flashing the roms so you can get everything back. Download titanium from the market.
=========
What I don't understand is this: almost all ROM requires wipe data, and this sounds to me settings/data are different among different ROM version. Am I wrong ?
Q1 - If I am not wrong, would a data/settings restore create the same issues like a ROM replacement w/o backup/restore ? At the end, it seems to me, there would not be any difference among backup+ROM replacement+restore and simply ROM replacement without backup&restore
Q2 - would it be better to backup and restore everything (system apps&data, user apps&data) or would it be better to be selective (i.e. only user apps&data) ? What do you generally backup and restore ?
Q3 - assuming a selective backup&restore is the best choice, I would like to know what backup in order to have it safe:
1) contacts' links
2) screens (home & others, in terms of links to applications spread across all the pages)
Awaiting any useful replies from you guys.
Thanks !
i always do a full app/data backup, then when the new rom is settled, do a full app/data + system resotre and then uninstall the apps i dont want.
this will also restore your "desktop" to what it looked like when you backed it up (if you came from the same launcher)
also restores all sms, mms, emails, recent calls etc. this way

[Q] Question regarding restoring data contents from recovery...

Hey guys, just a quick question regarding restoring User Apps data from recovery.
I find myself flashing new roms more and more often these days, and it's becoming a tedious and repetitive task to install my apps and setup everything manually.
I use Titanium Backup PRO to restore my apps, and for my text messages I use GO SMS PRO to restore them.
The problem is, if you e.g. try to flash from CM7 to CM9, or flash from your current rom to an entirely different rom (which may also require a different kernel to be flashed), then as far as I know you can't simply use Titanium Backup to restore your apps data/settings. You can only use it to restore the apps (simply just installing the .apk files), but you would have to manually configure the settings all over again. I'm sure this has happened to many people with regards to using Titanium Backup when restoring user app data/settings, where they experienced corrupted data or battery drain issues etc.
As for restoring text messages with GO SMS PRO, it works but it lags and takes a long time. It would often popup the force close error box, and I would have to always choose "WAIT" to make it continue running. It may seem it's lagging or not working but in the end it restores all my messages fine.
Anyway, it's annoying to do all this setup manually, so I was wondering if it's possible to simply recover user apps data AND settings from the recovery? As far as I know, you simply recover /data from the recovery? Will that cause any problems if you were to update from CM7 to CM9?

What is the best way to back up apps, data etc?

I want to flash a new ROM since my current one (CM11) doesn't allow me to use the internet. I don't want to have to lose everything AGAIN though.
Last time I used Titanium but when I restored it didn't include some of my apps (e.g. Swiftkey) and it made the soft-menu buttons disappear.
You can use Helium Backup for apps and data.
There is ZIPme and Nandroid backup via CWM Recovery or outside it.

Signal ( = TextSecure) full backup with images & attachments possible?

Hi,
I want to install a different ROM on my phone but don't want to lose all my Signal (formerly TextSecure) messages. The app only has an option to export an unencrypted text-only backup.
Is there any way I can backup everything using a third party app and restore it after installing a new ROM? I know about apps like Titanium Backup, but the question is will it work properly after restoring?
Hope someone who went through this can help me.

are there any differences between installation before backup and after restore ?

We are talking about stock fw B197 ( unrooted - locked BB )
backup was made with HUAWEI backup.
I tried this because i had made bad experiences with my Honor 7.
Well, it works, but....
most of my individual system settings were lost!
- access right of some (not all:silly of my app's was set to factory defaults
- data & backgrouddata access of some of my apps was set to default
- all frozen app’s are reactivated like in stock rom
- soundsettings were lost too
- my google and HUAWEi accound setings was lost
- some of the datas in internal sd/Android/data was deleted (some apps are saving into this area!)
- all W-Lan &BT settings are lost
all in all, i need 50 min. to fully restore my system!!! That’s bad!
so i’m thinking about rooting this device too, but unfortunately it is more complicated to get all security updates after doing that.
BTW: on a LG H850, you will get all settings back after restoring only the data partition. That’s comfortable!!!
Same at my MEDION Tablet. There you will be able to reboot into a special data recovery. You can only backup and restor the data partition. But this is enough to have a comfortable and safe backup possibility.
