Ok so my Galaxy S2 is COMPLETELY driving me insane today. I got an ADWLauncher, didnt like it, now i went back to my TWlauncher. Whenever i want to set my wallpaper, no matter if i want it on ONE screen, or stretched on ALL screens, i ALWAYS get the same result, the wallpaper is stretched on ALL screens. I searched the forums, someone said its probably the launcher causing this problem. Cant find the settings on how to turn that retarded feature off!!
My goal is to have: Single Picture for all screens (Picture doesnt move when i scroll my screens).
If i set it for the lock-screen, i get what i want, but not when i unlock the screen.
Thanks.

I doubt if the default TW launcher has the option to disable Wallpaper scrolling. If i'm right, your only option is to use a Launcher that does have the option. Simple really.
I am also going to mad with this retard launcher because of this. I CAN'T choice 1 wallpapers also.

I wish it was that easy. TW doesnt have the option, but when i select the wallpaper style, all screens or 1, it actually DID work. Didnt need no option. After i got ADW Launcher, it stopped working. Tried deleting the ADW and set TW as default, still doesnt work.
Just got GO Launcher, that one DOES have the option of wallpaper scroll. Does it work? Of course, not really, still zooms the picture!!!!!!!!! Paper doesnt move, but the picture is zoomed out like no tomorrow. I have a girl as my picture, all i see is her breasts, i wanna see the rest!!!!
The picture needs to 960x800. Make sure the important part of the picture is centred. Disable wallpaper scrolling, and now you have what you want no matter what homescreen you are on.
Easy.
Post the picture here so we can help...joke
Its annoying that you cant display the entire picture.
I usually give up and put on a live wallpaper!
I know it's not the ideal answer, but you can create a blank 960 x 800 image in an image editor (MS Paint will even work) and paste your image in the center of it. It may be a pain, but it will give you the result you're looking for.

Sorry, gonna have to bother you a bit more. I downloaded a picture, 960 by 800. Here is what happened, i will provide screens. 4 of them!
Scenario 1.
Before i press "Save" i see this.
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And the Result: EXACTLY whats expected right? Stretched out on all screens.
Scenario 2.
Before i press "Save" i see this.
And the result: ABSOLUTELY NOT WHAT I SAW IN PREVIEW!!!! =)
Disabling wallpaper scrolling, seems logical but i NEVER used that feature before. Whatever i saw on my preview, is exactly what i get on the background. Single screen background preview was the same as the background. Now, i dont know what happened, my preview for single screen and actual background dont match at all. You can see from the picture #4, on the preview i see the road, in the background, im seeing only the bumper. Am i making sense? If Im confusing you please ask, i really want to get this to work. Thanks.
Try using Superwall Lite. You can use any image without cropping & it will scroll accordingly (or not, if the image is the size of your screen). If you have a photo that you only want a portion of, crop it before setting it in Superwall.
Superwall is a live wallpaper so you must have a phone/rom that supports live wallpapers. It doesn't drain battery like most live wallpapers because it's merely displaying an image. It's worth a shot, if you don't like it then you haven't lost much.

In scenario 1 the picture isn't 960x800. You can see by the apect ratio that it's more like 1280x800 which means you have to choose a section of it to use.
In scenario 2 the picture looks to be the correct size but you're not selecting the whole picture. The guidelines need to be pulled out around the whole picture. Then you will have the entire picture over three screens, but with wallpaper scrolling turned off you would have just the centre 480 pixels showing on every screen.
Example:
That is the picture cropped correctly @ 960x800, with the car centred as well as can be acheived. The red box is the centre 480 pixels. (One screens width).
You can see that the car is wider than 480, so on your homescreen it will disappear off the edges onto the adjoining screens. The only way around that is if the car was narrower on the original picture. Imagine if it had been a person standing in the picture instead. They wouldn't be so wide so it would be easier to fit that person on one screen.
Try setting that picture with the red box as your wallpaper. Pull the guidelines around the whole image and set it. You'll see on your centre screen exactly what i marked out in red.
Edit: Superwall sounds like a good suggestion. Give it a go!
Hey. Yep the wallpaper, sorry that was my bad, its actually 800x480, the number is correct just not in this case. Need the 800pi to be vertical. Anyways, once again thanks a lot for the reply.
This time i got a TRUE 960x480. Results, same layout as before.
Ill start by saying, superwall doesnt work, read comments, many people have the same problem. I cant find it ANYWHERE.
I totally get what you are saying, please dont get mad =) Not saying you are mad. You can see that "1st scenario" i see the road on both preview and actual wallpaper, right? Right. 2nd scenario....preview, i see the road, actual wallpaper....no road, not even close.
I understand you example with the person, it was narrow the picture would fit, no sides would be chopped off. I get that part. Where i am having trouble is, the zooming in part. Why does my preview for "stretched out on all screens" matches, but the preview for "one for all screens" doesnt. Why can i see the road within the preview box, but not on the screen??
Please and thank you.

THIS SAME THINGS HAPPENS ON MY GALAXY ACE!!! I'm going insane! I don't even know what to do with it anymore. I'd set a live wallpaper but I don't want the battery to suffer. Aw man >:/
I have the same problem. The weird thing is if you set the single wallpaper for the lock screen it works as you see it on the preview screen (not stretched). The problem occurs only for the home wallpaper.
Download backgrounds from the market and check the option to resize wallpaper automatically. PROBLEM FIXED ! If you're gonna set a new background, open it with that app so the option can apply to it.
ADW doesn't have the option to use more than 1 picture. it use the same wallpaper for ALL the page.

40ish nice walls.
Why 960x800?
"The homescreen is 800 pixels in length and 480 pixels wide. The thing is, as you swipe between the 6 other panels, the wallpaper shifts a tad bit so you need to compensate for that. 960 pixels wide should be what all 7 panels are from end to end, not just the home panel."

When it prompted me to crop I just made the crop rectangle the size of the entire image. Then it just didn't crop anything off and looked fine.

I resized this picture i want as my wallpaper and even though I tried both sizes whenever I try to set it as wall paper it does a super enlarged zoomed in view as the wallpaper.
there's an app that will stretch the picture to go across all of the screens and use the full image.
does anyone know what this app is called?
I used to have it on my touch pro 2 with android.

What do you mean? Remember the wallpapers stretch over all 7 screens of Sense. So you won't see the whole image on your screen at once.
For some reason, no matter the resolution of the image I select for my wallpaper, it seems as if the tablet just zooms in on one part of the image and stretches it out. I have also tried selecting the largest section the gallery will allow, but it still just looks pixelated with a huge loss in background quality. Anyone have solutions?

Once its installed you should find it under live wallpapers. Its not a seperate app.

Thanks for the recommendation.
Is there another way to create wallpapers and set them so that they show up with better resolution?
I expect that there is a preferred size and file-type that android prefers. For example, the vegan-tab default wallpapers always look centered and clear, but when I set a .jpg file to be the wallpaper, I only see one top corner of the image.
Robeet had recommended 1024x1024 in the past, but that didn't work for me.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Thanks for the app, but unfortunately it seems to assume 7 horizontal screens. Sweeter Home uses 5 screens arranged in a '+' shape, so it looks fine on the main screen but the left and right screens don't display anything.
Thanks for the app post. I too have been struggling to figure out how to get high def wallpapers to work. I use launcher pro, 5 screen and have the settings configured to allow wallpaper scrolling. When I enable multi screen live walpaper, it still doesn't show the image as high of def as it should.
For example, I went to interfacelift and downloaded a 1024x600 nature image. When viewed in the browser (stock), it looks quite good. Very sharp and crisp. However, when I save this image to the sdcard, and set it up as the wallpaper in multi screen, it gets all blurry and looses definition. I've gone through all 3 settings of "crop/resize ratio" and none produce the same high def image as I see in the browser.
Is anyone else having similar issues? Anyone have any suggestions on what to try next? I guess I should switch back to the stock launcher just to see what it does.
The image would actually need to be wider than 1024px due to the wallpaper scrolling. If you used an image 1024x1024 it would need to be stretched out to something like 1600x1024 (only a guess) to account for the area of image to left and right of the middle home screen.
EDIT: I'm talking about the standard wallpaper not the live wallpaper app.
Wallpaper
I have not got my GPAD with me so I cannot check but I suggest you find the default wallpapers and see what size they are. And place your wallpeprs in that directory.
I beleive the crop tools in gallery etc are not the correct aspect ratio for this tablet.
similiar question.. i read wallpapers should have 1024x600.. then i made some of my own. NOW i cant apply them. Stupid androind always asks me to crop them, so they look horrible. Dont know how to apply a simple wallpaper. Anoying...
A few of us with Advent Vega's have had the same issue,
I did some testing and experimenting with Launcher Pro, and at least have a definitive understanding of what you need to get 1:1 pixel perfect wallpapers..
THIS IS ONLY FOR LAUNCHER PRO!!!! I think other launchers like ADW use different wallpaper algorithms..
*Firstly, no matter what, you need to use programs like "Wall Switch" available on the Market, or "Wallpaper Chooser" (I got this via app brain), these inject the wall papers without resampling and ruining the image.*
The native resolution of the wallpapers should be 1200 x 1024 (W x H), It depends on orientation as to which part of the image will be used, but basically using this overlay I produced (Attached), you can see which portion of the image is displayed in the middle launcher screen, when you scroll to the other screens, it will just shift the image left/right to the full extents of the image width, so in Portrait, you get a lot of scroll, in Landscape, not so much!
You can use image sizes larger then 1200x1024, as long as you keep the aspect ratio the same..
I believe for ADW, the wallpaper size is different, over on "vega.modaco.com" you can see a similar thread about ADW wallpapers, I added the LP info in there as some people where using LP over ADW.
after a little more googling...Multipicture Live Wallpaper turned out to be great... the only one, after tested quite a few, that works, and we even get an extra if we want to change wallpaper often...

We all know Android's wallpaper scrolls left/right, so wallpapers are not the size of the screen's resolution.

The first person who had extracted the default asus trees wallpaper image said that it was 2135x1408pixels, and I had no reason to doubt them. I think what most people aren't realising is that there's an 'overscrolling' part to the image, so when you get to the furthest left or right screen, it scrolls a bit more if you try to keep scrolling. That image posted in the tips thread wasn't exactly to size by the way. It was just a representation of how the panels are, and what screens you see them on. The top and bottom of the image are only shown if you bring up the apps or home menu screen respectively. I'll probably modify it a bit later.
You can use any image and it will stretch it just fine anyways.

A great workaround is the wallpaper slideshow live wallpaper. Just put your 1280x800 image in a folder and select the folder in the settings. Positions perfectly and doesn't scroll off.
here you go... when you go to set the cropping, put the box all the way to upper left and expand it to the bottom right all the way... that should set the image to the center home screen, with some black bars on pane A B D and E... these are inevitable unless if you can source an image that is extra wide... use the image i provided to create the rest of your wallpapers... let me know if you have any issues...
Man, it's really hard making a wallpaper that has a picture of people/things and make it show up correctly, even with the template.
With patterned pictures, it's easy but a picture of something it's hard. Easy to just make it centered and have blank top/bottom/left/right, but it's ugly heh.
I think the Transformer/Honeycomb treats the tablet when setting wallpapers as Portrait instead of Landscape. I'd prefer it Landscape like on phones, makes cropping wallpapers easier.
If you want a wallpaper that works good in both landscape and portrate try
1608 width x 1280 high works good for me
Has anybody been able to get a definative answer on the right resolution to use for custom wallpapers yet? I to have tried a few different ones and am having 0 luck

I created the template, which is just that a template so that people can tell what part of the image will be shown on the wall. The new crop tool in 3.1 helps resolve this issue, but its still nice to build them outside of Android for many reasons.
Never really thought about the over-scrolling. That maybe because I like static walls that do not move. Its much easier to design interesting layouts when they are static.
One think that YOU may be overlooking is the fact that using the crop tool to scale a larger image WILL NOT produce as clear an image as doing so im photoshop and making the image fit with the native resolution of the screen. Is it a large difference in quality? No, but for graphics nerds its noticeable.

These walls are not large enough to be used on these tablets. If you want a good spot for HD walls check out wallbase.net I get most of my walls from there.
On another not this is the EXACT reason why I want an alternative launcher like ADW or LP so that I can stop the background from scrolling.
I think a more important question is the aspect ratio. Can't find the sweet spot for both landscape and portrait wallpaper
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
You can't use 2135x1408pixels because when you go to the gallery to fetch the wallpaper you select the image and you are confronted by the 'selection block' (where you have to drag the area to select your wallaper) and 2135x1408pixels doesn't fit within the parameters eg: it's to wide.
If you want to use something that big use 2135x1700
after searching around and trial/error, i've found that 2048x1504 works fine for me...
hey guys. we just got a Xoom for my wife and are having a blast so far. i know we're coming in late in the game.
I did a lot of searching and have come up with all sorts of answers as to what is the proper resolution for the wallpaper.
I don't care too much about the perfect format to include all of my image in the wallpaper...what I care about is once I choose an image for the wallpaper, that it look sharp and detailed and not blurry or full of artifacts because honeycomb is stretching the image.
no matter what size image i've tried this far, 99% of the time what ends up actually shown as my wallpaper is a zoomed in portion of my image, and because of the stretching to fit the screen it doesn't look too good.
your input is appreciated. likewise if there is anywhere to just go and get Xoom-sized decent wallpapers I would appreciate a link too
thanks!
Same for me! Whatever resolution, big or small, it just wants me to crop the image, I tried searching for this for a while but I came up with no solution. Hopefully someone here knows.
EDIT: TRY Wallpaper Wizardrii
If you click on the little + icon at the top right of the screen, you see the entire wallpaper. It zooms the wallpaper and i dont know why it was implemented in such a demented way. Everything you put ends up looking low res and washed out. There is a guide that shows how to add a black bar to the bottom portion of a wallpaper so it fits the screen properly and looks sharp, but this doesnt work well in portrait.
Check it out here: http://www.xoomforums.com/forum/motorola-xoom-graphics/320-getting-wallpapers-fit-just-right.html

Left Image:
This is how the wallpaper SHOULD look like when using HTC LiveWallpaper Slideshow. As you can tell it is not magnified and zoomed in. This is how it looked like when using HTC LiveWallpaper Slideshow on Gingerbread.
Right Image:
The wallpaper is obviously magnified using HTC LiveWallpaper Slideshow. Every image is zoomed in and distorted affecting its quality.
Solution I have tried but failed:
People have told me it was due to the wrong ratio size of the wallpaper. This is NOT TRUE! Regardless of ratio of the wallpaper, it will never magnify the image because this had never happened in Gingerbread. Despite that, I have gone ahead and used wallpapers that were 540x960 and lower. No matter what ratio the wallpaper is, using HTC Livewallpaper Slideshow on ICS, it will always magnify the pictures.
Help:
I primarily use HTC Livewallpaper Slideshow to display pictures of my family and friends but I am unable to do so because of the magnification issue. Imagine a baby face instead of a tree in the screenshot and how it will look. Just very annoying looking through a Slideshow of smudged and disoriented faces.
I don't know much about porting, but is anyone able to just port the GB HTC LiveWallpaper Slideshow on to ICS directly? Or will that cause a problem? Please, can someone look in to it?
I'm also having this issue on my vivid. I am wondering too if there is a way to lengthen the time of each image? I want to select like a hundred pictures and have them change maybe once an hour instead of so frequently
Live Wallpaper Zooming & Distorting Problem Solved -- HTC Sensation z710e
Finally solved the problem of
Zoom & Distortion in Live Wallpapers Slideshow...
My dear fellas...:victory:
First of all, let me tell you that the problem is not only seen in ICS... I am using GB [coz I like sense 3.0 more than 3.6..] and still i faced the same problem today.. I think the problem arose after installing go locker and go launcher ex and all tht launcher crap... but still i'm not 100% sure i installed 2 more apps from play store such as evernote & any.do:crying:
Solution
after trying few app [like wallpaper wizardii], & trying to change diff settings, i finally came to conclusion tht there's some bug which changes the sense settings for the live wallpapers...
So i did one simple thing.. Hard Reset the phone to factory settings.. But it will only work if you perform hard reset through hardware & not by performing through settings>storage>factory reset..
Inshort, follow this simple trick... [worked for me in HTC Sensation z710e] :angel:
1. Backup all your imp data like sms, contacts, & imp files from from SD card.
2. Now, format your SD card first so it will erase all changed system settings from there
3. Perform a Hard Reset through Hardware : http://www.htc.com/help/au/howto_iframe.aspx?id=50618&type=1&p_id=399
Performing a factory reset using hardware buttons
Remove the battery, wait for a few seconds, then reinsert the battery.
Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER button.
Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the VOLUME DOWN button.
Press VOLUME DOWN to select FACTORY RESET, and then press the POWER button.
now you are good to go.. just perform this hard reset and restore all your pic folder in fresh formatted sd card...
now set live wallpaper slideshow from you pic folder... & hurraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah... it's not zoomed or distorted...
hope this will solve u'r problem.. :highfive:
I noe it's kinda long way to rectify this situation.. but when nothing comes in handy by shortcuts, you have to walk through long way...
happy androidin... bye guys..

This bug has appeared in every ICS ROM for the Sensation and I am actually surprise no one has reported it. This minute, subtle, annoying bug has driven me face first against a wall . Before I start explaining the problem here are some screenshots.

This is a Sensation forum, not vivid. Maybe someone in the vivid forum can help you

Hey, I'm really glad that you solve this but I don't think I have the time to complete the necessary steps. Thanks, for your contribution!
EDIT: Would performing step 3, resetting hardware ruin the device if you're rooted?
