[Q] cleared battery stats at the wrong time? - Samsung Infuse 4G

Long story short, I cleared my battery stats immediately after my phone turned off from dying. Upon the first boot after that, the percentage meter read 0% for about ten minutes. I rebooted to see if anything would change, and now my meter reads 1% and has stayed there for about 20 min. I unplugged it, and got the message about plugging your phone in, but my phone stayed on for a while. After dying and turning back on, I put it back on the charger, and it's still at 1%. Did I permanently mess up my phone/ battery? Or is there anyway to fix this?

Clearing battery stats does nothing on this, phone you are ok.

True. But a lot of people feel better doing it anyway.
As for the OP just leave your phone charging overnight, shutdown, take the battery out for a minute or two, re-insert battery, power phone on, do battery wipe again (for the heck of it). And your meter should be ok.

you can ask entropy he's the master. I wouldn't keep doing that though buddy let it charge don't keep messing with it. I've been here since day one,its best to not touch that.but do as you please ,and ask entropy for more info i'm sure he'll chime in to back me

Yeah, clearing battery stats does nothing on first-gen GalaxyS devices, including our interim device. Unknown for GS2.
Google MAX17040 for more info. Or search the Infuse forums for "gingerbread fuel gauge" for my debug thread.
Just let it charge a while. When you're at 0-1%, things can get a little wonky as far as power management and charging. Just let it sit a while and don't run it down that much again!

Battery jumps after reboot while charging

Today it happened again, my battery is around 30%, I let it charge, I decide to turn the phone off and on again. When I turn it on, it suddenly shows it's 68% charged. Again I feel, I have lost the ability to fully load my battery since it now thinks it's full while it should be full an hour of charging later.
Can anyone tell what the hell is going on?
This happened to me before, see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074093
its happen to me too..
battery around 10% and after reboot while charging its become 40%

Good to hear there are more people with this issue (don't take it personal).
This is a serious issue, I feel my battery life i becoming shorter and shorter.
Come on, anyone?

And it happened again, from 7% to 36 %. A real bug here.. why does nobody take this serious...
same here... hope there is a fix for this
If your phone is rooted, you can try to re-calibrate the battery by:
Charge the phone normally until it says Charged on the lock screen (you can turn on wi-fi in order to get more "fully" charge)
Turn off the phone, it will continue charging. Wait until the battery icon does not animate anymore (press Power button once to see the charging progress)
Turn on the phone, use adb shell or Root Explorer (or File Expert) and navigate to /data/system/
Delete the file named batterystats.bin
Reboot the phone
You can wipe battery stats in recovery, under the advance menu.

I've owned 3 Android devices and all 3 exhibited this behavior from Cupcake up to Gingerbread. Just ignore it because soon as you think it's stable it will revert back to doing it again. Just something I've learned to live with at this point.

If you're saying this is *really* serious then rooting is no big deal I guess

When my battery jumps I just keep using the phone until it dies and then recharge it. Crazy thing is, when it jumped from 12% to like 30%, my phone operated for a few hours while I texted and gamed on it so I don't really care that much. I have also yet to see any signs of deterioration.

Just one question, that puzzles me; why you don't want to root you phone?! Rooting is no biggie. And given the fact that this is a big prob for you, I suggest that you give it a try.

After calibrating my battery...

for the past 3 days, this is what it does after just a random reboot. This was from this morning. *A huge drop in battery life*.
Now granted, have charged it a few times just until i can get to a moment where I can charge it fully without unplugging it.
Just for my own clarification, do you see the huge drop in battery power after the sudden reboot? If so, I'm wondering if the battery isn't bad, telling the phone it doesn't have a charge, and the phone shuts down/reboots.
Was anything done to the phone prior to this problem (new ROM, new kernel, rooted, etc.) other than calibrating the battery? What were you using to calibrate?

My bad on the unclear post. Rushing, multitasking not working...lol. Yeah that's what i'm referring to. I edited the op.
Not sure why it does that. I'm using the battery calibrator from the market. I did install a new ROM a few days ago.

Lol, no worries, I was barely into my first cup of coffee. What ROM did you install? Any chance of using a different battery to see if it's the battery or possibly an issue with the phone ir the ROM?

LOL. I flashed the Octane rom by raver. I don't have another battery to test it out, but It's happened a couple times with different roms. Usually when I calibrate, on a full charge at 4.2v, I wipe the stats about 2x's in cwm, then calibrate with the app, then unplug then plug again to boost it back to 4.2v then calibrate again. All of this just to make sure it's calibrated. may be overkill.

I hear ya. I usually do that two or three times, too. All calibration does is, like you said, wipe the stats. The reboot is weird, though, as it's followed by that sudden drop in battery. Could be the battery is faulty. I wish I had more insight to help you.

Heyy after calibrating the battery how long does it usually take to see the effects of extra battery life?
I've seen varying answers on that ranging from 1 day to a few days. A lot of calibrate after flashing a new ROM, so that might add a bit of time as the system rebuilds caches and whatnot. I would think that you would only need to do the full calibration once before starting to see the effects.
I usually do the calibration then go through letting it (almost) fully die, then do a full recharge 2 or 3 times.

Thank you very much sir. So I should just put brightness to max, connect wifi, and turn on as many apps as i can before it almost dies, then turn back to normal and charge to 100?

I don't do anything different when I let it die. I just let it happen through normal use. I guess if you wanted to accelerate it, that would work.
I'm not an expert in battery, but it looks to me like you're putting alot of stress on your battery from the constant wiping, calibrating, and letting it die. I'm not sure but i heard that letting it die too often is a bad thing. Have you tried calibrating it and just use it like normal?
Well err. I just calibrated my battery but it's still going down quickly. I lose like 5% battery in less than 10 minutes

[Q] Odd battery issue

Hi everyone, and merry Christmas. I have an odd battery issue that has been driving me nuts! Every night when i turn my G2x off I lose between 15% and 45% if my battery life. I know this is not an issue with my battery because if i turn off my G2x and pull the battery out when i put the battery back in in the morning the won't even be one percent lost.
I have had this issue on multiple rooms and with multiple kernels. I have had this on EaglesBlood, cyanogen, weapon, and miui. I have had the stock cyanogen kernel, trinity kernel and faux123 kernel. The only time i haven't had this problem was back before i rooted my phone.
Any help you all could give would be much appreciated. Thanks all!

Note the battery charge percent, pull battery, put it back in, let sit overnight, turn on, note battery charge. If it discharged more than a percent or two, phone is probably faulty because it is drawing current when totally off.
This actually happens to me when I leave it off at work for a couple hours. Confuses me as well...

Phone must be drawing current while it's off, which I am pretty sure is happening to me as well. Damnit.

It is obvious that shutting off from the menu isn' t doing what it should, completely shutting off the phone. Backup your ROM then install a vanilla ROM without any additional apps, note battery percent then shutdown from menu and leave overnight then, in the morning boot it up and note if the battery drained. If it didn't, the problem is either an app or the kernel or rom you previously had installed.
So i temporarily went back to a stock ROM and it didn't seen to have the problem. Which sucks because i really don't want to go back to stock....

[FIX] For Battery Reporting and Draining Issues

This will likely fix any battery reporting problems that occur and should be done after installing a rom, or whenever you think it is needed. It will not actually make your battery life better. It may seem like it as before resetting it may have said 1% remaining when it was really only half dead
NOTE: you must be rooted, which if you are on this forum you almost definitely are
1. fully charge battery and leave plugged in. click calibrate in this app or manually delete the file yourself: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...yLDEsImNvbS5uZW1hLmJhdHRlcnljYWxpYnJhdGlvbiJd
2. Unplug and let the phone die with normal use
3. charge it fully without a break.
4. done. thank me if it helps
This resets the battery stats. It was noted awhile back from someone at Google that this doesn't help with the battery. I used to use this app all the time after a flash and then a couple of months back i stopped using it and really haven't noticed a difference. I'm not trying to ruin your moment of helpfulness but I really don't think it helps with the battery.

No problem. You are right. This will not help if your battery is actually draining. It only changes what android thinks your battery level is at. this can get screwed up after a flash, depending on many factors of the rom. It also is different with every device. What it helps with is when your stats are off. for example temple run takes 60% of your battery when you play for 5 minutes and you know it isn't running, or it drains fast to 1% then lasts another 6 hours. So if you are noticing poor battery life, make sure it is really bad, not just reported wrong. I will edit the OP to say this more clear.

This is what really fixes the issue. Clearing battery stats with an app or through cwm is redundant.
I don't recommend discharging all the way though
I thought fully charging the battery reset the stats. No?

I think partially, but I know for a fact this process works great and isn't that hard. It resets things better from my understanding because it totally wipes stats instead of just re-calibrating some things

[Q] Battery Percentage not updating after switching batteries?

I just recently acquired a second OEM battery, but when I replace it when it's fully charged into the phone after the first one is depleted (~10-15% left), the battery percentage doesn't increase and stays the same. Is there any software tweak that has to be done in order to get the phone to recognize the new battery?
I'm running MIUI.us build 2.4.6 with Faux's CM7 OC Kernel.
Thanks!
Have you tried killing/charging your new battery, or a battery stats wipe?

When you take the old battery out, try leaving it with no battery for about a minute, then put the new one in. I think it needs time to "forget" the old battery %.

My second battery isn't always fully charged, so I'd prefer not doing so if possible. Will definitely try leaving the battery out for longer, and report back on how it goes.
