help please i went to root my nexus s using super boot but i accidentally clicked wrong file and now its stuck at google boot screen. phone is running stock non rooted rom but it says lock state = UNLOCKED. so can i fix flashing using ODIN or FASTBOOT or something. i cant find anything
can you get into recovery? just flash a different rom through cwm
I hate people using the bricked word on nexus s. The damn thing is impossible to brick.
Look up flashing clockwork mod recovery, then flash a ROM and calm down dude You didn't brick it.

I actually did brick my phone..
phone is on a bootloop. In fastboot, my volume rocker doesn't work so i cant go into recovery. using ADB doesn't work because its undetectable by my computer.

What do you mean your volume rocker doesn't work? Does it not do anything if you press it down/up?
Sounds like a hardware issue to me with that.... the adb driver issue is common, but you can get into recovery from the bootloader

alright so i did actually fix it flashing via odin. downloaded a tar file then extracted and used the contents to flash via odin. all fixed

You might still slap a custom recovery such as clockwork mod on it and get control of it the next time you "brick" it.
There are planty of posts here how to do that.

So you didn't brick it. You broke your volume rocker buttons.
Fix that first (if its possible) and then once you can go into fastboot you can flash clockwork mod and then a ROM of your choice.

Well I have one that won't boot and the bootloader won't unlock (it just hangs). No way to flash anything to it. Tried Odin but with a locked bootloader after Odin sends the image to the phone, the phone verifies the image and then refuses to flash it. It is not a true brick, but is effectively a brick. Without being able to unlock the bootloader there is nothing that can be done to fix the phone.

Odin has nothing to do with a locked or unlocked bootloader. It is failing verification because you flashed the incorrect rom in the first place or you are using the incorrect Odin.
Have you tried flashing the correct stock rom via fastboot?

ON this phone it does. Instead of the download screen I am getting an unlock your bootloader screen. Odin is the correct version and the files are correct and they pass validation. Odin retrieves the pit from the phone and sends the file, then the phone says the image was verified as valid and then just sits there and does nothing. There are other people with the same problem who have the unlockable bootloader.
I've looked for a stock rom flashable with fastboot and cannot find one. I have tried the OTA packages and they fail because they need an android-info.txt and android-product.txt files. It seems roms that can be flashed via fastboot have a couple of extra files. If you know where one is I can download please link away.

hi everybody today i tried to update my HOX with this stock room "stock rooted 2.33.162.2 - odex/deodex and unsecure boot.img with init.d"
my android version is 4.0.4
HTC sense versio 4.0
Software Number 1.88.707.2
HTC SDK API level 4.11
HTC Extension Version 403_1_GA_4
then after i flashed the room the HTC wont boot (just shows me the white HTC screen) and i still have access to the recovery mode (CWM) i downloaded another room to tried to flash the phone (my nandroid bk shows me an MD5 error when i tried to restore) then i dont have any idea about how can i move the new zip file to the cellphone, i am very frustrated because i cant do it anything yet
please somebody help me
Thanks in advance for your help
If you get it working, the first order of business is to ditch CWM and switch to TWRP as it was not properly ported to our device. Are you sure you have a XL? The dual core version? Make sure you have the right ROM for the right device. I can't help you to transfer as you are using CWM and I'm not familiar with mounting. Word on the street is that there is a good chance it'll wipe your entire SDcard

thanks for your quickly response, well i have an AT&T HTC one X and yes its the dual core version, the phone comes with the CWM, unlocked and rooted, how can i install the TWRP ? because if i connect the phone to the computer doesnt shows me anything (i cane heard the tone when windows detect something new but its all) i tried to use odin but odin doesnt shows me anything and i tried with fastboot and adb but doesnt fount the device connected
from recovery do a factory reset and try again to boot it.... if u have a nandroid backup there is a setting to turn off md5 checking so it will restore......... as long as your using TWRP recovery (which you should be if not) you can mount usb storage and transer whatever you need......

you need to download twrp recovery, should be in the stickies, and flash it from hboot.
stick the recovery image in your adb/fastboot folder and rename it to twrp.img, boot phone into bootloader
from cmd prompt, fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
then on device select bootloader, then recovery.....once in twrp recovery you can mount usb and transfer..
no matter what just focus on getting twrp recovery flashed...your fixes will all come after that

any custom rom that you flash will be rooted already. As far as the red text goes, that is there to stay until the device gets s-off or you go back to completely stock/use a stock recovery.

sorry for the stupid question but what is s-off?
Security-off....see the phones which HTC does allow bootloader unlocking don't really get unlocked. Their unlocking really just partially unlocks and to have a HTC phone with a truly "unlocked" boitloader you have to have s off. Which gives the user full rights over the entire phone....so htcdev unlocked bootloaders aren't really even unlocked, they're simply less restricted.......

i rooted it already, the only thing ive changed is the font on the phone, i want to update to the 4.2.1. jelly bean ROM but i didnt know about unlocking the bootloader till i tried to unlock it today and nothing is working. Ive tried everything with odin, CASUAL, nothing. so i figured if i restore back to stock then root again incase something went wrong and it wont let me in odin. Keeps saying fail. I download root checker and it tells me i dont have proper root access. Even though i have superuser. I have no clue what the problem is now and im stuck. Please help ..
What is your current phone info under About Phone? How exactly does Odin fail? There's not much that can go wrong address long as you're inputting the correct files and are actually in download mode. What you could do is just:
1) Odin flash MrRobinson rooted TW 4.1 JB
2) use EZ Unlock v.1.2 to unlock
3) install your preferred custom recovery
4) flash whichever rom you want

Could you tell me if you have "su" in this directory : System/xbin/
Are you saying that your phone will not boot into download mode using the three finger combo? Or are you saying the file that you flash in Odin is failing? There's a little ambiguity here. If you can't boot into download mode BUT you do have su, try either:
1) without quotes, this adb command: "adb reboot download"
OR
2) Download Terminal Emulator, then type:
su
reboot download
Then try Odin flashing a stock image.

Ahh ok, clears it up for me. Well, Droidstyle's guide has the stock images for VRALG1 and VRBLK3 (I think). For you, it's probably easier to use VRALG1 stock image then root again.

What are you trying to do? If you're using Odin to flash anything, your phone needs to be in download mode: hold power button, volume down, and home. Odin will not recognize your phone otherwise.

If you are having the same problem as the op then why didn't you use the solution provided in this thread? Nevermind just seen your thread I will post there.
My phone has been soft bricked after trying to flash the latest dkp kernel. I was using philz touch recovery and I tried to flash dkp kernel 3-20 build, and I got an error during flashing saying that it couldn't decompress the ramdisk. So I tried to flash the older version of dkp that I was using, and it failed to flash! I have never had problems like this before. So now my phone will not boot to system or go back to recovery. I can only access download mode. I was using CM11 with the ML1 modem and dkp kernel before my phone got bricked. It really frustrates me that my phone just randomly decided to freak out and brick itself, because I've been doing the same thing forever and never had any problems flashing a kernel. Please tell me how I can fix my phone. Thank you.

Well when I pulled the battery and tried to reboot a samsung logo with an unlocked symbol was underneath it and it still gets stuck on the 4g LTE screen. Also, it won't allow me to enter the recovery.
So I went back to download mode on my screen and i noticed that it still says "System Status: Custom"

You have to be able to boot into recovery, make sure you hold the volume up + home for an extended period of time.
If you can't, you need to Odin the stock rom and try again.

If you can't boot into recovery it must've not flashed perfectly or something else is wrong, like your hardware.

I highly doubt that it is a hardware issue. I just tried to ODIN again and I'm in the same situation. One thing that I have noticed is that it tries to reinstall the MTP driver after using ODIN and it fails to install.
EDIT: Nevermind. I was able to enter recovery this time. I just did a factory reset. Hopefully it boots now. I will report back with results.
UPDATE: Ok. Everything seems fine now. Used casual to root and unlock bootloader again. Then installed PhilZ Touch Recovery. Now I am making a backup, and I am going to flash a Kit Kat Rom.

Boot into download mode, then hit volume down to boot back to system and you should be good. Then unlock your bootloader with EZ-Unlock 1.2. If that doesn't work, you can Odin the file in the previous post. I tried to flash it and it came up "bad file" twice. Didn't try Odin. Maybe it will flash using that.

You have to extract the file from inside the zip that i linked, and then Odin will accept it. Ez-unlock isn't in the play store, so I think I'm just going to Odin it and use beans town to root and unlock.
I take it download mode didn't get you back to start. If you're using Casual to unlock sometimes it doesn't take so make sure you're unlocked before booting into recovery or you'll get the same screen. Didn't know that about the .zip, just trying to help. Same thing happened to me. Good luck.
