It depends on what type of email server your .edu email use.
Ex. incoming: imap.mail.ucla.com port 443
Outgoing: smtp.mail.ucla.com port 25
You need to know the mail server details not just it is a .edu email.

Try Microsoft exchange, that's what mine have always used.

Yeah, try the Microsoft Exchange and the Google ones. Those are going to be your only 2 options. At my old college, we ran on Google's servers.
If you use the dedicated email app, you can just choose "others" and all ya have to do is enter your email and password.

If still no luck with those options you could possibly log into your school email from a computer and set it up to forward to another email that you do have working on the phone..
Good luck hope it helps..

How to access Hotmail from WM6.1 Outlook

I may be the only one interested in this but I finally figured out how to accesss my premium hotmail account from Outlook Mobile in WM6.1. I was hitting a wall when trying to setup a new account in Outlook. When I entered [email protected] on the first setup screen and hit next, I would get the screen with the link to Windows Live Hotmail. Here is how I got it to work.
When adding a new account I entered [email protected] in the email address box. This allowed me to get to the next available settings needed to configure the account. Once I configured and setup the account, I went back into the account settings and changed the email address to [email protected]. Works now!
I'm sure all of these talented people on this website already knew that but I couldnt find it anywhere.
try this

Try this for http.
Sorry for this.
Sorry to bump such an old thread, but google sent me this way.
Does this treat it as a pop e-mail though, or like an IMAP account?
This is great advice! I tried this approach and it worked beautifully. No additional programs required on my little device so I can check all my accounts together.

Desire Email widget and Gmail

Finally figured out how to get the Desire email widget to work with Gmail.
Don't know if this was already posted.
Basically, create a new Exchange IMAP account using your gmail account.

I did it last night by doing a search, so I'm a little fuzzy still.
But here us done if the info:
You go to the email app, and add excgange account.
Select IMAP
Server address is m.Google.com
Domain is Google
Select SSL security
Search for the correct in and outgoing ports.
I will look later, and get back.

[Q] Advanced Gmail client?

Im looking for an advanced version of the gmail client. Paid or free, it doesnt matter.
I need the basic functionality currently on offer (just for gmail addresses really), but with more options. Landscape view like in touchwiz would be nice, as well as better attachment options, etc..
Pretty vague but you know what i mean
Why not just use the stock Samsung email client?
Regards,
Dave
that k-9 mail is meant to be good
maildroid looks promising to , one free and one expensive version..
Try Moxier... thumbs up from me. Only cost 20 bucks

Nonsense! I get push email from my GApps account using the stock client.
Hint: Use Exchange ActiveSync, which Gmail supports.

in stock email app, i will to add a account for my *****@gmail.com
later, in account options, is possible to specify the "scan new messages timeout" that
implies the email protocol is pop. imap don't poll for new messages.

First of all you are wrong in that IMAP doesn't poll - it can use poll at intervals if you wish. IMAP IDLE is a pseudo push, and that is what you are thinking of, but it is still a form of polling in essence.
However, all of this is immaterial!
In the stock email client, when you set up a new account you enter your email address and password. At this stage, you could click next and it would set up your Gmail account as IMAP. However, if you click Manual Setup, you get 3 options:
POP
IMAP
Exchange
Select Exchange account and then enter the follow:
Domain\Username : [email protected] (or [email protected] if you are using GApps for Domains)
Exchange Server : m.google.com (for both regular GMail and GApps for Domains email)
Press Next, and then you get the option to change the "Email Check Frequency", which by default should be "Automatic (Push)".
Job done! True push on stock email client.
Regards,
Dave
Wow, just wow. I didn't know about that exchange stuff. That's insane! Thanks!
hi,
i have configured my gmail account in order to send emails using another identities.
in gmail is possible to select the identity of the sender, but not in stock email app.
it's correct or i'm wrong
Thanks for the info, I just set this up on my tab and I can use the account to send mail but it seems like it's not receiving; also when I click the sync button it says unable to connect to server. very strange.
Thanks. It work perfectly in my tab.

AWSOME!
just tested this on my tab i like the mail app a little bit better then the gmail IMO
so it seems I'm the only one getting this connection error when I attempt to setup gmail exchange on the samsumg email app =(
Has anyone tried this with more than one exchange server? When I try to add an exchange server, the exchange button is grayed out. I'm guessing it's because I already have a different exchange e-mail setup?
Edit: Interesting - I deleted my other exchange account and I'm getting the same "Unable to connect" to server error message everyone else is getting. I even changed the domain to Google (using some old knowledge I used to do something similar to this to sync my contacts with Google on my old Windows phone devices: http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=138636).
Any ideas?
I had set up several gmail exchange accounts, and they all worked. However i think that app is memory hog, it's slow, with buggy notifications and in the end i switched back to the standard gmail one. Did you notice that there isn't really any alternative email client on the market?

Noob can't sync Gmail to Sense Mail App

Hi, all. Noob here. Title says it all. My google account has synched but for some reason, I can't add my gmail account to the Sense mail app. I added my hotmail account to it and it worked fine, but every time I try to add my gmail account, it gives me an authentication error and failure to login. The funny thing is that the gmail app works fine. But for some reason, the Sense mail app won't add my gmail account. Would be nice to access all my emails through one mail app.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thx.
Noob.
To get Gmail in the Sense Email app, you have to setup your @gmail.com account as an Exchange ActiveSync account. The server address is m.google.com . Everything will sync up just fine, including mail, contacts, and calendar. You can use push mail too if you'd like, or set an update schedule.
I setup my gmail account in Mail under the other option and it works perfect
Sent from my HTC Sensation using Tapatalk
It doesn't have to be a exchange account, I have it set up without that. You should go into your gmail settings on the computer and make sure the pop and/or IMAP is on.
Thanks for the suggestions. Tried all of it, but still not working. Weird. Not too bummed about it though...the gmail app is pretty good.
Are you 100% putting the right password in?
Do you use and special characters that you might not be typing correctly in the phone. If you do maybe change it to a easy password temporarily just to test.
It should be easy to setup, took me like 10 seconds

[Q] Getting school mail in the stock mail app

I've been doing some searching across the web and I've yet to find a definitive answer on this issue. I'm trying to get my school email account to link to my Sensation via IMAP. My school uses Gmail as its mail server, so you'd think it would've been easy to link it. But I have yet to make this work after I've enabled IMAP on my email account, and tried numerous configurations in the IMAP server settings of the Sense mail app. Could anyone offer some help with this issue?
My school email address configuration is: "[email protected]"
Did you try setting up gmail with your school's email address?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
Yeah, I've selected the Gmail option when creating a new mail account and entered all the information I had. If it helps any, my browser's url says "mail.google.com" when I'm logged into my school's email account. I've tried "imap.mail.google.com" and "mail.google.com" along with "pride.hofstra.edu" and "imap.pride.hofstra.edu" in the IMAP server settings, but still no luck.
Try forwarding your school email account to another email account. I had this same problem and I just forwarded to my gmail account and everything is good now.
incoming server is imap.gmail.com if you're using gmail app/servers, and port 993 with SSL
@op, just call ur skool's tech team or whatever n have them help u with that. I had to do the same since the incoming and outgoing servers r diff, and have diff port #s. All this I dint know n I was wondering y my setups never worked.

Dude... you guys are making this 100 times more complicated than it actually is.
Enter it as a gmail account WITH NO SPECIAL SETTINGS and just enter your school email address for the gmail id, then enter your password as usual.
I did this for my work email and it worked in two seconds.

I've tried entering my information without any settings and the same issue about being verify IMAP settings appears. I entered "imap.gmail.com" and, strangely, it says that my username/pass is invalid. I tried logging into my account via the regular gmail.com and it says it my name/pass is incorrect (weird?). I suppose I could just forward my school email to my regular Gmail as a second option.
I think this issue might be more complicated than it seems, since my school is somewhat known for its poor competency when integrating tech into its network. I suppose the incoming and outgoing servers are different or something. I'll ask around at tech support when I go back in a few weeks and see if I can get this cleared up. Btw, I'm actually a student staff member of my school's tech support team. Albeit, I was only recently hired. Thanks for the suggestions, everyone!
Just enter [email protected] as a Google account under menu, settings, accounts and sync.
To access it via web it should be https://my.hofstra.edu/cp/home/displaylogin?service=/mobile/index.jsp
Yes you should enable imap and pop settings. You can also configure your main Google account to send and receive for your edu account. I have like 5 emails routed through my main gmail.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Just tried that, and it says that the password is invalid. I only need to sign in once for my school account to access all my services. There's also no mobile version for login either. And my IMAP and POP settings are both enabled on the regular desktop version. I guess I'll just route my mail through Gmail. Sounds much easier to do!
I also just had my school's emails forwarded to my Gmail account. I haven't had any problems this way and it took two seconds.

Are you typing in the full email address or only the id? You need the full email. Password may also be case sensitive.
