[Q] HELP! phones being a b - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So recently my phones been acting up. I had just installed the TEUV kernel from trinity and began noticing some irregularities.
1) the home button started to open the desk clock
2) the power button stopped turning off the screen
3) in bootloader, the up and down volume rocker doesn't work
So naturally i tried to wipe the rom and start new again. However, the phone won't boot up and most far i can go is bootloader. I cant do anything here because the volume rockers don't respond. I tried doing it manually throught ADB but the computer doesn't see the device.
any help guys? I'm really out of ideas so any would be great.

besides for the home button opening the deskclock, i experience everything else. but for me, its because my power button is broken. sometimes it partially works but acts like its stuck even though its not. in bootloader the volume keys dont work unless i flick the phone with my fingers right by the power button. then every so often the volume buttons work in bootloader. i use the twrp recovery btw, because it has on option to not use the power button to select.

anything else i can do?
my computer cant even recognize the phone for some reason.

also, try this.. pull your battery for two minutes, then put it back in and try booting. if it boot, you can boot into recovery via the terminal.

via terminal? is that command prompt? oh and what drivers do you think ill need? thanks man.

you can install the nexus s driver via pdanets website, thats the easy way http://www.junefabrics.com/android/index.php
download and install the free program(its a tethering app) onto you desktop/laptop, then open it and follow the onscreen instructions. it will install the right nexus s driver for you. you might have to uninstall the other driver, if you had it installed.
about the terminal, yea, its a command prompt right from your phone. if you dont have the terminal emulator installed, you can get a free one from the android market. open the terminal and type..
su(press enter)
reboot recovery(press enter)
i dont use adb at all, i use the terminal emulator instead. there are lots of cool things that you can use it for. for example, i flash/update my recovery through the terminal and sometimes also push boot.img through it to my phone too. plus lots of other stuff

Thanks Simms!
the one problem is I can't turn on my phone either. Its stuck on a bootloop. That is why i'm trying ADB. I'm trying to install PDAnet but its still not locating it. I'm going to try on another computer and check back in a bit.

The fastboot program you run in command line. Like ADB but for flashing img's real quick.

im not sure. maybe im not doing it right but on bootloader mode, under device manager, the phone doesn't show up so im guessing USB debugging doesnt work? thanks so much for the responses guys!
any more suggestions?

thats how i was the first time i saw it move after i knew the power button was broken now i can get it to move within a few minutes by flicking the back, with the cover removed, between the battery and speaker, when pressing on the volune keys.

Haha i got it to work! went right to recovery and quickly restored my last backup!
finally, the nexus is back. thanks everyone!!!

Nexus S boot problem

Here's the problem..my Nexus S power button isn't working, so I was using other hardware keys to shut down, turn on and such. Now I got into a problem. I installed chainfire3d drivers and now the phone won't boot and since my power button is broken, I can't access recovery. I can get into fastboot but the volume up/volume down buttons won't work so I can't select the option "RECOVERY" plus my PC doesn't recognize that my phone is in fastboot (I'm using Windows 8, 64bit.)
Can someone help me with this, if it's possible? How do I get into recovery?
Thank you in advance.

There might be several solutions to your problem. According to what youve written it seems that the powerbutton is stuck in the "ON" position, right? Meaning that the phone turns on when you insert the battery. It would also mean that in bootloader you cant select anything because the powerbutton is "pressed". Sadly if this is the case, having properly working drivers wouldnt help since phone wont be detected until the powerbutton is in the "OFF" position.
Case 1: powerbutton in "ON" position
Solution 1: Send your phone to repair. Sadly you will have to pay for that since your warranty is void (unlocking the bootloader voids the warranty as far as i know". Having the button unstuck would allow you to choose recovery with volume buttons and accept with power.
Solution 2: Since your warranty is void, do it yourself. NS disassembly is quite easy and theres nothing to be afraid of. In this case theres just some dust so once you také it appart and clean the powerbutton it should work again. Having the button unstuck would allow you to choose recovery with volume buttons and accept with power.
Case 2: powerbutton in "OFF" position
There are plenty of tutorials around here on getting drivers to work. General advice would be reinstall the drivers, try different ports, try to do it from other computer.
Hope this helps, good luck

Hey, thanks for the help, much appreciated. I'll try to open the case and clean the power button if possible and see if it's gonna work then.
On the other note, after 3 hours of searching I finally found the right solution. When on the Google screen, Windows recognized the phone as "Nexus". I clicked on it in device manager and installed Android ADB interface driver (which I downloaded via SDK manager). Windows then recognized the device in cmd via adb and I could reboot into recovery with the command "adb reboot recovery".
What a relief! :victory:

Well I'm just..brilliant to say the least. After I fixed everything I tried to install the Chainfire3D driver again, this time with no EGL and well, same thing happened, no boot. Stuck on Google screen, just that this time, Windows recognizes the device as "google file-cd gadget usb device" not as "Nexus" or "ADB interface". Damn it...
Edit: Well, I'm clueless now...any help would be appreciated..

I can get into the fastboot menu, but I can't use the volume up/down buttons and I don't think that my computer recognizes the device in fastboot at all, because of the broken power button. If you could help me somehow, then I would really be in your debt.

Asking for it aren't you?
Chainfire isn't compatible with Jellybean. Seriously.
Google-file CD Gadget USB Device is what becomes detected as "Nexus" later in the boot process. Have you tired detecting devices with adb devices?

Yeah...learned it the hard way..I'm too stubborn sometimes. Chainfire3D actually worked on CM10 on the Optimus Black, seems like here it wasn't the case..
Anyway, about that, yeah, I did and it doesn't detect it. Can I somehow turn the CD gadget USB device back into Nexus, like it was before or?

Make sure your phone is connected to your PC. Then hold VOL down and press power if I recall correctly. It might be both volume keys together that you hold, but either way you need to make sure you phone is connected to your computer.

If nothing else helps, I guess I'll just send it to a repair center for the power button. I wanted to do that anyway and I sadly I have a real reason.. :/

[Q] Unplugged MOTOACTV during adb clockwork recovery. How screwed am I?

Title pretty much sums everything up. Was trying to mod it following the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36348097 and unplugged the cable while in CWM like an idiot. Now the device will not shut down, nor will it be recognized by the computer. Battery pull is not possible with this thing either, unless I want to disassemble it while it's running. Pressing the power down button in CWM does nothing, and none of the other options work as well. Do I just have to wait a day for the battery to die, and will I be able to even use the watch then?

Indeed it did. Having a new issue though. Stuck in a bootloop when I tried the first instructions from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28179638 and can't seem to get out. Above command doesn't work.
EDIT: Fixed by waiting for the battery to drain, allowing me to boot into recovery, and used the adb commands to do the mod.

How To Enter Recovery With No Access To HBoot Or Rom

Hello all! Here is a guide on how to enter recovery if you cant access it via volume down and power and if you cant boot into ROM.
[Note] I am doing this on a Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit computer.
Prerequisites:
Have HTC drivers installed
Have Android SDK To Run The Command
Tadaaa - you should be entering Recovery Now Congratulations
When you're phone is plugged into the USB port you can use the command: adb devices
To see off your phone is recognized.

well when your in your rom, youll realize that the volume down button does indeed work, but sometimes only, so if u keep on pressing volume down + power button for a long time, eventually youll get to the bootloader
but that might take a long time, so your method is the better option

[!!!URGENT!!!] HTC Desire S .. dead??

Hello there. This is the last chance to wake up my phone because I already made a big number of googling..
I have tried to change custom recovery, got error message that space (or memory) is not enough. Resterted the phone and it just turned off. Now I cannot boot it. Phone has no reaction to buttons pressed. I have tried to boot into hboot (volume down+power) but phone is dead, The only positive thing is that the phone recognizes the charging over the AC and USB.
Please could anyone suggest how I can boot the phone into hboot/bootloader/fastboot?..

I think I may have just hard-bricked my G3. Is there hope?

I (stupidly) decided to repartition my Moto G3 using this guide. Now, when trying to turn my phone on, the screen stays blank and there's no indication that it's working but it reboots once every two to five seconds or so (telling you how I can tell it's rebooting would be a long story and I'm sure it's irrelevant to the issue).
Am I just hooped or is there hope?
Can you boot in to bootloader?
If yes just flash stock firmware (should include partition layout)

Nope, all attempts to get into the bootloader fail. The screen just stays blank with no indication that it's doing anything at all (although behind the scenes it's actually rebooting once every few seconds). My (uneducated) guess is it can't even access any of the partitions.

Volume down broken
Hi! My mom's phone started to heavily slow down with its stock firmware so I tried to install a custom firmware since I installed one on mine and we both have Moto G3s.
Thing is, it bricked and the volume down button is dead since a few month so I don't have access to the bootloader, otherwise I would just flash the stock firmware. Only buttons working are volume up and on/off buttons.
Is there any way to access the bootloader with this button or am I screwed on this one ?

Is there any way to access the bootloader with this button or am I screwed on this one ?

Can you boot the ROM?
If so, you should be able to turn on usb debugging and run 'adb reboot recovery' and reflash from there
