[Q] INTEROP-UNLOCK for MANGO - No revert to NoDo - is it possible for HTC devices? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there, I've read several guides and tutorials around how to allow InteropServices on Mango (beta2) devices by changing MaxUnsignedApp value, but so far there was no working solution for HTC devices, only Samsung ang LG(?).
So does anybody know how to enable interop services on HTC device running Mango Beta 2 and regular Dev unlock? I really don't want to revert to NoDo once Mango RTM is available in Zune.
Thanks in advance!

If you continue reading, you should have read that there is no way yet, but its still being figured out. Hopefully real soon.

If you are already unlocked, have TouchXplorer already Sideloaded, USB Storage Enabler install on your PC, & HTC Connection Setup, than you can do this registry hack with CustClear.ProvXML. Create the ProvXML, copy it into \Windows\ of your device & run HTC Connection Setup. If you are own NoDo, I suggest installing Registry Editor & Advanced Configuration Tool by Schaps as he now has Mango compatible versions available.

It might be possible to patch a network selection app for everybody with an unlocked device.
You will download the app legally from the marketplace, than use heatcliffs method to replace a provsion file from one of the providers by deploying the app. This provision file now contains all the keys to unlock, run your legally downloaded network selection app, select the patched network and bam unlocked.
If somebody is willing to test I might give it a shot, PM me.

I tried TouchXplorer on my HTC HD7, but it won't work, because of InteropServices limitations - with the capabality in manifest it won't install, without it it installs, but does not work. I've tried several file system managers, ho success. I don't know, what is USB Storage Enabler, but if it's some kind of homemade USB jig I'm not interested.
Well, it looks like NoDo revert is the only way

This is why I said if you have TouchXplorer Sideloaded before Mango. Then, it'll work. I have TouchXplorer/Registry Editor (Mango Version)/Advanced Configuration Tool (Mango Version already Sideloaded & waiting for official update to come through so I'll be ready. My only concern is I might need to use the unlock hack when i update to Mango even though I have an official AppHub account. When I tried upgrading to the Beta & RTM, the unlock tool wouldn't connect due to apps/registry changes I have installed.

If that is the case does that mean screen capture app based on dll will work?

So I rolled back to NoDo today, dev unlocked, installed TouchXplorer, Advanced config. and DiagProvXML, uploaded CustClear.provxml file to Windows file and runned Connection setup... but after updating to final Mango nothing works, all three apps are not working, so I guess it's no go for me with interop services.

This is an absolute no-go. Of course I tried this, but Interop-dependent apps installed before the update didn't launch after the update. Interop-dependent apps in Mango won't install. With the capability commented out they install, but don't work. Especially TouchXPlorer, which does not show any files, Registry Editor seems to be working, but cannot acces the right keys (same as on NoDo), Advanced Config works, but does not actually apply the settings. I also wasn't able to make any of the ProvXML deployers work.
ProvXML I prepared to the Windows folder was not applied by Connection setup (however this method NEVER worked for me before Mango, I'm actually quite surprised, I've been that dumm to try it).
Heatcliff says he's working on HTC-compatible Root Tools, so let's just wait for it

[Q] Deployment issue

Hi i have been trying to deploy a xap that is 80mb size lately, but no matter what i do i kept getting the
"Error 0x8007274c" - A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.
If i deploy smaller sized xap (10mb 20mb) it works perfectly, but cant seem to deploy larger ones. And i have tried the official deployment tool, Tom XAP deployer, and XAP deploy X. All the same result
BTW, i have updated to NoDo, im guessing it has something to do with that....
Thank you all for helping!!~
Is there no solution?

In my trophy i had the same problem when i was in 7390 (nodo) verison of the rom...
After the 7392 update the problem is gone and i can deploy big xap files
colossus if you do further testing I'm sure you'll find out that this depends on the xap itself. 7392 was just security updates as far as I understand so there's no reason that this update should have magically fixed this problem. Test other xaps and report back if you can.

Hi m8..
I did make those test so far no big xap that i cant install....
I had the same problem with 7390 rom and i was under the impression that the problem was there after the 7392 update.
And i had a long discussion about this in another forum ..
After that i try to install 2-3 big games +100mb and the installed just fine ...
If there is a specific xap you want me to try please let me know ...(i send you a PM)
I have a XAP that installed fine before Nodo. It won't install now. It failed on 7.0.7390.0 and it also fail now that I have 7.0.7392.0. When the files are being installed they are written in this location:
\Application Data\Phone Tools\10.0\Install\{AppID Guid}\
The XAP I try to install is way over 100 mb. But when I look in that folder I see that after the failed install the XAP is always between 66 and 68 MB. I use my own WP7 Root Tools to look there. And in the new version I'm working on I can also copy and delete files and folders (this version will probably ready for release in a couple of days). So when I delete the complete folder with defective install and try it again it always has the same result. I tried all the appdeployers I know (MS App deployer, Tom's installer, WPDM, XAPDeployX), no difference. I also tried to copy the XAP to the phone first and place it in the Install folder. That works and the complete file is present. But when I try to deploy, it just gets overwritten and it fails again.
I also tried to disable Firewall and Antivirus temporary, but it didn't make any difference.
I'm on Omnia7 with JK1 firmware. OS 7.0.7392.0. I have the RTM version of Windows Phone Developer Tools. Would it possibly help if I upgrade to a newer version of the Windows Phone Developer Tools? With the release of NoDo there was also a new release of the Windows Phone Developer Tools. And there is a new beta version for Mango now. I think I'm going to try to install the Nodo version of the Windows Phone Developer Tools and see if that helps.

Windows Phone Device Manager for WP7
first move some content out of the xap
deploy
now use wp7devicemanager to copy the "moved content" into installation folder.
does currently not work with mango beta tools
SOLVED!!
Finally got it fixed. You need to install the January update of the Windows Phone Developer Tools (that's version 1.0.1, which is meant to go with the NoDo update on the phone).
You can download the updates HERE.
After I installed the updates I could immediately deploy large XAP's.

There's actually 2 updates on that page:
1. VS10-KB2486994-x86.exe = update for the VS-plugin. The page actually states that this is a fix for deploying packages over 64 MB.
2. Window Phone Developer Tools v1.0.1 (January update including Deployment Tool, Connection Tool, Emulator, etc).
I tried to install only the small Visual Studio fix first. But it didn't fix the deployment apps. I guess this only fixes the 64 MB package limit for when you deploy from within Visual Studio. After I installed the big update for Windows Phone Developer Tools v1.0.1 I could deploy big XAP's. In my case no reboot was necessary (I did close all deployments apps and Zune etc before I started the setup). Windows Phone Developer Tools 1.0 RTW must be installed first if you had not already.
Hope this helps!

Ok. So you're saying you have the Mango beta tools installed and you're experiencing the deployment problem? That's weird. That probably means that the Nodo fixes in version 1.0.1 are in a branch. Or the mango tools are branched from the 1.0.0 version. Either way. The fix is not in the same branch as the Mango tools. That means that if you have Nodo on your phone, you should use the 1.0.0 version (RTW) of the tools and then apply the 1.0.1 fixes. But you shouldn't use the mango tools, or else you will still suffer from the deployment issue.
Ciao,

yes exactly
currently there is no public deployer working on mango beta tools exept the one that comes with the tools, but i cant deploy large xap's with it.

[Q] Hd7 Tiling changes?

Hello, I'm relatively new to the wp7 platform and am wondering if there's a way to change the tile colors to something other than the ones that are set? I'm new to all of the phone editing world as well, so sorry if this seems like a 'noobish' question. Thanks
You need to have an unlocked device & side load the app, Accent Changer.
Thank you!
How do I go about unlocking my phone??
Does your device have the NoDo update? If so you either need to sign up for a student apphub account to legally unlock your device or downgrade to a pre-NoDo ROM & unlock via a hack like Chevron Unlocker. There's a few threads around XDA about this.
See these;
NODO jailbreaking,100% sure
ChevronWP7 Unlocker & Cert download
You'll also need a side loader app such as;
TouchExperience WPDM public release
I'm at OS Version 7.0.7390.0. I believe that's the NoDo update, right? Do I use the first link to unlock it then??

Correct, that is NoDo. The firt thread I posted shows a way to hack unlock by downgrading or else try this (How to register/developer Unlock Windows Phone 7 for free, even NoDo) thread which I used to unlock mine.
I'm not a student, so I don't have a student email ending in .edu. How do I downgrade? Thank you for all the help and everything by the way!
Find the Forum for your specific device & there should be a ROM for it you can download & flash. Remember, you'll have to reinstall all your apps, contacts, settings, etc.
I did the zune restore. I'm back to version .7008. Do I just follow both of the links you previously posted now?
Use this one, you'll need the ChevronWP7 Unlocker & Cert to complete the steps.
EDIT: Intsructions for the Unlocker Tool found here.
When I go to open the Chevron thing, I get an error message, that it can't find my phone or soemthing. That's not normal, is it?
No clue, I never used it. I can tell you, make sure you emailed yourself the cert & download & install it from you cell's hotmail. Also, make sure Zune is open.
At the unlocker & cert link, how do I do step 5?

Registry Editor
You'll need to side load it with Tom XAP Installer v1.2
I also recommend side loading Advanced Configuration Tool to enable Max Side Loaded apps.
Also make sure the Dev tools are installed...
What Dev tools??
I dont know what I'm doing wrong. I keep getting the message saying it can't communicate with my phone. :/
Oh, I think this is the WP7 Dev Tools FiyaFleye was talking about.
EDIT: Also, make sure your cell is not asleep or locked. See this video;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ozyq-PMD7g&feature=player_embedded
EDIT2: Just realized, that reg should be on your PC, not cell, duh. Open Start Menu, click on RUN, type in "regedit" without quotes. Click ok or hit enter key. Registry editor will open. Browse registry to the specified value in step 5. From what I read, this value should be added by the Dev tools, or you can manually add it. Once you successfully unlock your device, make sure to go to the how to thread & follow thesteps to prevent MS from relocking your device.
So the dev tools won't work if I have windows xp? That's unfortunate

Okay, I've changed the registry, and i re-downloaded the ChevronWP7 file, but I'm still getting the error message that says "Can't communicate with phone, please make sure phone is connected via USB - Please make sure Zune is running." when I try to open the file.
Could this be happening because I was running the NoDo update previously?

Depends, what phone?
HTC HD7. Everything would be ok and I could use to new design, but none of games isnt working - MS Revoked
Developer-unlocking a Mango phone (dev-unlock is what ChevronWP7 Unlocker did) is possible with an official marketplace developer account, or (soon) through ChevronWP7 Labs. If you have a restore point for NoDo, there are ways to carry the unlock forward if you don't have an official one (although for HTC it's more difficult than for Samsung or LG, and the methods keep getting closed off).
"Application has been revoked by Microsoft" message usually means that you're trying to run a sideloaded app on a non-dev-unlocked phone. This can be fixed by dev-unlocking. Now, I'm going to avoid jumping to any conclusions, but there aren't that many games publicly available for sideloading. XDA-Developers is about using our phones without artificial restrictions, not about using other people's work without paying for it. Discussion of software piracy is not accepted here. Just... thought you should know.
I restored my phone back to nodo with backup. Maybe will try to update with unlock someday.
ps. maybe someone can tell me privately how to reinstall (install android) if there is no exe files but only system files in extracted folder ?

[Q] Help with interop unlocking samsung omnia w

I have unlocked my omnia w using my MS student dev account. Now i have sideloaded and tested 2 of my apps, and came to know there is a sideload limit of 3 apps.So i'm going to interop unlock to remove sideloading limit.
NOW THE PROBLEM IS,
Im going to follow Heathcliff74's method for interop unlocking,http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1271963
since i can only sideload 1 app more(2 apps already sideloaded),
ill deploy this app shown in his post to interop unlock( Interop Unlock by Heathcliff74 v2.xap).
but after this will i be able to deploy samsung tools and wp7root tools?(as my quota of 3 apps will be over).Beacuse if i cant deploy samsung tools after interop unlock,my 3g will be screwed.
So will i be able to sill deploy apps after deploying Interop Unlock by Heathcliff74 v2.xap?Please help, thanks
OK, you've got several things wrong here:
1. The easiest way to both dev-unlock *and* interop-unlock a Samsung phone is WindowBreak. It doesn't require being able to deply apps (dev-unlocked) at all, nor does it use up unsigned app limite.
2. You can remove the interop-unlock app immediately after installing it. The important change it makes is made through the installation, and is not removed by un-installing. There's no reason to even ever run the app.
3. You *could* always remove one of the other two apps, of course. When you un--install apps, they don't count against your limit (crazy, right?).
4. Since the whole thing that interop-unlock does is change the registry key that controls the unsigned app limit - and you even appear to already know this - why are you even asking? After interop-unlocking, your limit will be raised to a few billion, so yes, of course you'll be able to install more apps.
5. Most hacks of this type for Samsung now incorporate Auto Data Config. You *should* only need to reboot the phone to get your 3G back even if something happens to it.
Thanks for the quick reply.Windowbreak is not working on my phone. The exploit has been patched by samsung in its
recent update.
My question is that after i sideload Interop Unlock by Heathcliff74 v2.xap,will i be able to sideload WP7root tools?
(cuz my sideload limit of 3 will be over).Does just interop unlocking provide unlimited sideloading, dont we need to
edit registry with wp7tools or use removesideloadlimit.xap to provide sideloading after interop unlocking?
Else Without deploying wp7 root tools,i would not be able to touch the registry, and my interop unlock will be a waste!
Healthcliffs Interop Unlock will not work
I am in the same situation as you. I have student unlocked my Omnia W. I have tried loading Interop Unlock and it did not work on diagnosis version 1109. Also windowbreak does not work as the phone is updated. I have tried rolling back to old firmware using Flash tools. But they can't flash this phone. There is also no custom ROM available for Gen 2 Samsung. So, as of now, those with Samsung Omnia W updated to diagnosis 1109 cannot roll back. Waiting for something to happen with fingers crossed.
Interop Unlock *is* the "unlimited" sideloading. That's what control whether your phone is interop-unlocked. i think you have cause and effect reversed...
If you revert the Samsung firmware update (either roll back the update using Zune's backup, or re-flash an older stock ROM) you can use WindowBreak. If you don't, you won't even be able to use Heathcliff74's interop-unlock; it works exactly the same way as WindowBreak except it uses a XAP file (deployed via PC and requiring dev-unlock) instead of a ZIP file (deployed from a website and requiring no unlock at all).
If/when you are interop-unlocked, yes, you'll be able to install WP7 Root Tools. Why would you assume otherwise? Anyhow, interop-unlock is useful even without WP7 Root Tools (since it allows sideloading lots of apps) and, for the record, you can edit the registry without WP7 Root Tools (interop-unlock *is* a registry edit, nothing more - specifically, it edits the MaxUnsignedApp registry value that controls how many apps you can sideload).
So there is nothing to do,than waiting for new exploits, for omnia w?Thanks for the clarifications
Well, or what I suggested...
If you revert the Samsung firmware update (either roll back the update using Zune's backup, or re-flash an older stock ROM) you can use WindowBreak.

If you have a Zune backup, you can restore it by connecting your phone to the Zune software, then (on the PC) going to Settings -> Phone -> Update. There should be a button for restoring the latest backup. Note that you'll lose all changes to the phone made since that backup was created, including things like SMS and app data. You'll be able to re-install purchased apps, though.
I recommend also backing up your backups (more properly called "restore points") since otherwise Zune overwrites them with each new update. They're stored in %localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update\ and you can just rename the folder to prevent Zune from overwriting it (the folder will be re-created with the old name).

The good news is that this device has a mfc application and bult in registry editer. something I have never seen on a windows phone before.
Using the mfc app I was able to debrand the device from at&t and apply 8 updates in with zune bringing me all the way up to date with latest version of windows phone 7.8
=)
I am also able to use the built in mfc app to unlock the device and apply hack so that the device does not relock when I connect to zune
=)
I'm not really planning on keeping this device but before I let it out of my hands I want to use it to develop a simple application that will apply project ora to any device with out custom roms and a locked boot loader.
I have my device unlocked and I am able to sideload applications i used wp7 root tools on the device and most things seem to be working well exept some small issues.
The main issue I want to focus on will apply to other devices and that's getiing project ora working. im shure i will fix fixes to the other issues in due time,
ok so right now what i need is an app that will let me apply rgu remotely.
all though i can install xap's with windows phone device manager i cant seem to read files from the device.
I have used this method before on another rom and device so i know it will work my only issue is the drivers. or application im using
on the htc hd2 i was able to apply rgu using the dft bt file transfer application
unfortunately this application wont work on this device. i have also used xbmods provxml deploy application to set rgu on the device but im currently unshure how to make the new provxml out of the rgu i have,
I have an older version of the mod xbmod made for me but now i want to update and relese finished work
Project ora.rgu will apply 237 themes all having 237 accent colors to current windows phone 7.8 rom.
the only issue is that some specific registry edits must be removed first depending on your device your installing it on.
so i just want to know if someone can help me apply this huge list of registry edits to my device in some way that it will be easy for everyone to use. because applying these settings manuly is not even doable were talking 5000 lines of code.
if you want to see what project ora has to offer just check my rom in my sig
can anyone help me?
