[Vote] for the best Custom ROM LG Optimus 3D - LG Optimus 3D

As the number of custom ROMS or STOCK ROM is growing here and some cooks are providing full/lite/meduim versions I just wanted to get an overview on what to include in a light ROM. So, please give tips on for making the best lite ROM experience as possible
If you are missing an option, please post it...maybe we can collect it here afterwards...
Thanks to this great community!

All of them are pretty identical to be honest with you but...
Where's PeterKing's KingDroid ROM on the list?
This one I mean:

I think that's the best ROM that I have used and he's working on the new version based on V10J

OMG...i miss.
ok, i will update thank's for correction
but..i cannot edit this vote.
i'm so sorry for peterking. i miss your rom.

non at the moment, I'm not gonna vote this. Don't get me wrong and please do not flame me, it is not at all about the developers, I appreciate the developers as everyone does and I thank to everyone for the great custom roms. It is the LG Stock 2.2 roms that suck big time and all roms are based on them at the moment. With the experience with other Android phone, this expensive so called high end phone don't deserve a ****ty rom. I'm only putting up hope with the upcoming official gingerbread rom, probably only then I will get more answer if this phone deserve as a keeper. And from then on, hope Cyanogenmond will have everything 3Ds working.
I'm totally pissed of with the phone due to the rom in many ways.
BTW, my previous old WM6.5 HTC HD2 with ported Cyanogenmod works way better than this LG phone at the moment. What the ****! really!

I fill the same with ^^^^there are to many lg custom roms I'm ready to sale this puppy

Am using the Stock rom. it has everything I need .
I only
installed root
and did few modifications of some files
to improve a bit the JPEG compression (now my pics are round 1,5MB - was about 0,9-1MB)
and video bitrate (about 9-15Mbps - 10sec/15MB - was about 10sec/10MB).
Thats all i need and this works great, has a nice default font and everything is running fine.

I`m totally agree with you.
Current custom ROMs are great and I really appreciate what Devs are doing but the ROM's are basically the Stock ROM without some of LG's apps and a few build.prob tweaks and a different theme.
You can still see some Stock LG in their ROMs. For example, none of them has managed to fully remove LG's Social+ cause you can still see it in Setting>Accounts & Sync even though they removed the Widget.
My only hope was CyanogenMod but the current one is waaaay too unstable and buggy.
I kinda regret selling my old Xperia X10. It had a huge amount of amazing ROMs to choose from.
Oh well...

right now the stock rom or thiaiz rom which uses the stock kernel is good.every other rom i used makes me sick...feels like my old captivate was faster even having a single core..i suggest everyone just stay on the stock and use some tweaks till GB is out..then maybe we can see some hope!
if it wasnt for the 3d stuff i would have never bought this phone!! i would have gone for sgs2!!

Hi mate.I'm comming from HTC Desire and SGS2. Every single ROM in boths forums looks the same.Stock, cyanogen or MIUI(chinese cyanogen copy) based with build.prop and themes tweaks. What you guys expect HTC Sense running on O3D ? What they have that we dont is custom Kernel and GB, and we have 3D + 3D converter. But I agree LG did a big mistacke with Froyo and that can cost them a lot.

So you're angry just because it says 2.2? I can tell you how to make the info about say eg. 3.9.9 if you'd like Be happy that the stock rom is stable without any troubles. My opinion is to better have not the newest version but the one which is stable, and this is what LG did - its stable, not crashing, compatible with all official apps. I had many smartphones and its not that common that a stock offical rom runs so smooth as 10D made by LG, believe me.
And, the update to 2.3 will be released during October, so you dont need to wait such long to get rid of 2.2 the official way

Gingerbread will be release on oct
hi all...
Yesterday LG say October will release GB for LG Optimus 2x, Optimus Black and Optimus 3D. so...patient please

tbh i love the phone...
I bought it for the 3d video recording. 2 complaints though:
1. poor bluetooth stack (my iControlPad would be a perfect fit for Mario64 in 3D) and
2. the audio quality on the video recording is appalling. I hope GB fixes this (or a custom rom!
I would be happy to contribute very generously to any dev that can fulfil my 2 gripes.

Im happy with my stock rom. What i need is everything the same as are (the same launcher,3d space) everything as stock, just would be good to have rooted phone and better video photo quality, of course faster is better too. but its fast enough for me after htc wildfire so does whis forum has what i need?

I flashed the stock V10j (Australian one) and I don't know why but it was slow and laggy. so I went back to King3D v1.8 for now until ThiaiZ release v.1.3 of his ROM.
On the positive note, the Converter app was cool but when you convert a game to 3D, it became a little laggy. (The ROM had Angry Birds Rio by default. When converted to 3D, it wasn't very smooth but it was awesome nonetheless)
I didn't notice any other changes compare to V10e.
Cheers and sorry for my bad English.

Probably.
But not yet. Trust that Cyanogen and his army of coders will crack the secrets and port the ROM.
But not yet.
On a related note, hooray for the 6.1 Stable release!
That is all.
which is more stable and fast, CM6.1 or MTtest3 ??

Think they're about the same. The MTTest3 is good but I prefer CM6.1 for all the extra goodies that come it it. CMParts etc.
Okey, I will try CM6.1.
I don't think android 2.3 will run fast as 2.2:
2.2 is a port of official froyo from mytouch3G, so it's very optimized.
I hope in android 2.3 on G1, I would try to develop something to port 2.3 but I don't know how can I do.. I think by the official sdk but.. mmh
(I'm a programmer but I never developed roms for phones)
Cyanogen said on Twitter that he currently has no plan to port 2.3, as the OS will most likely be GPU-driven.
Honestly, his 6.1.0 release is pretty great.

yeah but now our device is really going to be out of date. :/
Well I think it's about time to upgrade to G2 or Nexus S. There's lot of great phones out there. G1 is rocking long enough I think, it stopped to be fast and responsive from Donut update or so...

flash cm6.1
flash gapps
flash latest pershoot kernel
next time go to the right section and provide logs etc
I think we must try to port android 2.3 to our g1!
BTW if 2.3 is too slow for our phones, I'll stay on 2.2, no problems!
I'm waiting for a perfect phone:
slide qwerty
800x480px amoled/superAmoled/superLCD
ram>512
rom>1gb
slot SDXC rolleyes: )
cpu>1ghz (and good performance.. the number isn't sufficient )
possible cpu with dual core
excellent gpu
5mpx camera with flash and 720p 60fps recording (also 1080p 30fps would be perfect ) with good optic and NO HTC PINK HALO
google experience or sense
I ask too much?
Do you think I'll keep G1 for the rest of my life?
It can probably be adapted from the AOSP source, but since it has some new gui thingy w/e that is, it will never be the same on our devices, whats the point in downgrading from something that works quite well atm, 2.2.1
Cyanogen's cm6 isn't one of those roms which have the myTouch base of T-mobile. It's pretty much coded from the Nexus Rom and ASOP.

Point of updating to 2.3
Well, for me there's one big reason why I'd like to upgrade to 2.3 - Native SIP.
What I don't understand is why Native SIP hasn't been built-in from 1.0! Now there's a flood of poor and mediocre SIP apps on the market, none of which are very good.
I sure hope 2.3 comes to the G1!

Having just switched from MT3G-test3 to Cyanogen 6.1, I would have to say they're pretty comparable. If you put my feet to the fire, I'd say MT3g-test3 is slightly faster, especially in regards to installing apps from the market. But the goodies available in Cyanogen are so good that...
Aargh, it's hard to decide. I have a nandroid+ext of both, so I can swap back and forth at will. I might spend a few days with each to see which one I enjoy using more, and report back. One thing making it harder... I have a white G1, which historically has had problems with Cyanogen. But the latest seems to be working a lot better than previous releases.

Which one is right for you?

So i am familiar with flashing phones somewhat. Used to jailbreak iphones but lost interest since the iphail screen broke and was just a POS in general. Been using a blackjack2 ever since which never failed me till recent.
Big upgrade to the inspire so even ATT Rom would be "WOW" to me. Question is how do i know what rom to flash. Which one is right for me. So many out there.
I am looking to flash the phone and then unlock it but what rom has the least amount of glitches that is running pretty smooth and allows all functions to be used.
Was lurking around for a bit and saw this.

roms are chosen by preference really the only way to find a rom that best suits you is to try them all till you find 1 that you like
now the link that you posted is the rom that i first went with & never looked back try it out & see how you like it
yea from what i have been reading this is confusing and its down to personal preff. Quiet honestly i dont want to keep switching things even though its not that hard.
I was searching and also found that leedroid is praised upon but i think leedroid is just better than stock with the bloatware out plus a few added bonuses vs the link i provided is loaded compared to leedroid.
Not sure on what to do here. I dont mind the battery life staying where its at. An increase would deff be good but its my first nice phone in a while so i want to enjoy it.

Make a rom back up of each and that way you can just return to what you like the most.

I have never even tried CM7 - Something just doesnt interest me about it. So Ican;t sway you. But really man, just make a back up of what you have now. Don't like the new one recover. If you like the new one, make a back up of it and try another. Its saves time and you can try em all. I'm a Rom Junkie tho so...Lol
CM7 is very nice I had it for a while and its nice. The problem with CM7 nightly is you will flash alot because they have alot of updates Im currently using MIUI and Im absolutely LOVING IT!!!!! I was using LeeDroid before and it was also AMAZING. I just love how MIUI have alot of themes to go with it and the UI.

Yes or just updates making it better. Yes to me LeeDroid was my favorite Sense ROM. Like that guy said you can just try every ROM and see which one fits you best.
yea try more than one rom. add some rcmix kingdom in there. sense 3.0 is slick. but its pretty alpha (stable enough im still using v 0.1 daily)
dont matter just use some sense and backup before making changes. if your txts are that important, dont forget to back them up too.
I've got to second this - I haven't used MIUI yet, but LeeDroid is the best rom I've used yet. I've tried CM7 and Android Revolution.
I have been liking this rom a lot:

Thinking about getting this phone, but dev section seems dead why?

I was thinking about selling my Vibrant and buying a G2x, but the dev section seems to be pretty dead. Any reason why wasnt this CMs personal phone at one time?
I think part of it is LG's quick memory regarding it. Quick as in quick to forget it, and Nvidia won't release driver source so devs are forced to reuse the 2.3.3 release in order to get 100% functionality.

Some devs don't post updates on xda. Some of them give updatea via twitter or other sites. But it's not dead.
Sent from my Calculator with Android.
Does anyone know if they will ever release new drivers? So basically until they do which is most likely never this phone has been as updated as possible? I noticed CM7 is still updating which means 2.3.6 so is there much chance of ICS? Finally who are some good people to follow on twitter for good roms? Thanks a ton guys!
due to overall problems
I believe there were many more developers that planned on developing for the g2x and bought the device to do so as i did.
But with so may problems at the start i just didnt want to even attempt to rom for this device and be blamed when the phone self destructed. after much tampering it is running pretty well but i just dont trust the phone and im sure there are some others that didnt work on the G2X for the same reason. There are some very good options out there and talented people that are working on the G2x. so dont be afraid due to low quanity because there is some high quality work done.
Not sure it will grow much since its been obvious that tmobile and lg's fix for the phone is to shutup until it goes away. But the roms have the phone running pretty well and you wont be disapointed, But i would wait until oct 12th and get the hercules(even without the samsung chip) will be a killer phone or the HTC coming out the same day with similar specs.
This phone works fabulously with CyanogenMod, EXCEPT that bluetooth audio (to a wireless headset or whatever) doesn't work.
Other than that, EVEYRYTHING works. Love this phone.
Well that's disappointing to hear that I probably will never see ICS running on this device. It's a very capable device and the fact that LG refuses to update makes me want to put them in the same category as Viewsonic (unfortunately I also bought the g-tablet).

will be the best hope to get icecream running. if they do so than other rommers will also follow suite. but cm leads the way on drivers and such for most roms. so if they dont do it ussually noone does. But i wouldnt expect to see anything from LG, they have not shown anything in the way of skill or care to put out updates for their devices.
Because there ate stable ROMs out there and you can only do so much. Other lively dev sections ate deceiving - 20 variations of the stock ROM with different wallpapers and start up screens does not mean a lot of development for the phone.

I've been running cm7 for about a month now and I'm really happy with it. Every other rom I try have issues and I always come back to cm7. It makes the g2x a very good phone IMO
There are plenty of devs to follow just some took some time off to dev for other devices ... I follow fitsnugly because he does some great compiling with his roms ... Morfic has some awesome kernals and faux123 has his aosp rom and awesome kernals... doniqq has his eaglesblood roms ... whitehawkx has weapon rom... so there's plenty ... I'm a crackflasher so I'm always running something different .... I felt the same way ..Was thinking of jumping ship to a different phone but I just live this phone... Just look around the forum.. there's always somthing ...
One of the basic things I had to decide on was whether I wanted the LG camera app with an OTA based rom or all the fancy-ness of a CM7 based rom. Now I'm at the point where I just group OTA or CM7 and go from there.

I was running this rom up until 5 minutes ago... I just reflashed fitsnuglys 9/27 kang... Dont get me wrong the 2.3.3 roms are great... There's just something about the cm7 and the kangs that I like... There's always something new added to them and for me they seem to make my phone run better ... Sure there's no LG camera but there's plenty of camera market apps..
Yeah, I see updates for ROMs pretty often, every 5-10days, that's a good release period, and if you want to use a ROM that is constantly being developed just run CM7, a lot of people say it's not good with battery but if you flash one of morfics kernels you will have great battery life. Some people run into issues with it but if you wipe everything you should be fine. Faux's AOSP Rom+Kernel run great together also.
While development might have slowed down a bit for this phone, there's still plenty of excellent devs and roms to choose from. I have always preferred faux's aosp rom/kernel combo for my daily stable/very reliable/great performing/battery life.
Now if you want to see no development look no further then the mytouch4g slide thread. That's just sad cuz even the og mt4g has tons of devs working on it and its still a great phone.

At this point bud there are so many good ones, there isn't a "best" they all are good in their own ways and they all have bugs. Whenever I think We might have a best one, A bug happens and some other ROM pops up and takes it's place. So the best thing to do is try some of the top ones and decide what you like best. I've already seen where someone will get a little *****y if someone directed him to the "best" and his opinion is different. So the best cannot be declared at this point lmao. Sorry I know that's not what you wanted to hear! lol
They all are about the same as far as lightest and smoothest so I'm not sure. Khal's WanHU is very good except for the contacts and number formats. Khals Miui is great too. Khal's v4 is good and Brianlili's Bravo is good. Mz's CM6.3 is great Then you can try the CM7 ROM's.

At this point bud there are so many good ones, there isn't a "best" they all are good in their own ways and they all have bugs. Whenever I think We might have a best one, A bug happens and some other ROM pops up and takes it's place. So the best thing to do is try some of the top ones and decide what you like best. Thanks for your reply.
if i just consider for the lightest and smoothest points, then i should choose CM6.3? how about the CM7, it can be daily ROM?
by your experience, among all of them you have tried(all ROMs not only CM), which one have the greatest battery for no significance bugs, lightest and smoothest ?
Sorry for my poor english
Rather than start a new thread, I thought I would post a "me, too". I would like a lean rom, too. But I have a couple of more questions.
I've been away from these forums for way over a year and am overwhelmed by all the activity. Back when I used my G1, there were lists comparing the features of various roms. Is there something similar for the XT720?
I've been using a Nokia N8 and am very unhappy that the USA doesn't have Anna yet, much less Belle and I need a portrait qwerty and am tired of waiting. So I dug my XT720 out of the closet (I bought it at a close-out and never used it because of horrible battery life). It's not a 12mp but it does have xenon flash.
So that's my other question - which roms have stable cameras?
Oh - and USB OTG (Host mode) is also a plus.
Thanks,
Terry
p.s. my sig file desperately needs updating.
Hi, I'm form Venezuela, and i bought the moto xt720 UNLOCKED from USA, and i wanna upgrade the OS but i don't know which one to use... i was thinking for the Cincinnati bell official rom but i don't know the issues it could have, CM7 i couldn't find any for the xt720, so wich rom do not have any issues and are stable to use? I want to stay with my unlocked phone... and i like photography... please help me
thanks
Hello and welcome back.
There are a host or ROMs for this phone right now and it is quite hard to narrow down to "The Best". Each as their own +/-'s and while one might be a monster in speed, it might have poor muti-tasking or bad camera. Here are some of the ROMs we have and some of the +/-'s they have (not all, just some +/-'s).
In no particular order other than the top came out first and bottom is the latest.
2.1 Stock - Came with the phone. You can falsh via RSDlite the sbf file for your region.
2.1 Stock~ESB (Eclair Strikes Back) - Same as above, but has aorking app2ext, camera, FM Radio. Still it is 2.1
Dexters 2.2 with MZ patch - First successful attempt to port 2.2 to our phones. All features of 2.2 but camera is sketch and FM radio doesn't work (unless you apply FJfalcon radio patch but then it is still loud), media button doesn't work.
Kahlpower's V2/3/4 - Optimized version of Dexters. Same issues as above but is more stable and generally was the choice as a "home" ROM for many users. I have my wife on this one as we speak. Low maintenance, a good everyday driver. Has App2ext/ Link2sd, native Froyo App2sd.
Cincinnati Bell's "official" 2.2 - More or less a glorified version of Dexters 2.2 but I think the Mioz7AE found a "listening" script that may or may not send info back to developer. I would stay away from this one. Plenty more to choose from.
Wanhu 2.2 (also Wanhu's Kahl's Optimized) - Korean port of 2.2. FM radio and camera does work. Number formatting is off. App2ext works fine as does native Froyo app2sd.
XDA Special/ Hellmonger Edition - This was moveing really well and then Hellmonger's phone crapped out on him and his carrier gave him an HTC Penache, so no more support for this one. But is DOES work and worth a try.
CM6 - our developer Mioze7Ae's masterpiece (for now until he moves on to something else) All the features of CM6, including themer. Has App2ext and Link2sd.
WIPs
Brianlili's Brovo 2.2 - This one is almost done, jsut a few little thing to finish it off.
JYDaddy's CM7 (nightly/ HoNo/ iceandfire...)
FJfalcon's CM7.1 (make massive progress daily on this one as it is being built from source).
Like I said there are +/-'s to each but the are all spelled out for you in the OP of each thread. Plus, unlike other phone forums, we actually answer your questions and dont respond with, "search".
Good luck and remember to always BACK UP.
Nice work Woodrube! Should be very helpful, just about covered as good as we can, everything is a tossup at this point lol. I was thinking Khal's MIUI would be a good option as well it's really stable from what I can Remember. I forget what the bugs are in that one.
Hi Terry,
One thing you specifically asked about was the camera in each of the ROMs. And unfortunately, in my experience the camera has always been a problem with all the ROMs, including Motorola's 2.1 ROM. Its a bit of a shame considering the 8mp cam and the xenon flash. One thing that seems to be consistent across the ROMs is that the first picture usually takes awhile to process before you can take another (if it doesn't crash) but after the first they tend to do well picture-to-picture afterwards. Not sure why that is.
Has anyone else had a really good experience with this camera? If so which ROM?
I've personally tried:
Motorola Shipping ROM-European (2.1)
Dexters v13 (2.2)
Khals-v4 (2.2)
MIUI Final v2 (2.2) - I had the best experience with this camera, but other MIUI things I didn't like
CM 6.3 (2.2) - Current ROM (Thanks MZ!) - works, but has 1st picture lag
Best,
Jayson

I think the best for cam's is Khal's v4 steelblue and his WanHU And probably his MIUI, I forget but Khal was good at tweaking the cam's. The Bravo cam's are very good as well.
***EDIT*** Talking about camera
Thanks for all the responses. I rooted the phone this weekend but didn't have time to research the various recoveries before getting ready to try a new rom. And I need to buy a bigger microsd card and partition it.
Thanks for the warning about the first picture lag, too. I tend to take a lot of macro, close-up pictures - often text and barcodes, so I could probably live with it.
The unmodified camera is touchy, it seems to me in comparison to other phones. I get the occasional awesome image and lots of fumbled ones. The buttons are oddly placed and the phone is so thin that when trying to take a picture, I often accidentally touch the screen and mess something up.
If someone ever ported Android to a new Nokia, that would be awesome. (I had it dually booting on the Nokia N900 but it was never very usable.) Maybe the new WP7 on Nokia hardware will tempt someone into porting Android to it.

If you are using Defy, I recommended CM7, but if Atrix, stock 2.3 will be fine.
My friends told me that

Here is a thread from our master developer that has the Recovery that we are all using. It is really a piece of art. Install instructions are in the OP.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242259
Also, not sure if you are in the states or not, but I have noticed in the Sunday papers that Best Buy has micro-SDCards for cheap.
For partitioning, I use MiniTool Partition Wizard and the seems to do the trick for me w/o data loss. Others use GParted/ Linux. I've never used in, so I cannot say one way or the other. Tip: only partition your ext to ext 3 and use the recovery above to change it to ext4 (only a few ROMs use ext4 so read the OPs)

He's not using either of these. It is a Milestone XT720
i was looking for one room i can use that is functional and stable to use, i found one post since 10 febrary 2011 for dkszone (i can't post any outside link for a while)
this work?
never mind, i found it and it's Dexter's ROM, i'm currently looking for the "best" rom i could update my xt720

[Q] there are several modified roms out there, but kind WHICH IS THE BEST?

hello guys, for anyone who would like to own experience tell me which is the best ICS ROM? I mean, a rom that works totally 100% (3d, sound, media, it does not crash ....) and is fast because the official ics without modifications is somewhat slow.
Because I know that there are several modified roms out there, but kind WHICH IS THE BEST?
Leave your comment please!
I have stuck with xbsa roms since I found ics ported from su760. It keeps 3d (the reason I bought this phone) and they are tuned for speed. I don't have experience with other roms. Also I wrote an installation tutorial for it, so I am somewhat biased
unfortunately i must say O3D doesn't have a REAL custom rom.. just cyanogenMod which doesn't have 3d.. and still is nightly and not fast & responsive enough..
our custom rom are actually Official roms with some apps and theme...
i think our professional Dev's have other phones and don't spend enough time on O3D..
any way.. i prefer OptimusRs's rom.. it's light and good...

It's funny, has a cell phone that has not only changed the official ics and works better than ours that are official. Go figure? Well we were there in wait hoping someone to testify a rom perfect and fast.
Sorry to tell you guys, there's no thing such as perfect ROM. It's up to the individuals to decide for themselves, and there are so many threads like this, usually ends in flame wars, so all I can recommend is for you to decide what works.

For me, the best ROM is Darkroom V4 and Acura Euro. Both are extremely fast and both have tons of improvements, but Acura has very aggresive RAM mangement and it closes application sometimes, while using it, so I chosed Darkroom and I am very satisfied.
check this alone. once you are on ICS big partition it is easy to switch between the custom roms.
I like the combo in my signature down here. But all other are also very good.
