Speaker volume hack? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Not sure why this isn't. Bigger topic or why it hasn't been addressed. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say the speaker volume is disappointing. Any way to increase it? Volume control + doesn't work as it doesn't let you increase the volume past factory limitations. Voodoo sound is only for increasing headphone jack quality.
anyone?

Volume+ works for me as well nothing special has to be done I just go into the Speaker Settings, enable the speaker modifications and increase the volume level. I have no idea why you are having problems but there is no doubt that this app makes my phone much louder.

As it was said by the developer, volume+ will not work with a stock rom. Last time I looked, he said it will work with miui and cyanogenmod. Read the notes on the market and his website.

Enable speaker modifications? I can't find that setting at all within volume control +.

Okay, I'm running Pete's stock rooted 2.3.7. I just removed voodoo and installed volume+. It's working with both speaker and headphone. It is possible that having both installed, volume won't work. It is also possible that since I removed voodoo, volume is working. Increasing the volume limit, step by step, that the boost isn't easily noticeable. I don't suggest this without lowering the main volume from system first. After I got past 8 and around 11, there was a noticeable increase in volume with an increase of distortion too. Going from that level back down to 0, I noticed it right away.
I think the problem before was the increase was so slight when compared to voodoo that it didn't seem like it was working. I'm sure having voodoo installed, even though disabled, was keeping volume from working. Now when I get some time I gotta play with the eq and see what happens.
I prefer voodoo for headphones. It might be my imagination but I think it's cleaner sounding.

You are using the wrong app. Its called Volume+ there is no control in the name.

This is the app we're talking about:

If you're on CM7 or alike you must first use Titanium Backup to remove DSP manager because it will interfere with it.
If you're on stock, use "best quality" setting on the latest version. That's the only one which seems to make a difference when changing the level but only on stock ROM.

I just discovered why it seemed like the eq wasn't working. If you have volume+ at 0, you won't hear any changes in tone when playing with sliders or presets. You need to get the volume level of the app up to a noticeable level, then you will hear a difference with tone and dsp. The developer even said in his FAQ that volume+ is software controlled and voodoo is hardware controlled. Kinda like the difference between hardware and software decoding when watching movie files.

Equalizer by smart studios it works on music, headphones etc

How to fix inaudible call volume

Running stock 2.3.3. Even with call volume maxed out I can barely hear the person on the other end. I have tried with multiple calls to multiple people and get the same thing.
Anyone know how to fix this problem?
Anyone experienced something similar?

i have that problem, i tend to use speaker more. hopefully a mod comes soon
I'm running CM7 RC1 with Voodoo kernel, not sure if the Voodoo sound patch has any part in this, but the volume on my phone is quite loud when using Skype. But in a noisy environment, I'd rather use a pair of noise blocking earphone or headset.
Yea i can barely hear the other person as well. I dont know if its just in my head but it almost seems like it started after the 2.3.3 update

During a call turn the volume down and then back up. When you turn it down you won't notice much difference but you will when you turn it up again. It seems that the volume settings thinks it's at max when it isn't and you need to reset it by turning it down.
Hmm ill give that a shot

Don't think so. The same issue was present with the N1, kernel developers implemented an audio boost feature that really helped this issue out. Hopefully we will see the same for the NS soon enough.
I would LOOOOOVE for an audio boost similar to the N1 to be implemented for the NS.

[Q] volume of the front speakers? Help please
hello all
does anyone know the phonecodes for the nexus s (service mode)? I want to increase the handset (speaker to the ear)!
in the galaxy s, he is **#*#197328640#*# but not work
nexus s CM7 netarchy 1.2.7
sorry for my bad english
does anybody know how to raise the volume of the front speakers?
I'd like to do this also. Default max volume is too low, sometimes hard to hear what people say.
exactly!
It must be possible to increase the volume
with the voodoo kernel only the speakers on the back work
I have the same problems, in call volume is too low :-( and its not the provider because with my Galaxy S the volume is okay.
Phone speaker is quiet but with my bt earpiece I can get it loud enough to hurt my ears.
Sent from my MattedBlues CM7 Nexus S from the XDA Premium app.
i don't know about you guys, but i have no problem hearing the call even in busy ( noisy ) streets environments.
using any of the 3 methods:
normal ear speaker
back speaker
BT headset
on 2.3.3 stock, no mods of any kind
temporarily solution:
During call set volume to min and then to max and then it's OK. After reboot problem is back.

Only volume probs I come across 2.3.0-2.3.3 has been the other person's provider (att, Boost, Metro) so far.

Volume+ App?

Do any of you guys use this? The low speaker is started to frustrate me like crazy. Can barely hear calls on speakerphone even when all the way up, and I have to turn the volume all the way up to even be able to hear youtube videos and sounds in games. It's pathetic. Will the volume+ app fix this? And what setting do you use? I'm just looking for it to be a little louder and not blow the speaker.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1149422
People do use it.
There's also Equalizer in the Market which is what I use.

Boosting sound with/without root. (volume+)

so i read that the volume+ app will boost sound, it does work for me with the music app but my transformer is already really loud for music.
i want to boost the volume while watching movies as i have some mkvs and avis with very low volume, and volume+ does not seem to work for that through the speakers. haven't tested the headset.
i'm currently not rooted, but if possible i'd root to do this. I just want to be able to boost the volume while watching movies and then go back to normal when i'm doing anything else.
Any ideas?

thanks for the complete lack of help.
You asked for any thoughts. I pointed out an option that you haven't mentioned yet. There's only so much you can do to force the volume to go louder from a software point of view as well as the actual speakers themselves. Thus consider a hardware option of buying external speakers which not only allows you to have louder volume depending on which speakers you buy, as well as it allows you to go back to normal by unplugging them.

Volume+ worked fine for me on the Transformer. You do have to experiment with it a bit. On mine I would start a song playing then open V+, I would set the EQ and volume then hit "enable" and listen to the difference. Some EQ settings and volume settings actually made the sound quieter. For example boosting the volume over 12 made the volume much quieter. I can't remember which EQ setting had that effect but I think in the end I used 11 for the volume (it gets pretty loud and a little distorted if you turn it up all the way after this with the rocker switch, but i figured I could keep that lower anyway) and I used "good quality" for the EQ. Yes I am rooted running prime 1.7 and clemsons version4 kernel. Not sure if you will have the exact same results but hope this helps anyway.

and also download this to make it even better, https://market.android.com/details?id=com.smartandroidapps.equalizer&feature=search_result u need to get the paid app to save ur own presets. hopes this helps

Volume+ (APP)

After going through a dozen [non-working] volume boosting apps, I finally found one that worked on the Skyrocket.
It has several settings: speaker, headset, bluetooth, in-call (this setting requires root).. I've tested both ends of the spectrum, and it has boosted or lowered my volume greatly.
So if you are in the market for a volume boost, check out Volume+. I will verify that this works on the SGH-I727.
Edit....no effect at all on buoyancy
Speaker headset or bluetooth
Thanks! Previously i have tried that app on other devices but it no workie
Will check.it out again

Did you get the paid version? That's what i have and i did a make shift test to see if it worked..
I had a microphone that was held to my phone and i played a test sound with no boost and with a boost.. There was a 6 bar difference.
It works for me.

NeXuS MOD 2.0 ATTUI. Works as described for me. I work in a noisy environment and i struggle with hearing my incoming messages, but now i hear all of them.

[Q] How do I boost the volume on Nexus S

I have CM10.1 and it seems to me that the volume on the headset is lower then usual. There is a warning if I go past the "safe" point but the safe point isn't very loud at all. Is this a bug? Is there a way around it? Kernel? Mod? Better ROM?
I downloaded Speaker Boost, but when increasing the gain it did the opposite!
Try a sound mod like acid, etc..

You know what is weird, when I tried the "Voodoo Sound Mod" it wasn't until I selected Boost Bass that the sound jumped up at least 5db over the max. Anyone else noticed this?

Can you downmix to mono with Viper?
