[Q] Search, Home and back buttons not working - Galaxy 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
All of a sudden Menu/Search, Home and Back have stopped working on my Galaxy 3. Although the lights does blink however they do not respond. Home button responses on its on will . I had official froyo running on it...and have tried Indroid v.6 ...but did not get any result...
need urgent help...

What do you see when you hold power button? see only the 'option "power off" or other things? (like on / off data connection etc. ....)

@ Ale_bot : when i hold thepower button..i get options for silent mode, datanetwork mode, flight mode and a power off option.
I've just flashed a original rom from samfirmware.com...home button has started working but not the back and menu ...

take it to a samsung service centre. flash a official rom before you take it

are roms available at samfirmware.com official ?? if yes..i've already flashed one..but the keys arent working..

take it to the samsung care... they'll fix it or replace it with a new one (!!! they did it wid my cousin !!!) or maybe an ace (!!for some people only!!)

the only reason i'm not willing to take it to samsung care is because...my phone is out of warranty

^Yeah, he's right. A few weeks back, even I had faced the same problem with my i5801 model. Apparently they found some kind of liquid or something on the touch panel . Lucky for me, it was under warranty, so got it replaced for free.

Out of topic...but mine ended on 12th sept

lolz...manish best of luck...

go to Terminal Emulator and type

[Q] Phone's softkeys are not working at all

My Phone's softkeys are not working at all. It glows but dont work.
Touchscreen is also not working, Everytime I had to lock screen by power button then after unlocking the touchscreen works for 2-3 touches....then again I had to lock screen.
I tried to flash MIUI 5.6, ICS CM9 v6, v7 but same issue.
Now flashed the Stock DDKP3, but issue still persists.
Plz Help me If someone can.....Pleaseeee !!!
I guess there is some fault in the touchscreen.. A hardware issue.. Better show it in Samsung service center.. I don't think there can be a software prob as u have tried all ROM's..

Wow, another user with the same issue.
Mine is just a wild guess that kernel 2.6.x may be a cause of the problem. ie after shifting to ICS.
Im waiting for kernel 3.0 before visiting service center. Gonna cost Rs.5K man.
i wasnt on ICS..
had stock rom with cf-root, deodexed, and a few mods!!
check out ebay for the touch panel! its there for about $28, im thinking of getting one down!

Opening the device will void your warranty completely.
There's a high chance that you ruin something else in the process, phone hardware is very delicate, so i suggest letting a professional do it..

Look at this post.
There also it is mentioned that trying differenet kernels for CM9 may damage the Touchkeys.
Anyhow......I also had to visit Service center, but after Flashing Stock DDKP3 I regained my warranty, so It saved me my 5k as you told.

WRONG again, it doesn't affect the touch keys hardware wise, it may just affect how it works for that kernel and ROM only, not the hardware, what he changed there is that touch keys only light up according to ambient light, while other kernels don't use that so it just messes that up.
CM9 has nothing to do with ruining your touch keys, it's a hardware issue, stop playing smart with it, only way to fix it is the good ol' service center haha
I had the same problem...soft keys not working...tried many roms but no use...
I am from kerala .a place In south india...I took it to a shop in penta meneka ..they said the display is fine..the small touch sensitive strip beneth the soft keys need to be changed..its worth just 500 rupees.....the moment I heard it I felt relaxed coz changing the slcd display is not an option for me....
If any of you have the same problem ..take the phone to a local mobile service store..
Today I will check the cost with orginal samsung customer care and service shop.lets hope they will change the strip and not the display...

Hi ,
I am facing the same problem, In my case touch screen is working fine. Problem is only with touch key. I have also bought this phone from Penta Meneka. What people at Samsung service centre told you about this? Is you problem is resolved? Please reply
Hey, i just replaced my touchscreen and digitizer.. and the soft key prob still insists, i studied it and i have came to a conclusion that the KEYPAD FLEX CABLE might be broken. Luckily, the flex cable costs around $20
I just wasted $83 on my new touchscreen tsk

Galaxy R Display Problem

Hi all,
I have a strange display issue where in I'm observing a blue tinge in my display. Kindly advice of there is anything i could do/test before taking to SSC. Many Thanks!
Please find image below. Although image is of poor quality the problem is clearly visible. Also this is clearly visible only under full brightness and when phone boots, but hardly noticeable when under normal brightness conditions and non black screen.
PS: Sorry for Poor image quality, i don't have a decent secondary phone/camera at the moment.
UPDATE:

My Mobile is back from SSC. Have asked my bro to collect and to do some initial checks(He's new to android).
Initial Impressions:
1. They have replaced the Display unit (Also front panel i guess, there were few hard dents, but now the search for dent goes in vain)
2. Stock 2.3.5 Yet!
Will post more updates as i hear from him/get my hands on my mobile tomorrow. Thanks all for your support! :good:

Key in *#0*# and try the LCD test for colours and sensors buddy. Check if everything is working fine. You can also try the app LCD Test. Seems like the LCD panel might have undergone some pressure. It may be like fallen, or some one pressed their weight over it, or exposed to heat(steam). Check if touch sensors are working in that spot.:fingers-crossed:

Check whether actually it's a LCD issue or it's on the software side.
- Input *#0*# in the keypad & run the different colour tests Red, Blue, Green & Black.
- If the colors seem normal then it could be a software bug but incase you still see those bluish smudges on the screen then it could be a hardware problem.
- Flash the stock ROM, clear the cache, dalvik cache & check if it resolves your problem. (do a hard reset as the last option)
- Even if the above option doesn't help then take it to a service center as it could be a hardware(LCD) problem.
Do update here if it solves the problem. Hope this helps.
Cheers !
Thanks cooleagle and selva.simple.
I tried with the inbuilt colour tests and the LCD App. Every color is rendered perfect except for black. only in black screen i could see the blue smudges. That again with brightness on the higher side it is noticeable, with brightness around 30% it is hardly seen.
I'm away from system, hence shall try flashing stock rom and hard reset at a later point.

Just check wether you have tick/untick Auto adjust screen power option. try doing the opposite thing and then check if every thing is working fine.
This is the issue when running with black screen. All other colors are reproduced fine. Vipul, i tried that makes no difference to the issue.

Phone to SSC
UPDATE: Submitted my Phone to SSC, he was trying to convince me that it isn't a big problem. I have conveyed i have no interest in carrying forward a fault in phone to Out of Warranty period and then pay for the same. He told he shall call back to confirm if display needs to be replaced (Also specified a 4 days ETA)
SSC Updates
Hi All,
After one full week, SSC people called me up today, they said they haven't got any confirmation of replacement LCD shipment from Noida. Hence requested an ETA of 2 days. After that, if they don't get an confirmation on spare availability, they'll proceed with a replacement or refund!
Also, on my request, they agreed to let me use the phone till a decision is made or spare becomes available.
Request you guys to assist me on taking further steps if refund option is suggested by them. Thanks in advance.

It's upto you mate. As ICS is finally here for our handset you can weigh your options. If you're willing to spend more money than what you'd payed for SGR then you can ask for a refund but if the budget stays the same i.e around 21k then there's very little competition to SGR even now.
BTW do ask them & tell us here how much they'll give you back incase of a refund so that everyone could have a ball park figure in their mind incase they also are given this option.
Cheers !

Yes. But its applicable only if a spare hardware or spare device is available. Only if both are not available, they can go for refund. Till a single piece of required hardware of another handset is available, you can deny the refund. I believe u r in Chennai buddy. Which area are you and where u have given it for service.

Screen problems and a few doubts.

Hey, I have a bit of a problem. My screen is acting weird, clicking randomly or just not responding at all sometimes. The only way to fix it is to lock and unlock my screen. Sometimes, even that doesn't work. I also noticed a dead pixel on my screen. It's not very visible but annoying nonetheless.
Sometimes, after a call, my phone just stops responding, and I need to keep the power button pressed to restart it.
What could be reason for these problems? Also, I still have my warranty left. Would the service centre people be willing to fix an issue such as this?
I'm in college right now and won't be able to give it for service for another week. I'm not sure if parts are still available for our device. :/
Also, any news on the official India ICS update? I've been waiting for a while now, checking the forum every few hours for an update or a stable CM build. I know it devs can do it. Can't wait for it.
PS: Any news of epsy? He's been gone for a while now.
Sorry about so many questions. I'm just curious and kind of confused.

@ both persons above; thanks - I myself am facing some problems mentioned in OP (post-call phone dies, sometimes touch is unresponsive and have to lock/unlock screen, slight pixel problem) - and even my phone's warranty runs until Jan 2013.
I'll visit a service center ASAP (possibly this weekend if it's open or next week) and get it sorted.
Cheers!

may be its about your fingers huh? if u touch the screen with sweated or wet fingers, messaging is going to be nightmare
my advice is cleaning your screen with a clean and wet linen or cotton material, and then with a dry one.
also have a high quality screen protecter film.
if u have already tried this and the prob still occours, thats something that i dont have any idea
Thanks, I'll take it to the SSC as soon add i get home.
btw, i avoid using my phone with sweaty or wet hands, and since wiping the screen doesn't help, that's probably not it.
I think the screen guard might be the culprit after all. I've been thinking of changing it for a while now. any suggestions on which one to get?

[Q] My infuse needs repair, pls help!

Hi,
My Samsung infuse has these issues:
Noise when calling (sometimes) like vrmm vrmmm
Hangs up calls when calling
Black screen out of the sudden and the buttom keys light up white. Pressing the power key will not bring the mobile phone back, only solution is to take out the battery.
This happens with all the firmwares, both factory and Cyanogenmod latest one, but still the same.
I read somewhere that this could be a wire that it's loose inside and that by opening the device and reconecting all the wires it should work fine. Any help will be much appreciated.
