[Q] SIM Card Error - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

For the passed couple of weeks I have been driving myself nuts with "SIM card error. No Contacts Saved" when I try to save a contact to the SIM card.
My contacts are all saved on google anyway so I shouldn't be too concerned but I still wanted to know why I get that error sometimes but not all the time.
I have been restoring backups and retracing steps. I've been pulling and re-seating the SIM. Sometimes after a reboot, I could save one contact to the SIM card before it would throw out the error and sometimes after restoring a backup it would appear to work again also but then later I would go into contacts and sure enough I would get the error again.
Today, it seems I've discovered a reproducible result: If wi-fi is turned ON I cannot save a contact to SIM. If wi-fi is turned OFF I can.
Here are my questions
Is this supposed to be that way? Does T-mobile not allow me to save to SIM when wi-fi is on much the same way I can not access the MyAccount app while wi-fi is turned on?
Maybe I should just ask T-mobile but their customer service just isn't as friendly as it used to be.

Yes. Tmobile doesnt consider wifi to be secure so for your protection and your info they do that.

Sim card not detected

Lately out of the blue when I pull my phone out my pocket I see a pop up saying sim card not detected then I have 2 options. Shutdown or reboot. Is this the phone quality built a little out of place or what? I'm sure someone here has seen this message if not all of ya have.

Personally I would go to ATT and see if you can get a new sim...because apparently something is not right with the sim card.
or or or
It could be the ROM you are running, If you are running a Rom...
Running android revolution 5.1.6. Crazy how could it be the rom?

Possibly just a bad installation...
Although it is a reliable ROM they all have glitches, possibly it is the ROM and you should try re flashing it and if the problem is fixed you know it was the ROM, and if it doesnt work Like i said before, your going to have to take a trip to ATT.
It could also be some type of hardware failure in your phone, not sure though.
Have you tried using the SIM in a different phone?
Faulty SIMs aren't unheard of.
Nope just this one. It only pops up every now and then but today it did it twice back to back so now I was like wtf. And decided to ask if anybody else seen this before.

My sister once had a bad 3G SIM card that would only work on EDGE. We were right by an EDGE/3G border, so we could take 3 steps forward and have a working phone in the EDGE zone, or 3 steps back into 3G and have nothing.
My Tilt phone worked fine in both "zones," so I put in her SIM and had no signal in the 3G area, heh.
Oh.. well if the problem is persistant ill just get then to make me another similar

Uh oh...
Same problem for me here as well. Running CM7, was working fine until later in the evening when suddenly the network "died", and after several reboots noticed the little SIM problem icon next to the signal meter. I had the card locked, but went into settings and unlocked it. Now, logically if the phone couldn't read the card then technically I shouldn't have been able to change the PIN, so...
Confused over here. Is there a known fix to this? Or worse - how do I broach the subject with ATT if I have to go in?

I don't know about the fix about it, but concerning talking with AT&T, I'd recommend calling Warranty exchange first. They'll let you go through some hoops like getting your imei and possibly cleaning out your sim card with a rubber eraser. They'll also run some network tests on your phone to see if there are any "down towers" in your area. In the end, just request for a replacement sim card from them and have them note on your account that you want to get it free. Ask for confirmation if it's in your account, then head for the nearest AT&T corporate store. They'll tell you you'll have to pay $25 to get a replacement sim card or something, but just say that warranty sent you and it's noted on the account: should get you your sim for free, if possible.
I have never had a problem getting a new sim card for free from a corporate store. Just go in and ask for one.

[Q] Phone won't connect to network. Sim card works

Hey guys.
I was running on the stock deodexed 2.3.3 GB rom and out of nowhere my phone freezes. I disconnect the battery and start it up but now it won't register on the network
It says "searching" on the lockscreen and I have the no signal symbol at the top.
I try to go to my network setting but it says "insert sim card to access network services"
WTF?
The sim card works in all my other phones.
I've reflashed the phone with 2.2, 2.3.4, and 2.3.3 again but nothing
I've even odin'd a couple of modems. Nothing. How is this possible?
Can someone lead me in the right direction to fixing this?
Cheers and thanks!
I'm assuming you're still on t-mobile right?
if you want to stay on a stock rom, it'll be fine for you to follow the GB Starter Pack guide I wrote. The link is in my forum signature.
Check your imei in settings. May be corrupted.

Im having the same issue did everything according to key on this link
http://androidadvices.com/how-to-update-samsung-galaxy-s-4g-to-gingerbread-2-3-3-firmware/
Worked perfectly no problems but when i load up the phone No Cell Service. Am i missing something?
If you are using an unlocked phone there is a good chance that you will need to insert your apn's manually using APN Manager from the market.
Check and see if you have an updated sim card. remove the sim card and look at the side with the gold contacts. You should see numbers printed on that side. If you have numbers then you have the new Sim card. If not you have a old Sim card that could cause issues. t mobile will update your card for free if you have an old one. Just bring it to the store.

Or like Samoira said check your emie on settings.about phone.Status..check if you have regular numbers or garbage characters!

Hey guys. I found the issue and thought I'd share. Somehow the sim reader got gummed up so I sprayed some electronics cleaner in it and worked excellent.
If anyone ever has this problem just head to your local hobby store and spray it!

[Q] "Insert SIM card"

My Galaxy S 4G has this problem were out of no where, ill completely lose service. When I go to settings>wireless>mobile networks> it won't let me in to the menu and just shows the message "insert Sim card to access network"
I called Tmobile and had a new Sim card activated and still it will not read. I removed the Sim and placed it in another phone and it functions just fine.
I then flashed my phone from froyo to gingerbread and the problem never occurred again. I then rooted my phone and installed cwm. Im running the ROM octane v2.x... Worked fine for under a week and now its doing it again.
It used to go anywhere from a few mins to maybe 2hrs before it starts to read the Sim again... But right now its been 5hrs and still no network.. Does anyone know what is causing this issue?
Its the sim tray on your phone. Its loose/malfunctioning
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App
Can this be remedied with some solder or do I have to replace the entire tray? And is this even feasible?
Yea it can be fixed. Look up youtube videos on it. Gl!!

Based on my experience you will have to get your hands on a VZW SIM Card...
if you did a factory data reset (or return to stock) you will need a SIM at least the first time to get through initial device setup/activation... Then you could do the WIFI only the thing.
Easy option: If you have a good VZW 4g LTE SIM just pop it in for a quick minute... once you get through initial activation it is no longer necessary (put it back in your daily driver device)
Or borrow one from your friend for a hot minute.
Also, it doesn't have to be a "live" SIM Card. I use "extra" SIM cards that aren't attached to an active VZW account all the time.
If you have NO 4g VZW SIM, but a VZW account... It gets a bit more involved...
If you need a SIM take it to a VZW store and have them make it your active phone. You can just switch back to your other device via their website later.
If you want to go back to say a 3g device (different SIM card)... from your "my verizon" look for a "Activate or Switch Device" link... it is there expand the options under "device management". then just follow the prompts to activate a device that was never on your account.
Follow instructions, you will need the ESN HEX or MEID DEC from the device you want to activate/re-activate. Getting back to your old SIM card might require some *228 opt 1 magic after the website stuff. This is a one time thing to associate your account to the new SIM card through the ESN/MEID... basically how to switch SIM Cards.
Note: From a good/activated SIM with no vzw website magic... typically *228 gives a SIM Card already activated this device error message.
(if you get stuck, just leave your new 4g SIM card at home and go back to VZW then have them re-activate your old 3g device for you.)
PPS if you don't have a VZW account at all, I have no idea where you are going to get your hands on a sim card... sorry.
thank you for your help.
I haven't got a sim yet but I got temp access by typing *#testmode but on reboot it reverts back.
can I root t from here?

Interesting...
Where do you type *#testmode? Did you have to pass that from ADB? (if so, how did you get it in debug mode)
Warning: I've never tried... this.
All, Feel free to critique my logic:
-you can flash root (SuperSU.zip) from CWM.
-If you can get into download mode, ODIN flash custom recovery... uncheck reboot! bull battery, reboot into recovery
-from CWM mount system, install the SU zip & reboot...
-get past initial activation with your trick
-then go to /system/etc and delete or rename "install-recovery.sh" (I always add a ".bak" suffix), shut her down (to make CWM stick around through reboots)
-get back to download mode & repeat the ODIN Flash of CWM, this time you can leave reboot checked.
you might find yourself doing your *#testmode trick every time you reboot...
your trick is interesting though... if you can get into debug mode and poke around with ADB there might be a way to make it think it got through initial setup without SIM card... anything is possible
sorry I'm basically useless, but it never hurts to try... and see what happens!
especially if it is a spare phone
warning: YMMV, I'm an ID10T, if you break it touch cookies, trying anything I suggest could break your phone and ruin your life, etc.

When you turn it on it allows emergency calls. You type it on the keypad.
And I was able to get into debug mode.
You keep touching the four corners in a clockwise direction to get past initial setup

To get past one time hardware activation SIM card requirement... given return to stock, or data wipe/factory data reset?
I think I know where you were going with it... but it might be how to use phone wifi only after getting through initial hardware activation.
OP is looking for permanent work around to avoid having to type *#testmode at each reboot.
If your rooted,I wonder if changing this would help..
Notice where it says
ro.setupwizard.mode=ENABLED
I wonder if you changed it to disabled..

He probably activated on his account and removed the SIM. You can't use the phone if you don't activate it with a SIM.

I don't have vzw anymore, nor have I for almost a year now. The issue stems from the setupwizard forcing things. There are two in there - in Tweaked I removed one and the one left allows you to skip all the activation stuff. I just sign in w/ a google account (not necessary, but made one for ease of grabbing games from playstore) and I'm all set. I had to use it as a wifi phone for a bit around XMas, but it was really more of a gtalk phone. It's a great little wifi toy for my son though
EDIT: And this was all without a sim in - and is in part why the hide-no-sim icon option came about in tsmparts lol

right - I took the SIM card out and my son uses this phone has his device. I just set it to airplane mode first, then turn on wifi. everything works fine with minimal battery drain.
This might be something to look at. Turns off the radios without airplane mode.

There are a few possibilities:
1) Local cats in your area will team up and form a coalition against squirrels - just in general, after all they are a member of the rodent family. The streets will soon fill with the screechy fur-bath of cat-on-squirrel violence. It will make local news, but it won't go much further than that. You also may get a rash.
2) The unactivated device will work, and essentially act as if it was your phone.
3) Something completely different.
That's all I got.

So i have a charge for my wife ( upgrading her from an lg ally,,, i have a Samsung fascinate),, we are both on PagePlus (Verizon mvno)
I have a blank 4g sim card and i have the charge on fp8 and nitro's elementalX ROM,,
Problem is when i did the esn change from old phone to the new charge (both powered off during the process) once i booted phone, it wouldn't compete the *22899 activation process or make any other calls.
Any ideas?
Think maybe i need to do this on stk Verizon ROM 1st?
Or
If i borrow a buddy's active 4g sim would that let me complete the *22899 with my phone #? Then give it back to him and use my blank sim?

[Q] No Service on unlocked Inspire 4G w/ Simple Mobile SIM card

Been searching for hours on how to get this working, but I've ended up feeling helpless and stupid which rarely happens.
I've got a friend's Inspire 4G here in front of me. I unlocked it using AAHT (which worked perfectly I might add), and dropped her Simple Mobile SIM card in, thinking it would Just Work (based on other posts I've read). Nope. No service. Period. Tried mucking with *#*#4636#*#* settings but to no avail.
She doesn't care about data (has WiFi at home and at work) but just wants to make calls and send texts. I know there's probably some stupidly simple solution to this.
APN settings my friend. Dink with those.
