[Q] ROM and RAM - Galaxy 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear All,
i have one question. that we have ROM: 512 Mb and RAM 256Mb
when we install ROM its goes where? in ROM or in RAM..?

It goes into ROM. RAM - Random Access Memory. When apps run, they use RAM.

What's the difference between ROM and the internal memory??

In names?
Well, actually there is no differences in that case. ROM in
g3 is a internal memory. But that 512 mb is used for system, kernel, cache and also for your apps.

RAM is memory the system has access to .. FAST memory to load/run apps etc.. whereas ROM is sorta like the phones harddrive

R u a kid? u dnt knw simple stuff almost all kids now-a-days know..

Not really some people may not know what it is.

Ram: Random access memory.
All apps shift to this when the are running. This is used to store temporary data and other things...
ROM: sorta like your PC's hd.... stores everything!
had i not been a new user.. i would have not answered this... please hit thanks!!! i wanna unlock the features

ROM is internal memory. RAM is memory available for temporary that apps need while they are processed..
Consider reading ABOUT ROM! and ABOUT RAM!
Google is great!

Nexus S is at 512mb ram, I believe.
Its 512. But some of the ram is being used by the system, that's why it doesn't show

Hi
This phone has 1GB of internal memory from which about 330MB is traceable, but it's used for the operating system applications, settings, drivers and core.
For storage proper you use SD card.up to 32GB.

Depending on which ROM you have installed, it takes up around half of the 1G internal storage. Then there are other partitions on the internal storage (OneNAND-Flex nand flash) that also take up space, like kernels and bootloaders.
I use app2sd and have a 16G sdcard. No problems here.
Hope that helps.

What do you use for you app2sd? Is there a script that can just move everything to my ext4 partitioned sdcard? Btw I'm used to HTC phones, so far they have been the easiest at rooting, n such.

Hi everyone! My SGS 4G doesn't see his internal memory, like it is not there. This issue happened after flashing the device. The Baseband version was KG4 now I downgraded to KC1 trying to fix the problem. Any ideas why the phone can't recoghise his internal memory?

Internal memory

I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace, and a week or so ago I was trying to free up internal memory. I often have a low memory warning, due to the phone only something like 180mb internal memory. While looking to see what I could delete or move tto fix this, 30mb was suddenly freed without me doing anything.
I know it wasn't just the reading updating, as I was on low memory for weeks on end. Since, I have re-flashed a ROM (carbon Sunday by jusada if it helps) and I'm back on low memory.
I was wondering whether anyone knows why this would happen, and how I can get it to do it again.
All help appreciated

Maybe u cleared the cache?!
Anyway off topic, read about sd-ext partitions for more internal space
I think this will help you. if it does please THANK me.

Can't answer your question, but a little tip for people suffering for low user space; download Link2Sd from Market. Google for tutorials.
I'm rooted so I can move apps to the sd, its just some (widgets) dont work on the sd, Ill have a look at partitioning thanks, I dont think it was the cache, thanks anyway though

apps2sd ? right ?!
..mmmh..probably wrong to say here, but..the apps moved to the external sd card are expecting to be slower then before, when were on the internal one?
app2sd or use sd-ext partitions is your way to fix lower internal memory problem
Isn't app2sd built into GB? Am I missing something? Im using CyanogenMod 7

Apps2sd is the process of moving app files and not data to SD card after boot. This still keeps around 1-5 MB on the phone memory and can be done without root on 2.2+
A2SD involves partitioning ur memory card and using it as phone memory. This is mounted before boot so it's faster. Even the dalvik cache can be moved here
I have a 160 MB phone memory and after partitioning and installing 230 apps, I still have 120 MB free
THANK me if this was helpful

You Can Surely Have the Maximum Internal Space by Installing Darktremore App2sd script and moving Dalvic Cache to sd-ext using Apps2sdGui.
Although your internal Memory will still be used but very little bit, and only for house keeping as Some Apps Require Some of Their Files to be copied on Internal Phone Memory.

Simple the phone needs 500MB to run the OS. The other 1.5GB is for all of your apps.

So it is normal for an S3 to report 1580mb of RAM on 4.4.2? Even electricsheeps Android System Info says there is 1580mb of RAM. Also only shows 12.9gb of storage.

Internal Memory Question

I own a Lenovo S920. It has 4 GB of total internal memory. 2 GB as phone memory and 2 GB as the built in memory. But for some reason the internal phone memory is more occupied than it should be. I have attached the picture. What happened to the marked space?

First root your device then download titanium backup. Launch it and select app you use most and swipe to special features and select on convert to system app now your apps will be stored in system rom
Do It with multiple apps
And at last click on thanks of it helped

It's just that I don't know what's occupying most of the 2 GB memory. It's definitely not the apps.

But what is it that's actually occupying the space? Is there no way to do it without rooting? I had some problems with my last phone after rooting it. It was an HTC explorer.
And I used an app to view the actual internal memory. It says the total internal phone memory is 1008 mb. Where's the rest of the 1 GB??

i think this is the best way to answer your question, There has to be a place for the operating system to go, some phones have two internal storages which one is X amount of gigs to store the Operating system and System apps, while the other is free user space, so pretty much if yours comes with 4gigs of internal storage, its dummed down to around 3gb - 3.4gb and around 1-2gb of the operating system (this includes system apps and bloatware) thats what is taking up your space, thats why most people flash roms because you get tons more storage since nobody wants the bloatware.

It'd just the way OEMs operating system is, removing the bloat might not give you much space but its worth a shot. Custom Roms should give you a little more space. They should take up around 500mb if I recall correctly. I could be wrong but they are ment to give you more space.
