[Q] Screen broken, question about backups - Verizon Droid Charge

Hi guys!
I just broke my phone - the screen - si I can still turn it on, and connect it to my computer. Although I cant access the memory card since I cannot enable the "share mode" .
I have two questions:
-Is there a way I can get back my contact list while the phone is connected to my computer? Like i said, I can't use the screen, but perhaps there is some sort of program allowing me to access either the memory card or the internal memory of the phone (my contact list was spread out on both)
-I know that the phone was doing a backup on a regular basis. Is there a way to access to my contact list online?
Thanks for your time and your answers!

If I knew more about how to use ADB I would say probably yes there's a way to manually pull it from the phone... as for #2 if it was backing up contacts it was most likely to either VZ's backup assistant or your google account, both of which you can recover them from

Thx for the advice Anoninja.
I tried the Verizon Backup online, the list is empty, apparently I never tried it. 'm assuming the "auto" backup was being done by another app..

when you log into your google account after setting up the phone it will sync contacts, calendar, and gmail (and will keep doing it periodically unless you turn off the syncing) so try looking at your account online to see if it saved it... also some apps like facebook or twitter will 'sync' contacts but its really only syncing friends and possibly their numbers/info from that site so it may not be of any help... whenever I add or edit a contact on my phone I export a contact list to my sd card so it's never lost and easy to access when setting up the phone, just import it back in

Serious help needed

hi all.
I am in serious trouble and i need help. i realized i did not have outlook, thus my contacts are all gone.
I had tried to update my software earlier by installing some .cab file. It was a file for my HTC home. The installation was 'successful', however after i did a reset ( they prompt me to ) i could not boot up my phone. It get hanged once it got to my wallpaper, and i cant tap or press anything. The htc home screen also does not come out.
=(
any kind souls?
So something is hanging right after windows boots... did you try to install HTC Home to a storage card? Try booting with the storage card out.
thanks for the prompt reply. i tried, however it never seems to work. I am using a HTC TYTN ii. running on windows 6.1
I did install it on a storage card. i tried means like switching on without memory card, sim card and did a million resets, but it doesnt seem to work.. =(
Actually i install the HTC Home was because the message counter on the HTC Home got screwed up. it showed 1 unread no although i had all messages read. but anyway, for now, tht's not my main concern.. =(
thanks all in advance ..
I guess I do not understand all of your issues besides the freezing at boot.
A hard reset should be an option, if you're ok with that... and then for the future, use sprite and pim backup to make sure you don't lose too much data.
Try searching the forum for threads like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=320689
What caused you to lose your contacts?
my contacts are all saved in the phone, and it wasnt back up cause i am not using microsoft outlook.. and lets say i want to do a hard reset, how to do it?
and how do i do a soft reset with my phone.
Is there anyway that i can actually do a SAFE mode boot up? but my phone keeps getting hanged at start up. i dunno if its because it cant bring up a pin enter mode where I need to key in my pin each time i boot up.
0) What version of ROM were you using?
HTC TYTN ii
1) Applications installed when it happened
HTC HOME (old version ) i d/led and used HTC Diamond home, then it got screwed up cause the unread messages kept showing 1, although all messages were read. i thus wanted to reinstall the HTC home.
2) Radio ROM version (2.19.21, 2.47.21, etc...)
NONE
3) Device model (dopod 818, imate etc...)
HTC TYTN II
4) Device version (G3 or G4)
Windows 6.1?
5) How long it was since last hard reset (1 day,6 hours, etc..)
I never did a hard reset. how do i do it
6) Approx how many soft resets you already made (1-5, 5-10 10-15, etc...)
Soft refers to poking the reset button, would be more than 20 times after this issue
7) Approx how many shutdowns you already made (holding power button for 4+ seconds)
more than 10 times.
8) any other significant info you think will help:
My contacts are not saved syn with my com as i do not have windows outlook.
9) Do you have the HTC Homeplug today plugin enabled?
10) have you populated your PIM apps via pimbackup or via activesync?
11) Do you have the "HTC_default" today theme enabled?
yes.
for now, i cant boot up. the screen will hang at my wallpaper. i cant seem to press or click anything after that. My pin start up prompt does not apear too. please help =(
depressed ivy.
Sorry, but I'm pretty sure you need an app to use safe mode. You might need to loose your contacts, but don't give up... research and you might find an answer.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=The%20Safe%20Mode%20Bible
And if you've already tried booting without a sim and storage card, you might need to hard reset, which is easy enough after reading the wiki.
e.g. press both softkeys while resetting, or you could even flash a new rom via sd card by naming the .nbh file KAISIMG.nbh and putting it on your storage card root directory.
Read the wiki before you make any decisions and good luck, good news is your phone sounds like it's fine, just install a safe mode program next time.
Hi. I did research like wht you adviced, i managed to log into bootloader mode, i downloaded MTTY program and got my phone to the USB mode. I like to ask the following:
1) can i retrieve and save my contacts as i saved them all in my phone and none in my sim card?
2) Wht can i do next as I'm badly stuck at the HTC home page with only my wallpaper, i cant click on any buttons.
Thanks in advance to all.
I really hope that some GURUs here are able to help solve my terrible situation and i would really appreciate it. My contacts are all save in the phone and i need some help in retrieving it.
Thanks all.

At what exactly point does it freeze?
What is your radio version, it should appear after you turn on the device in red letters on the bottom right.
What is your SPL Version, you should be able to see it from the bootloader?
Dave
Hello friend. When I suggested research, I meant things like this...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2732337
I found this thread by clicking search in the top right to use google, and typed "save contacts" which if you've gone into MTTY research (be careful by the way) then you might be able to backup your data.
MY SPL : 3.29.0000
MY radio: 1.65.16.25
When i boot up, i suppose to have some password protect, to enter my pin before there is reception and stuff. For now, I can only see my wallpaper, the start button, contacts and calander buttons. However i cant touch on anything, it just simply hangs there.
SIM card and memory card are off. I tried SYNC, but it says cannot detect device.

By "SYNC" you mean active sync? Try an Actice sync re-install, maybe?
Sounds like this protect stuff is beggared.

i meant active sync, it says it cant detect my device. Is there anyway from MTTY, i cant retrieve my contacts?
All this actually happen after i installed .cab file the other day, and the installation was fine and i was prompt to restart. It hanged after that till date. sigh =( I'm desperate.
GURUs,
I cant get my device to go any further than hanging right at the wallpaper of HTC Home, the usb doenst recognize my device, so i cant enter or do any thing.
I just wish to retrieve my contacts now, and do a hard reset on my phone.
Thanks.
If you never saved your contacts from and to your sim card without any kind of backup from outlook or pim, etc. you might be ****e out of luck. Gone from a ****ty samsung to a equally ****ty razr, hermes, and now kaiser with the same sim...Always copy your contacts to the sim; or at least a Backup folder on your desktop or lap. flashing erases the main memory, which of course includes contacts. That's why we have a program called sim manager, to backup contacts everytime we erase our systems. Hope you find a workaround though, as a former Iphone owner, reinputting your contacts is a giant *****
sigh.. does tht means i'm so dead now? I did ever did a PPCPimBackup, but its stored in the phone memory too? any sort of help you can assist?

Possibly, I've tried to get hold of someone who might know, but it's looking grim.
Storage Card backups and Active Sync are the best way to backup.

locked out of my Samsung Galaxy S3 which doesn't recognize gmail password

Carrier: Verizon
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S3 4gLTE 32gb
Model Number: SCH-I535
OS: stock
My friend entered the pattern-swipe password too many times, which made my GS3 lock up and force me "To unlock, sign in with [my] Google account". So, I did that many times to no avail. I tried all 3 of my gmail accounts even though I know which one specifically that associated with the google play account as I had bought an application a few weeks back and found the receipt of that app in my main email. Next, I changed the passwords to all the accounts and tried them again. Then after that I changed all my passwords to strictly numerical passwords so my passwords had no letters in them as I thought perhaps my phone was auto-capitalizing the first letter of my password -- didn't work. I've turned my phone on and off multiple times, taken out the batter and sim card multiple times as well. Also, it's important to note that I attempted to log in with and without the domain name: "emailaddress" and "[email protected]" and that I assume the Wi-Fi is turned off due to the fact that manually turned it off since I was on a cruise at the time that was charging $23 per every half hour of internet... I also turned off the data inside the scroll down menu and then turned on airplane mode; however, I was able to turn off airplane mode via holding down my power button and clicking on the airplane mode button. I'm pretty sure that the data is on now, at least when I try to type in my password.
I called google: the woman told me to turn my phone on and off and to make sure I had the right password -- she was clueless
I talked to Samsung online: they told me that Verizon had unlock codes...
William: As you are unable to unlock the device with the Google account details , please contact the carrier for assistance
William: As the unlock codes are provided by the carrier
William: You can contact Verizon support at 1-888-466-4646.
I called Verizon and they said they can do a factory reset and don't have any such "unlock codes"
I've tried to access the phone with Samsung Kies, but it says that I need to unlock the phone first.
I tried accessing the phone through the my computer folder, but there's nothing inside the SCH-I535 folder.
I right clicked and looked at the properties of the SCH-I535 folder and there was no information provided (not even the file size of the harddrive).
I right clicked and tried to import movies and photos and I couldn't do that.
I tried having someone call me (I can receive calls) and quickly pressing the menu button to try to get into the phone -- that didn't work.
So yeah, I can't get into my phone.
I want to at least be able to retrieve my photos/videos from the family vacation I just went on. Is there a way to salvage them? (I didn't set up dropbox or any backup service for that matter) Does verizon backup assistant plus backup information on your phone without you having to set it up? Is the password that I need to supply the same one as my gmail password?
How can I fix this?
Someone save me.
not sure if doable, but I'd try booting into the recovery menu. It usually is done by holding a combination "volume-down + home +power" or "v-up+-home+_power". Once you get there, one of the options should be factory reset.

Wow! You've done everything. Possibly changing the password made the situation worse? It wasn't letting you in regardless. Wow... sucks about your pictures and videos... god damn thing. God damn friend.

If you're completely stock, factory reset from settings, privacy should get you back to the set up wizard or whatever its called. If rooted and custom recovery is installed, boot in to recovery and do a restore or data factory reset. Anything on your SD card should be safe.

Also, I should note that my goal here is to recover my pictures/videos. I do know that the factory reset is an option; however, that wouldn't allow me to retrieve my photos/videos as my 32g stock verizon galaxy s3 didn't come with an sd card, nor did I insert one, so all the pictures and videos are saved onto the harddrive.
Do you guys know if the harddrive is partitioned so that photos/videos are saved in the event of a factory reset?

When you connect it to your computer it should bring up a "Phone" drive, Inside that there should be a folder with all of your pictures and videos. Are you not seeing that at all?
And no, if you factory reset you will lose everything on the internal sdcard
Check your Google accounts. Every now and then, they get hacked or spammed and Google will lock them. Check the account online and perhaps re-set your password. If that doesn't work... you may be hosed.

There is a "phone" drive that pops up as "SCH-I535", and inside of this drive there are 0 items. When I look at the properties the only info it gives me are:
model name
manufacturer
firmware version
serious number
battery life percentage
Yeah, nothing really useful in there.
Thanks for the clarification on the factory reset; I have a feeling that's what I'll have to end up doing :[
can you odin CWM in then backup stuff through there?

Otherwise; I think you have to reset...

When I originally did my phone I used the rooted stock image image (root66) found here. The original non-rooted images are available in a different thread in the same forum.
Ok just to clarify a few things that have been mentioned in the thread:
If you don't have usb debugging enabled then your phone cannot communicate with your pc so ALWAYS enable that as soon as you get your phone even if you never plan on using it (just in case). Without usb debugging enabled you cannot use any of the backup functions in the S3 ToolKit.
You cannot access internal storage if you are locked out and cannot get past the lock screen for security reasons. If you do not have any security set then you can access internal storage by turning the phone on.
Performing a NAND backup in cwm will not back your data/media folder as it could potentially require a 16/32/64GB backup file if your whole internal storage was used up. For this reason you could not recover any data from internal storage using this method.
Performing a wipe in recovery will NOT format the data/media partition so you will not lose any data on there. I just tried it to make sure and the system is reset but everything on internal storage is still there. This was tested on a custom rom and using cwm recovery 6.0.1.0.
As you dont have usb debugging enabled then your only option to get the phone working again is to wipe from recovery. If it wipes your internal storage then I apologise but there is really nothing else you can do.
Mark.
Just in time, I think this may solve your problem:

Thank you so much for the help, good sir. Yeah, I made a big mistake not turning on usb debugging or setting up dropbox/google+/something of the sort. Though, I guess it's somewhat of a good thing that this happened since I was never interested in understanding how android works before. Now, I'm planning on playing around with it once I wipe it. Hopefully, it'll work. Anyway, thanks again

[Q] How To Connect One Plus As A External Drive To Pc And How To Recover Files

Hi all,
I know this has been said some where and all but i am trying to find a way . I am running cyanogen mod latest version 11 with latest OTA.. not into 12 and all. I am trying to connect mobile to laptop and make it recognize as a drive not as a portable player. I have tried various options like enabling usb debugging, and storage -> usb options and all nothing helped
everything shown it as a portable player. Now i will tell you my need of it, i Use Automatic call recorder for recording calls - not all only very important and precious ones. I should have learned most about their options and all.. everytime i call some one i stop the recording. But it was told that after 100 voice recordings the old ones will be deleted automatically and will be always 100 only at any time.. with all junk calls i have lost my precious recordings being replaced with new ones. When i recently found out that there is no option to recover those files, my next step is the data recovery..and there no good apps that can directly run on mobile and recover..so the next best option is to connect the mobile to laptop and make it as a drive and try to recover files..
Please tell me an option to make this happen.to connect oneplusone mobile to laptop and make it as external hard drive..and good data recovery software.. i really in need of those recordings. .some precious moments in my life..
Thanks...
I have no experience with call recordings, but are the recordings saved in a specific folder and a specific file type ? If so maybe use a backup app/program to backup those files everyday and sync them to cloud storage automatically ?
thanks and appreciate your reply.. the files are already lost.. i am taking care of current recordings..but wanted to get the files already deleted..
If you're still writing data to the internal storage you're gonna find it very hard to recover any deleted data, because it's overwriting those blocks. When attempting to recover lost data you need to completely cease any writing to the drive/card.

Maybe this thread will help:

Alternatively, Dr. Fone may be compatible with your device and may work--there is a trial offer, but I don't know details.

Very simple. Use any OTG cable and insert there a memory card reader or pen drive even a external hard disc. I always connect my ONE PLUS ONE to my 1TB seagate backup plus hard drive with OTG cable for data transfer.
I think just plug in then the PC will have a "phone" logo on the drive. Or am I missing something. If not thing happened, go to setting---> stroage--->"menu"--->USB Computer connection
For recovering Flash Drive data, I think that is very hard. Good luck.

[Help] Samsung Galaxy S7(SM-G930V) Data Recovery without USB debugging

Hello. My mother has recently found her old Samsung Galaxy S7 and doesn't remember the pin. She has some very important photos (Baby Pictures, ETC) on the phone and needs to get them somehow. She has never turned on any development options or USB Debugging. I don't really know what else to post here because this is my first post. I was told by a friend that this forum could help

The only way to unlock without wiping data is to use Android Device Manager but you have to know the Google account and password the phone was using.
You can use Google DM on a pc to do this. Your phone must be charged and turned on with an active SIM.
If this does not work, a Samsung repair centre can unlock the device if you have proof of purchase. There is no way to unlock AND save your data if both the methods are not available to you.
You can as a last resort reset the device to use again but all data will be lost.
Also things to check first.
1. Often pictures are stored on the SD card in the phone, remove the card put it into an sd adapter or another phone and see if the pictures are stored there in the DCIM folder
2. Pin numbers are often dates of birthdays or bank card pin numbers etc ask your mum if this is the case it might jog her memory.

He didn't have it backed up in google or anything. I have his broken phone here. CAnt I just connect his phone to my computer and somehow retrieve his contacts off of it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

No, you have to be able to unlock the screen in order for PC to connect to the device. Your screen is broken which means you can't unlock the screen. If they did not have anything backed up to Google then I'm pretty sure they also did not have USB debugging enabled. Between the screen being broken and USB debugging not being enabled, you are pretty much screwed with no way to retrieve anything from the device.
This is what happens when one takes things for granted or never considers that things can easily go wrong and overlooks the necessity of backing up important data to avoid the situation they are currently in.
Accept your losses and consider it a learning experience. In the future, make certain to back up important data.
Hi, do you mean your computer can detect your friend's phone via USB cable? If yes, try Coolmuster Android Backup Manager. Its free backup function can help you access to contacts on the phone and export them to the computer via USB cable. It's easy and safe. You just need to enable USB debugging on the phone. About the details, please search online. Hope this will be your help.
You may not able to get back contacts if you don't have a backup on Google. You can check the local backup. If you have taken local backup then, you can bring back his contacts.
