Rooting from GB - Thunderbolt General

I had problems with my TB using GB roms so I returned to stock using the leaked GB from HTC. The problems went away and I'm ready to reroot. My question is this. Must I downgrade the radio as is listed in the rooting procedure? If so, will it cause any problems?

Root 1.5 or Upgrade to 2.1 Release Then Root?

So I've rooted my phone already, I had updated to the .6 Sprint release and went back to .5 and used that method. My wife's Hero is still on 1.5. I'd like to be able to back up all of her apps before flashing a custom ROM.
My question, is there any drawback to rooting from 1.5 and then installing a custom ROM like Regaw's, or Fresh, or Nfinite's, or CM6? Am I able to do this without first running the .5 RUU? Will I need to manually upgrade the radio if I do this?
Sorry for all the questions, I know how to find all of these root methods, but not sure what method is best to make sure I get everything updated and running properly.
Thanks!

You do not need to ruu at all unless you have to take your phone in for service under warranty.
No problems at all. Once you are rooted and have recovery installed you can flash away. Just remember to wipe EVERYTHING in between flashings. It will save u a ton of annoyances.
My opinion is go straight to CM6 it is amazingly fast and stable. Just in case you dont know the link to the IRC channel for CM6 here it is: http://webchat.bikcmp.com:9090/?channels=hero-cdma
Welcome to the HERO and be careful. Flashing is VERY addictive.

[Q] Got a few questions about gtg465x ultimate Unbrick and flashing new roms

To catch you up on what I'm running
I just flashed a backup of infused 2.1.0 but i had been running infused 2.2.3. Ive been experimenting to see why I'm having certain problems with my roms that i don't believe existed when I originally started use the infused roms.*
However my first question is will gtg465x ultimate Unbricker completely take my phone back to stock out of box state and unroot it?* I ask because when I first flashed a custom rom I didn't properly make a back up of my stock configuration. So basically I'm trying to find out if that matters or will they Unbricker solve that problem?
Next I have some questions about flashing new roms (not updating them). When I first flashed the infused rom it converted my partitions to something else (I think that's the voodoo lagfix) but does this mean anything or will other roms need to be dealt with differently like by wiping the data and cache?
Oh and also would the kernel I'm running possibly be creating the problems in experiencing with my roms?
If you need anymore info in order to try and answer something just let me know.
Thanks guys
Gtg's Ultimate Unbrick will return your phone to stock and unroot your phone.

2.3.6 Root questions/AOSP 2.3.x?

I have two questions...
1. I had rooted my A2 when it was 2.3.5 and deleted a few apps. When the OTA update to 2.3.6 rolled around, I couldn't update because ATT is a grouch. Anyway, to solve that problem, I had to flash stock 2.3.5 back onto the phone removing root access and everything. I then proceeded to update to 2.3.6 which is fine. that's running stock as I type this. My question is, if I root it again on 2.3.6 (I know it's there...) and I freeze apps, when another OTA update rolls around, will I be able to update again? I don't want to have to flash it back to 2.3.6...(can I even do that yet?) so any help here would be appreciated.
2. I was out and about, and was looking at one of my friend's phones. She has this HTC HD2 running Android 2.3.3 AOSP. She uses ADWLauncher, etc etc. This is a Windows Phone, originally. That got me thinking...is there a AOSP version of Gingerbread for my A2? Without Blur? I'm kinda scared to do anything to it, because I want to be able to get ICS come July. Any tips here would help.
Sorry for not using the searchbar, I was just having trouble finding this info. Thanks guys!
1. Yes. Freezing apps / removing bloat as root will almost definitely keep you from the any OTA. Its the nature of the beast. You can always return to stock and apply the updates later. Also, any major update like ICS will produce a lot of posts here about how to update from an altered rom.
2. There is development work on getting CM7 to work on our phone. Currently the only released ROM that I am aware of is lfaber06's ROM

When a major update such as ICS is released, there will be alternate ways to install such as through bootstrap. Hopefully we'll find a leaked version of ICS before that, and pull the radio get CM9 working
Okay. So I'm planning on rooting it...now...but when I flashed 2.3.5 from the fxz someone provided, it said that once you updated to 2.3.6 you could never go back...but...
I'll try it.
What's bootstrap? I've heard about it and no one has been able to dumb it down for me...could anyone do that?
You can flash the FXZ after the update. It just requires a bit of modification and care. You might want to read the noob thread. It has lots of useful info.
Bootstrap is a way to backup, restore, and flash zips before android boots.
I just rooted the 2.3.6 it's running wonderfully.
Should I install the ibfaber deoxed rom? I mean I know I can do it per instructions but is it worth it?
It depends on what you want to do. If you want to apply any themes you will need to be running the deoxed rom. He also has a supercharged rom that has a lot more customization.

[Q] Just Flashed my Sensation with ICS 4.0 Dutch

But is it now too late to return to Gingerbread original.Because i cant find anything on the HTC site directing to firmware updates.
And another question is it still possible to root your sensation when you have flashed to ICS 4.0
If you flash it the fully official way, assuming you didn't unlock bootloader and get S-Off: Not possible through normal means. Only if you can get S-Off there are some risky tricks to downgrade which I personally wouldn't prefer. About rooting a fully stock ICS. According to some, the most recent SuperUser versions are working.
How does the stock version feels in comparison to GB?
It just feels smother, I did had to wait for it to settle down but now its working fine.
being on a rooted phone i didn't want to wait and do all sorts of changes to get the ota working so i flashed ardh. It's my first custom rom untill now i have been using stock roms.
Glad to hear it's an improvement.

[Q] Semi-noob question about returning to stock.

I did a search and couldnt find the answer to this.
I have a TMOUS Sensation 4G, i went ahead and did s-off, rooted, and installed an ics rom. I loved the rom, but decided to go back to stock due to radio issues i just couldn't get figured out with multiple attempts. So, i'm back to current stock firmware and am un-rooted. The only thing i haven't done is gone back to s-on. Does anyone no if that will effect me getting the OTA to ICS when released?
Thanks for the help!
No being S-off will not keep you from getting the OTA update when it gets pushed. You just have to be running the 1.50 software and have the stock recovery.
Check out this thread and follow the instructions in order to install the ICS OTA.
