Flashing Radio to Android revolution ROM - HTC Sensation

Hi everyone. I'm quite nervous about flashing a radio as i know it can brick the device with a small mistake. I've read up on it quite abit, but i was wondering if people could answer a few small questions so that i wont make any mistakes!
1. Does a radio need to be flashed before/after a new ROM is installed? OR is it okay to flash at any time?
2. I don't quite understand the difference between Radio_10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2 and a PBLAHBLAH.Img File?? Which one should i use/put on SD Card..?
3. Do i need Radio S-Off... i have normal S-off + root ... and im running android revolution 3.6.0 =] ( if i do, how do i get radio S-off? )
4. Chances of bricking my phone even if everything is done correctly?
5. Thank you v.much for your time + help

Hi,
1.Doesn't matter
2.Radio_10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2 is flashed from PC/laptop and is found on the [OP](follow the read me).
PG58IMG.zip is flashed from sd card
3.If you have S-OFF ,you have RADIO S-OFF
4.There is always a chance. However, this is kept to a minimum,if you follow the instructions carefully and to the letter.
5.You're welcome.

Thanks v.much guys. I'll give it a go tomorrow and let you know the results!

Managed to flash radio successfully. Thanks v.much for the help!!

I was curious about this as well because I flashed ARHD 3.6 but never did the radio. My phone has been fine...
So is there a radio that gets flashed in the Rom?

Upon flashing the new version I almost missed it, but yes there is an updated radio to flash. I highly recommend it, I saw a significant increase in data transfer, coincidence or not, always good to keep the ROM with the correct radio installed.

Hi,
No radio gets flashed when you install a new ROM.
That is why they are posted separately.
I strongly recommend flashing 10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2 radio
--- Using a "non matched" radio could have a negative effect on performance, battery life & signal strength ---
Check the [OP] of the ARHD 3.6.0 ROM

Interesting. And I thought I was learning...So I'm using the same radio that I had before Mike's ARHD?

Indeed ,you are.
You can check it if you want.

Question: Does Mike's recommended radio for Android revolution 3.6.0 work well for T-mobile USA?
Thanks

Confirmation
I was just reading through this thread. can someone please confirm my steps to flash radio. thanks.
I rooted and unlocked the bootloader. ARHD installed a couple of days ago.
so what i did so far was download the file
"Radio_10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2 from the ARHD"
I unzipped it
then i read the "READ ME" file
I also md5checksum the file as well.
so do i follow the instructions in the file?
1. Connect your phone into a PC, and make sure that USB Debugging is enabled
2. Click "Start here". A black command prompt window will open
3. Type: "adb reboot bootloader"
4. Once your phone is in bootloader (white screen with text), type "fastboot flash radio radio.img"
5. When the flashing completes, type "fastboot reboot"
EXACTLY as it is stated above word for word?
reason im asking is because i have been reading about flashing radio through
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178143
and it says something about a ZIP file? please verify. thank you so much.
so which is the correct method because mikes sounds so much easier. i cant find any zip files either. thanks

That is the correct steps if using the radio from Mike's ARHD site. The other link to the radio page refers to using the PG58IMG.zip file on the root of your SD card and then booting into bootloader. The bootloader will read this file automatically and prompt you to apply update using the volume rocker. This is the method I have always used without issue. Just remember to remove the PG58IMG.zip file from the root of the SD card before trying to enter bootloader again after flashing or you will never get past that part.
If you want to use the fastboot method then use the radio from Mike's ARHD page, and if you want to use the PG58IMG method you will need to download the radio you want to flash from the radio page. Good luck and happy flashing

hi
i have installed s-off and mikes 3.6 rom and all is working fine, i have tried to update the radio using the instructions.
i am using win 7 and using cmd prompt as administrator
when i type 'adb reboot bootloader' the phone reboots to bootloader screen but when i type the command to flash the radio it just sits there saying 'waiting for device' i have to ctrl c it to stop. The radio firmware stays the same on the phone and it reboots fine. I have enabled usb debugging.
Is this a win 7 issue or something else ?
cheers

Hi,
I think you select charge for radio installation.

thanks i will give it a try. i think i have allready tried charge only and mount as a disk drive. i just tried htc sync and it didnt work. maybe a driver problem, i am downloading latest version and will see if it works. I did read another post somewhere that said the windows drivers had to be correct to use adb
cheers

solved
i downloaded and installed the new htc sync, It works fine now. disconnected it and set to charge only. when i ran the radio program the installing drivers message came up, i think it was installing the adb driver. There were more messages from the cmd prompt which meant at least it was talking, downloaded new radio and it completed successfully. phone rebooted no problem. Unless its my imagination it seems faster on internet now
cheers

[Q] How to ENG S-OFF HTC Sensation?

I have my Sensation SHIP S-OFF and I have the new Sensation XE 3.6.2 ROM running on it, I need to flash a radio that requires ENG S-off but I haven't found any guides to do that yet. I have found plenty for other HTC phones however I dont want to just try that being as ENG S-off is a sensitive process. Any help would be greatly appreciated
You can flash the radio using adb or via bootloader. Just search for it, you should find many explanations.
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using xda premium
The instructions I have are as follows, do I need so get radio and eng s off? Sorry, I just want to be sure.
How to flash a radio
This guide is for Windows users only! Your phone must be ENG S-OFF. Radio S-OFF is also highly recommended.
Requirements:
- HTC Sync
- A Windows PC
1. Connect your phone into a PC, and make sure that USB Debugging is enabled
2. Click "Start here". A black command prompt window will open
3. Type: "adb reboot bootloader"
4. Once your phone is in bootloader (white screen with text), type "fastboot flash radio radio.img"
5. When the flashing completes, type "fastboot reboot"
6. Done. Enjoy!
Guys, just because he has s-off, doesn't mean all the fastboot commands work.
Op: you need to find where to dl the eng-hboot, and package it into a PG58***.zip (I can't remember the actual file name), put it on the sdcard, and boot into bootloader mode.
Some Google searching will get you what you need though. Or you could use revolutionary to put a patched hboot with working fastboot (same end result).

If you check out this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193033
And look at method 2 it gives instructions and a download link for the eng s-off hboot
I hope this helps

Thanks guys! I have one last question. I have noticed that there is 3 separate ways to flash a radio, 1 of which including the PG58IMG.ZIP on command prompt, 1 telling me just go to command prompt and type in manually to push the radio file itself, and 1 telling me to run it from bootloader but NOT ClockworkMod Recovery. Can anyone clear this up for me?
try not to use the zip file method instead use fastboot commands
ZIP method is the easiest and less risky, takes 2 seconds

If I package it into a .zip file, what all would I package in there? Just the radio.IMG? and wouldn't that also change the checksum?
The file I have is in a .rar inside is a bunch of instructions and data along with he radio.IMG file.
I got ENG-S off now. Thanks!
Edit- Eddy I actually am trying to flash the radio you are currently using. I double checked the exact number to verify, could you tell me what you did to flash it?
Get the radio you want from the Radio thread, already in the correct format to flash via HBOOT
Done and done! Thanks so much everyone!

Trouble flashing ICS

I flashed RCMix ICE v1.1 a few days ago and now I am trying to flash another ICS rom today. When I try to boot into hboot, to shows "*** LOCKED ****" on the top of the screen and also shows "Model ID incorrect"
The phone is s-off
Hboot 1.20
Radio 10.14.9035.01_M
eMMC-boot
Won't let me do anything tho.

As far as I know, your hboot version cannot be 1.20 when you've "revolutionary s-off'ed" (is this correct?)
Have you allready tried re-s-off'ing?

hboot 1.20 doesn't remove s-off, and hboot 1.20 can't be s-offed
RCMix ICE v1.1 doesn't have hboot 1.20 so you have obviously flashed a RUU or the new firmware did you install busybox, su, recovery, etc as required if you flashed a RUU no root no flashing new roms

Well i'm having issues too after flashing the firmware inc the new radio for ics roms. I can't use fastboot anymore (yes this was know), but i also can't go back to older hboot's either.
i'm getting cid errors while updating pb images. I have only 1 partition. Never had this error before with my sdcard.
This came after flashing hboot 1.20.
Any ideas to revert back to older hboot's ? RUU.exe files won't work anymore, can't flash other radio's etc...
Stuck on this for now...
Advise is very welcome.

[Q] hboot 1.23 and says s-off but locked

So i was in the middle of following the steps in the s-off and perma root thread and i ran into a problem. Hope someone here is nice enough to help me out.
So i ran revolutionary and everything went smooth. I already had the clockwork mod zip in the root of my sd card so i just rebooted the phone into hboot. When i went into hboot it detected the pg58img file and ran it, it prompted me if i wanted to update and so i did. It rebooted the phone and then i went back into hboot. The hboot said it was 1.23 and said Locked instead of Revolutionary as it displayed previously.
When i try to run the pg58 file in hboot an error occurs and said it is not compatible and only asks me to power off. So now at this moment it displays 1.23 version of hboot and s-off and says locked.
What can i do after this point? Any help i can get would be fantastic, thanks.
You're still good.
You're locked out of some of the most advanced fastboot commands. But that's it.
You still have S-Off. ADB will still work. You can flash ROM's. Etc etc etc....
It's a known problem. But it's not really a problem.
It's not like you divided by zero and destroyed the fabric of the universe or anything.
This is a noob question but how would i install clockwork recovery? I thought i would try dl from market but it said i didnt have root permission(obviously)
Is there a thread that has a solution to my issue or maybe you can quickly guide me out of this? lol Just kind of confused as to what i should do next lol.
Look in the development section for a thread called guide to s-off.
Skip the s-off part since you've done that.
Go right to the part about installing recovery. Following the directions. It's incredibly easy. It'll take about 3 minutes.
Once you have clcokwork recovery you can flash custom ROMs. You don't actually have to root the stock ROM. (Though you should make a backup of it just for kicks. You can do it all through clockwork recovery)
Yea I tried it multiple times already. I have the pg58 file in the root of the sd and when i go to the hboot it says
"Model ID incorrect!
Update Fail!
Press <POWER> to reboot."
Thats the only option it gives me so i am not able to install clockwork recovery.
Do you have SuperCID?
no i do not, would that fix the issue? i thought that is just for installing any rom on the device. My issue is that i cant get recovery to work.
I would think that is the next step after i run the perma root zip.

It should. Follow the SuperCID instructions here. Then update your firmware via the bootloader with this package that rmk made. It includes ClockworkMod Recovery.

He doesn't have use of Fastboot commands. I am pretty sure they are needed for super CID. Let me check.
He can't super CID as Fastboot commands are used.
Have you tried to run the correct RUU.exe? I think that would change back your h boot. There are zips in the development section you can use to downgrade but you may need super CID to use them.

Okay, I am not near a pc atm so I cannot look where they are located, if you have the adb tools you also need another program called Net Framework installed on your pc.
Make sure your phone is powered onvand usb debugging checked when plugged into pc. I find it easiest to hold the mouse over the adb tools folder, press alt & ctrl keys and right click on the mouse and choose open command window here. Now type the command "adb devices".
Good luck.

First boot can take 10 minutes to load as the Davilk cache is being recreated. Also, did you perform a full wipe first and check the Md5 checksums, make sure your downloaded ROM is not corrupt.

flashing radio.

hey there. Just another noob question:
How can I find out what radio am I using? Can I flash the PG zip archive in recovery just like I flash the kernel? If so, do I always need to do that when I install roms? Is the radio included in the rom? I think of it as like firmware or recovery, you have to flash the lastest when it was released and that's about it, it does not get wiped when you go to format all parititions, right?
How about firmware? Can I flash this too in recovery? Thx.
To flash firmware you place the pg58img file at the root of sd card , then you boot into bootloader by pulling battery putting battery back in press volume and power at the same time, it will recognise the update and ask to continue press power for yes, let it update them REMOVE the pg58img file from your card or it will continuously try to update the file! I remove mine by pulling the sd card and put in a card reader and delete the file. Delete it how ever you want just make sure you delete it ok. Then your done. That's how you install firmware. Hope I helped.

Hi,
To check radio, go to:
Settings/ about phone/ software information/ more/ baseband version.
Radio gets installed with the firmware.
It does not need to be flashed with every ROM.
Yes, it gets flashed in recovery.
It does not get wiped when you wipe the partitions.
Be very careful when flashing radio or firmware.
Always check the md5 checksum
If you flash the wrong one, or a bad one, it will brick your phone.
So i can flash firmware in 4ext right? If it is wrong... should i get any warning message? Thx

Hi,
Yes, you can.
What firmware do you have, and what firmware do you want to flash?
Sent telepathically from my pyramid
Hi to flash firmware I usually put the firmware on the root of my sd card and flash from bootloader by pulling battery putting battery back in, pressing volume and power at the same time, the device will recognise the update and ask to continue, press power for yes. Once it's updated don't forget to REMOVE the pg58img file from the sd card or it will continue to try to update over and over . So when its finished just delete the file of your sd card. I use a card reader to do this. I just pop out my sd put into card reader and plug into computer and delete the file then put card back into device . But if you don't have a card reader its ok just delete the file however you can. Then your good to go. Hope this helps some . This is how I do my firmware. Best wishes.

Do I have to be S-OFF to flash these two updates? I'm htcdev unlocked but S-ON and I don't want the wire trick s-off.
tried flashing radio in recovery, by installing the PG zip file but got installation aborted.

yep for radio and hboot change you require SOFF ..when you are SON but HTC-DEV unlocked ..you can only change roms and recovery ..you cant modify firmware
so that's why it would not work... i'll stick with s-on for now since 3.32 works fine for me for all roms... ill get soff when most roms will reqire newer firmware... i dint really wanna do wire trick to get full root.. is there another way of getting this on 1.27 hboot? Thx ganesh..

Hboot radio
Rather than start a new thread I thought I would just expand this one.
My query is:
Bootloader on my phone is showing
HBOOT 1.27.1100
RADIO 11.24A.3504.31_M
(Rev S-OFF) got this from flashing universal 3.33 by mike
I wanted to know is this the latest radio I need for jellybean roms? I am having the Wi-F- turning on issues
I see some of them mention Radio_11.76A? Is this the full name for the radio above?
I have pushed this through Fastboot ADB so am I on the right one?
I have also pushed the Boot.img from each rom and updated to Faux latest kernels but none of this seems to solve the wifi issues

As long as the radio starts with 11 (11.24A, 11.76A etc) it is ICS compatible
I would still update to the latest radio (11.76A) available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1202867
And then do a full wipe of all partitions through 4EXT (don't use superwipe, causes problems) and reinstall ARHD.

he is having 11.76A Radio only ..in bootloader only the last part of the radio name is shown ..(for full name of RADIO ..check the Radio/Ril thread you've linked )
in settings ->about phone ->software info->baseband ..complete radio name will be shown (this path is for sense roms ..and it might be same for AOSP/CM9/CM10 roms too i think)

[Q] Problem with OrDroid 9 ROM frozen on HTC Sensation Logo - Tricky situation!

Hi all,
I have flashed the OrDroid V9.0 ROM to my Sensation through CWM, however, it is stuck on the HTC Sensation logo...
The device is S-ON, unlocked bootloader, running CWM 5.8.0.9. It was previously updated to ICS using an official method - so HBOOT 1.27.000. Could the issue be due to it being S-ON still?
I have tried reinstalling the ROM 3 times but no luck. I have then tried to follow the steps in this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1759803&page=2) to flash 4EXT over CWM (if that is the correct terminology), however, both of these commands:
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Just yield a <waiting for device> message.
HTC drivers are installed; HTC sync is not installed and the line:
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Did work before installing CWM. The PC doesn't make any noises or seem to detect the phone at all when it is plugged in...
I tried copying a "recovery.zip" file containing the *.img file above and using the "install from sdcard" option in CWM, however, no luck at all - didn't really expect that to work though!
Any help much appreciated
Many thanks,
Kim
Additional Info
Just to add that when I launch recovery (and Sensation boots into CWM), and then plug it into the computer, Windows detects an "MTP USB Device" - this driver does not install correctly. I never noticed this before CWM was installed. Also the following:
Code:
adb devices
Does not list any attached devices.
Thanks,
Kim
you have to open the command window where adb and fastboot files are located?
did you open it there?

Since your phone is S-ON, you should flash 4EXT touch recovery & use smartflash.

It is on topic. Ordroid has been replaced by Viper S. The OP should try flashing Viper S instead of a ROM that is outdated and no longer supported by the dev.
Sent from my HTC Sensation using xda app-developers app
true. op should know ordroid is no longer supported by development and it will not be receiving any updates at all. it is exactly how it will always be. it is considered finished. also the same developer has moved to team venom with viper rom. viper is supported and continues with development. op may want to try viper. one of the same developers as ordroid. hope this is helpful. back to topic, any rom flashed will require smart flash enabled due to the fact your s on, not s off. you can do this in 4ext. recovery as above post said. read the link that was provided. then you should understand how to do this with any rom you choose. best wishes to you

Thanks for the advice. I have installed 4EXT recovery and am now downloading ViperS 1.4.0. Will post an update when this completes

Says who? Just because it's outdated doesn't mean people don't want to use it.
And no, ViperS is a whole team's not one person's ROM. Team Venom replaced Pkmn ROMs not Ordroid or any other.
The issue OP is facing is flashing ROMs with S-ON, HTC Dev unlocked bootloader. It is in no way ROM related.
So, posting here saying that the ROM is outdated has very little to do with the issue at hand.
But hey, it's an open forum, I only made a request you're free to post as you choose to.
That's about the most I'm going to say
