Is Galaxy S2 GPS Navigation worthy?
Recently, I owned a Samsung Jack, Samsung, Captivate, and Samsung Infuse. Here's how I rate their GPS:
Jack - 8/10 - Navigation worthy
Infuse - 5/10 - Works unreliably, need to carry a 2nd GPS as backup. Infuse gets a lock in 10-15 seconds, but has a mind of it's own when it comes to tracking.
Captivate - 2/10 - Good for checking what town you are in...nothing more.
So, how's the GPS on Galaxy S2 in comparison? Do you feel comfortable taking long trips without feeling the need to carry backup GPS like Garmin/Tom-Tom?
Thanks in advance.
Why not post this in the correct forum? This is like going to the myTouch 4g section and asking why the Infuse has a bad GPS.

Reference. I'm hoping to find someone who has had both infuse and s2 and can compare the GPS on both the phones.
The Big infuse Comparison Thread has post side by side with both devices.....i would post this there.
Its in the General section stickied at the top

I see alot of question from n1 users asking if the upgrade from n1 is a good choice. I also see alot comparison to the iPhone 4 and Nexus one. How come I don't see any comparison to the HTC Evo? Is the galaxy s not in the same level for comparison. I thing the galaxy is much better then the Evo. Lighter, brighter and faster. I mean running on eclair. I know now they had the froyo update. But I think once galaxy s gets froyo, this thing will fly. Even the just announced HTC desire HD/ace, will not compared to the galaxy s. Am I wrong for thinking this way? I just think galaxy s is a great android device. Then again just my thought. What you guys think.

Probably because the Evo is a CDMA phone and can't be used on ATT. Also, Sprint hasn't released their Galaxy S variant, so those guys don't have anything to compare yet!
This thing, with the speed fix, utterly kills anything else on the market.
The N1 got about a 2x speed boost just from Froyo, so I'd expect a speed fix PLUS Froyo on this Galaxy S will be unstoppable.
Friend of mine has the Evo. It's high end along with the Droid X, etc... But the Galaxy S is just "the best" and the Evo can't top it.
a "non-quantitative" comparison - a buddy came over yesterday and had his Evo 4G with him - and asked to play with the vibrant
when he first saw the display (i set up that live "waves" wallpaper), his jaw dropped - then i had him hit the avatar movie, for the hey of it - jaw stayed in the lowered position
he knew about the GPS problem we've been dealing with, but when i said -'now you know why i've been hoping / holding out for a fix to the gps problem", he understood
I know he left here weighing the cost of a changeout to Epic 4G when it hits spring
there's no comparison on display, none - and the speed ( i don't have a ton of apps installed so there's no lag) -
the UI, ie TouchWiz or whatever it's called, that's up in the air still but we'll see what 2.2 does

LOL, I did the same thing with Avatar (loaded myself on the Captivate) to an iPhone user the other day.
The problem with the Epic 4G is it'll be bigger, heavier, bulkier than the other candybar variants.
I also didn't really notice much lag but I must say in-app performance is vastly improved with an EASY PIE lag fix that takes you two minutes (assuming you've got ADB working, etc). Push 3 files to it, then run 1 of them, reboot, done.

The better comparison would be the Evo vs The Samsung Epic, since these are both CDMA phones that run on Sprints network. But yes, I agree the Galaxy S line of phones are the cream of the crop hardware wise and don't get the attention like HTC or Apple devices.
With the exception for one's sotrware/ui preference, there is no comparison with the hardware. The Galaxy S is simply better.
This is just an observation but I really wish I had waited till now and just got a vibrant, unlocked it and could use it on AT&T's network and still get 3G.
There is so much more development work going on over in the Vibrant forum.
But I do think the Captivate is a slightly better looking phone than the Vibrant.
you mad son
just wait for that aosp from hansmrtn

You know, I browse the Dev section on the Vibrant forums sometimes, and I just really don't see all the dev action that the Vibrant has and Captivate does not. It seems pretty similar (perhaps slight edge to Vibrant) with many mods and hacks being ported back and forth between the two phones.
Also, the Captivate is MUCH sexier than the Vibrant. It's one sleek piece of hardware.

We are getting our share of dev. I wonder if people associate the vibrant getting cyanogen as us not getting the love?
Sweet life
what is the difference i could get 1 galaxy s vibrant i9000 with bell and captivate with rogers coming soon. i wana know what the difference really is ? and how is the in-call volume ? and battery life? please share
Both exactly the same but i think the captivate looks much better and feels better in your hand
How are they both the same? Wouldn't the Bell Captivate be just like the Att Captivate without the FFC?

Better development right now with the galaxy s vibrant (more devs) but captivate will catch up. I agree the cap is a nicer style, I've come to love the design of it.

If I had to chose, I'd go with a Bell i9000m over a Rogers Captivate. But before I walked out of the store, I would make damn sure that the three button combos work on the phone I am getting. Once you have that hardware, you can go home and play with Froyo or the most polished version of Eclair. If you don't like Bell service, no worries, the i9000m supports all of the Rogers 3G bands, you can't say that about the AT&T Captivate, and probably not its Rogers twin brother. The Captivate looks a touch nicer to me and is built a tad better with no bulge in the back, and a metal battery cover, but the i9000m is a very sleek phone in its own right as well, so the difference is quite minimal. And what you give up in looks and build quality, you get back tenfold in availability of accessories due to the use of a standard form factor.
id go with the Galaxy S i9000

The i9000 also has FM Radio that seems to operate, miss not having that on the i897.
Sorry if this is not the right place.
My N1 just died on me and am doing an upgrade through Rogers. My choices are the Galaxy S Infuse 4G and the Galaxy S II 4G.
Obviously the S2 has more power but the Infuse is pretty good (I have it now and I like it (but I can still return it for the S2)).
Since I am on the fence, I figured the deciding factor might just be which one the devs are heading to ... I was spoiled with the support the N1 got. My guess would be the S2 but I'd like to hear other opinions.
Up until now I've always gone HTC and have not been watching the Samsung discussions.

Hello to All !!!
First post ever over here ! Thanks for this is a fantastic community, and many, including me, have learned from all the great info here !!! (Own an Asus Transformer !).
Currently with iPhone 4 jailbrokened AT&T (easy on the tomatoes...), but thinking about getting an Android phone. I have read multiple threads, and articles...seems to me that the SGSII is the current "killer" phone out there. But maybe the Galaxy Nexus is almost there.
Also, I have found a nice, altougth rather short, thread about a classification of phones according to their antenna and reception, and it seems that the Moto Milestone XT720 is the best out there.
So, in short: Which phone would you guys recommend, either from one of these in my post, or something else, and why?
Cheers,
CG.
If you must go android, get the razr.
SGS2
Don't go with Razr. Go with Samsung Galaxy S II.
Galaxy S 2 for speed (guts)
Galaxy S II LTE for speed (Network)
Galaxy Nexus for screen and speed (updates)
What is more important to you the guys, the network speed or updates and a beautiful screen
none of the above
wait until June to get the latest and greatest
along the lines of HTC quad core Edge
Galasy Note, for style and everything else
