[Q] No vibration when i get a message - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
From 4 days my Nexus S has a problem with the vibration on I get a message. Even if my phone is on "Loud" profile or at "Silenced" it doesn't vibrate. I look at settings and put it on "always vibrate" and I did the same thing from the message settings. Nothing...and it's very annoying.
What can I do? Anywone has this problem?
Thx!!!

Try clearing messaging app cache?

do you have the notification in the status bar? Cause i don't have any vibration either, and no notification at all. And i tried the app cache reset, didn't change a thing for me.

I thought about that, but i'd do that as a last resort, because i dont want to delete everything. I was hoping there might be something i can do without rebooting.
Thanks anyway

He said reboot, ie simply try turn ing the phone on and then off or select restart from the power button (by a long press), neither of which loose any data.
Not full reset- which wipes phone back to original state.

Go to "Settings > Display > Notification flash" and see which items are ticked.
On mine, I have ticks against "Missed call", SMS/MMS and Email, but there are also entries there for voice mail, reminders and alarms.
Maybe you need to update/sync your google/gmail settings to clear an email notification?
What notifications are shown in the status bar drop-down?

That was the first thing i did, it does get rid of the light however it starts flashing again after a few hours so i dont want to keep restarting my phone. I was hoping there was a permanant method. Thanks anyway.

No notifications are shown in the drop down bar but yet it flashes and thats what i dont understand. Because the light flashes when there is no visible notification i.e. txt or email.
I shall try your method and untick some of the notifications i dont need and maybe that should sort things out. Thanks.

Text Message Notification Problem

Just curious if this is a problem for just me or if anyone else has noticed it as well (Sense problem, maybe?)
When I have a text notification in my drop down panel, I select it, and nothing happens. The notification panel disappears (which you'd expect to happen when selecting it) but my SMS app never opens.
Anyone else? or am I alone?

Are you using stock sms app? You are dragging the app down to the ring right?

Stock app, yes - but not talking about from the lock screen. Just in general.
SMS comes in, alert is in my notification panel, I select it, and the app doesn't actually open.

Could you accidentally be "swipe to clear"ing it?

Nope. the notification stays. SMS comes in, notification pops up, I select it, notification panel goes away, but I'm still in the same app (or homescreen etc).that I was in prior to attempting to open the notification.
SMS app loads fine from homescreen shortcut, but rarely opens from the notification panel.
Have not seen that problem, but have had problems with not receiving notifications every time I receive a message. Perhaps the problems are related? Out of curiosity, have you noticed if the problem happens more often when the phone is charging?
Don't know yet if the update solved the problem...

Well, I rooted and installed LeeDroid, so my problem has disappeared.
Good luck!
I'm still on stock and rooted and I know exactly what youre talking about.

I almost never get a notification when I receive a text. No sound, vibration, no little number on the icon. It seems to not want to notify me when I am using the phone.

Probably a daft question, but have you tried changing the settings from within the Messages app (Open the app, then Settings > Notifications)? These are different from the settings in the Phone Sound settings menu.

[Q] Messaging problem?

The problem is notifications aren't showing up unless I open the messaging app then the notification in the status bar comes up. What is the problem? I went in settings to make sure the notification box was checked and everything. How do I fix this? The only way the notifications show up is if I restart the phone.
Oh and also it doesn't vibrate either even tho my phones on vibrate
Played around with it and found out all I had to do was force stop the messaging app. Now it works perfect.

Request: SM2 notification app allowing dismissal of notifications on phone

I have tested watchit, wristn etc but none so far have the possibility to dismiss notifications on phone. Ie when I have read a notification on SM2 I don't want to have to clear it manually from the phone afterward instead a swipe on SM2 should also clear from phone. Does anyone know of any SM2 app that allows this, not only for specific app but for all notifications.
Thanks

watchify clears the notification on the phone when deleted; also when the notification is cleared on the phone it also clears it on the watch.
It will not however clear the actual notification in the app such as gmail.

Notification bar stopped working

Hi people!
Suddenly, my notification bar has stopped (vertical and horizontal), so, I cannot receive any notification.
I did a dalvik caché, or even check in settings. But I couldn't see nothing that made it be stopped.
Do you know something about this? I'm using XtraSmooth ROM.
So ask in the rom thread... It's likely rom-dependent.
I checked everything, and everything was good configured.
But, I solved it in the most strange way ever:
- Changing the phone to "guest user".
Now, the notification bar is working again! :victory: (You cannot know how annoying is see your phone vibrating and you don't know which notification is.... )
