I'm sorry if i'm reposting the same thing and i do know that a lot of ppl are getting yelled at for this but I'm really ignorant about this android operating system... i don't know what it is... i don't know what rooting is... or whats the difference between froyo and eclair... Like I've mentioned earlier i don't know anything about this except for the fact that i just bought a new Samsung galaxy S captivate... If anyone can help plz do cause i am lost to no end... Thank you very much...
Rooting gives you administrative control over your phone and allows you to flash custom versions of Android. It basically allows you to have much more control over what you can do on your phone. Froyo, Eclair, etc are the names given to different versions of Android. Eclair is 2.1, Froyo 2.2, and Gingerbread 2.3.
Ohhh... well i think i i root my phone and is currently running eclair but i am trying to run froyo on it... how can i get there.... i'v dont some research on this forum and YouTube lol but the links they give me all came back as dead links... and installing froyo with cognitive is very confusing because the package that i have to install is a lot more than the elair... am i stating this correctly or am i just lost period... LOl thank you for your reply..
stay at version 2.1 eclair and get darkys v9.0.2 the best by far, its a custom rom and is amazingly fast. its easier todo if your on 2.1. so uprgrade to darkys rom. type in darkys rom. and itt has full instructions for noobs
i think the main reason for me to update is because i want to run skype... other then that i love eclair... i don't mind it at all... but for some reason skype only works on 2.2 firmware...
Im new to android too ... I just got my htc legend. The problem is i believe its under "vodafone" branding because everytime i switch my phone on the vodafone logo shows up. So the first i want to do is to remove this ... Can you please help me put here ?
hahha ive just sent my back to the guy i bought it off as mine was unlocked but vodafone branded. i hate it wen they do this. sometimes they even put vodafone stickers on the fone, its so annoying. am not entirerly sure to be fair. maybe reflash the phone . not sure mate
^ Oh man.... i completely new to this ! How can i tell if my phone is in unlocked condition or not ?
And how do i reflash it?
'you're in the right place, give it a couple of weeks and in no time you will be rooting ROMing and modifying like a pro. take it from me who knew nothing about the Android OS and now I'm up there.

I read somewhere in the rules for xda, you should search before posting question
Anyhow, this is a starting point. I don't have the Captivate but I am sure there are many more topics about your phone.

Greetings. I did a fair share of searching but I end with more questions.
I'll try list them as clear as I can.
First thing to note: I don't have experience with all of the below.
1. I am an avid flash user/developer and would like to develop apps for android. Which apparently is running android 2.1. However for flash / air apps we need android 2.2 at the very least.
My phone (garmin-asus A10) seems not to get any android upgrade anywhere soon.
Q: Is there a rom available for this phone. I read on the web / this site that in asia this phone comes with Android 2.2
2. So if anyone has a link to a downloadable rom, is there any link or tutorial to install this on my phone?
Sorry if this has been asked before. Just trying to get some answers.
Thanks
My HTC HD2 is now out of warrenty. So I decided to dual boot it.I installed the rundroid app with no issues. But now Im stuck.I have searched around and could not find the answer. My question is this...
What file(s) do I need to install on my SD to run android?I have not had any luck on the google monster. You could say Im at step 2 in my dual boot and now stuck. And what android would be best icecream, gingerbread ect.And how excatlly to I get it to work using rundroid?Im sure its very simple, I just dont know what to do next.Any help would be awsome.
I recommend checking out the HTC: Leo forums here. I also would recommend going with a nand install of android. There are detailed guides in the forums. You will not miss windows mobile for a second. You will want to use a gingerbread ROM. The ICS ROMs are good, but not 100% functional yet. Good luck.
Hi all, im new 2 the forum here and i was hoping someone could help me.
I bought a Htc flyer recently, 2nd hand, it was already updated to Honeycomb 3.2.
Im trying to install this an app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426975
When i try and install the .apk file, it just says file not installed, based on what i've read in the thread, u need to install it through custom recovery. Im new to the flyer, my previous device ran 2.2 Froyo and worked differently so im not sure where to start looking, its all foreign to me. Is there anyway to install this through my pc? or do i have to use custom recovery and if so how does that work exactly? If possible i don't want to root the tablet.
any help would be appreciated, thanks.
