[Q] Video Chat/Calling Qik Front Camera Fix

So you know our phones comes with Qik Video Chat. Has anyone used this app? I don't have any friends that have it so I don't know if the picture is in the correct orientation.
Has anyone used other apps like Tango? I tried using Tango with my brother and the orientation is wrong at his end.
So my main question is for those that are using Qik Video Chat. Is the orientation correct on the receiving party's end or is it wrong like with Tango that I'm experiencing with other people?

Yes my wife and I used Qik and it look good, just a little laggy.

I have not been able to use mine yet. i dont have any friends who have a front faceing camera yet. So right now its a waste of space for me. My girlfriend has a fasinate and she thought, and was told it had a front cam on it but we found out it did not....

I've used Qik - its clear and it does lag. The only thing Im not too happy about is when using any other app such as Tango or Fring u can not utilize the face front camera. Use have to use the camera on the back which sucks. If I had to do that I would've kept my Vibrant. I was told that there may be an update coming out to correct that, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Tango is ok but if I had to choose I would use qik or fring.

The orientation is fine. You should try yahoo too. gingerbread can't use it but it works fine on 2.2

What sucks is that you still have to use the rear camera. It won't let you use the face front. I don't want to have to turn my phone around so the other person can see me.....I hope they come out with a update for it. If not Im going to have to get rid of this....I already rooted it and unlocked it....

The only thing that works rear and front is tango, fring, and qik.

I dunno why yours isn't working. Mine works just fine using the front camera.

Update your tango app -- then click the icon at the top right hand corner of your screen and it will rotate from Front to Back

i cant use the camera with skype. i can only in the qik video chat

QIK Force close
anybody experiencing a Force Close on QIK software? I have removed some bloats and integrated the QIK update to the ROM via Titanium back up.

Tango seems to work fine with me.. at first the front can showed up sideways but after the update it works perfectly

Could you maybe post that apk here? Just back it up with Titanium Backup then upload the apk.

ooVoo, is the best as far as I am concerned. I video chat for hours, and have used Tango, ooVoo, and qik. ooVoo has the best audio quality, video is good also. Tango, has good video quality audio is not so good. And qik. ok. oovoo is the best, you can chat phone to phone and phone to pc.

Qik won't let me switch to the front camera. It says switched to front, but it's not.

Tango is good if you are doing phone to phone or phone to Ipod touch....Oovoo is the best in my opinion because you can do phone to phone, phone to Ipod touch and phone to pc

Works great and switches back and forth between cameras.

Good find, appears the ffc works but I was still unable to video chat with someone using the desktop application. You have anything similar?

I'm Running Gummy 1.8.5 with PBJ Kernel (Non OC).
Not able to get it to send video to a desktop, don't have any other phones to test with.

I can't get it to send video to desktop app... I can see their video but they can't see mine. Using imnuts debloated EE4

Yeh me too, I finally am able to see the desktop person but can't see me...... I'm so frustrated not having a ffc android to pc client yet....

Thanks for the link...I am an avid skype user and will be trying this out.

I'm running eclipse 1.2 and it works but there send to be a issue with the volume even all the way up in my charge I can barely hear them and they can not hear me at all. And yes I checked to see if we had muted each other lol. If any one knows a correction for this I appreciate it. and this was from charge to pc, haven't tried phone to phone yet.
Swyped on my eclipsed charge

works great for me.
Charge running debloated Ginger.
install.
Run and log in.
Force camera on.
Then you will get a black screen.
Restart.
Video call someone. Switch camera to front. You will get a black screen.
Restart.
Then all is well.
Can switch back between face and forward after that with no issues.

Working on STOCK Droid Charge here.
I was only getting video both ways and receiving audio at first, but after tinkering around with the settings this is now working for me on stock.
Tested only with desktop skype.

Looks like Skype was just updated to allow official video calling on a few devices, and the Charge was one of them.
Doesn't seem to work with the front camera though -_- At least I haven't found a way.

Same here.
Humble Froyo

I was able to video call my coworker's iphone4 using the front camera. No issues, really.
I think HIS connection dropped, which ended the call. Haven't tested since then.

Apparently you must be on gingerbread in order to be able to use the front camera on the updated skype.

Get this, I called my dad using video calling, both on 3g and wifi, and the camera booted up and when it connected the camera shut off and I was in normal call mode, anyone think of whats up with that?

[HOWTO] Fix Facebook notifications!

This is a post from Android Central member ccw1134:
"So let's set the table here. Facebook Push Notifications are the golden egg that we're all looking for. Well after reading this you can go obsess about something else...finally (I know I will). I have been beyond frustrated with the chaos that has surrounded this subject. I've spent way too many hours reading and reading then reading some more. I am proud to say that I finally cracked the elusive Facebook Push problem.
I switched from Verizon to Sprint last week (work decision) so I went from a Droid Incredible to a EVO 3D. I was hoping that my Push notification would work when I switched since they never had. To my dismay they did not. My daughter went from a BB Curve to the Motorola XPRT and her FB push notifications worked! She always would always say "Dad you're phone's not so Incredible now, is it?" So when I got my EVO 3D and it didn't work I really became obsessed. After comparing settings on both phones and Facebook settings I found the one anomaly. The list of authorized apps within Facebook (Account dropdown>Account Settings>Applications on the right side of the page) on the computer showed "Facebook for BlackBerry Smartphones" on hers but not mine. It's so simple yet outside of the box. The key is BlackBerry permissions! I am willing to bet that everyone who has working notifications on Android came from a BlackBerry. Okay onto the good stuff.
- Find someone with a working BlackBerry. This could be a friend or any store that has activated demo phones. - Using the Facebook app on the BB log into your account and wait for your stuff to start appearing. I did not log into email or anything else, just FB. - After you see your Newsfeed updated with your information simply log out. - Go into your FB settings on your Android phone and check the Notifications box. The refresh interval doesn't matter (it can even be set to Never). - Notifications should start appearing as you get them (Comments, Wall Posts, Pokes, Likes, Messages, etc.)
I did notice a couple of things that I hope get improved in the notification process. Messages and Friend Requests have their own separate icons for notifications just as they always have. Comments, Wall Posts, , Tagging, Pokes and Likes all share the new notification icon that you will start seeing. Because of this if someone pokes you and then you get a comment or whatever, your Poke notification is gone (I'm assuming because the FB App doesn't officially support Poking yet therefore it doesn't know how to handle that notification) and won't know who poked you. Also if you should happen to click on the poke notification doesn't take you anywhere useful, just the list of notifications (for the same reasons listed in the previous sentence). This is a small sacrifice for now. If someone tags you in a post (I assume a picture will be the same way) you also will still get an email notification to whatever email you use. Just an FYI on that.
For the record I am on Sprint using a nonrooted HTC EVO 3D running 2.3.3 and Facebook is version 1.6.3. I do not believe the carrier, phone model, OS or Facebook version matter but I know there are those out there who want to know this type of stuff."

Nope. I came from BB to Android and while I had notifications working about a month ago with a FB app update (nothing to do with switching from BB to Android), they no longer work and they didn't work when I initially switched over either.
I just checked my account settings and the Facebook for BlackBerry Smartphones is still listed there and still has permissions.
Think it is just a coincidence for you.

I don't know what the difference is but I installed the blacked out Facebook located here:

And I now receive notifications for the first time. I just installed the apk today so for me it worked and I have no reason to understand, just that I now get notifications. Can someone else confirm with this that they receive notifications?

The only way i got them to work was to create a new fb account.

I had a blackberry before the hero .It never worked. On facebook website it shows facebook for blackberry but it hasn't been used in 6 months. Im going to delete it and try my old blackberry if i can find it.

Nope, did it last night. Deactivated, then signed back in to reactivate, all from the browser. All your settings, friends, and such stay the same. Now I get every notification.

So you deactivated your whole account from the computer browser? Then reactivated it? No blackberry hoops to jump through.

Nope. I had a BlackBerry before my G1, and I still use BlackBerrys occasionally, including Facebook. I have gotten a total of two notifications from Facebook on Android, and it has never worked since.

Are you sure it's all ok? I'm a page administrator too and it's clearly written that I won't get back my administration rights back automaticaly if I deactivate...

i moved the facebook app to the SD card then back to my phone and it seemed to have fixed notifications for me

Wow. So many different fixes it almost seems like coincidence now. I know facebook is free and all and we shouldn't ***** but those guys are getting rich and not really giving anything back. I mean come on? Don't you think somebody that works for them uses android app and can see it sucks?

[Q] skype/oovoo video call problem

Hey guys I have a problem with skype video calls. After about 1 minute my outgoing video turns green with like 5 small boxes on top, this only happens with the front camera. Whenever i use the back camera the video is fine, has anybody else had this problem? If so how did you fix it. I am using the latest version of skype I downloaded from the android market. The problem with oovoo is that video does not work on my end at all, and the option to toggle camera is greyed out. I cant even take a picture for my profile. I am using the latest version of oovoo downloade from android market. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

What specific version of skype are you using? Is it the version ending with 160?

yes it is the skype version ending in 160 and the oovoo version is 1.2.2.648

Anybody getting the green screen when video chatting on Skype?

To be honest, you're way ahead of me. Video Skype is non functional on my g2x.

Sorry to hear that, I'm running stock Rom with latest Skype version if that helps. The g2x is supposed to be supported by oovoo but it can't even detect any of my cams. I'm sure someone has to have it working.

I hope someone has it working! I'm stuck using Qik for video communication with family. Kinda annoying asking others do download Qik for my sake.

My skype is working okay. So as gtalk and ym video. I use ffc with bfc toggle. Havent tested oovoo yet, dont have anyone to test with.

Nope. I just had mobile to pc video few moments ago for more than 20 mins. Only iasue I got was the hardtime taking the screenshot.

My mix is stock based.
Rooting is a risk, it's a decision you have to make...
If you decide to root and wanna try my new mix, just give me a pm and ill give you a link. The link in my sig hasn't been updated yet.

Mine splits into 12 screens its 4 screens horizontally by 3 screens vertically, the top row of 4 being normal colored and the bottom 2 rows being all green.

thanks jose I'll give it a shot, I tried weapon g2x and I could not send or receive a video image in skype. Also tried asop rom and the same thing happened, could not send or receive a video image in skype.

[Q] Google+ Hangout (video)

I have the 2.3.6 Gingerbread update (stock, but rooted). Now, I received the G+ update today but still can get video chat going. Tested using both my wifi connection as well as 4g. I tested it against my pc, using my wife's g+ account - no dice. When I try to connect on my phone, it shows the video trying to initiate. That includes, the video on me (asking for me to check my hair before clicking "Hangout"). When I do, I can see myself in the little camera at the bottom, but the main screen - nothing).
FYI, i've contacted VZ tonight and specifically asked the tech of VZ is blocking video chat over 4g and he stated no... that this was one of the features of 4g (can't do it 3g - sorry face time).
What are your experiences?

My wife uses infinityRom ep4d and hangout works fine

Thanks for the response. I actually have the infinity rom as well but liked the stock update much better. A friend of mine is going to help me test mine out using the thunderbolt. If it still doesn't work,I'll revert back to the infinity rom.

Okay - so I tested on my existing config mentioned in OP with both:
1. Friend with Thunderbolt
2. My PC
Both work!
