[A] Simple Mobile APN Problem fixed - T-Mobile LG G2x

Okay, here it is as promised. You need Clockworkmod Recovery installed but you don't need to be rooted to flash the zip.
I have created a flashable zip file to replace the stock apns-conf.xml with one that has settings for Simple Mobile. What I have done is made an apns-conf.xml file that has settings for virtually every gsm carrier worldwide with the main TMO settings changed to Simple Mobile settings. I wanted to have it backup the current one also but the Edify scripting language used by Clockworkmod Recovery doesn't have support for moving or copying a file. So if you want to back up the file first there are two ways. If you are rooted just use 'Root Explorer' and copy the file and then paste it back to the same directory (change to R/W first). The backup will show as apns-conf-copy.xml. The other way (root not required) is to connect to the phone by ADB and issue the following adb command:
> adb pull /system/etc/apns-conf.xml apns-conf-backup.xml
[Make sure the directory you are issuing the adb command from is not read only and you have full modify permissions if you are using Windows.]
To restore the file you can just use Root Explorer to delete the new one and then rename the copy back to apns-conf.xml. If you copied the original to your computer using adb then just change the backup to apn-conf.xml and use 7-zip to replace it with the one in my zip file and flash the zip package again. That will restore your original file.
I made two flashable zip packages. Both are flashed using Clockworkmod Recovery. Put the desired file on your internal or external sd card and flash it, then reboot. Afer rebooting go into Settings, Wireless & networks, Mobile network settings, Access Point Names. Click the menu button and then select "Reset to default." Then select the radio button for Simple Mobile to turn the selection green. T-Mobile will still show but the change to Simple Mobile should be persistent even if you shutoff or reboot the phone. If you change the sim you might need to select the Simple Mobile apn again (only first time). This apn setting is for internet and mms with Simple Mobile.
apns-4-simple.zip: Worldwide apn settings with Simple Mobile instead of TMO.

MD5 checksum: 4db59ceeae1d80f14ca2d44ef04e61ed
apns-4-GB-stock.zip Restores the stock Gingerbread G2X file which has no settings for any carrier. TMO, Wind and Videotron are set elsewhere in the rom.
Download Link: http://www.mediafire.com/?lcxlg23tsk6cc46
MD5 checksum: bb7ef684edb88a69e831a20828a4ca4a
I tested this myself with an old T-Mobile sim I have. It worked and the change was persistent after rebooting and shutting off the phone.
This should fix your data connectivity problems.
Please note: If you have a stock rom this will prevent future OTA or LG Updater updates. Use the "apns-4-GB-stock.zip" to restore the file to stock GB T-Mobile G2X and then OTA and LG Updater updates will work. If you have a stock Froyo rom use one of the methods above to backup your original file so you can restore it later if you want to get an OTA or LG Updater update.
Enjoy!

THANK YOU

It would have been nice to get some feedback after making the effort to fix this problem for you Simple Mobile users. anush.isaac, you said you would let us know as soon as you tried it out and we have been waiting four days now for your update.

question: What is APN? What does it do, and why does it need to be fixed. Sorry noob question. Im slowly learning about the android system. Some feedback would be nice. One more question: This works on T-Mobile???
*edit I just googled it.......can someone explain it to me in english, lol. I felt like I was reading in a different language.

Have the Same Problem
Hey all,
I was reading up and I have the same problem with my G2x.
I would like to try to use the solution that you provided but I have never done any rooting or modifying to my phone. I am not sure how to install the clockwork mod that you mentioned.
I only have access to a mac and in my experience that usually stops most attempts to modify my phone or other phones.
where can i find simple instructions on how to apply the flashable zip package and perform the Adb (not sure what this is)
Thanks in advance,
RR

Well you have to touch the radial button where the green dot should go, however, that is not good enough. You have to hold it down for awhile. Just the button. Then you get the green activation dot. There you have it.
Thanks for the help. You were correct, as was my assumption.
g2x activation at simple mobile.
Simple Mobile website--> Enter in Android config on a new APN--> Save and hold down the radial button long enough for it to turn green. From there, internet, gps, mms, etc. all work.
Ocean .. you are AWESOME. it worked like a charm , i kept searching around until i found your post, i'm gonna post this in another thread on here about the same issue if you don't mind. i'm sure many people are experiencing this issue
glad i didn't have to root ..why? my name says it all
ps. just make sure you do the drag first a couple of times "it wont actually drag the dot" but just do it a few times then hold like Ocean said until it turns green , i held it for 15 seconds at least

Sorry

Hi jboxer,
I really apologize for not being able to get back to you quickly. I was help up at work for the past few days and could not try anything.
I have not Rooted a G2X before and I am a little concerned on how to do it. I did read the Instructions on this form but it is a little confusing. Let me confirm this with you, To apply your fix I know I need to Root the phone but is there another way without rooting the phone as I am afraid I might brick the phone.
Also In order to root the phone I followed this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255214 . So I just need to install the CLOCKWORK MOD RECOVERY and flash the root zip??
The phone is my Girlfriend's so I don't have access to it all the time.. I once again apologize for the late reply..

No, you DO NOT need do root the phone to apply this. I stated that in my original thread and in others. You just need to install Clockworkmod recovery, boot into Clockworkmod and flash the APN zip and follow the instructions to restore to default apn settings. That's it. If you want to root then you can also flash the root zip at the same time or another time. The choice is yours and solely up to you.

Thanks
All day I've been trying to get the correct APN set up..and I come across your easy flash zip. It worked fine on my G2x and I have data! Thanks

Glad to help. Please click me a Thank You.

I've installed the zip and have followed the instructions over and over again, but somehow it keeps dropping out. i just upgraded to GB today (should have stayed with FY). the apn just keeps resetting to TMO over and over, my phone is completely screwed on data now thanks to GB. either way, anything you think i can do about the anp issue?
it just keeps failing or saying the connection timed out.

If you install my APN zip file the problem should go away. Once this is installed the APN has the same status as the TMO one so the phone should not want to switch back to TMO any more.

Im gonna give you guys another solution that does not involve flashing anything. I had this exact problem and here is what i did to fix. Blv me after you read this you wont believe it. Plus with the described methods in this forum about this issue, if you ever have to reset your phone, you will be back to the same problem again...having to flash that xml file.. read on..
First you need to get an unlock code for SIM unlock. I paid $2.80 on ebay for unlock code from unlock_fusion. Really cheap. You will not be able to create and save a new APN without the phone being unlocked. Now the default APN in the LG G2x is "T-MOBILE US" and you cannot delete it. Even if you root or unlock it cannot be removed. If you create the simple mobile APN as described in a matter of minutes it switches back to the tmobile APN which is a real pain in the a$$. The simple solution is to create another APN and name it exactly as your default APN which is "T-MOBILE US". Viola! Dont worry, it will allow you to save it with the same name but inside that APN you have the simple mobile configuration. It works without flashing anything. I added one thing extra to the simple mobile config APN type: default, mms, ota, agps
Thats it. you dont really have to add that but I did.
Note: This problem shows up after updating to android 2.3.3. before that, a simple unlock and adding the simple mobile APN worked fine.
Note:
to unlock requires that you put a sim card from a different carrier other than t-mobile for this phone. Also using the simplemobile sim card wont bring up the screen that asks for the sim unlock code. Use an AT&T sim card.. just borrow one from a friend. For those of you that dont know, simple mobile is what is called an MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) of t-mobile. They resell t-mobile's network which is why your 3G and 4G still works on simple mobile or any t-mobile phone that is used on simple mobile. You can also use a sim card from h2owireless as they are an MVNO of AT&T. So with that said, insert a different sim card and turn on the phone and you will see the screen come up asking for the unlock code. Do not enter anything that is not a real unlock code as too many tries will lock you out.

(I don't know, or can't find the "thank you" ikon on the page)

Found a fix that worked for me.
Nothing listed here fixed this issue for me. I eventually ran across APN Manager on the market. It works with root access and gives you full control over the APNs. I just made a backup then deleted the T-Mobile default one and now only Simple is there and always active.

John,
Funny its only you with that problem. Ive helped so many friends with this phone and the same problem and its resolved with what i posted. No root access needed. Only unlock code required and its cheap enough. Did you get unlock code for your phone? because you cant do what I posted (see picture link in my post) with out unlocking first. Please post exactly what changes you made because i dont think there is a root solution for the G2x/android 2.3.3. Post exactly what you did in the app you installed. thanks

I have discovered this is a framework issue also. I can make you a new framework and build.prop that should fix this issue once and for all. What rom are you using? I need your framework-res.apk file and your build.prop. I can fix them and make a flashable zip for you to install.

Data problems on all roms above 2.3.3

I know i'm not the only one having this problem, its been posted about before but no answers so id like to see if someone else who didn't get to see those can see this and come up with a solution..
I use an unlocked G2X with Cincinnati Bell, currently running Weapon. I have no problem at all on any rom though that is 2.3.3, any rom over that like 2.3.4, 2.3.4 etc data has NEVER worked, not i had it but lost it when i rebooted, never . i've never been able to run CM7 or MIUI because of this, and yes before someone suggests it my APN settings are correct i've checked them 1000 times they are the same as when on 2.3.3 roms, i've hard booted after to try to get data flowing a million times, i've followed installation instructions 100 percent and still have never had data working on those roms.
even on the new CM7 where the APN issue is fixed, data still does not work. Its obviously something in roms over 2.3.3 that is creating this problem. I BEG, BEG someone please help find an answer i would love you and most likely donate. Thanks.
58 views and no ideas? anyone, please?
You obviously haven't been checking the Development Section lately. There are many threads on this issue, and it has been fixed already. (Well, for the most part)

obviously you didn't read my post. I have NEVER had data work above roms with 2.3.3, most people have it then lose it. I also stated that the new kernel from ttbal and the newest CM where the issues are supposedly fixed I still can't get data. Please, read my post entirely before replying, thank you.

I've been following the development threads, because I too have been having data issues deeper than just missing APNs. It actually seems to be an issue with the entire radio side as a whole on any rom that's not based on the factory firmware. It's become much more stable, but still I can only get a GPS instant lock immediately after a hard reboot and can only receive multimedia messages immediately after a reboot as well. Another thing I've noticed, is I will get a "No internet connection" warning whenever I open the browser, despite having a data connection, and the page still loads.
Also, why do I have to set all my carrier information (my phone number, and voicemail number specifically) when the other factory firmware roms can pull this from the sim card?
I love all the features of CM7 and it's based roms, but the data stability has made it unusable for me.

You can't edit T-MO's one. You can copy and make a duplicate of that and then edit it, but that just beats the point.
And yeah I STILL have the same problem.
I'm not a t-mobile customer so I need to add my APN manually. And yes after a hard I can see my list of APNs and I'm allowed to add APNs but still no data. even after the latest stable version. And even after that with the Dragon Kernel with the supposed APN fix.
Really hope someone can shed some light here.

oh ok try going into recovery menu and wipe all data then boot up again maybe then you can see the apn
Since you are rooted go into adb and try the following. Download the attached zip file and extract the "apns-conf.xml" file and put it in the same directory you run adb from. Then execute the following adb commands.
# adb shell mv /system/etc/apns-conf.xml /system/etc/apns-conf.xml.bak
# adb push apns-conf.xml /system/etc/apns-conf.xml
# adb shell chmod 644 /system/etc/apns-conf.xml
Then go into apn settings and press menu and choose to restore to default. The TMO one will still show but now your Cincinnati Bell one should show also; and it will be a default apn like TMO now (they are on equal footing now). Make sure you press the radio button to make the Cincinnati Bell one green, it it wasn't already. Hopefully your data will work after this. Plus you will now have global apn settings automatically for virtually any sim you use from a GSM carrier worldwide.
(Note: Simple Mobile users don't use this - find my special thread for Simple Mobile users).

Thanks for the help, I'm not where near an xda and phone "noob" but i have never used adb I wouldn't feel comfortable trying to do that if it risks bricking my phone. Unless you have any opinion on how doing it or if its not really complicated I don't think I will try that.

There is no risk of bricking your phone if you stick to the commands I gave you. Just highlight and copy them and you can paste them into the command prompt window by right clicking and selecting paste.
Download the attached zip with the adb.exe and two dlls need for it to run. All you are doing is backing up the apn configuration file, replacing it with a new one and setting permissions so the phone can use the new file. Then you reset the apns to default and the phone will set the apns from that file based on the sim in the phone.
Go into settings, applications and turn on usb debugging, if it is not on already. Then connect your phone to your computer and make sure the adb drivers load (you can find the driver pack by searching this site or installing them from the LG Updater app). To make sure the phone is connected in the command prompt window type "adb devices" and hit enter. The phone should be shown as connected. If not, the drivers are not installed.
Run the command prompt from the same directory where you unzip the three adb files and put the apns-conf.xml file in the same directory. That makes it easier for you to do this. It is actually quite simple and will take only a minute or so.
Flashable zip to replace apns-conf.xml file
Here is a flashable zip that can be installed with clockworkmod recovery. It does the same thing but does not back up your existing file. If you are running a stock rom this will prevent an ota from installing. If you are running a custom rom it doesn't matter as you cannot get ota updates anyway.
Just boot into CWM recovery and flash this zip file. Reboot and reset your apns to default.
Ok sweet, should i flash it while on my current rom that works or flash CM7 then flash it?
quick edit- it won't effect my phone being unlocked and lock it will it? after those questions i'm done asking and i will give it a try good sir thanks

I have some problem and something more.
GPRS data will not work, my default APN is mss.life.com.by, and I see arrows in my status bar, but internet not worked.
So, I changed it to internet.life.com.by(got it from operator instructions) and I anymore see arrows and internet still not work.
I have an idea with broadband, I think in my country other radio frequency.
But I can find other broadband for LG G2x

How-to: Backup and restore your IMEI / MEID / EFS Data

EDIT:
THIS SHOULD NO LONGER BE USED.
PLEASE SEE THIS THREAD FOR RECOVERING YOUR IMEI - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1802024
Hi guys,
I tried flashing AOKP on my S3 yesterday and had my IMEI value set to zero, a rare(ish) error that some users have been running into with AOKP and the unofficial Cyanogen builds for this phone. If your IMEI is lost and you don't have a backup, your phone is basically toasted. So, I had to get my phone replaced which wasn't much trouble.
After speaking with invisiblek we determined a way to back up the EFS partition (which is where the IMEI and MEID is stored).
You need to do this on a rooted phone, it's been tested only with root66. You need USB debugging on and adb on your computer.
Code:
adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p11 of=/sdcard/efs.sbn
(exit adb)
adb pull /sdcard/efs.sbn
DD is a linux utility that can be used to copy data from point a to point b and many, many ways. What we did here is copied the EFS partition to a single file (and then copied it to your PC). The efs.sbn file was about 13.6mb, but I've heard reports as low as 10mb. We can reverse this process to restore as well:
Code:
adb push efs.sbn /sdcard/efs.sbn
adb shell
su
dd if=/sdcard/efs.sbn of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p11
reboot
This time we wrote the backup file to the EFS partition. After doing this you need to dial *2767*3855# to re-provision your phone.
My experience: When installing AOKP, my IMEI was replaced with most of my MEID, even after reverting my rom to root66. (This causes mobile data not to work). After restoring my backup and provisioning, I regained full functionality of my data and phone. I haven't had a chance to try this with a phone where the IMEI is set to 0, but I think it's safe to assume this would fix that as well.
I would HIGHLY recommend making a backup before doing anything to your phone. Making a backup is read-only is poses no chance of something going wrong.
EDIT: For clarification: If your IMEI is already messed up, this will NOT get it back. You need a backup from BEFORE it was corrupted.
Can we run this in Terminal Emulator to get the same output? Last time I tried ADB on this phone I wasn't recognizing it. Could have been my computer though. ADB devices came back with no attached devices last time.
Looks possible. Your just telling it to save that file to the root of the internal SD and then telling ADB to pull it. Don't see why you couldn't save to SD then just Dropbox it or something.
Edit: Did it in Terminal Emulator. Saved to SD. Uploaded to Dropbox. Will also hook up my phone and pull it that way. Looks like pushing will work the same way as long as the file is on the root of SD.
Thanks so much. I also ran with terminal emulator and backed up.
Hopefully someone can verify that this will work with the IMEI = 0 issue, as that will allow us to continue to flash!
Worked for me in Terminal as well. Zipped it up and emailed to myself. 13.6MB
so I have a question about this -
I flashed CM9 the other day and it was taking over 20 min to activate and I did a battery pull, then I restarted and it activated just fine.
then i started reading all these posts about how that will break your IMEI and it got me wondering because I no longer get 4g, I get 3G just not 4G.
before I did this my MEID read the same as my IMEI but had less numbers. (just like 2 or 3) after doing *2767*3855# go back into status and see that I now have HEX and DEC under MEID which I did not have BEFORE the *2767*3855#
my question is - is there a way to test the 4G some how - I checked VZW site it says I am in a 4G area, is there a number of sort I can look at in status or somewhere else on my phone?
I'm new to this can someone tell me would in use those same commands on terminal emulator to get it? And I'm on unofficial cynogen right now so my next question is if I do corrupt it how do I place the imei back to get it woeking? Thanks

If using terminal emulator just skip straight to the line that has "su" on it and go from there. Same thing when putting it back in after it gets messed up.
The key is to put it somewhere safe as it will store it on your internal sdcard. This is called "sdcard" on your device. I just sent a copy to my drop box.
If it gets mesed up, then I would Odin back to stock rooted and just take the copy you have stored somewhere other than on your phone and put it back in the "sdcard" but not in any folder, just in the root directory. Then simply follow the restore directions in the OP but skip straight to the SU line.
That said. I'm still waiting until the RIL gets fixed. TW isn't that bad and with the mods and replacement launchers and apps the phone is nearly stock anyway. I'm being patient.

Download the "Phone Info" app and see if you can change it to get 4g again. if not, you might wanna try restoring back to stock using ODIN to see if that helps.

One of the more helpful posts I have seen to this point (provided it actually works to recover lost IMEI's). This issue was probably making many people hesitant, having a safeguard is always good. This is also extremely easy to do.

Hi guys,
I tried flashing AOKP on my S3 yesterday and had my IMEI value set to zero, a rare(ish) error that some users have been running into with AOKP and the unofficial Cyanogen builds for this phone. If your IMEI is lost and you don't have a backup, your phone is basically toasted. So, I had to get my phone replaced which wasn't much trouble.

I flashed CM10 on my S3 from the rooted Bean rom and I can confirm that with a clean install my IMEI is missing and I have no "own number".
I do however have working data, phone, messaging. Could you explain what you mean by a phone being "toast". Is there some other consequence I'm not seeing yet? If I go to another rom or back to stock is my phone going to brick?
I've seen bits of pieces of info about the missing IMEI, and I'm hoping somebody can clarify what this means for me since my phone is technically working as expected.
Thanks

Sorry I just wanted to clarify. My IMEI is existing, but "My phone number" is blank. Also something called "MIN" is blank. I have been getting a popup asking me for a sim unlock.
Sorry for any confusion. Please ignore if i'm derailing the thread. It just sounds like a similar issue.
Worked using android terminal, on my ATT S3. Nice to know I have a backup -- eases my mind just a bit.
Well, a couple of things.
1. I'm on TMo
2. I'm on CM9
I have two phones...one borked and one good.
Went ahead and tried this..when I did the re-provision thing I got an error Connection problem or invalid MMI code. I assume that this is caused by being on TMo.
Bottom line, my serial # is for the correct phone, and this did not move over my IMEI from my working phone. My borked phone still shows IMEI 0

As per the OP, it makes sense that it didn't work for you. We need someone with a valid backup to test this theory out to see if it restores their IMEI.

You did do a reboot after attempting to restore correct? Keep in mind, Verizon due to it's dual type of network (CDMA/LTE) has that extra need for the provisioning, thus the code they use to activate is needed. Remember we use GSM, there is no special activation needed except pop a SIM in and power up. Try putting your SIM in the old phone and powering on.

[MF3] get service menu and unlock

you can unlock in MF3 OTA firmware!! I did it!!
you CAN get the service menu!! I did it.
heres how.
ok so I bought my phone, att galaxy s4 i337, came with mdb or mdl im not sure really..........
I went to take off sha 256 to 0 and it was set like that from shipping...
ok so I didn't read the instructions well and I thought it was already unlocked (I didn't get the other sim card yet to test out the lock).
so OTA MF3 pushed out to me.
I rooted with the pwn sim card hack. worked in MF3 like a charm! a supers. now I have root in MF3.
locked bootloader? NO WORRIES!!!
so my other sim card comes and it isn't unlocked!!!!! @#@$#@
what to do now?
I found a utility on the google play called "Samsung service mode". yep the T-Mobile guys know the file system trick for syste.hiddenmenu=1. its in the file system........ so apparently im lazy and this app does it for you goto the t mobile section to see how to do it in the file system and apk hack.
but it works!!
I NOW HAVE SERVICE MENU BACK IN MF3 OTA!!!!!
ok now that I did that, I went to try to unlock it again.
I still have the sha256=0.
so I did the NV rebuild with the gold backup.
IT WORKED!!
popped in my other sim, and no unlock screen!!!
sooooooooooo a little more options for everyone complaining on no service menu in MF3.
CAUSE THERE IS!!! its a file system hack or run the application.
I hope this helps someone!!
thanks

thanks for posting the links.
I haven't tried the manual method instead of the service mode app.
however the post is in the t mobile section
u can do a search for "hiddenmenu" or "hidden menu" and u should find the file mods instead of buying the app.
so that is a free option
perhaps someone can code it into a free app here?
any takers?
tnx
Well for my factory MF3 it didn't work, or probably I didn't do it correctly.... You should make a little tutorial on how to use this app combined with the unlock method under service menu.. In my case had to order the code..

when u run the service mode program, u have to click on "US phone only, show hidden menu"
after that, u can goto " *#27663368blahblah" from the program
and your menu appears!!!
the program doesn't ask for root.
(which I do have).
hope that helps!

And when tap PERSO_256 info I go to this one..
Then I tap SHA256_ENABLED_FLAG[1] and returns me exactly to the Main Menu again.. So I can't continue to step 7 and so on....
great! service menu in MF3 works!
ok great! so u can get to the menu.....
the nv rebuild is accessible...
however yes you cant flip the sha256 flags, that is missing in the menu.
for people who have it off already, then u can just do an NV rebuild to the gold image
(that's what I did!!!)
so that's how I unlocked in MF3 OTA
but yes getting the service menu back works now, as u have verified.
there may be another way to turn the sha256 menu's back on.
we need someone to check it out further.
but we are closer.
hackable

ok so that's the previous thread on the hiddenmenu.apk.
im assuming that's what "Samsung service mode" application is using / editing, a system variable to use this apk.
all the other threads refer to hiddenmenu.apk.
sooo all we need is a replacement hiddenmen.apk to reenable the sha256 functionality.
why?
look in the code. it was decompiled.
the menu is in the code.
can we replace the new hiddenmenu.apk with the old one from MDL and get the option to enable / disable sha256?
I think its doable and easy.
anyone have the skills enough to try?
this would be a good hack to do for MF3 OTA.
Thanks good_shepherd33 for figuring this out. I had been searching for a method to SIM unlock my phone and finally using "samsung service mode" program, followed by the NV Rebuild steps mentioned above unlocked my phone.
Note that I already had the code from AT&T but it was not working. Also note that to date, I had tried the code more than 5 times. But minutes ago, I bought the service mode program, and in the service menu sha256 was already off (0). Then I did NV rebuild as described in the above link, and inserted the foreign SIM card, again asked for the network key, but this time when I enter the code AT&T game me, it accepted, and the foreign SIM card worked.

if the app doesn't work for you, then try the manual method posted in the tmobile section.
I think the app only works on US phones....(as the menu item says).
the manual method may work on all phones, I don't know I haven't tried the manual service menu enable method.

if ur flag is set to 1
then u just use an unlock code
u cant use an unlock code when its set to zero apparently.
so $10 for it.... still worth it.
Eh sorry man, but 10 dollars is 10 dollars. unlocking should be free IMO anyways. This isnt even my phone lol im just messing with it for a friend. Thought unlocking it would of been a bonus. But it seems I don't have all the SHA256 options listed in the steps, Thats all i need is a way to flip this flag to ZERO, then complete the rest of the procedure.
Right now out of boredom, because it seems we do not have unlocked bootloader been decompiling the apk's to see if there is something they might off quoted out or took out all together to make these options not visible. Nothing has stood out to me yet.
OR even something liek this that I could run in terminal to flip the flag or bring it the menu with all the options.
Code:
am broadcast -a android.provider.Telephony.SECRET_CODE -d android_secret_code://1111

[GUIDE]How to flash CM/CM based 4.4.4 to 6.0+ ROMs on SCH-S968C and setup SIM/APN

INTRO:
The mission of this thread is to make some potentially important information available to all users that have the SCH-S968C(All Tracfone carrier models) that has been gathered over the last year and a half for flashing CM/CM based ROMs on the SCH-S968C .
Though this information is available in many other places, I'm collecting it all into one place to try and make it as painless as possible for everyone with the SCH-S968C. This guide is a long one and has many steps but I've attempted to make it as straightforward as possible for those that are new to rooting and flashing.
BACKSTORY:
Starting from some time in 2014 there have been a lot of users with the SCH-S968C that have flashed a CM11/CM12/CM13 or CM11/CM12/CM13 based custom ROM and didn't have mobile data(3G) or even no cellular signal after flashing and were like:
"OH MY GOD! WHAT DID I DO!?"
Then they would start flashing other ROMs or flashing back to stock to straighten the issue out, only to find that didn't help and none of the typical or expected solutions would correct the issue. Many were flashing modems and swapping system files in an effort to get data working, all of which ended with either a non-working device or a bricked device, do not try the things they tried, that is not the fix for the situation.(if you are one of the ones that lost signal and can't get it back even on stock, I'll discuss the fix for that in TROUBLESHOOTING at the end of this guide).
THE REASON:
These users would have no signal after flashing because unfortunately, these ROMs are built for the Verizon S3 SCH-I535 but the SCH-S968C can flash them(it actually has the SCH-I535 Verizon motherboard with 4G disabled in the hardware, making it 3G only). The Verizon S3 is a 4G/LTE device, Verizon uses a CDMA 4G/LTE SIM in their 4G devices to regulate 4G data. This SIM requirement is built into the ROMs themselves. Even though the SCH-S968C is a 3G device, this makes these ROMs require a CDMA 3G/4G/LTE SIM when flashed on the SCH-S958C to receive at least data(some of the ROMs even require it for cellular service also, not just data).
The discussion of all of this about the SIM, what has been tried to bypass the SIM and the things discovered to leave the SIM and get everything working at its best can be found in THIS THREAD. Most of the issues and fixes for the KK and newer ROMs, all the troubleshooting and fixes associated to getting working data/MMS/SIM correctly configured along with restoring if you have issues can be found in the linked thread, mostly toward the end and not so much the middle.

]6[-CDMA 3G/4G/LTE SIM(absolutely MUST have a SIM or you won't get mobile data/MMS to work), below is a list of SIMs that should work and the results of using them, you'll need a micro SIM or a full-size SIM trimmed to fit micro(a nano SIM with adapter to fit micro will work as long as it is a CDMA, not a GSM SIM).
]*[Previously activated Verizon 4G LTE SIM.($3-5 on eBay)
(results are APN settings are accessible and mobile data/MMS works correctly)
]*[New, never activated Verizon SIM
(most users with a new SIM have working mobile data(3G) but have had issues accessing APN settings to get MMS working, some have had no issue accessing APN settings, some users with a new SIM also had a random dialing issue that would dial a *2289X number, the cause was never identified, this issue doesn't happen with a previously activated Verizon 4G/LTE SIM).
]*[Straight Talk BYOP CDMA 4G/LTE SIM(not the AT&T/T-Mobile SIM, those are GSM and won't work)(I haven't been able to verify if there is a difference between used and new ST SIMs but mobile data should work and if APN settings are accessible you should be able to get MMS working, hopefully users will post their results here with new and used ST SIM).

]6[-It is recommended to make a NVdata backup to protect IMEI then save a copy of your /efs folder before flashing custom ROMs. IMEI is very easy to lose depending on what you flash and the order you flash it in with this device.
]*[(RECOMMENDED)Comprehensive guide to backing up IMEI/efs HERE
]*[For those that don't have a PC, open the Terminal Emulator app and type:

]7[- It is also recommended to save a copy of your /efs folder on your extsdcard, we will use ES File Explorer. Open ES File Explorer and take note of what your extsdcard is labeled as and remember it, you'll need to know this later, then swipe from right to left to go a page over.
]8[-Tap the / symbol.
]9[-Press and hold the /efs folder to highlight it then tap the "More" button at the bottom.
]10[-Tap "Copy to"
]11[-Tap the arrow at the top left(what it says will be different depending on the ROM you're using).
]12[-Remember the name of your extsdcard? Select your extsdcard.
]13[-When you get to your extsdcard, tap "OK"(Those with PC can now connect to PC and save a copy of /efs on PC, you may have to enable MTP in the USB options that pop up when you connect device to PC to grant the PC access to device storage).
]14[-Open Titanium Backup(grant superuser/root permission if prompted while using Titanium Backup), backup all apps/data/settings you want to keep(Follow the guide I linked to determine what you want and what is safe to restore after flashing a new ROM, some things won't restore in a new ROM without causing issues), instructions for using Titanium Backup HERE.
]15[-To simplify moving files and to keep everyone on the same page when finding your files when you flash them we will create a folder on extsdcard and name it ABC(or whatever you want as long as you know which one it is), this will make it easy to find in TWRP when you flash your ROM.
Open ES File Explorer and select your extsdcard.(Those with PC can use PC to do this)
]16[-Tap the "New" button.
]17[-Tap "Folder".
]18[-Name the folder "ABC"(or whatever you choose) then tap OK.
]19[-Download the KK/LP/MM d2lte or d2vzw ROM(s) of your choice and store it/them in the folder you created on your extsdcard. You will find ROMs, custom recoveries, custom kernels and various other mods that can be used on the SCH-S968C in the links below.

***EXTREME CAUTION***(DO NOT use anything that says STOCK/STOCK based or TW(TouchWiz) in its name, nothing that says firmware or modem, nothing that mentions Safestrap Recovery or Flashfire, locked Bootloader(BL). All of these things are specifically for the Verizon SCH-I535 and will almost certainly lead to hard bricking your device if you attempt to use them.***EXTREME CAUTION***
]20[-Download the appropriate Gapps for the ROM(s) you chose and store it/them in the folder you created(the version of Gapps you need should be mentioned wherever you get your ROM from).
]21[-Charge battery to full.
]22[-Now you're safely prepared to start the flashing process, proceed to the next steps.
***FLASHING TWRP***
It is recommended to always use the newest version of TWRP available for best results. If you already have the newest version then skip to FLASHING YOUR ROM, if you don't have it then follow instructions below.
To make this easy for those that are new or don't have a PC, we will use TWRP Manager or Flashify to flash TWRP, or by manually downloading the TWRP .img(linked above) then flashing it in Flashify.

]8[ Proceed to BACKING UP YOUR STOCK ROM.
***BACKING UP YOUR STOCK ROM***
]1[-When you are booted to TWRP, if you are still on stock and you haven't made a NANDroid backup, make it now by selecting the "backup" option before you flash anything!(Very important step)
]2[-Tap "Select Storage".
]3[-Select your extsdcard(Micro SDCard), select OK.

]14[-Tap "Reboot System".
]15[-Wait for the phone to boot(It will take 10-20 minutes to fully load), when it boots into Setup Wizard, stop and watch the status bar Network Signal icon, wait for the device to detect the SIM, when the icons shows a signal(and 3G if you're lucky, if you are not getting any 3G then just get on WiFi to finish setup if you have WiFi or if you don't have WiFi, skip setup and go on to SETTING UP DEVICE AND SIM, you can sign in to Google to finish setup after you get the SIM and APNs set up), then go through Setup Wizard to set up the device and sign in to your Google account. When you're in the phone, continue to setup steps below.
***SETTING UP DEVICE AND SIM***
***NOTE***Your system settings may look different depending on your ROM but the settings should be the same or similar, find the settings described wherever they are in your ROM and set them to what is posted.***NOTE***
]1[-Go to System Settings>About>Build Number.
]2[-Tap build number at least 7 times quickly to enable Developer Options(you'll get a toast message saying you have enabled development options).
]3[-Go to System Settings>Developer Options.
]4[-Set Root Access to "apps and adb".
]5[-While still in developer options, verify USB debugging is on(neither is needed for setup but turning them on now prevents potentially confusing issues later).
]6[-Open your dialer app and dial:
*228(if your SIM is a Verizon SIM), press send, this programs the SIM, hangup when done.
OR
*2289X(if your SIM is a Straight Talk SIM(or any other Tracfone variant CDMA SIM). I can't confirm the actual number, I haven't used this SIM), if your SIM is a ST BYOP CDMA 4G/LTE SIM then this number should program the SIM, I can't confirm that though, if it doesn't we'll have to hope someone that used ST 4G posts what they had to do, hang up when done.
]7[-Go to System Settings>Mobile Networks(tap the words, not the toggle switch.
]8[-Set Preferred Network to "3G".
]9[-Set CDMA Subscription to "NV".
]10[-Select Access Point Names.
]11[-Then select one of the existing APN sets on the list(any set, it doesn't matter, do not create a new set, you have to edit an existing set or they won't save, your list won't look the same as mine).
]12[-Edit the APNs using either set I have posted, the Tracfone set should work on all Tracfone network variants. Change only the values listed.
]*[Tracfone APNs, enter the name of your Tracfone network Carrier variant in the Name value(These APNs are for all Tracfone devices including BYOP devices).
Name: (Your network variant)
APN: tfdata
Port: 80
MMSC: http://mms-tf.net
MMS Proxy: mms3.Tracfone.com
MMS Port: 80
]*[Verizon APNs(these will also work on the Tracfone variants since they are on Verizon towers).
Name: verizon
APN: internet
MMSC: http://MMS.vtext.com/servlets/mms
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 012
APN Type: internet,mms
]13[-When you've entered the APNs, tap the menu button.
]14[-Save the edited APNs, the set you create might disappear but they are still there and will still work as normal.
***NOTE***If you flashed a 4.4+ ROM first and now you want to go up to 5.0+/6.0+ and you have working data, now would be a good time to reboot to TWRP to flash the 5.0+/6.0+ ROM and Gapps like instructed in the above steps. When you get them flashed, do these same steps to make sure everything is set where it needs as you go back through everything.(or dirty flash with no factory reset, only wipe cache and dalvik after flashing and ONLY as long as it is an update to the same ROM you are using, for example, CM11 to CM12 or AICP 5.0 to AICP 6.0, hopefully dirty flashing will let you keep APNs configured in some of the newer ROMs that don't give access to APN settings instead of having no way to change APNs in your new ROM, also, some of the ROMs don't have the settings built in the ROM because they have World APNs so shouldn't need the settings configured)***NOTE***
]15[-Reboot the device to reload settings.
]16[-After the device reboots you should have working mobile data and MMS(You can sign in to your Google account now if you had to skip it in setup), install Titanium backup using the copy of the app you placed on extsdcard then open Titanium Backup and restore all the data you backed up in Titanium Backup, reboot after restoring data from Titanium Backup.(You will need to go to System Settings>Security>Unknown Sources and turn it on to install Titanium Backup if you're installing from a copy you manually saved, or you can install it again from the Google Playstore)
]17[-Remember to set Root Explorer and mount R/W in ES File Explorer as described in PREPARING BEFORE FLASHING section posted above before proceeding to the next step.
]18[-Once everything is set up the way you want, mobile data/MMS are correctly configured and all data is restored from Titanium Backup, you can boot to TWRP and make a new NANDroid backup of your custom ROM with everything working, this can also be used to restore later if you have issues. Remember, at this point you should have a stock NANDroid backup and a custom NANDroid backup if you've followed the instructions, either can be used when/if you need it. Reboot after making the new NANDroid backup.
]19[-Enjoy!!!

***Troubleshooting***
]1[-ISSUE-You've tried flashing a CM12/CM13 or CM based Lollipop/Marshmallow ROM but you are getting a bootloop.
]A[-POSSIBLE FIX- Did you wipe data/wipe cache/wipe dalvik cache before/after flashing then rebooting?
]B[-POSSIBLE FIX- When coming from stock to Lollipop or newer it is sometimes necessary to do a clean install when flashing the ROM, to clean install, Boot to TWRP, select "Wipe".
]*[Then select "Advanced Wipe".
]*[Then select "System" and "Data" partitions(do not select any other partitions). Swipe the slider to confirm the wipe.
]*[Tap the home button and continue by flashing ROM and Gapps normally as posted in FLASHING YOUR ROM above.
]2[-ISSUE- You flashed a ROM and lost Signal.
]A[-POSSIBLE FIX- Check Network Settings to verify you're set to 3G and NV, if you flashed a custom ROM before this and had working data then flash back to that ROM and check network settings in that ROM also.
]B[-POSSIBLE FIX- Check System Settings>About>Status>IMEI and verify you still have IMEI. If you have lost IMEI then follow steps below.
]*[(Recommended)-Refer to the Comprehensive guide to backup IMEI/efs to restore IMEI HERE
]*[-Open Terminal Emulator and type:
su (press enter, grant superuser/root permission if prompted)
Then type:
reboot nvrestore (press enter, this will restore your IMEI)
]*[-Restoring the nvbackup using Terminal Emulator erases the backup from where it was saved so you'll need to make another NVdata backup using the same method described above in the PREPARING BEFORE FLASHING section.
]*[-Copy your efs folder back to its location on your device(overwrite the existing file if needed), reboot device.
]3[-ISSUE- You flashed a 6.0 CM/CM based ROM and now your PC sees your device but isn't seeing your device storage.
]A[-Possible fix- When device connects you'll see a notification in status bar, pull down notifications and open options, select MTP.
***NOTE***THIS THREAD(linked above also) discusses various issues when flashing these ROMs and using SIM, remember to patiently read through it if you have issues and you'll probably find your answer, the issues and fixes are spread through many months of posts so it's not going to be a fast find, but with diligence to suffer through the agony of reading posts you'll most likely find your answer***NOTE***
Hello. Nice guide here. Only problem I have is APN settings not accessible with cm 12.1 and a new ST SIM card. Tried to visit link for different ROMs and everything on fixin SIM/MMS, but links are broken.

The links work fine for me, try a different browser or something.
As stated in my guide, new, never activated SIMs usually can't access APNs but previously activated ones can, get a used Verizon SIM from eBay for $3-5, they have APNs stored on the SIM, this allows you to edit them.
Or you can try different ROMs to see if APNs are accessible, some can and some can't because some of the ROMs have world APNs built in(these don't have APN settings), the ones without world APNs should be able to access APN settings.

I ended up doing a clean install of octos 6.0 ROM and works like a charm. No Verizon SIM needed. Flawless for me so far. Regardless , your posts taught me a lot on multiple sites. Amazing the s3 can run android 6.0. Cheers

Are the APNs saving when you can access them? If so then a reboot shouldn't reset everything. You have to edit an existing set or they won't save, creating a new set won't save, only editing existing sets works.

Leaving the rest of them won't harm anything, you can delete them if you want but once they are gone there's no getting them back.
In my experience, I've seen better results with a used SIM from Verizon, they are easy to get and cheap for $3 to $5 on eBay.

I didn't quite understand that, can you clarify what you're saying?
Are you saying the APNs are disappearing?
Typically on this device, when you edit and save they disappear but still work, that's normal for this device if that is what you mean.

After dialing *228 im given the apn list. One of them works from the start with no modifications and is named straight talk. But after rebooting the phone the list will be blank and say apn setting not available for this user(data works but no mms). If i dial it again the list returns and the phones mms works onces again. Im guessing this is the errors you have been talking about but i got the sim card befor your guild.
I will most likely buy another card used but im not much of an ebay user
And im sorry my English is vary bad

The apn it defaults to and works on is basically blank but it works. As long as i dont restart the phone. I have not tested to see what happens over a long period of time, my guess is it will eventually stop working again. But i will keep my phone on over night and see if i can mms in the morning

Wait before you get the SIM. I might can work something out for you. You're the first person to mention getting APN settings back after they weren't available and the first to mention that you lose them after a reboot. Does your data and MMS still work after rebooting?
I'm going to contact some developer associates of mine and see if we can't use this information to come up with a working fix for it, if so, you won't need another SIM but if you'd rather not wait then go ahead get the SIM.
You have me curious to see if there is something useful that can be done like writing a script or something to run at startup to keep your issue from happening. Whether its a script or not there may still be a chance there could be a small breakthrough for this device when using these ROMs.

I am more than happy to wait I'm more interested in the process of getting this to work then I am updating my phone after a reboot and APN settings disappear I lose the ability to MMS but I still am able to use data.
If there is any information I can send you please let me know I am more than happy to send it
I am doing this with the CM 13 nightly build but I'm not up to date this current moment because that would require a reboot

In the meantime, if you want to use MMS you can use Hangouts or a third party texting app from the Playstore, there are several different ones, third party texting works fine, its the stock messenger in these ROMs that doesn't work without the APNs, third party doesn't need it.

Yes, but some of the third party apps don't require the other person to have it.
BTW, if you use the reply button under someones post(if you're using a browser) it will quote whoever you're replying to and they'll get a notification to let them know you replied.
Or if you're using an app to view this form, tap the persons post then tap reply and it will quote them.
This way they know you replied instead of having to purposely come look to see if you replied.
You can also give someone a mention if you want to get their attention by putting @ on the beginning of their name like this @stoneman1924, this also gives them a notification that you mentioned them so they'll know to come look. It makes it easier for everyone if you use the quote system and the mention system. I've quoted your post every time I replied, it gave you notifications that I had replied to you so you could check my reply didn't it?

SM-G935P Root - Updated 10/25/2016

Below, not only will you find step by step instructions on how to root your device but also a FAQ section in post #2 that will guide you through the problems most of us encountered in the beginning. It is highly recommended that you read through all of it. Basic knowledge of ADB is required and if you don't have it then you should definitely read the FAQ section for ADB set up. Make sure you have all the files downloaded.
Update 10/25/2016: Attached at the end of this thread is a modified debloat script for knox removal and a few other apps. This will make your root experience a heck of a lot smoother than before. Just flash the zip using FlashFire without changing any settings. You may notice a reboot or two. There are few bloatware apps that will still be there (amazon shopping, amazon videos, amazon photos, etc) that you'll have to remove manually. Happy flashing and don't forget to hit that Thanks button down below!
Disclaimer:
This root method is NOT for beginners. It is NOT easy. If you don't get it then DON'T do it. Especially if you're worried about voiding the warranty and blah blah blah. Simply put, don't do it if you don't have the slightest idea of what you're doing. I'm tired of complaints. This guide is not for the faint of heart. Do this at your own risk!
Package Disabler Pro is required to get this rooting method working. Yes, it costs money ($.99) but it's the way I acheived this work around at the moment.
Be prepared to lose data (LTE) connection but don't be scared as it's an easy fix.
Make sure you don't have Secure startup set up before you start the process. Having this set up causes issues.
Must have ADB set up and installed system-wide.
This root method should be used with PE1 firmware for both the GS7 and the GS7 Edge. Although this root method might work with the latest firmware, users have been reporting issues dealing with APN's on the newest update. Look at post 2 FAQ's returning to stock for flashing PE1 firmware through Odin.
Do not update to PJ2 if you want to keep service with your root. Phone calls and text messages won't come through after rooting on PJ2.
Files you will need:
Odin by Princecomsy: http://www.filedropper.com/princecomsyodin
G935A: http://www.filedropper.com/samsungg935xqcrootedboot (S7 Edge)
G930A: http://d-h.st/o3hm (S7)
SuperSU: https://download.chainfire.eu/970/SuperSU/SuperSU-v2.76-S7QC.zip
Click on the BLUE "download" links. Extract everything into a folder easy to locate.
Here we go:
After downloading and getting set up Package Disabler Pro, you'll need to disable the following three packages:
samsung dm phone interface
samsung dm service
securityLogAgent.
Use the search box to easily find these packages.
Power off your device and boot into download/bootloader mode by pressing and holding the volume down, home, and the power button. Press volume up to get into bootloader.
Open PrinceComsy odin and flash the engineer boot.img by clicking AP and navigating to the file for your model. Click start and your device should reboot by itself.
Enable developer options by going to Settings>About Device and tapping Build Number till it shows Developer mode has been turned on. You will now have Developer options under the settings menu.
Enable USB debugging in the Developer options settings.
Extract the SuperSU zip and run the root.bat file. Your phone will reboot if the script is successfully ran.
Next, we'll get LTE data back:
Method A: BuildProp Editor (easiest method)
Open Build.Prop with BuildProp Editor and change the following settings:
ro.cdma.default_numeric=310000 to 310120
ro.cdma.default_alpha=Chameleon to Sprint
ro.build.characteristics=Chameleon to Sprint
Make sure you grant root permissions when it asks. You may have to try this twice. Reboot and LTE should stick.
Method B: Manual activation (also if you're not able to make any calls)
Enable the three packages disabled in step 1. Go into the phone dialer and type in ##72786# and your phone should reboot and begin the activation process. After the 5th retry, it will manually activate itself. It should say "writing to device". Don't click done yet. Press the home button and disable the three packages once again. Reboot.
Alternatively, after renabling the three packages and dialing ##72786#, you can go into Settings>Activate this device and manually try to activate it yourself. It still must say "writing to device". Don't click done. Disable the packages once again. Reboot. Voice and LTE should stick.
Download S7_or_S7Edge_Fixes_V15.zip to your internal or external storage and install install FlashFire from the playstore.
Open FlashFire and let it acquire root access. Click the + button at the bottom right corner then click on Flash ZIP or OTA. Navigate and select the S7_or_S7Edge_Fixes_V15.zip. file. Leave the options alone and click the check in the top right. Scroll down to the bottom and click flash. Your phone will reboot and flash the zip. This can take a while.
Go to Settings>Lock screen and security>Other security settings>Security policy updates and turn off "Automatic updates" and "Wi-Fi only". Reboot. This seems to be the culprit of the 7 day soft brick.
Open back up Package Disabler Pro and search for "software update". Disable both packages (com.sec.android.soagent and com.wssyncmldm)
Enjoy your rooted device with minimal to almost no lag.
???
Profit.

FAQ's:
My WiFi credentials keep on getting erased after a reboot. What gives?
A: This seems to be an issue across all the QC S7 variants. Here's what I did to fix it. Download BuildProp Editor and change: ro.securestorage.support=true to ro.securestorage.support=false
Credit goes out to: @guaneet for this fix
Can I install Xposed?
A: Yep. Here's how to do it:
fnztakedown said:
Alright. Here is a DB link of the two files I had installed to get xposed working. To flash this you will need flashfire.
Process is simple. Download both files and install the apk.
Open flashfire> select flash new file> find the xposed zip, flash. Give it a solid 5-7 minutes during boot up.
Ensure you do not have any major packages disabled and ensure you have BACKED UP YOUR ROM VIA FLASHFIRE. Please be aware, this was successful for me on the 935T and I do have random reboots at time. I cannot confirm this is the cause yet. I would also suggest finding the uninstall zip in the event you have issues you can flashfire back.

I'm having issues with ADB. Any help?
A: Easiest way to install ADB and its subsequent drivers would be to get it from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979
It's SO easy to install and it takes most if not all of the hassle out of it.
Credit to @Snoop05 for this easy ADB installer.
How do I enable USB debugging?
A: Go to Settings>About device and tap Build number until it shows Developer options has been enabled.
I'm stuck on the LTE splash screen. What do I do?
A: Press and hold the Volume Down + Power button down until your phone restarts. If you keep on getting stuck at the LTE splash screen you may have to factory reset your device. As soon as your phone restart quickly press the volume up + home + power button and let it boot into recovery. Wipe data/factory reset and cache partition.
I'd like to unroot and return to factory stock. How would I go about this?
A: Head on over to @psouza4's post HERE and follow his steps in the return to stock section. The steps are easy and he's posted mostly all the firmware.
[*]Does this method trip Knox?
A: No, it doesn't. And flashing back to stock will allow Knox to work again, as long as you didn't flash files from other sources (there are some that will trip Knox, so be careful).
[*]Does Samsung Pay work?
A: No, sorry. They can detect the rooted boot environment through a driver, so you can't even hide root from the app using RootCloak.
[*]Does Android Pay work?
A: It does, but you have to make a change that disables root and then reboot your phone. You can toggle this back/forth without flashing, but you either get root or Android Pay at any one time.
[*]What happens if I brick my phone?
A: As long as there are stock images to flash back to, it's almost impossible to do this no matter how badly the process goes. Check that we have stock images; if we do, then we can always flash them over the device using the unroot method in this guide. That practically guarantees a return-to-stock experience for a phone as long as it doesn't have any serious physical damage preventing it from powering on.
[*]I installed the ADB system-wide on my Windows computer/laptop, but I see "'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file".
A: Your user profile path can't contain a space. That means if your Windows user is 'Somebody Nice' and thus your Windows user path is 'C:\Users\Somebody Nice', the install will fail. You can create another user on your computer (if prompted for a Microsoft login, choose to make only a local account) and enter a short, single-word name for your user. Sign into and use that user profile instead. Also, the path where you extract the SuperSU package can't contain a space, so try extracting them to somewhere simple like perhaps C:\S7Root.

Got mine finally activated by going through the system settings and clicking "Activate Device". Alternatively, after the 5th retry, this will automatically happen.

Breaks Sam Pay. Root will always break it.

This is correct.
Sorry, I've been away and just got back to my computer. So far it seems that I am having issues activating the device after flashing the engineer boot.img through odin. It seems that after the 5th retry it will activate and write to device but will then restart and the whole activation process will start back over. I'm trying to see if I can use disabler pro to stop the reactivation process and I'll see where it goes from there.
My S7 is unlocked and with the activation problem, I feel I already know the answer, shouldn't affect me, right?
Since it's a matter of punching in APN info

Try it and let us know. And if it works, let us know the APN info would you?
I figured it was something to do with the APN info too but when I hit up my friend about the APN info (who isn't rooted) he told me the information was grayed out so I couldn't get a hold of the info.
My S7 edge SM-G935v is working great But running very HOT!!! Any Fixes?

Well the APN info would be for Cricket. Wouldn't be relevant.

Unfortunately no, I only have the G935P and mine does not run hot after doing the above mentioned. Good luck to you and let us know if you figure anything out.

True! Thanks anyways! I was just hoping that ppl wouldn't have to spend money on package disable pro and it thus it would be a free solution.
Still getting reboots. It connects to LTE and does fine for a few minutes. Then it'll reboot randomly. I disabled the DM service as suggested. I also disabled System Update and Software Update. Thoughts?
EDIT: Also, it says Samsung in the top left corner and not Sprint. Just an observation.

What software version are you on? Did you disable the DM service AFTER your phone was activated? And just to make sure, your phone is the Sprint version?

I'm on PD3. I did disable DM AFTER activation. And yes, I'm on the G935P.

Hmm.... I had issues with it rebooting on me randomly too at the beginning. It wasn't until I got home and after a few wipes that I didn't notice it afterwards. Might want to try a wipe or two and try it again.
