I just flashed BuglessPete's Stock 2.3.7 in order to get Google Wallet, moving away from ns4g-deck. The one thing I miss so far is not having my FB contacts sync. Is there any hack/app/workaround to get this to work properly?
Friendcaster app should enable sync - I heared.

Thanks - I'd prefer an OS level patch or tweak to a 3rd party app. Maybe I'm paranoid. Anything else out there or this be it?
Possible to port the source like what I assume kushdeck did?

How come the ASOP roms don't just move to Socialite? It has Facebook & Twitter sync... its both apps in 1.... wouldn't that be easier on the battery? I dunno but I'm using Froyo Sep04 and it works perfect... even add thru accounts

Hello,
I bought my nexus s today, and i noticed that Facebook wouldn't sync to my phone! it starts by not asking whether or not to sync contacts when i install the Facebook app and continues by not responding to 'add account' in 'accounts & syncs' in settings.
I really like the option that i can see my fav's pictures.
any ideas what can i do to solve this?
but all and all amazing phone, specially after coming from here, after two years
2.3.3 intentionally disabled facebook syncing. the way to bypass this is to flash a custom ROM such as CM7
thanks. good to know, although i don't understand why they did that.

Just like what tomm posted. This change was intentional on Google's part.
CM7 modified it to enable syncing in 2.3.3 again. You also gain a lot of extra benefits using CM7
Is there any way to fix it without using third party apps?
Another one with the same problem. Even a third party app would be fine for me... Any suggestion?

Its not broken. The Official Facebook application doesn't support Android 4.0 just yet so you will not be able to sync your contacts to your device. The only method is to use third party applications. I use Friendcaster Pro and it works really well.
Unfortunately, Till Facebook adds compatibility to the official application... you will not see your contacts sync to your device
Nope, the issue is between Google and Facebook, so we won't see contact sync fixed until Google and Facebook make an agreement or until a custom ROM fixes is. I forget the whole story, but I think Facebook doesn't use Android's contact API so when you sync Facebook contacts with your phone they all stay with Facebook and aren't stored locally on the phone. If you uninstall Facebook all your Facebook contacts go to. Google doesn't like that FB doesn't let you control and keep your FB data on your phone so they revoked Facebooks access to the API.
EDIT: heres an article about it: http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/22/google-disables-contact-sync-in-facebook-for-android-only-nexus/

You sorta proved my point. More or less its not compatibility with Android 4.0 but its the Nexus S. Once again Facebook will have to upgrade the application in order to make it compatible with the Nexus S. Only difference between what I said is instead of Android 4.0 its for the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus
Facebook contact data will continue to appear within the Facebook app. Like all developers on Android, Facebook is free to use the Android contacts API to truly integrate contacts on the device, which would allow users to have more control over their data.

Facebook never updated the app on Gingerbread. Facebook sync was included in custom ROMS because developers enabled it. Nothing to do with official support from Facebook. Until Google and Facebook sort this out, vanilla Android won't support contact sync, unless Facebook starts using the regular contact API
Friendcaster is not allowing me to login (whitepage)... Is it really compatible with ICS?

If you are OK with 3rd party apps, take a look at this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20477937#post20477937
Is it possible? If so, how? :S
And how about Facebook syncing with the phone app, I mean it can be done in the HTC Sense phone app but not the stock ICS one.. Is it also possible to flash a HTC Sense phone app?
Thanks

Hi, No you can't use any sense program as far as I know without sense running even if you have sense installed. As for facebook, when you install it and run for the first time it will ask you what you want to sync, I personally choose everything but it also will allow only existing contacts. If you need to access that again to change it can be found under settings and accounts. I also you friendcaster and that will sync your fb contacts with your phone as well. Hope this helps.

No worries, Glad I could help mate, Thanks for the Thanks
Seems to pull in the contacts alright, but it doesn't properly merge them with existing contacts.
I used HaxSync to sync my Facebook contacts

I prefer the HTC Contacts app so I installed HtcContacts.apk, ContactsProvider.apk and GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk from ARHD 5. Once all your contacts sync up, you can merge them and the changes do transfer over to the stock ICS contacts app if you still prefer to use that.
Edit: I also installed Facebook for Sense from the ARHD ROM, though I'm not sure it was required to get sync working.
Hi,
I have problems syncing the google calendar with my Nexus S.
I tried different MIUI ROMs but none of them seems to work.
The sync option is not even in the "accounts & sync"-settings.
Is there a fix or is it a general problem with ICS/MIUI?
do you make a clean install when flashing ROMs? Take a look here
the official MIUI ICS ROM still has the calendar sync issue. try Swat MIUI here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1407414. be sure to do full wipe first.

With ICS, there are two functionally different versions of Calendar:
The Google version of the app that is included in the OTAs incorporates proprietary components in the app itself that allow syncing with Google Calendar.
The AOSP version, which MIUI is a derivative of, does not include those proprietary components (to the best of my knowledge). I don't follow MIUI development, but that's probably why it is not working.
As far as I am aware of, if you want to be able to sync with Google Calendar, your only option at this point would be to install the OTA version (CalendarGoogle.apk). There is some distinction as well with CalendarProvider.apk, but it hasn't prevented syncing in my experience.
