[TOOL]Easy Root for the Inspire - HTC Inspire 4G

ok so i know one of the most important things everyone needs for a device is root and s-off. without that no roms or kernels or any of the good stuff. so, i usually use the cyanogenmod guide. but with all the commands you have to use it can be a little intimidating for some people new to rooting. so to help with this, i have taken the guide for root from the cyanogenmod wiki and rolled it up into a nice little batch file you can use to root your inspire. i have not been able to test this since my inspire is already rooted so as always use at your own risk. all it is is all the commands put together so it can be easier for newer members. so here is how to get this to work. also credit goes to the people over at cyanogenmod who have made the guide.
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF THIS CAUSES DAMAGE TO YOUR DEVICE.
1. You must have adb installed and running. you also need to have it in C:/android-sdk-windows or you can edit the first line with notepad or move the folder.
2. You must have already downgraded your phone to the 1.32.405.6 firmware.
3. Your device must be connected to your computer and have usb debugging enabled.
4. open the zip provided and in the folder are all of the files nessicary for this to work. unzip them into the platform tools directory so they can be easily accessed.
5. extract the Root file to your desktop.
6. Run the file
7. look in the window and find the 3 md5 sums.
a)if the 2nd and 3rd md5's match you have achieved root/s-off
b) if the 1st and 3rd match you have not downgraded sucesfully or the firmware is to high
c) if none match don't reboot and go to #G2ROOT for help.
also, if this does not work for you please tell me and will try to fix it.

Has anyone tried this? If so can you please post your results?

i would also like to see some results so please tell me if you have tried it.

i would have to say that until this is tested by the dev that anyone looking to root and s-off their device should use the ace hack kit. it is a one step process anyone can do.
@ stumpy
you can revert your device to stock using the factory s-on tool here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1208507
so please test this so it can help people root and please keep up the good work.

i dont get why it would need testing. it uses a method that already works and i have used,i just made it kind of a 1-click thing so it would be easier. if you look at the guide i linked and look at the file its the same exact commands.

Good work dude!!

Seriously? This is not an easy root method. Ace Hack Kit has already spent the last 7 months perfecting this method and it is sound. All you need to do with Ace hack kit is:
1. Purchase Phone
2. Enable USB debugging
3. Download Ace Hack Kit
4. Plug phone into computer and run Option 1. Done
No downgrade. So its complete stock with root and it creates your gold card in the process so it doesn't get easier than that. Also unroot is part of the program and it let's you choose which RUU that was released for Inspire to unroot back to. Also you can flash any of the stock radios all in one program.
Are you aware that Attn1 has already built a program that is now "THE" Inspire 4G root/unroot program?

Agreed, there are many ways to root a device. The Hack Kit is the standard and most simple way to root/unlock your device. I am sure some one may find this handy but we really don't need another thread on how to do this and its really not development related. Also a bit of advice always test something to make sure it works before posting it.

[Q] Rooting for Newbies

I am getting my new Thunderbolt tonight. After some research, I have decided for some specific reasons I would like to root this phone. I have never rooted a phone before and would like some direction.
The first step as I understand it is to back up the original operating system. How is that done? After that what's next? What I need is the wifi hotspot feature unlocked. Is there a specific root to accomplish this? What's been proven the best so far?
If someone wants to email me personally on this, feel free. I need to do this, but can't afford to brick a brand new phone.
Thanks.
Rooting is just a way to gain complete control of your phone. There aren't different types and the best way to do it is in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996616.
Just follow those steps and you should be fine. You don't need to back up your entire operating system to root but you might want to back up your applications so you can easily reinstall them. After you follow the steps in that thread and are rooted just search for wireless tether in the market and it lets you tether for free.

I can second that. I literally just completed rooting my Thunderbolt that I received today. I followed the 10 step program from the thread (my wife thinks I need a 12 step program with my phone addiction ). It ran without a hitch just type (or cut and paste) exactly as written. I wanted to thank the OP in the development thread, but I need 10 posts so this is another one!
I believe what you've heard about backing up the original operating system is what you do right after you've rooted before you begin flashing custom roms and kernels which is the main reason you root in the first place. There is plenty of info but here's a little list.
1. Follow the rooting thread that You posted above me (Who's on first? What's on second?)
2. Install Rom Manager (RM).
3. Launch Rom manager and install clockwork recovery(first option on RM)
4. Second option on RM is boot into recovery.
5. Once in recovery go into Backup /Restor
6. Choose Backup - This is called a Nandroid Backup and is a snapshot of your phone in it's current state. It saves the backup onto the phone under /clockworkmod/backup place a copy of the backup on your computer for safe keeping and leave the copy on your phone in case of worries.
That should get you started.
Those are the steps I took to root.

Another option is the easyroot method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1005292
I just rooted my thunderbolt last night using the easyroot method and didn't run into any major issues. Had to rerun a couple steps, but nothing more than that.
I'm now running BAMF-Remix 1.5 with the radio upate and status bar clock removed.
I literally had zero experience in regards to this and am still confused by some of the terminology, so if I can do it, I have no doubt you should be able to accomplish rooting your phone!
Good luck!
I would suggest using the procedure that jcase posted. It is simple, easy, and you will gain some valuable knowledge of adb which could be useful to you in the future. The process is simple, just copy and paste the commands. The adb knowledge will definitely help you down the road, even though it is minor. Also any problems can be traced to a step. With a one click process it is tough to determine where an issue went wrong.

Easier said than done coming from someone who has been around for a while. I couldn't even figure out how to get adb installed... I installed the Android SDK and had to install the Java SDK but I was still clueless how to actually get adb going... I downloaded the ADB+Drivers for 64bit which had the adb.exe but obviously this can't be ran standalone. So being a complete ignorant fool, is the reason I ended up opting for the easyroot method. That being said, I did intially try for the manual method lol.
I knew nothing about rooting and followed the steps after not being able to do the quick root. AND learned a lot about adb. Good Luck
Your no fool. Alot of the adb setup videos and tutorials are old. It change the execute file from the "tools" directory to "platform-tools" directory. That did stump me since i had to reset up adb on a new computer. I have not been around that long, just did alot of reading, and came from the incredible forum where i turned into a flash junkie with alot of help.

after you are done rooting deffinately flash clockworkmod recovery and flash a custom rom. I trouble getting root to stay without a custom rom.
In rom manager it gives me an option to flash cwm. What does it do when I flash clockwork recovery?

Rooting my TB was a pain but it was well worth it. Hopefully there is a faster, easier method now.
Battery life on my rooted TB with leankernel is comparable to what my battery was on my Droid x, if not better
If you're having problems with getting started, you can check out this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=502010
Breaks it down and walks you through setting up ADB. Had I found this prior to doing the easyroot method, I'd have gone through the manual way as well.
Just got ADB installed and gonna start tinkering around with the manual way of things.
Good luck.

Root/Volume fix

Does my phone have to be rooted to install any of the volume boosts that are available from developers? Also if it does, is there any .cabs that fix it or boost it around 20-25%? This is my first android device and everything is great except the volume for the rear speaker.I tried the volume+ but that didnt change anything. Also i have already updadte to gingerbread and no change.
Ya you gotta root, the sounds boosted through custom kernels.

Welcome to Android. I see that you are used to WM (.cabs) Ok let me see if i can help you with a basic understanding so you know what to look for. Mods or fixes are normally installed From Zip files instead of cabs. These are used in Recovery. Things like programs that you get from the market or apps that are posted in the threads are APKs. Pretty much an Android installer file or .exe.
Most fixes here do require ROOT or admins access to your phone. There are many ways to get root on your device. I used The Hack kit as it works alot like the old unlockers for WM. Its an all it one unlocker.
The modem From WM has turned into a Radio. The Radio/Modem is still a best for your area type of thing. Depending on the WM device you used to use. The radio (Ill leave of the /modem from here out) Uses a matching ril file ( HTC Fuze) The wrong combo can lead to issues.
The stickies are a good place to start as always

Hey thanks a lot. I have dl'ed one of the hack kits (think its bubby's one click) but when I connect my phone and start the process during the gold card it says to make sure my phone connects using htc sync. Well the drivers are on my computer but for some reason i cant get it to connect using the sync. I didn't want to proceed just in case it cant finish the root so im not stuck with an unusable phone. It also doesn't clarify whether I need to flash a rom after rooting or if I can just root it to open it up and install whatever I want like I did with hardspl on WM. Thanks in advance. If I can get the right info I need I will be rooting and flashing my phone tonight. I'd just like to see a step by step tutorial of exactly what to do (if there isn't one on here already) just to make sure I do not jack my phone all up. On my WM device it was very easy (hardspl, bootloader and done.) Everything automatically installed off my sd card for the rom I chose to use. I'm going to look around in the stickies again and see if I cant get this figured out.
Grab the ace hack kit and follow the manual step by step and you will be fine. I have never used bubbies, so not real sure

+1 I could be wrong but I don't think bubbys has been updated to work with gingerbread the hack kit is easier anyway I have used both

I've used bubblys one click many of times on froyo and has worked everytime. The reason why you can't get it to communicate is because one step that is not mentioned is that you have to turn usb debugging on, quick boot off, and charge only mode. It will communicate under those conditions, providing that you installed the correct drivers.

[Q] Rooting an HTC mytouch 4g slide

I have looked at a number of tools to root a mytouch slide and can't seem to find one that has straight forward instructions. In addition, I'm not sure where to download ROM or if I even need to. I'm just trying to get root access so I can remove some pre-installed apps and run some apps that need root access. I know a lot about computers and have worked as a network analyst but mobile phones seems to be a whole different world. If anyone knows of a safe kit with step-by-step instructions, i would greatly appreciate you helping me out.
Thanks in advance!

I have used this toolkit to unlock a few bootloaders and flash recoveries. If you are on the HBOOT 1.45.0013 and use this you will still be S-ON locked. You can flash roms but with the extra step of flashing the boot.img you extract from the ROM, through this toolkit. if you are on the earlier HBOOT look into REVOLUTIONARY unlocking your bootloader for an easy S-OFF unlock...
or if you're on HBOOT 1.45.0013 feel like having some fun look into juopunutbear's wire trick S-OFF method.
The first step is unlocking your bootloader to flash a recovery to use to flash ROMs, after that it gets simple.
What a joke... I've never seen such confusing ways to root a phone.
I tried 3 or 4 different ways, they all get hung up at one step or another.
You would think someone on this site could come up with a step by step way, WITH CLEAR INSTRUCTIONS on how do it!!!
And god help if your a mac user, you are the scum of the earth.

Agreed, I wanted to go S-OFF to avoid the extra step. I was a little leery on the wire trick, but after I read thru it a few times, I felt confident it would be hard to screw up. The hardest part was the timing.
I followed the instructions EXACTLY as posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801106
Have now followed this successfully to unlock 2 separate fully stock MT4GS's. Try not to be a **** around here and you'll go far and get lots of help. If you're following either of those processes and get stuck on a step stop and ask for help and I'm sure you'll get helpful useful responses, but don't act like everyone here is out to get you, it's far from that. And don't expect someone to hold your hand thru every step of the way either, we're all adults (I think) lets try to act like it.

Root HTC One X

Ok i struggle with rooting devices if there wasn't a easy mode tool my kindle Fire first gen wouldn't be rooted. Only way i found on the forums to root a AT&T HTC One X with 318 firmware OS 4.1.1, Linux was needed. I'm not looking to put another rom on it if i lose HDMI output reason being i want to root is to use ARunchained so my phone works with my app radio 3 atm its a unsupported device and the pioneer app doesn't work with my phone only mirrors to the radio leaving me to hold my phone as i drive to control stuff (i have ibolt dock but the radio doesn't see it when on the dock). Anyway is there a windows route of rooting my device and a tutorial?

Its clear you need to research and learn a lot more before you should do any more fiddling with your device. Asking for a "simple method" such as a toolkit or one-click is no replacement for proper learning and understanding. Such methods can get you in a lot of trouble; as they enable you enough to do major damage, but don't give you the skills or knowledge to fix it.

[Q] Root/Custom Rom Help LG LW690 (Optimus C)

Hello,
I am new to the forums and android in general. Anyways, I am wondering if any one could advise me on the best steps to root and update my oldish android phone. It is currently on android 2.2.1 and has no support for 2.2.3 which is why I believe I need a custom rom.. I have looked thru numerous threads and sources but have yet to find a method i fully understand and trust, as i hear it.. you guys are very helpful and i am hoping that is true cause im about to pull my hair out at this point
Thanks in advance for any help, its appreciated very much.
Its great that you are showing interest in this. (Edited out, the device is stated in title xD).
Rooting shouldn't be as hard at installing a custom ROM. Older devices are rarely supported nowadays, unless it's really popular like the HTC Wildfire or something.
The best way to root your Optimus C is by using GingerBreak. Many users that have your device use that.
Info on other useful guides (rooting, cwm,ROMs) go here - http://androidforums.com/optimus-c-all-things-root/

Thanks for taking the time to repond/help. Anyways, after some more research I think I found a easy root solution.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13086954
This method seems both easy and very sraight forward. Could any one please confirm? Id just like a lil insight before taking the plunge. lol
Note* I would link the posts stating this does work to gain root access but i cant post outside links untill i have 10 posts on XDA.
Don't worry, the root method should work just fine.

Ok, got it rooted
The next step would be to download rom manager and make a custom recovery using clockworkmod?
Btw~ incase someone is confused in the future. The root procedure was a few simple steps.
Before doing these steps make sure usb debugging is active. Also temp disable your anti-virus as it will flag the apk as a virus, This is a false positive.
1. Download the file from the first post in the thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049944. (the easy way for me "since i don't have a usb cord" was to click the QR code link on the first post and scan it with one of the many free qr scanner apps from the play store.
2. Navigate to the download and install the APK.
3. Open Gingerbreak.
4. Click "root" and wait for your device to reboot. Thats all  "if the process takes more then ten minutes reboot your device and run it again"
5. You can go ahead and uinstall/delete the apk once you have sucessfully rooted.
The next step would be to download and install the devices custom recovery.
Don't just install any, again go to that site I had provided you with earlier that have the stock and custom .imgs with steps on how to install it.

Ok so.. I have a problem, I was about to setup a custom recovery when all of a sudden Super User decided to update and now im a little lost. I have still have root acess and all of my root only apps are working perfectly fine. but every time i use a root app or reboot my phone since the SU update i get a message saying my binary files need to be updated. I try to update them and it fails every time, I have looked though a few threads and the only fix i could find was to use busybox installer. But.. busybox will not install on my device. How do i go forward with this? I don't want to mess anything up.. specially since i just thought i had it all figured out. :crying:
Nevermind, I guess i found a decent work around, I uninstalled the update and forced it to not auto update. I don't know if this is a bad practice but it seems to have solved the issue.
I like LG' phones. I am using LG P500 and very like...:good::angel:
