I placed ".nomedia" in my music folder and still the album artwork appears in the gallery, even after a reboot.
Is there another way to hide albums from the gallery?
I had this issue too, the following advice solved it for me.
Download an app called quickpic from the market. For some reason it correctly hid my nomedia folders despite them showing in the Xoom, so I told it to show hidden folders. Then for the folders that were misbehaving, long press them, click unhide, then long press again and click hide.
My guess is manually making the nomedia file goes wrong somehow, but doing the above hid the folders I was trying to hide
If it only shows folders with pics and you want to hide a music folder, I guess the workaround would be to also have a small picture file in each folder you want to hide.

as a new user, I can't post a link, but you can find a download link for the pro version at getandroidstuff-dot-com. just search for gallery private. once it returns the app from the search result, click on the gallery private app name and it will take you to a description page where you'll find a download link. or if you can find it elsewhere, that's cool too.
once you install it on your phone, it won't show up in your applications window, but you do have it installed. it's supposed to be discreet that's why it doesnt appear among your apps. instead, to access it, you have to add it as a shortcut to your homescreen. you'll see a G.P. (Pro) selection. just select it and it will create a shortcut icon on your homescreen, which you can drag into a folder if you want. Then bingo, you got gallery private and can modify the icon and the name!
Or search for audio manager on the market, its a private gallery for pics, vids, and anything you want to hide.

here is G.P. free. The easiest way to hide files is to use a file manage like astro and make a new file that starts with . (example .private) Any folders that start with the period are hidden folders and its contents will not show up on phone but you can still view them with the manager. you can then go to the settings in the manager and set it to not show the hidden folders. hope this helps
thanks everyone for the help i actually started using the audio manager one it works pretty good.

Hi bro. Thanks for share this app, but you can have the "G.P. (Free)" with "Search Files on SD" option?
Thanks so much.
I can't restore the old albums encrypted with this app... But your version not have a "search on sdcard" for encrypted old files with the app.
Thanks (again)
I came across something odd. I download a wallpaper image and went into ES File Explorer to move it to my wallpaper folder. It moved successfully but when I go into gallery and into my wallpaper folder it doesn't show it in there. I downloaded QuickPic and checked that folder and it's in there. I don't know why gallery isn't showing it.
Anyone else have this problem? Can someone try adding an image from one folder or the download folder to a different folder and see if it shows up in Gallery please?

How long has it been since you copied/moved the file? It sometimes takes a while before the Gallery pics it up, or you might try to reboot and see if it picks it up that way (although you shouldn't have to).
Did that as you told, but not showing photos
I too have that problem

Hey mate... i too have that problem...
Here's what i know,
I'm running ICS on xperia play r800x doomkernel
The problem occured when i used a gallery lock app to lock photos from my DCIM/camera folder... the photos were successfully locked.
But today my gallery lock app showed 0 photos!! when i checked the phone gallery, the pictures were'nt there either.
I used the recover tool within the gallery lock app to get back my photos and videos but here starts my problem. It recovered every one of my ppics but it would not show up on my ICS Gallery. I use ES explorer to handle data.
i tried moving the folder to sd card root with no joy...
Here is something even more wierd... this one just stumped me!!!
when i connected my phone in mtp mode, every folder shows up except the one containing those files in sd root....
So my conclusion is that the problem lies with the files themselves and not the gallery app....
in fact, in my opinion ICS Gallery is the best gallery app that androids can have! It updates in real time... As i said, the problem is with the files.
Now we need to find a way to fix them...!

Just did exactly as you did, DL'd the pic, moved it with ES from downloads to my wallpaper folder then opened gallery and it was right there. Running viperx.
Has anyone managed to use the .nomedia method to hide unwanted photos etc? I can't seem to get it to work.
Edit: never mind I found a fix.
And .......?
Could you please let us know what the fix was?
You can hide photos from gallery by renaming the folder the photos are in with a "." period before the name.
Well use a .nomedia application from market to select folders you would like excluding from media scan. Then go to apply manager and find gallery clear defaults and data then (not sure if you need to) goto media manager and do the same. Then reboot. Not ideal but it works
Try using Quickpic from the market.... Hide pics and video and lock with passcode.

I have tried the .nomedia approach (putting a .nomedia file in all the folders I want to exclude).
It works hiding all the existing pictures, but once you have new picture downloaded from browser or sent through whatsapp, it will still show up...
Kinda annoying.
Using quickpic atm but dont really like it...
help!!!
Download quick pic from the play store, from there you can hide albums or single pictures by holding down on them.

Could anyone let me know if, when you put several apps into one one folder on your homescreen - say all your games into a single folder, is this folder then saved as a file in the device's storage and can it then be located on Astro File Manager or any file managers? And if so where is the folder located?
Thanks for any help in advance,
Kev
Whatever launcher you are using will store this information, either way in a shared_pref xml or more likely am sqlite database file. For instance, on CM10.1, which uses trebuchet as the default launcher, it's in /data/data/com...trebuchet/databases/launcher.db
Not super accessible, but yes it is "saved" somewhere on your device, but really this is just a list of the apps you placed in your home screen folder, not a folder of apps in the conventional sense.

Thanks for the help. Would you have any idea where it would be located if I'm using AOKP and Nova Launcher? Basically all I'm trying to do is to create a new homescreen icon using Desktop Visualizer to open my app folders. I've seen ways to do it using other apps such as Simi folder but I'd prefer to have the stock Android interface when you open the folder. I've noticed with Desktop Visualizer, when selecting what to launch, you can open something from the file manager and so I'm hoping I can use this as a way to open my App folders - if I can locate them.
Any other ideas are very welcome! Thanks again
