[Q] Is there a debranded north america rom - HTC Sensation

hi I have looked around the site for an answer but I am not good at finding it. I did look in the rom section but they were all either branded or were european. I have tmobile 4g sensation which I just got today and was hoping to get all the tmobile stuff out since im using mobilicty in canada.
Thanks

I suggest using the CM7 alpha unless you prefer sense.
As for sense roms i recommend insertcoin or revolution hd, both very smooth with good dev support.
Also, if there are just specific things you want to remove you can do so with root and using titanium backup.
But I will say.. you should really be on WIND.

Hi thanks for the response as for sense I have been using the phone just under a day and I seem to like the htc sense so I would go with something that has this feature. Also for insertcoin and revolution hd are they the roms which ten to overclock the phone? Mind I am searching for info about them right after this post, but was just curious.
thanks

As the phone isn't available away from a network in the US there is no unbranded RUU. You'd need to flash the EU one or go custom

man there are so many custom ones its hard to choose. I mean I narrowed my choice down to the ones with sense, but still they all look great. How can one choose?

Read the threads and see which has the features you want. Personally, I'd look at Android Revolution HD, LeeDroid or InsertCoin if you want full on custom

I am curious is to this whole radio file updates. What do they exactly is it like better reception or call quality?

Yes, and better WiFi, 3G, etc. The problem here is I don't know if the radio from the leaked XE RUU works properly in the US so you'd have to see what other users say. Otherwise the radio from the 1.45 RUU should be fine
It's just a case of reading up really!

excellent thanks I am just too curious to read but I am catching up pretty quick to it all.

Reading is the most important thing - you need to know what you're doing as it can easily go wrong and brick your phone

Thanks yah thats true. I just finished up with my phone and it now has evolution HD with latest radio. This is a great site and thanks for the recommendations.

New Inspire

Hey y'all, I'm originally a forum poster on [H]ard Forums and I just got the new HTC Inspire. I've been hearing all about rooting and roming phones and I'm thinking about doing it. Problem is, I don't know much about it. I was thinking about doing it not only for the free apps but so I could completely customize my UI. If y'all could give me the pros and cons and possibly directing me to what I need or should do to root my phone I would like to know. This is my first Smart phone so I'm very interested in this process.

Probably the best way to root your phone is the inspire hack kit. Its easy to follow and there is a ton of support for it.
The main pros are free wifi tether, side loading enabled, hsupa enabled, and tons of mods.
The cons would be if you have to take it back to att you will have to go through an unrooted process. Its not to hard but still a hassle. I can honestly stay rooted is the best way to really enjoy your phone.
Stock look
ClearD rom. Ive tried it and I haven't had any problems with it.
TPC Rom. Its stock with an over clocked kernel
DHD Rom
Android Revolution is fast and stable stock look
RCMix HD fast and stable and made with transparency.
These are the ones Ive used and they all work.
Have fun with your phone.

Did you reflash the radio on any of these Roms? I am rooted and about to try some Roms but don't really want to deal with flashing radios.

I have used both the recommend radio for the roms and the att raido. They all work fine.
I'm thinking about making my own UI interface using photoshop and creating a launch as well. Is it something that is really easy to do? I'm a big Aliens fan (H.R. Giger, not that ****ty AvP movie bull****) and would love to make a custom UI or at least make sounds for when I press a button (thinking about when I shut down hearing Hudson saying "that's it man, game over man game over!")
I'm probably getting way ahead of myself seeing that I'm still new to all of this.
Which is the best rom or are they all essentially the same?

first post noob questions

Hello , i'm buying the inspire and i've searched around the web, and found that the locked to att inspire can be unlocked paying about 14 bucks...
but then i read here in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952352
This contains everything needed to Radio S-OFF, Sim Unlock, root and installs rom manager and custom recovery on the HTC Inspire/DHD, and then flash back the stock AT&T radio if desired. Downgrade ROM is fully functional, with soundfix.
Sim unlock...
so do i need to buy an unlocked one, or can i unlock ANY insipire from att using the hack kit?
Thank you....

Part of the hackkit is the SIM Unlock. the steps in the hack kit will sim unlock the device, no need to get one pre-unlocked
OK, now that i bought the phone i was wondering if someone can point me out to a rom.
I will like something that looks stock but with better batt life more speed less lagg etc...
sense 3 looks nice too...
what i don't want its something that does "magic" but crashes or simply doesn't work 100%
is that available today?
some bonus history:
the last cell phone i've used for the past 3 years was an iphone 2g
at the beginning i wanted to unlock jailbreak etc etc
now i don't even look at cydia or anything that has to do with it (except video)
i don't know if i want to spend weeks testing ALL roms i rather like some directions on where to go.
thank you.
I would recommend the rom android revolution for your needs. Its a very stable optimized stock gingerbread rom. For sense 3.0 I would look at RCMix3D kingdom. Its a relatively new rom though.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
Android Revolution is nice, but I think you would prefer Ingersoll. It also is very close to stock and is one of the fastest ROMs out there(I am also using it right now).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1015206
You would want to flash the kernel he also made for the ROM right after you reboot from flashing the ROM...
Also right below the downloads, check out the add-ons, I found the stock animations with a few aesthetics thrown in looks really nice, such as the transparent slide down menu.
One more thing! I know you said you were intrested in running 3.0, considering it is relatively new any ROMs that are very close to it such as RCmix3D will be very buggy and slow(i tried it myself).
Hope this helps ;P
if you like the features of sense, try honeysense. its fast, good on battery life and it rocks
thank you all
i've seen some vids of coredroid... what do you think about that one?
I don't find it to be as Fast as other ROMs and all of the blue just was not for me...but of you don't mind losing some speed for aesthetics and you like the color blue, you should be satisfied with it
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
coredroid is ok but is not too godd for battery life
If you want the nwest, then rxmic3d v.1.1 , its running sense 3,0
i'm using lee droid at the moment
i want lot's of battery
i went through 3 sense ROM's before i tried MIUI and it's given me the best speed and battery life of any ROM and you can install a launcher with a sense theme if you just like the look

Best ROM, Radio, etc

Hello everyone!
I am from the Xperia X10 forum and I decided that I wanted to get the HTC Inspire and I love it!
I used the ace hack kit to root and s off and all that good stuff and I flashed to the latest AT&T Radio that was released last month as I am on the AT&T network.
My question is if this hasn't been answered a million times already:
What is the best ROM for battery life? I see that there are a lot of HTC Sense ROMS that are overclocked, I do not want mine overclocked, just all that bloatware crap AT&T put on the phone. I would prefer a nice sense rom that has amazing battery life and performance without the overclock.
What is the best custom Radio I should try out? I saw it varies from where you live but is the AT&T stock radio okay or crap? ( I am also concerned how difficult it is as I flashed the latest AT&T radio without using ENG S-OFF method with great success).
Just trying to make the transition from the Xperia to this phone is a little confusing and learning all this new material is a little tricky as the Inspire has been around for a few months now.
Thanks for your input!
Everything depends on many factors, every phone is different, every radio works better for certain areas, etc. You just have to try them and find out what works for you

I would recommend TB's Fusion ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1099202 It's Android 2.3.3 with Sense 2.1 and some features ported from Sense 3.0. Battery life has been great for me so far and never had any troubles with it. Fast and stable. What else do you need?
I've been running inspired ace 1.0.1 for quite awhile now. The dev moved to the infuse, so it's not longer supported, but it's such a solid ROM, it really doesn't need much supporting.
A lot of people moved over to seo's ROM, mentioned above, as it's quite similar.
I'm not sure I understand your concern about the radio thing, it seems you have already had success in flashing one via the best and safest method....the non eng s-Off method. Any of the radios listed in the inspire radio thread, in the dev section, are just as easy and safe, so take your pick and try them out. Just be diligent in checking your MD5's.
The OTA radio is solid and many people have had success on a variety of roms using it.
Personally, I've had better luck with the 04.11_M2 radio for the gingerbread ROM I'm running.

Wow quick response! Thanks guys!
I only show a little concern in terms of the radio flashing because I have been looking at different roms so far and they say you need to use the eng S-OFF method to flash a radio, which I don't feel comfortable doing, the safe method always implies when I root, etc, as the Xperia was unbrickable basically because of its locked bootloader.
and scott, for the radio you are using, are you in the united states?
another thing, is the ace 1.0.1 rom htc sense?

I'm running the factory OTA radio in the States and I've personal found it to be the best, in my opinion.
Also, yes, Inspired Ace is running Sense 2.1 - Click here for Inspired Ace
I personally don't like Sense so I stick with MIUI. The battery life has been fantastic on MIUI - even OC'd to 1.5ghz.

Are you looking at roms in the inspire dev section or the desire hd section? I ask because none of the inspire based roms that I've looked at endorse radio flashing by way of eng s-Off, as the non-eng s-off method is safer. Roms that originate from the actual desire hd section, may very well say that you need eng s-Off.
Keep in mind, some of the roms you see in the inspire thread are by developers who originate from the desire hd, I believe. They offer their ROM in our section because they work on our phones as well.
The desire hd radio thread, at least last I checked, definitely seems to indicate the need for eng s-Off.... All of the instructions in the op of that thread are eng s-Off based. The 'quickflash packages' in that thread I believe also specify the need for eng s-Off to use them. So it wouldn't surprise me if some desire hd-originated roms might say something about needing to have eng s-off.
(It seemed rather odd to me, that they still promote doing it this way even in light of the fact that you don't need eng s-Off to flash radios, but I may be missing something, I don't visit there very often.)
In any case, if you stick to the inspire only radio thread in our dev section, using the radio downloads available in that thread, you don't need to have eng s-Off to flash and test out those different radios. All known-working, and ready to flash without eng s-Off.
I don't have eng s-Off, and I've flashed 2 different radios, with no problems.
And yes, I'm in the US, Washington State, in fact.
All of the above observations about the desire hd stuff...are just that... Cursory observations... I may be off-the-mark a little, but just keep in mind there is info that's been intermingled between these two *almost* identical phones.
Really? Another "whats the best" thread???
Well...they say opinions are like ).(
I've tried almost every Rom/radio/kernel combination out there. And I have to say that CM7 nightlies is the best looking. The themes for them are sick....in a good way. But...I've had nothing but GPS problems with that ROM. If they ever get THAT fixed...and a few other bugs...I'll definitely be going back! Right now I'm on CoreDroid...which is based on sense 3.0. It's the second best I've tried thus far. I like the sense 3.0 live weather wallpapers...and CoreDroid is the only rom that seems to have a stable version of that.
So my vote is for CoreDroid until CM7 gets all of the GPS bugs worked out.
How does CoreDroid compare to LeeDroid? I read through all 82 pages of the LeeDroid thread and except for a few issues it seemed really good.

I used to use leedroid 3.0.3 I loved it great battery life just all around good but when I started updating to the new versions it got slow and sluggish so I tried coredroid 6.8 I have to say I like it better. It has more customization that leedroid does. It is very snappy. Also has great battery life. Your best bet is to try them both. They both have great devs if there's a problem they will address it. Best of luck!

Hey I'm from the x10 too! I upgraded like 2weeks aago and I never look back! I'm currently using the gingerbeast rom with the ota att radio. Battery life isn't bad though not the best.
Also rooting the inspire is a bit more pain than the x10 huh? At least the bootloader is unlocked rather than a load of test kernals like in the case of the x10.
Hey Mister J I remember seeing you around back on the X10 forums haha! I feel you man I'm loving all the crazy options we have on here.
J, what rom are you using? I'm considering using the LeeDroid as I am not a big fan of the 3.0 Sense for some reason.
Battery life is a big deal along with full sense 2.1 like at&t rom had.
I'm turning into a ROM whore.
I'd like to say that some of the radio.img and RIL's have really made a difference but I've not been impressed with the radio updates. I'm in Phoenix and I can't say I've been surprised with the updates. The ROM's yeah I've liked some of them and others I've hated.
Learning about the different radio firmware and RIL has really helped me understand how everything was designed and what the different levels mean.
For me its battery and GPS. GPS fix north America really made the phone worth having.
So yeah, I wish I could decide to stick with one ROM. I'm just a rom whore.

[Q] New to Inspire 4G from Aria

Just got my new Inspire 4G (at&t). I'm going to root (obviously the stock is unusable) but I am very confused. I'm going to use Ace Hack kit to Root, etc. I keep seeing posts about flashing the Radio as well. Do I need to? I'm in Manhattan with decent reception.
IS there a Dalingrin kernel that works on Inspire? If not, what OC kernel is best?
Also, I'm thinking of using CM7 or LeeDroid. Any pros or cons for either? Must I change the radio with either?
Thanks lads, cheers m8s!
You may need to change your radio if you don't have the 06.06.30 radio and LeeDroid is my favorite sense ROM if I ever go back to sense and cm7 is excellent smooth as butter but I like MIUI better. If you have a chance try it out you won't regret it. And Leedroid sense kernel is the best for sense my opinion and Lord kernel for AOSP is AMAZING

i also came from aria.. i never changed no radio, kept using the same radio that hack kit installs it was running fine but i just recently changed it to new att radio just for the sake of it....not that i needed it...
More often then not you wont need to flash a radio even if the rom says recommended. It's just just that recommended. Stay with the stock radio and see how it preforms.
Welcome.
I came from the Aria too and I think you'll love the Inspire. Since you're coming from Aria then I'm sure you're familiar with ATTN1 and his IRC channel; you won't find a better bunch to help you. Read up on the rooting process. It is more complicated than the Aria, but the payoff is greater in that you get true S-OFF and a wide open platform to experiment on once you're done.
I rooted my first Inspire manually using the cyanogen wiki guide:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=AT&T_Inspire_4G:_Rooting
The hack kit essentially automates this for you, but it doesn't hurt to read over the above guide to get an idea what's going on. Read and re-read the effen manual in the hack kit too. In a nutshell, HTC locked it down pretty good, but the chink in their armor was that it is essentially the same as a DesireHD and with a little trickery, you can get the Inspire to "downgrade" itself to an older DHD ROM that was the basis for all the rooting work done on the DHD way back when. Once "downgraded" the gfree utility frees it up (and really frees it up opening the carrier lock and SIM lock and giving you true S-OFF capability). From there, you can install any of the many ROMs available for this beast and have a ton of fun.
Is the inspire the official aria upgrade phone? Seems like more and more people myself included have come over from that phone. as people have said though the radio thing is up for debate I've switched to the newer at&t one and haven't had any issues but have heard people take both sides on the matter. I have to say for starters such with the one you start with it's always possible to change it latter.

Well, as far as ATT is concerned, its a superior HTC phone. So if your an HTC fan, it would be the natural choice.
Or if you're a disgruntled ex-captivate owner, like me.
Agreed it would be an upgrade from the aria. And from the captivated to in IMHO
It's an upgrade from the LG EXPO as well.

I must agree it was certainly an upgrade especially since the aria has only just gotten a means to get s-off. Its awesome to have this much control over the phone.

Its been a while, best ROM for the HTC ONE S

Its been a while since I have been here, good to see the unrooting process is easy now. Ive had the HTC ONE S for about 2 months now and its ok, but what irrates me is the Tmobile crap that they always load on the phone and the phone seems to reboot sometimes. I switched over to a pre-paid plan unlimited talk, text and 4GB to 100mb and I swear that my Tmobile service is now worse than before. I use that 4GB to 100MB in 2 days, but I dont really use my internet that much and use only 3 core apps Twitter, Foursqaure and gmail.
What i am looking for in a rom is less Tmobile junk, ability to use my WIFI spot or teether the phone to my laptop without getting the upsale message from Tmobile saying I need to buy the feature.
Also a improvement in signal and internet would be nice from the new rom, i am supposed to be in a area where I should be getting excellent coverage and I am not, even emailed Tforce and of course that was useless, since they say its the sim card, or maybe reboot the phone and the finale say is " we can guarantee service" yet those commericals claim that lol
If you want Wifi calling, then your options are not a lot.
Trickdroid 6.2 is one of the popular roms that is based on T-Mob. Axiom S is getting good momentum atm and the devs are very active (latest OTA yesterday) and it also supports wifi calling. Axiom S-Less is the version without Sense launcher if you prefer an AOSP feel to the phone.
I think this is about it if you want Wifi calling (someone step in if I forgot something). If you didn't care about that, then it's a different story! Check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1789812
As for better signal and internet, that is largely the responsibility of the radio not ROMs. If your hboot is less than 1.13 you could flash the latest EU radio. TMOB users have reported better signal overall. Of course if your hboot version is 1.13 and you still want to upgrade the radio, you could but you'd have to go a lengthier route (even riskier).
If you're interested in WiFi tethering check out WiFi Tether for root users, always works for me.
As for roms, Axiom S is by far the best.

I'm another vote for TrickDroid - I've been using it and it's incredible. It's also finalized now, so no more bugs.
Trickdroid for sure. It won't have Wifi calling since it's based off the international rom, but it's the cleanest, fastest, and best on battery.
Is Trickdroid still the best one?

Well I use Dark Jelly CM10, and its been rock solid for me. Everything works just fine.
If you like aosp style, liquid smooth by droyd is the best! That man rocks!!!
Hi guys!
Some really good roms around here; Trickdroid is a very cool sense based rom. The only thing i like about sense roms is the camera app anyway. I've always found aosp / aokp / cm faster. If you'd like to test some of them, LiquidSmooth is a very cool and fast cm-like rom and there's a port by Droyd in the dev forum. There's an unofficial aokp around too, which works pretty well.
I think the best thing to do is try someof them and keep the one you like the best!
cya!
Personally I think best ROM threads shouldn't be allowed. Just a matter of personal preference, on many device sub-forums they are banned anyway
Agreed "best rom" is maybe not the best way to go. I'd personally like to see a checklist of all the things that work/don't work/kinda work. Kind of like a compare feature like an online store has, so you could see exactly what you're getting in to. I've suggested this to XDA, but it probably got buried in all the other requests they get.
