[Q] NON TW4 launchers and counts etc? - General Questions and Answers

If I use non two launchers like Go Launcher ( my favourite) or LP Plus, Do I lose any built in functionality apart from not getting the counts for emails, sms etc? Is there a way to get those counts on Go Launcher?

Install GO launcher notifications -

Custom launchers add more stuff. so i think u dont miss any of the features in stock launcher

[Q] Apps similar to Go Launcher EX Notifications

Are there any addons/apps similar to Go Launcher EX Notifications? You know, those tiny number things that pop up next to icons that tells you that you have missed calls, messages, email, etc.
I need Go Launcher to run Go Launcher EX Notification but my launcher of choice is Apex, is there an alternative (preferably free)? UCCW?

[Q] Trying out several launchers

So I'm fairly new to the android OS and recently got an HTC One X. I haven't really done enough research to actually get around to rooting it, but for now I've been having fun running different launchers since I have grown tired of the Sense UI. I have currently messed around with GO Launcher EX and Nova, but there are a few more I also want to experiment with (Apex, Launcher Pro, ADW etc.)
When I switch to a new launcher and save it as default does it erase the screen and widget set up of the previous launcher? If go back to Nova for instance will I have to set the screens up again? I noticed when I went back to Sense from Nova everything I had organized in Sense was gone. Is there an app of something that will save this?
It shouldn't unless you erase the data yourself, though I don't know about Sense itself.
I tried out multiple launchers on my phone and never had loss of configurations (except when intentional).
No, you can safely change and default between Launchers, so long as you don't 'clear data' for that Launcher. Rosie (Sense) included
I've encountered some stability issues with LauncherPro on Android versions greater than Gingerbread, and it hasn't been updated in a long time, but it's still my favourite Launcher for older phones
Have fun!
Try the holo launcher. I love it because it is clean and straightforward.
Thanks for the answers, Holo kind of reminds me of Nova which I liked so I'll try it also!
I liked Nova and Apex almost as much, but Apex won out for me since I really needed infinite scrolling in the app drawer.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
try to backup every time you want to switch different launcher..
i think every launcher have backup-restore feature
sorry for my english.
If you change between launchers it can happen that widgets etc. you had on your screen can disappear due to different stuff the launchers put on your homescreen by default. Other than that all should be the same - if you didnt delete anything vital
From personal experience I favour apex launcher: it's clean, highly customizable, good looking and fast.

the diff between rom and launcher?

hey guys!
i've only had 2 smartphones till now, Defy and N4... which i love.
my mom just got the i9500 and it might end up mine.. so i wanted to use this opretunity to ask.. what "features" or actions are via rom and what's via launcher..
for example, if i like my icons to be smaller, with/out text, more slots change the rows and colums number on my home screens, change if homescreens are gonna go 123123 or like wall-123-wall (meaing i cant circle through em) all of these features are they Rom or Launcher?
and whatever they are, what is the other thing responsible for?
Both are two very different things. All the things you mentioned above are by launchers.
All of the home screen UI stuff is Launcher stuff. If you use Apex or Nova or something you get more options like that.
Things like changing your system settings would be the "ROM' stuff you're talking about, although those are limited if you aren't rooted or on a custom ROM.

ok awesome!
the reason i asked is becasue my N4 has Slim + Apex and i REALLY like the way the icons are small (no idea how i did that btw) and all of the appearence settings, and was worrid i wouldn't be able to do that with CM...

Which Launcher for theming?

I have been using Go launcher happily for a while. Was going to buy it. I started getting into theming when I found the mycolorscreen site.
Many of the stuff I see on that site people use Nova Launcher. I am curious as to what makes it so much better for theming than go launcher?
I have read before about bloat in Go launcher, haven't noticed any issues with it though, I suppose that could change when I start slapping widgets on?
So my question mainly.
What's your preference for theming launcher?
Also, I'm using many apps that go 1:1 with Go launcher. Go locker. Go SMS. etc. Are there apps to replace these? I can assume I'll find bugs if I use them without go launcher.
Any other recommended apps good for theming?

Themer is probably the king of the launchers when it comes to theming. There is a whole forum dedicated to it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/themer and the app is available from here.
I don't think you will lose functionality of Go locker or Go SMS if you use a different launcher. A lot of people use Apex, Nova, and Holo launchers because they are also easy to theme, with icon packs and what not...but still nothing compares to themer when it comes to changing the look of your launcher.

Xiaomi apps with custom launcher?

Is there any way to make custom apps appear in for example Nova Launcher? When I use it things like game speed booster disappear.
Thanks
