I was trying to install 4EXTRecovery from ClockWorkMod recovery(By selecting install zip option)

I'm not quite sure what your issue is here it's one of two
1) Can't get into recovery?
I'm assuming tht you're device is S-OFF, you're root and have CWM installed?
If yes then I'd suggest that you download 4EXT application from market see link in my signature next to Recovery...(there is a free version) which will install the 4EXT recovery for you.
I'd also ensure that you set Settings->Power->fastboot = OFF
As said above to get into bootloader it's normally just Volume DOwn + Power.
2) If you're device is in a boot loop....then...
what you did should have worked fine. Look in my signature for various links...
Download and Install the adb & fastboot onto your PC. Ensure that you have HTC drivers on you PC if not also download and install the link in my signature.
Then fire up a CMD on your PC, go to directory where adb is and issue the command adb reboot recovery ?
which should take you into recovery.
EDIT: I must add that you shouldn't post the same problem in multiple threads.....it's against the rules for a start!
pls whats the advantage of 4EXT over CWM for recovery?
thanks

Can u please check my previous post..
@lynxnoon
That's just your choice.
I've got this two systeme of recovery on my DS
With 4EXTRecovery, it's much easier to convert all your partitions on 4EXT.
At the end, all your partitions are on 4EXT => much faster and sure.
4EXTRecovery has some additional tools to wipe and format more accurate.
In addition, it's customizable (themes, fonts, colors)

If you have to take battery out again, take it out when phone is finished booting up and has started to shut down again (has a black screen) before it starts re-booting up again and leave battery out for 10 seconds... DO not quickly pull out and re-insert battery that is what is most dangerous.
Do the same again, enter HBOOT, Try factory reset? see what happens?
If that doesn't help, do same again but take phone into FASTBOOT, with phone plugged in via USB (see if it changes to FASTBOOT USB) and attempt to get reponse from fastboot commands through CMD like last time fastboot reboot-bootloader
next step is to put phone into FASTBOOT through HBOOT and flash RUU which you'll find from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1002506
you'll need the one neareset what would have come on your phone originally.

It's very rare that recovery can become corrupt and yet still partially function.
There us another link in my sig to install Cwm, but I'd personally recommend 4ext, again you'll find another link in my sig for that, there is a free version you instal the
application from market and that flashes the actual recovery
Half asleep now, so will check in later, good luck

That's great news! well done for continuing to try things and not just running crying to the service centre!
The restarts on customs can often be caused by not quite finished customs or simply incompatibility issues with apps etc.. 4EXT definitively best recovery as far as I'm concerned!
This is my first Android device so I'm also learning all the time that's why I have all the useful links in my sig as I know that I'd find them useful and so I'm sure other will and do!
Two tips - always take Nandoird backups before any significant changes and if you don't quite understand what you're doing then don't do it - simply spend more time reading until you do.

Flashing a phones radio is one of the most potentially damaging things that you can do to your device and hacking a radio file prior to flashing is highly risky.

Hi, im new to this android world, well not completely new but I dont remember it was soo hard to root about a 1-2 years ago, I had an experia and rooting was like just turning an option on, now its kinda a nightware, I have tried and read tons of post regarding how to do the rooting and unlocking the boodloader, but Im still getting problems.
Now my scenario is the following, I have the Rogers with update 1.94 so all those one clicks rootings wont work unfortunately
I tried to use goomanager and download the TWRP from it and yesterday when I go to Install OpenRecoveryScript and it worked, I downloaded and i believe it got installed "fine", after this the phone was behaving in a unproper manner and I decided to do a "Factory reset".
now today Im trying to go to the Install OpenRecovery Script and its not working, it just keeps loading and loading or searching for files and it doesnt do anything.
Another problem I have is that If i go to the fastboot screen and enter to the Recovery Option, then the screen comes black, a green arrow like a circle green arrow comes up and then after a while a black phone image with a alert in red image comes up, and it doesnt do anything, does anyone knows what is that image and why Recovery option is not working at all?
Update1: Ok I have succesfully runned GooManager, it download and installed the file: openrecovery-twrp-2.2.2.0-evita.img
But still when I go to Recovery, it doest do anything, it gives me the same error, it shows the circle green arrows and after a while the black phone with red alert sign comes up :S
Thanks, for any info you can give me.

Yes, when I go to my fastboot, my first 2 lines on the phone says the following:
*** TAMPERED ***
*** UNLOCKED ***
Flash your recovery from boot loader then.
Check stickies for gunnys adb fastboot setup, that will get u going. Its in the stickies.
Don't use goo manager for installing recoveries. I find it to be buggy sometimes.
Push the recovery through fast boot and it should install fine.

Thanks, yes the goomanager didnt work.
I was getting the green arrows and the red alert because the custom recovery was not installed properly.
What I did was to reboot into fastboot, connect the phone via usb to the phone and do a manual flash.
I will explain what I needed and how to do it, in case anyone finds this post.
To do a manual recovery flash into the phone you need to:
1- Have the bootloader unlocked, you can do that by going into htcdev
2- Download the proper TWRP for your phone, I have an HTC One X with 1.94 version from Rogers, so I had to download the file: openrecovery-twrp-2.2.2.0-evita.img
3- If you made the bootloader unlocked thingy from step 1 you should have a directory with the following files:
adb.exe
adbwinApi.dll
fastboot.exe
Unlock_code.bin
4- Copy paste the file openrecovery-twrp-2.2.2.0-evita.img to the same directory where you have those files in your PC.
5- open CMD and use the commands: "cd" to go to the directory
6- Boot your phone into fastboot
7- Connect the phone to the PC via the usb cable
8- go back to your CMD and type in the following command: fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.2.2.0-evita.img
and thats it, reboot again the phone into fastboot and open recovery on fastboot, it should open the TWRP =)
Here is a screenshot of the cmd and how it should look like when you are running the manual commands.
Weird stuff, mine is a SimUnlocked Rogers 1X, BL unlocked via HTCDev, came from 1.94 and used goomanager no problem to install recovery.
Just saying its odd, how things work for some one way but won't for the next guy.
Nice of you give detailed instructions for others how you did it.
Cheers.

Hey everyone, I just went through the process of rooting my phone using the Hasoon200 tool (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1952426). Everything worked fine; I unlocked the bootloader, flashed the TWRP recovery, and installed CM10. However I couldn't get past the CM10 loading screen so I went back to recovery and wiped everything I could (cache, dalvik, system, factory restore) then rebooted. After that I can't get past the white HTC "Quietly Brilliant" splash screen. No bootloader or recovery. Hasoon2000's tool can't reach the phone to do anything. Holding Down Volume and Power buttons just reboots to the splash screen. When I plug the USB into my computer it must be recognized somehow because it connection notification sound plays but I don't see the drive. What can I do now?
Turn on, hold power 10-15 seconds, until screen goes black, let off, press n hold volume down, press power just 2-3 seconds, let off power button but continue holding vol. Down
Than select recovery
And once in bootloader check if you have hboot 1.14
---------- Post added at 03:37 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:36 AM ----------
When you get back into recovery do the same wipe process than flash the Rom...if you have hboot 1.14 you have to flash the boot.img manually

When you get back into recovery do the same wipe process than flash the Rom...if you have hboot 1.14 you have to flash the boot.img manually

Thanks for the response. I'm able to reach the bootloader now, but when I select recovery it freezes once again on the white HTC splash (but this time with the HTC Dev red text below). And I do have hboot 1.14

Right click on you adb/fastboot folder and choose open command prompt here. The type
Fastboot flash boot boot.img

New to this phone and was a little overeager. I unlocked bootloader, rooted, installed TWRP and flashed CM but didn't flash the boot img before flashing CM so it boots forever, of course (I'm so dumb...)
I can get back to the bootloader where I try to flash my CM boot img but adb won't detect the device (presumably because usb debugging isn't selected since I can't boot into the rom). How can I either 1) get adb to detect so that I can flash the boot img with adb or 2) flash the boot img without adb?
Stumped. Thanks in advance for any/all that can help with this.

Sigh you flash boot img through fastboot
Get phone into bootloader. (White screen, 3 skating droids)- make sure it says "fastboot USB" in red
Right click on your adb/fastboot folder, choose "open command prompt here"
Type--> fastboot devices
See if anything shows up.

Hey! Thanks for replying. I'm stuck here. Fastboot flash of the boot img requires the phone to be usb detected, yes? I go to fastboot but when I type 'adb devices' I gets nothing back.
I don't think I was clear in my earlier post. I have CM and gapps flashed but it won't boot into the OS because I didn't flash the boot img first but now I can't get the phone to be detected by adb so I don't know how else to flash the boot img. Thanks for taking the time to reply to me. I realize you didn't have to.

Stuck in bootloader loop
Folks, I was stuck in similar situation as well; I had missed copying the boot.img step initially and after i did a factory reset on the boot loader i got stuck in HTC logo screen with red lines warning.
I followed the directions provided on this thread and am now able to get into TWRP recovery screen. What would be the steps for me now to flash a rom onto the device again. I had flashed the ViperXL rom prior to me stupidly doing the factory reset.
Per directions on another thread, I was trying to first have the rom and boot.img loaded using the mount from TWRP. However when i do the the step of 'Mount USB storage', I get the warning that on my computer that i need to 'Format Disk drive'. Not sure why would i need to do it.
Please help!
Thanks

Doing a factory reset from the bootloader killed your SD partition. You'll need to format it as fat32 before you can access it again. You've lost everything on there.

Is there a way that I could possibly flash wkparks bootloaders or a custom recovery without fastboot or root, this would be very useful because my power button doesn't work

If you have any recovery installed, install the one in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40249156&postcount=7
After that, there's somewhere in the forum a zip file with wkparks bootloaders that you can flash in recovery, search it.
Thanks but I keep getting an error, remember I am not rooted have stock bootloaders have no recovery and cannot get into fastboot mode because my power button doesn't work.

Yes, if you're not rooted you can't install recovery...
I'm not sure if there is a way to enter fastboot mode without power button, try searching the forum for that.

ok so i cant root my phone with this method because there is no recovery, and i should add that my phone always crashes after lg logo on first boot therefore fastboot tools are useless, i need a way to root or install custom bootloaders/recovery without needing any special boot, i saw one that apperently uses adb in the development thread but it doesnt work for me
If you have fastboot installed on your phone; pull your battery, hold Vol -, plus 3D and slide your battery in. Fastboot menu SHOULD pop up. Use Vol+ to select fastboot and your phone should reboot in fastboot mode 0.5

This method requires no use of power button whatsoever. 1st: Do you still have your omap drivers in tact? If so try this tool--> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37893247 (if not there is a link for drivers there as well) if you have used fastboot before you should be good; I have never had to reinstall my omap drivers once they were intact until I formatted my CPU; all you should have to do is run the bat file in the "all in one tool 1.2" and it will say waiting for omap device...I never had to hit any buttons or anything I just plug phone in with battery out and tool starts to run. Wait 5 sec and pop in battery and phone will be in fastboot on its own. All other tools I've used I had to unplug phone and then plug back in to start fastboot but not with this one. Choose option 8 for ics bootloaders (wkparks) and then flash any GINGERBREAD recovery (options 2-7) I believe 4 & 5 are cwm touch versions. Use one of those or TWRP 2.3 and you won't have to use power or volume to navigate inside recovery...I use TWRP 2.3 option 6. After that hold volume - and 3D on the phone and type in option 12 (reboot) and hit enter. Profit! Blue Fastboot menu should pop up and default boot option will be on recovery, just let it boot up. I hope this works for you.

I tried to use the same "all in one tool 1.2" but the process stops in "waiting for the device". In phone I have the silver/grey logo for some minutes until the phone reboots in sama state as before.
does the tool actually run when you plug the phone in on "waiting for omap4430 device" or do you start the tool, plug in your phone and nothing happens? Fastboot has to flash to get to the "waiting for device" to pop up. If you wait 5 seconds and pop in the battery right when the tool flashes the second time and nothing happens, just pull out the usb cable and then plug it right back in and your phone should come on with grey lg logo (fastboot). If that doesn't happen maybe try re installing omap drivers.

Guys i got it to work!! what i did was, (as i said my phone ALWAYS fails on first boot no matter when) I let it fail on first boot, then i chose my option in xbsall's rebooter tool while it was wait for omap i plugged in the phone immediately after the first boot failed and it then picked up the omap driversand put my phone into fastboot thanks for your help

Gday,
I did many searches and I read the " here are the similar treads found" but none has the solution. I am reading and searching for the last 3 hours, but no sigar. SO I am hoping someone can help me out.
I used this link to install my current ROM - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2445392
HTC one 2 ville
ROM maximus 10
I had TWRP 2.6.3 installed
All was working fine, only to have TWRP working with this ROM I needed to use TWRP 2.6.1. As I was not able to run backups.
So I went into fastboot USB. Run the below command.
C:\HTC>fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
sending 'recovery' (6246 KB)...
OKAY [ 1.009s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 1.501s]
finished. total time: 2.510s
And after this I guess I screwed up something.
The laptop is not recognizing the phone anymore and says the device is malfunctioned.
I cannot get in TWRP recovery anymore. If I try the screen goes black. I need to hold the power button to turn it off.
WinDROID is not seeing the device either
I just cleared cache, dalvik, wiped data and went back to factory default.
That did not helped a thingy.
USB settings:
If I change it to HTC sync manager of clear check mark either way it comes with the same message " USB not recognized".
Can someone help me out plz
Thanks a lot
I reinstalled HTC drivers and now the phone gets recognized again.
But I still cannot install anything from recovery....
E:\Can't mount /sdcard/
After I installed the HTC drivers I was able to get on the sdcard again and get connected.
I installed TWRP 2.6.3. and I am able to boot in recovery,
That's nice, but now TWRP say's I only have 48MB on the SDcard?? When booted in systeem and connected to my laptop it tells me the SDcard = 11.9GB and has 11.6GB free.....
At least the phone keeps me off the street
INstalled SDrescan. That does not solve it.
Also TWRP 2.6.3 gives different info. Like battery 66% and on another page it tells me it has 100%.
Does this means the SDcard is damaged?

you need to flash the stock recovery, then go to bootloader and perform "factory reset + clear storage".
nce done you can flash your custom recovery again and you should be fine
Thanks.

Yes..after I read your post I slapped myself.....twice
HHmmzz
I copied the RUU to the root om the SDcard. Then I rebooted into recovery. Recovery is not able to see the root of the SDcard. Only folders he can see are TWRP and CWM.
Now I cannot even get on fastboot USB anymore. When I reboot the device the screen is blinking green.
*edit*
I mounted the USB device so it popped up on my laptop. And here as well it says it has only 48MB. SO no chance to copy the RUU.
Is there another way to flash my phone?
What did you do? The RUU needs to be started in Windows

Did you reed anything about using RUU? Connect phone in fastboot mode and run the RUU in windows. You need to flash stock recovery and set your CID back to stock before you can use the RUU.

I used to install RUU it on my previous phone. I cannot get fastboot USB connected anymore. I can't get the phone connected to my laptop at all. gives me the device malfuntion.
Bit frustrated...I almost broke the phone in half
For now I just keep using it with the current ROM. Maximus 4.2.2 and sence 5.0 S-off. I did not changed CID.
I will try again in a couple of days.
Thank you :good:
nvm

Couldn't recist trying to fix this.
I managed to get fastboot USB active. So I tried to erase recovery. That failed as remote is not allowed. Then I flash TWRP 2.6.1.0 succesfully.
And now it's back to normal.
2 bad I damaged the phone a bit. I forgot the one s is a phone you cannot open to remove the battery of SDcard....thought about it while having a screwdriver in my hand and partly in the phone :silly:
