[Q] Rogers, Rooting & Unroot - Samsung Infuse 4G

Hi, new Android user looking to get into rooting my device!
So I'd like to root my Infuse 4G (for Rogers), and I've found several ways, but no way to "unroot" the device.
In case of a warranty replacement, I understand that I can flash the stock rom.. but the root remains, which still voids my warranty.
I've checked all the threads in relation to unrooting, and they all seem to be for AT&T model Infuse 4G's, which wouldn't work on a Rogers device.
Is there a for sure way to go back completely to stock, absolutely unrooted if I was to root/flash a rom?
Thank you!

It's possible to manually unroot - remove the su binary and superuser.apk (remove superuser.apk first!)
I'll chat with gtg about releasing a non-rooted return-to-stock package for Rogers firmwares.

That would be great, as I'd really like to get this baby rooted/flashed!
So if I was to root right now, flash a rom and then use GTG's odin method to return to Stock rom (which is rooted), all I'd have to do is remove superuser.apk and then.. "su binary"? (sorry, still new!).
Just to help you out, this was the method I was planning on using (to root) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1197248

Bump, if someone could answer my question that'd be awesome.

Have you heard anything on the Return to Stock unroot for Rogers?
The root I did messed up my handset microphone so I need to get back to stock.
Thanks

Unrooting the mytouch 3g...

Good afternoon, everyone. I just had my phone rooted with the Hero ROM and it is very laggy and it cripples the whole experience. Is there anyway that I can unroot my phone to where I'll have the stock Android v1.6 and still get OTA updates (I'm on T-Mobile USA)? If this is possible, can someone direct me as to how to get this done w/o paying for someone to do it for me?
Thanks in advance,

If you have modified recovery (by Amon_RA or Cyanogen) - no need to get unrooted. You can simply flash other ROMs (except official - they sucks)
All the info you'll need is in the first post of this thread.

I was able to unroot my mytouch and receive the ota update for 1.6...but I turned around and rooted it again because I realized the stock kinda sucks. If you follow the instructions, this will get you back on the stock 1.5. If you don't receive the ota update to 1.6 right away, you can use google to find the stand alone update pretty easily. I think I ended up finding it on the tmobile forums.
Thanks, fellas! I appreciate it. It should be fun to see if I can do this by myself
Last question, what is a goldcard? is it essential to have one in order to get the stock ROM back?

a goldcard is a spare sd card that has been modded to allow the unlocking of phones, usually you do it with windows mobile phones, but you dont have to for the mytouch/magic, you can just One-Click root it if you are still on cupcake.
what i am trying to say is, you dont really need it to get back to stock rom (unroot) you just need to flash a few files from my understanding...i have never wanted to unroot so i wouldnt know but if you need a tutorial, i can give you the link for a perfect one.
I used theunlockr(dot)com to unroot. They have a video and text guide.

[Q] New to Android and Rooting

I've read some topics about Rooting, but I still have some questions. I would appreciate if someone answered them. I recently bought a G2x after returning my second one about a month ago (couldn't find anything in the market as awesome as the G2x). Coming from an iPhone 1st Gen and BlackBerry Bold 9700, I'm completely new to rooting.
So, here are my questions:
1. If I root my phone to get rid of bloatware, it will void my warranty right? What if I unroot it? Would my warranty still be voided (i.e., I wouldn't be able to send my phone to LG for repair or replacement/return the phone to T-Mobile?)
2. When people say "freeze bloatware," does that mean that the bloatware apps won't execute or is it like deleting them? Will they show up in the app drawer if I freeze them?
3. If the frozen bloatware will still show up in the app drawer, will deleting them remove them permanently from the device? Can I revert back to "factory" state?
4. Finally, what are goods apps that can only be used on a rooted G2x?
Once again, I appreciate anyone's time in answering my somewhat stupid questions.
1) Yes, unroot it and you can send it back for warranty purposes.
2) Bloatware app will disappear from your app drawer.
3) You can delete, it'll disappear from your app drawer for good. Using Titanium Backup, you can backup what you want to delete just in case.
4) There's no app that can "only" be used on a rooted G2x. There are some Tegra games that work quite well on the G2x, but not others. You don't need to be a root to accomplish that.
GideonX,
Thanks for answering my questions. I'm thinking about following this guide: http://thegadgets.net/2011/04/29/how-to-root-and-boost-battery-life-of-the-t-mobile-g2x/
If root it, install the ClockWork Recovery and BusyBox, and evetually flash a ROM, will I be able to revert back to factory for warranty purposes?
Thanks
I thought rooting will void the warranty.

Yes. You can revert....Baby steps. Root first and get comfortable before modding your bootloader and flashing roms.

[Q] Root and then update or viceversa?

Hi, i got my first android and i´m VERY happy with it.
Although, i still want to make two things to make it better. Eliminate bloatware and update to gingerbread.
My confusion is that, to eliminate bloat i know i must ROOT, but should i root BEFORE updating or AFTER updating?
I have another doubt, will rooting affect functions of my phone like serving as a AP (access point) or any other???
Note: i do have the SGH-T959V (T-mobile´s) BUT it is unlocked and as i live abroad i´m using it with another telco. (Will rooting or updatind affect my conectivity to my other telco?)
THANKS in advance
Xavier
You need to first root in order to install a custom recovery, then the root should persist across different ROMs you flash.
I only encountered one ROM where I lost root after flashing, but I think that is rare.
Can ROOT be undone???
After the device has been rooted, if somethings comes out wrong, can i UNROOT it? and leave the phone as brand new???
Thanks
Yes, but I don't know how for the SGS4G.
For my Huawei U8100 it was as simple as reflashing the stock ROM, but for the SGS4G I don't think it is that easy. The closest thing to a stock ROM I found was a rooted stock ROM.
flash a stock rom with odin and use superoneclick root to unroot the phone. simple at that.

Help with my Rogers Infuse 4g

I am a noobie that is true. I recently rooted my phone because the gpps was not working and the steps to improve gps did not work. It may be that my phone is defective.
So I went to the thread that detailed how to unroot my phone and bring it back to stock but it is confusing to me.
Here is my dillemma:
"Okay so from the help of GTG I removed the Root off the stock rom."
What is GTG??
There are a list of things to do. Do you all of them?
1. INFUSE 4G -- BACK TO STOCK 2.3.3 GINGERBREAD METHOD --
2. RETURN TO UXKG3 KERNEL:
3. MAKE SURE VOODOOLAG FIX IS DISABLED!
So, what do I do? It is a bit cryptic and I need a fairly detailed step by step to bring my phone back to stock.
Thanks!

So did you read the info and directions...?
Gtg is the name of the dev that put together the method and thread where you got your info from...
I took a gamble and figured that I just need to follow step 1. I am hoping that it works...
I did what the Odin steps detailed. factory reset my phone. Tried to remove Superuser and busybox but could not. Now what? Do I go to step 2. ?
I read through the thread on Rogers and the last post reads:
"Thanks, but I don't want to flash an unsigned kernel first, as that will void my warranty. I need a pure stock package because I'm just moving from non-root AT&T to non-root Rogers."
So does it really bring my phone back to stock? And if I can't remove Superuser and Busybox from system I can't return my phone to rogers.
Yes...

Ok I have tried countless times following the steps to bring my Rogers phone back its retail stock condition and I am not at all successful. Can someone who has done this please write the steps out in a manner that even a non developer could follow?
Basically what you are doing is the same thing as rooting the phone, but instead of the rooted kernel you are using the unrooted kernel (the second link in the root thread)
So it's like this:
Rooted Kernel = Odin_Infused_Gingerbread_Kernel_v1.zip
Stock Kernel = Odin_Stock_Rogers_UXKG3_Kernel.zip
they are both flashed the same way, through odin.
Before you start anything you have to make sure voodoo lagfix is disabled (check if there is a voodoo folder on your internal memory, check if there is a disable-lagfix folder inside. If not, make one)
What you want to do is flash the rooted kernel first, then the stock kernel. You then do as is said in the instructions:
Download Root explorer from market & locate and delete:
/system/xbin/su
/system/xbin/busybox
/system/app/Superuser
after that factory reset (settings > privacy > factory reset) and you will lose root and be completely stock.
I, myself am having trouble finding a working link to download:
Odin_Stock_Rogers_UXKG3_Kernel.zip
Does anyone know where I can download this, please?

Thanks! I was able to get my phone back to stock and started over. ICS is back on my phone. Hopefully this will be the last issue for a little while!

Soon getting my precious RAZR HD

So, in a week I'm getting my RAZR HD from Canada (not sure if it was Fido or Rogers), unlocked and unused. Now, I would like to do some modifications to it, and I need some help since I'm coming from Galaxy Nexus, where everything is just thousand times easier...
Basically, I just want my device being on JB and rooted. I think it will be on ICS when it arives.
I saw the methods to root the phone, and I will use the VooDoo RootKeeper app for it. However, if there is an uncomplicated method to root the phone even if already on JB, please feel free to tell me.
Another thing - having in mind that I still don't want to flash ROMs on my new phone, just root it, do I need to unlock the bootloader? I am quite sure that Canadian warranty doesn't mean crap in Serbia, but I just don't think I need that just now if it's not necessary for just rooting the device on JB.
So, simplified - do I need to unlock the BL for rooting, and is there an easier method do root the phone on JB than the one with VooDoo app?
Thanks guys!
Have I placed the question in the wrong section or what..?
Follow the thread for bootloader unlock... Once you have that done install recovery... After that you can follow the thread which has the given steps for upgrading from ICS to JB.. For the fido and Rogers official hasn't been released yet so you have to make your own sbf file to flash... To root that you just flash the supersu package
Thanks! Appreciated.
Sorry my friens, just two more questions:
1) Is there really a thread for unlocking the bootloader, or I use the Moto site, as everybody suggests?
2) You said I should make my own sbf file? Is that something special or am I a bit unfamiliar with that file type? As far as I know, .zipr files are being flashed through CWM.
Thanks again!
Sooo, sbf files?
I'm sorry if I'm spamming a bit, but this is really important to me. Thanks.
