I'm not p1ssing on your bonfire...but,
why don't you pick another custom ROM that doesn't involve changing everything on your phone in order for you to get to grips with flashing and wiping, taking backups etc. so that you learn the process and steps involved.
You're picking the one ROm that requires changing the most as your first, it may be a good ROm but, I'd say one step at a time....flash another while you read the threads so that you understand what you're doing rather than just follow a list without any idea of the possible consequences.
Here is another ROM flashing guide
You'll also find sticky threads in both the general and development forum containing useful resources....that really should be read before you do anything that risks your device.

i would suggest flashing LBC MOD v0.6.0 to begin with. help you learn the ropes a little

Virtuous unity is also a nice ROM, easiest way to flash would be to instal ROM manager after rooting, putting the ROM you prefer on
sd and following the instructions of ROM manager. The menu itself is rather selfexplaining. Don't forget to wipe ;-)

[Q] Installing stock ROM

So ive alpharev'd my DS. Just wondering if anyone can help me with what to do next. Ive never normally had a problem before (rooted/goldcarded/custom ROM/stock ROM the HTC Hero/Desire and Desire HD before with no problems) but i cant seem to figure out where to go next with the DS. Im after installing a stock ROM woth no bloatware from any carriers.
Do i goldcard and then go for it or is there something else? I dont really want to just go for it and brick my phone.
Cheers all,
Si
Rather than instal a stock rom, why not instal a custom rom that's based on a the stock rom like LBC MOD?
this thread discusses the benefits of a custom over stock http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1164418
All you'll need is clock work mod recovery which you may have already installed as post of the akpharevx process

Its not that i dont see the benefits of a custom ROM, its just this one is going to be my mrs' phone and im pretty sure there's no way she'll ever need/use anything that a custom ROM has to offer. Which one would you recommend for someone in her shoes? Would need one that didnt overwhelm her with random stuff, in other words one thats more of a user experience than one thats good for dev's / tinkerers? Also, in the thread you posted above, it says you cant install OTA updates - not a bad thing but if i update a custom ROM will the phone have to be reset every time?
Cheers
Si
Ah, I see, although would still recommend LBC rom, it's stable & solid, fast, pretty, bug free and basically just improved stock.
In fact when my wife's contact is up at the end off this month, she's getting a DS and I'll be putting it on that.

I'm not sure if you're root yet? if you're not, then run ginger break v1.2.
I'd ensure that at this point after getting root that you take a full Nadndroid backup of your device using CWM recovery.
Then I'd replace your CWM recovery with the better EXT4 recovery, which is built on the same code base, but easier to use and has many more options. To do this simply download the ZIP file onto your SD card boot into recovery and select flash ZIP from SD.
Now for flashing the ROM.
I'd then look at the LBC ROM thread (although there is a lot of it, I'd suggest reading the entire thing). most of the information is in #1 and detailed guides are on LBC MOD site.
You;ll need to download from LBC MOD website both the ROM Itself v0.5.2 and the pre-WIPE ALL script, putting them both onto your SD card.
Then boot into recovery and first run the WIPE script from LBC which will create all ext4 partitions for you and WIPE ALL OF YOUR DATA in preparation for the clean install.
Lastly run the ROM ZIP which will eventaully boot a clean device.
You shouldn't need to flash a radio just yet (you can see from my signature which one I run)....everything should just work. Although there are RADIO install instructions and the actual downloads available on the LBC website.

[Q] Need some help with installing ICS

Hi guys I want to install Virtuous Inquisition and need some help.
I am used to just downloading a ROM, and flashing via ROM manager... however in the virtuous inquisition thread it says you must install new firmware and says something about SuperCID.
Can someone please explain to me what SuperCID is, and how I install the correct firmware. I have read some of the guides but it doesnt make much sense - they seem to be aimed at people who already know what they are doing lol.
Also, if i do install this new firmware, would I still be able to go back to my old rom (android revolution HD sense 3.0) via my backup?
Thanks a lot to anyone who can help.
Install adb +fastboot drivers
Install device drivers
Nav in cmd to fastboot. (Find the sticky for supercid)
Download the 3.24 firmware. PG58.IMG and place it on your sd card.
Find the ics rom you want and put it on your sd card in no folders.
Download android revolutions superwipe script (zip) put on root of sd card.
Boot phone into bootloader (volume down plus power)
It will update your firmware to 3.24 (PG58.IMG)
Once finished choose recovery.
Find superwipe script and flash it.
Find tour ics rom and flash it. Enjoy.
Sorry for being short. Im at work and cant go grab links for you. But that is a quick run down of what you need to do granted you are already s-off and have a custom recovery installed.
Once you have successfully upgraded to ics delete the PG58.IMG zip off of your sd card.

well then you know the basic stuff on how to install ICS to your phone.
1) What you need to do now, is to follow step four(4) on this page.
follow step 4, to get CID
when you got that right, you cid should be 11111111.
2)Now, you need 4EXT. install it from here
3) you need to install Firmware. you need this FW, to get the latest android 4.0.3 with sense 3.6 to work - Firmware from 3.24.401.1 & 3.25.401.101 RUU
found Here
you download it, put it on the root of your phone, just as the ROMs you installed before.
4)you also need superwipe, to clear all errors - found here .look for superwipe. put it on root also.
5)download the ROM you want, i have this. take the XE one, if you want beats (note XE works on your non-xe also)
put it on root.
INSTLLING:
1a)now, do a backup in your recovery, before you do anything, so if your phone gets in trouble, you can go back. DO A BACKUP!!!
1b)start by installing 4EXT.
2)then install the FW (PG58IMG.zip) as if you would install a ROM.
when its done, dont reboot. take out the SD card, and delete the PG58IMG.zip file from your SD card. but sd back into the phone.
3)Now, you do a superwipe, via 4EXT (as a rom)
4)then install the ROM you want. (always check if the rom match the FW)
during the install, it might ask you different questions, so follow carefully..
If you cant go into bootloader, go to Settings>power and unbox the Fastboot. try again...should work now.
this is all

Locked myself out - how to flash new recovery?

Good Afternoon to all of you!
So here is my problem.
I S-Offed my HTC Sensation and afterwards installed Revolutionary Recovery following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
Afterwards I installed the Firmware 3.30 and Virtuouse S4X Rom successfully on my device. But I wasnt to happy with this Rom so I decided I want to go for Energy Rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1226564).
Unfortunalety, the flashing of this ROM doesnt worked, while flashing it said "Status 1 Error". I searched in the post of this ROM and found out that its recommended to install it with a earlier release of Revolutionary Recovery or better with 4EXT Touch Recovery.
My big problem is: How do I install 4EXT Touch Recovery when I dont have any bootable ROM on my device anymore?? I tryed the Android Flasher but it didnt work...
Please help, I dont know what to do.
Best regardy,
Journeyman91
Remove sdcard put it in card reader
download IMG.zip of whatever recovery u r trying to install put sdcard reader in computer then move IMG.zip to root of sdcard. Put sdcard back in phone then fastboot...should find IMG.zip then install that way. Hit thanks if I helped

Please tell me you have a nandroid back up to revert to. And are you SuperCID as well? If you did back up, just revert back to the prior rom, I assume stock Sense. Then go to the market or the threads here to download the 4ext recovery.
Ever get ur phone up and running yet?

[Q] got Root?

Noob questions:
Currently my HTC Sensation 4G is S-OFF using the Revolutionary tool.
I'd like to root it and install 4EXT Recovery. I have downloaded 4EXT from the market, yet with out root can not proceed further.
I have searched for how to's and read me's / guides on how to root and install a custom recovery, but all documentation seems to be for CMW.
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!
Follow step 2 from this guide to flash 4EXT recovery directly. then using the app yoi can update it when future releases comes.
Also to root your require custom recovery.. So in your case it's not possible the way you want right now.
No need to do step 3 from the guide as that is not required information your case

That's not the proper way to flash your 4ext recovery. that app is mainly to update and get themes and stuff. Use the attached ZIP file, it's pretty easy, there's a Read me file inside. then after that, flash a custom ROM, they all come with root.
MAKE SURE YOU MAKE A NAND BACKUP OF YOUR ORIGINAL ROM FIRST.
Alright, good deal and thank you so much! So after I flash the 4EXT Recovery...
So, all of the custom ROMS have ROOT already in them... will this PERM root my phone or is there something else I need to do?
I apologize in advance if I have worded or not explained this correctly...

all of them have permanent root. i suggest you to try Android revolution HD first. it's the best ICS sense 3.6 with no faults.
just make sure to use superwipe, and flash the correct firmware.
UNLESS, if you want root on your stock ROM, follow step 3 in this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300

It can be confusing knowing what things to do first and which order to do them in. Here's what I did:
1. S-OFF using xtc clip (its a thing you buy, but its cheap). That will allow your bootloader to install unsigned PG88img updates.
2. Use PG88IMG.zip to flash an engineering hboot.
3. Use eng hboot to flash a custom recovery (I used 4ext recovery)
4. Use the new recovery to flash your new rom. There are many 4.x androids to choose from (look for the first pinned thread in the development forum - huge list of saga-related links) but I'm using the unofficial cyanogenmod 10.2 stable and i'm very happy with it.

wanted to ask you since you are using CM 10.2 -
is this based on Android 4.4 or 4.2 ?
how is the battery life with it and is it smooth ? any bugs/crashes, etc ?
If this is 4.4 and Desire S can handle it, then i will flash this, else i will try some 4.2 based (probably CM 10.1?)
Thanks
