Who has the easiest root for the inspire. I've seen a few threds but looking for the simplest way
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I just used the hack kit instructions to root it. After rooted I had to use ROM Manager to flash and then update CoreDroid to get sound. You don't have to use CoreDroid, you just need to either use a standalone soundfix or flash a ROM with one included.
I think the soundfix is as simple as changing a line in the build properties file, so that may be the easiest way of restoring it after rooted.
Bubbys was the easiest for me.
Neither method is hard. You just need to read and follow the directions exactly as written
would you please point where i can find "hack kit instructions"...thank you
Have you read the forum at all? Just asking.
I read number of posts...there seems to be multiple way of rooting...on top of that there multiple versions...I was just looking for a friendly advise from someone nice who rooted phone recently and had no problems...
thank you...
The hack kit is located HERE. When you download it it comes with instructions. As long as you follow them properly it's an easy process.

Bubby's as well... I think it's the easiest just because all the instructions are live... step by step as you proceed... and you can start with a clean rooted stock rom... painless and effective

Does Bubby's one click solution require the goldcard process first? I am starting with a friend's bone stock AT&T bloated Inspire. i guess I need to know if it needs all the downgrading done prior to running Bubby's program, or it will "do it all" from a stock state.
This sure is more intensive than my Captivate flashing... *click* flamethrowers ignition ON! ,
thanks for the tips. I can't find a solid process from straight stock.

Gold card maker is included with the package.
When you first run the package, the first prompt that greets you is the gold card maker sub-app.
You can bypass it if you already have a gold card, but it's definitely made front and center.

Things that I made sure of when doing the gold card...
- I did a long full format of the SD card, not a quick format.
- format using FAT32, allocation size=32kb
- "safely remove hardware" in Windows whenever switching from disk drive <-> charge only mode, even if you're not physically removing the SD card from the phone.
- the number that the gold card maker program gives you is *already reversed*, just copy the resulting number *as is*, and paste it in the gold card generator web page.
h/t to Zonderion, his video filled-in blanks that I would've missed otherwise.

What does the term gold card mean? Why is it gold? Are we modifying the SD card in the phone or are we modifying an outside in the computer card to replace the one inside the phone?

Every phone has an ID (a CID) that says which network it's on for branded phones. Official software releases have a list of CIDs that are allowed to use the update. So if you use an update designed for unbranded phones on a branded phone you'll get a CID error.
A goldcard basically overrides this check, so you can install any branded/unbranded ROM.
This post should be a sticky, along with this video
I also used Bubby's.
The only problem i encountered was that i formatted my goldcard with FAT (the default) the first time. It didn't like that and i had to backtrack and do it again. But the second time (with FAT32) it worked like a charm.
Highly recommend.
But then, of course, you will go crazy stressing yourself out picking from the multiple, juicy and wonderfully delicious ROMs that are available!
I cannot flash roms or kernel. It won't boot recovery!!! I have stock rooted shift. How do I make a custom recovery? And install roms and kernel
Probably the easiest way is to download ROM manager from the market. The first option in the app is flash clockworkmod. Very fast and automagic. Have fun! Happy flashing.
I have that and kernel manager. Flashed it twice after it didn't work the first time. It hangs up on the HTC boot logo after I try to boot recovery
turn off your phone
power it on while holding vol down.
does the first line say S-OFF or S-ON?
S on I didn't do nand
I've tried a few more things. I used visionary to root my phone. Was that the wrong thing? It all works. But I can't flash. Lol

Yeah if you want you can use terminal emulator on your phone just open it up hit su get your super user permissions then start the commands the first time I rooted I did it using adb the second time I rooted I lost my adb and just chrome to phoned all the codes from my pc to root it from my phone
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk
Alright!! Thank you all who have been helping. I have only a few more questions because I'm a little slow ^_^ ok, first. From the emulator I typed Su and gave permission.... now what? I looked for the commands in development and couldn't find. I'm trying to turn s off. I don't care so much about perm or temp root right now as long as I get that annoying s on to be s off. Lmao. I need commands please!!! Assume I have no access to a computer!
Check out the development subforum. It's a sticky thread by bcnice20.

Alright I have that, now its not explained there but in order to do that via the terminal do I need to dl the framework and sdk to my phone? I do not have a running computer right now. I had a crap amd system which is officially dead. It's now all spare parts. So doing the shell on a computer isn't going to work for me :/ yes, I'm difficult. Lol

the commands given in that thread is the exact ones you would need, but since you're using a terminal emulator in your phone, you don't need adb.
do step 1
skip step 2
do step 3,4,5 via your terminal
do step 6
extra points:
once you're perma-rooted, you can go straight to installing Rom Manager, and flash clockworkrom that way.
then reboot your phone to recovery, and do a nandroid backup.
once that's done, you're all set.

When the perm root method was finally developed I was at work with no access to a PC. I ended up rooting via phone terminal just because I couldn't bear to wait a couple hours until I got home.
^ Shift Faced
Could someone explain step 1 and 3 for me if I'm using android terminal emulator. I tried it but nothing happened. My device is temprooted. I download the file into the download folder. I use root explorer to extract it... where?? I tried a couple places even the root folder (Its not in SD card) then once its good how do I check the md5 from the terminal. I type Su to get permission then what? The string in the post doesn't seem to do anything no matter how I type it. Or maybe I just don't know the command. I'm fairly new to this kinda thing. :/
That's awesome. I'm feeling the same way. I don't want to wait for a computer it might be a few weeks I'm impatient now lol
Wait, I got part of it. I just need to know how to save the file to the root of the SD card and then how to check the md5sum. Once I know that I'm good to go

im a noob so let me tell you how i d/l it. D/L it was winrar file and i extracted but i can not get run admin when i right click also on vista.
The hack kit should just be a zip file, which you could double click on it and extract all. Once extracted you will see the hack ace command script file and the effen manual. Open the effen manual and read it a few times. It is very easy but you will familiarize yourself with the procedure. You can uninstall HTC sync after you have installed it. You just need the USB drivers. The manual will explain this. You should be able to right click on the hack ace command script and select run as administrator. Then follow along with the manual and the on screen prompts.

Try formatting your card, fat32. You will lose all data so back up first. There should be information in the manual.
if after you format to fat32 like wolf said and you still cant make your goldcard, use bubby's guide to make the goldcard and then use the hackkit to do the root.

Not a Rooting NOOB here, I have rooted several HTC Arias/Liberty, Motorola Backflip with Emulator and did not have problems anywhere close to this. I have tried Z4Root (NoGo), VISIONary + R14 (NoGo) and the Ace Hack Kit V12(aahk 29102011) which is the newest release. I have tried this on 2 PC's running WINXP and on both machines I have disabled AntiVirus, Malware and so on, I have looked at all my services and stopped anything listed in the EffenManual and below is what both PC's are telling me when I run the Ace Hack Kit.cmd (AS ADMIN).
file "tasklist" is missing or corrupt.
Your PC Windows ENV is damaged and should be repaired.
At least one default system file is missing, corrupt
or the Windows PC env has been otherwise compromised.
The Hack Kit quits before damage is done to your phone.
Retry with a different PC or try a 32-bit Ubuntu Linux LiveCD.
Press any key to continue . . .
ANY HELP or a Workaround with this would be greatly appreciated. I have rooted, Flashed ROMS, and so on to over 7 different phones with no issues ever, so I know I can do this, but I need a lil help.
Thanks in advance for anyone here that can help with this.

Thanks for the info it was very helpful, I have successfully rooted & Installed ClockwordMod Recovery & SU & Rom Manager. Now the phone states that my SD Card is damaged and asking to reformat, Do I click yes or No, the SD card was changed to a Goldcard and not sure if formatting will erase those changes done by the Hack Kit. This is not explained in the Effen Manual. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

If your card is bad, it might not help to format, but give it a try. As far as goldcard, it's only needed to install the glitchable kernel/radio and you don't need it ever again now that you're rooted.

Hello everyone, I am in need of serious help. I have the Verizon Galaxy S3 4.3 and I have hardbricked the device. The phone is completely unresponsive.
I will attempt to give all the details of how I came to this without boring everyone to death with inane facts. So here goes; I first rooted the phone around November. Used Odin, had ClockworkMod installed and even managed to teach myself (with the help of folks like you all here), how to circumvent Verizon's pesky bootloaders (both unlocked and then relocked). Everything was running smoothly until I had left my phone unattended and plugged into my computer. The Verizon updater forced 4.3 on me leaving me scrambling to figure out to to regain root access. I did manage to gain the root access (although, I'm not 100% sure how so) and once again, everything was fine.
I began using TitaniumBackup to starting removing some bloatware and moving system apps to the SD card. I decided that I had no use for the "Samsung Link" app and I removed it. Once I returned from the reboot, I noticed that the icon for the bootloader was on the screen indicating that it was unlocked. I the did a quick search and app file for the "EZ Unlock" app. I installed the file, ran the program, did and reset and DEAD. Nothing. I've sat at the PC for the better part of the last 24 hours, have read hundreds of posts and tried more methods than I care to count. So far nothing has worked.
I'm desperately hoping that I will be able to find my answers by reaching out to the community as I have no funds to send my phone anywhere and I am past the warranty period. You guys are probably my last hope. Thanks in advance to anyone who helps out. It means a lot.

I doubt you'll bore us here, after all we dwell in the minutiae and tiniest of details for fun. Hmm, from what I see you have a bootloader hard brick since you tried using EZ Unlock. TW 4.3 prevents downgrading the rom to pre-4.3, flashing an unlocked bootloader, and installing a custom recovery using 4.1.2 methods. Your best option will be to try the steps detailed in this bootloader/hardbrick thread by SpyroDazee.

I've looked at this particular guide the most. Where I fail there is the post calls to use Win32diskimager with the unzipped debrick.bin. I cant get Win32 to recognize the file and get error code 5: need permission (or something like that) and I run the program in Admin mode.
The only file I've found so far that Win32 does actually write to my SD card is Debrick-i535.img. http://angelfirenetworks.servegame.com/XDA/S3 Debrick IMG_s/
And then I can seem to make that run either.
I also have bricked S3 different circumstances but still hard bricked. Nothing I've tried here on xda or anywhere else has worked. I'm going to try this http://www.ebay.com/itm/281217379767?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 . It is probably the cheapest and easiest way.

It usually takes a few tries to get it to work, but if you really can't then you can always send it in for a jtag repair.
Mobile tech videos will do it, and there's someone on eBay who will do it for $30. Not too expensive.

So I just downloaded the debrick.zip and Win32 program from my link onto my laptop. I saved the unzipped debrick folder onto my desktop and found the debrick.bin once I switched the "Files of type" to "." then I just wrote the debrick.bin to a 512 mb sdcard with no problems. I'm not going any further cuz I have no need for this though. Are you saying that Win32 doesn't find the bin file at all?
Edit: I just ran it again and it worked a second time. My backup laptop is a 2006ish (maybe older) with a very outdated version of Windows and my sdcard has been unused since 2008. I don't know what else to tell you but it worked surprisingly well for me.

The Win32 program finds the debrick.bin file when I switch to "." as well. But when I click WRITE, I get an error message and the file doesnt't write to the sd card. I'm using a HP Windows 7 Pro (2009) and I have a 32gb, class 10 sd card. I will run it again to double check.
Follow Up: I figured out what I was doing wrong. I was attempting to pull the "bin" file through Win32 and should have been pulling the "zip" file instead. I was able to write the debrick.zip file onto my SD card but wasn't (on first attempt) able to load my phone. Are there any other steps I may have misunderstood or overlooked?

Have you tried formatting the sdcard and running the program again? Set it to Fat32. I'm thinking it may be the sdcard and not the program itself but I'm not certain.

VICTORY!!!!!!! - I made several mistakes in getting to this point but i have successfully retrieved my phone from it's previous HardBrick status. The steps it took me to get to this point were, make sure the sd card is formatted (FAT32) and empty, unzip the debrick.zip file, run the Win32 program, select the unzipped debrick.bin file and upload it to the F drive, then click Write. So, more or less, exactly what the instructions told me to do. Sometimes, it's the simple things that we're most often missing or not understanding.
THANK YOU to everyone and especially SlimSnoopOS for talking me through it and SpyroDazee for making such a comprehensive guide to work with. (although, it's simplicity was too complex for me. ).

I'm not turning away knowledge. I'm still very new to this and obviously have a hard time following directions. I was looking at the next steps on that guide and am all ready confused enough to not do anything yet.
What is your phone doing after you inserted your sdcard and what size card and class were they. If you got it to go into download mode or some call it Odin mode by pressing volume down, home button and power button then your off to a great start to bringing your phone back from the dead. If only it worked for mine
Where did you get the debrick.zip file? Every time I download the file it comes as debrick.img not a .zip

Edit: My SD Card is a 32gb class 10. Once I got Win32 to extract the file properly, I put the SD card back into the phone, put the battery in, and plugged phone into computer. Pushed the power button and the phone came back on.
When you go to download that file with Win32, change the file type to "." - then you'll be able to select the debrick.zip
All files were obtained here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2581166
I hope that helps.

They did exactly what I posted, which was: unzip the debrick.zip, open Win32 and change the file type to ".", find the unzipped debrick folder and select the debrick.bin, and write to the sdcard.

Did you brick BEFORE 4.3? I hovered over this link in SpyroDazee's post: "Debrick if you bricked before 4.3 OTA" and that's the only one that would download as an IMG. Press "Debrick if you took the 4.3 OTA" and it will download as a zip.
Or change the browser that you're using. I downloaded it using Chrome on my MBP.

I did brick on 4.1.2 and I am using chrome as my default browser
