sooo, here's my question, i set an app to allow auto updating, well, when exactly does the market auto update? right now i have a few apps that have an update (not a manual one) but they're just sitting there not updating, so when does the market just update the apps? is there a certain time of day it does it?
This is something I've wondered as well. Couldn't ever find an definitive answer.
The market probably automatically checks for updates once or twice a week. If an update is released before the system's autoupdate feature turns on, there maybe a period of time when your apps are a few days behind.
I figured it was whenever you opened up your market. It usually checks for updates upon opening and downloads them for me.
Hope that helps

maybe press menu while in market and click on my apps. it might depend on which version of market you are using.

Transformer just arrived. All set up and using my existing Google Account.
However, if i click on any paid apps in the market it states 'Sorry, details page for the requested item could not be found' ....
Its let me sync all my other apps, including paid ones, and it recognised my ID ...
what am i missing ??
There are a couple of other threads open on this, it seems that from yesterday some users are starting to experience the same market issues. I have the same problem and it started this morning, i don't think its a problem with your account or set up. I have emailed Google apps, awaiting their reply or a fix from other users.
If I were a betting person I'd say we're not far off an update of the market that will add a proper tablet specific section, just like itunes has for iphone/ipad apps, as any time an app is reported a few times that it's crashing/FC'ing in honeycomb, it seems to get blocked for tablet installations. So maybe it has something to do with a google reshuffle of the way apps are viewed.

You could be right but it is not affecting incompatible apps, it is any paid app, i have installed a few from your thread prior to this issue and now cannot install new ones you have added as compatible e.g. backup pro.

Yeah but I'd assume paid apps were on different servers, as they would have more encrypted data, so possibly one section could be affected while the other remains untouched during an upgrade.

Mmm... possibly, will have to wait and see, hopefully sooner rather than later.
Just started getting this today too :-(
I was getting this quite a bit last night, but it wasn't only for paid apps. Some free ones had the problem as well. My workaround for a paid app that I hadn't yet purchased was to buy it on my computer and it was automatically sent to my device.
I got it only once today, don't remember which app. But it has worked fine generally.
I got this message on a few different apps last night. I was able to get around it by either hitting the back button instead of OK in the popup. Or by going to the market through the browser and pushing the app to my device. The market app for HC is really lacking at this point. You can't even review apps. Hopefully they will update soon.

I'm getting this too.
Temporary solution is to download any app from market.android.com and have it manually download from your browser to your tablet.
I can't install from the market web app - get a notice that I "have not opened the market recently on this device" (which I have - I'm in it now..)
There are quite a few apps I downloaded from the Market to try, didn't care for and deleted. Now I keep getting nagged to install updates for these deleted apps. Ditto deleted crapware apps after rooting.
Is there a way to stop these nags for apps I no longer have on my phone? And still get update advisories for ones I kept?
I saw a thread about doing this with Amazon's store with a followup that the fix was automatically unfixed on sign-in, but I am primarily interested in deleted Market apps.
TIA for any help and advice on this!
Sounds a bit dodgy. I've never had 1 single update notification for an app that's not installed on my phone. It doesn't make sense.
Something's wrong there. You've got a bigger problem to fix than just some notifications.

What do you mean it's dodgy? I'm not making it up!
It happens all the time.
I have read experiences of other users identical to mine, but no solutions.
Both with Android Market and with Amazon AppStore.
You download and install apps, try them but then delete them, but continue to get nags to update them.
What is this bigger problem you are suggesting?
Thanks for your interest.
I'm not suggesting you're making it up, just that it sounds very unusual. I've never heard of anyone having updates for apps they've uninstalled.
As for the "bigger problem", wait and see if you get any decent advice, but if not then I'd recommend a factory reset.

Solution!
Well, this is amazing!
I stumbled on a totally non-Geek solution elsewhere:
Just Turn off Global Notifications of Market updates --
1. open Market on the phone
2. Press Menu Key
3. Select "Settings"
4. Use the drop down bar in the Notifications area to disable notifications.
I can still see notifications of updates when I open Market, but I don't get bugged and can just pick and choose the ones I use. Plus, I can still set the ones I choose to individually auto-update if I want.
Eureka!
Or am I celebrating too soon?
Hey Guys,
I have 2 old apps, which I dont want updating via Playstore.
I have already closed "Enable auto updates"
but after a firmware update (OTA) one of these gets updated automatically and Playstore resets, and while these 2 are updated, I dont see updates for the other common apps.
is there a way to permanently hide these 2 apps from the playstore ?
Disable OTA updates for one thing.
I set Playstore to auto update by wifi only, wifi is always disabled on my phone.
You can firewall block Playstore too.
I use a package disabler as well.
Temporarily disabling Google play Services will also kill Playstore. OTA updates will likely switch it back on though if it updates.
Really Playwhore has gotten so obnoxious I very rarely use it now and never allow it to run in the background.
I'm experimenting with APK Mirror now. Of course everything will be scanned first with online Virustotal.

If you have root, you can use Magisk modules to detach apps from playstore.

Apparently not.
However it appears to have little gems like the old free versions of WPS Office.
Yes a fully self contained office app that can created and edit MS docs... free.
I use the 10.0.5 version from 2017 on my N10+'s Pie and 10. I simply firewall block it to keep it from updating or doing other nasty things.
To save a docx file I have to do it twice, otherwise it runs well. I use it a lot.
I'm slowly exploring the site. It's a valuable app database I had forgotten about. Relatively secure and well rated. I'm pretty cautious about installing any app and then only if needed. So far nothing's caught my eye. One of the reasons this load has survived so long and runs so well.
Therefore, the only way to prevent updates for pre-installed system apps is to remove the official version. You can only do that if you're rooted (but if you are, it's just a matter of deleting the APK file from /system/app/ or /system/priv-app/)

If you upgrade the firmware the system apps will likely need to be updated.
Rule #1, if an OS is fast, stable and fulfilling its mission, let it be.
Any Android version from Pie and up are reasonably secure unless you do something stupid.
I do turn off from Playstore app - settings - network preference - auto update app - set to don't auto update app and it never gets updated automatically.
Runner is a simple app allowing you to update Deep sleeping apps on Samsung devices running Android (One UI).
Deep sleeping appsIf you have this feature enabled, unused (as well as manually added) apps will be added to this list. The problem is that these sleeping apps are not visible to Play Store, which cannot update them, unless they are temporarily enabled by launching.
This is pretty much how Runner works - it just launches all user installed (non-system) deep sleeping apps, alowing you to check for app updates in the Play Store. Once you turn off the screen, all these apps will put to sleep.
How to update deep sleeping apps
Install the latest apk release of Runner
Start Runner and wait for Play Store to open
Select Check for updates and/or wait a few seconds for Play Store to detect app updates
Once updated, turn off the display and all these apps will be put to sleep again
* I have almost 60 deep sleeping apps on my Galaxy S21 FE and all these apps launch in 2 or 3 seconds.
Exactly what I've been looking for, thanks.
Absolutely brilliant, thanks for this one mate.

Thank you for this app!
I installed it and it worked great, however I noticed something and need your help.
I uninstalled the app and I see that when I run the Google Play updates, it continues to update my deep sleeping apps.. My phone is the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
The changes the app makes do not revert back to the defaults when you uninstall it?
Is there something else I have to do apart from uninstalling the app?

It only launches the apps. My understanding is that there might be difference based on whatever you put the apps to the deep sleeping list or the system put them there. In case when it's the system, additional launches may change the behavior. So you may want to add app to the deep sleeping apps list manually. Though I'm not 100% sure it's like that.

The system has started putting the apps on deep sleep mode again.
I was just a little baffled because it took some time to start doing that after uninstalling the app.
It's a great app and I highly appreciate your work!
Thanks for this app .....without it my apps never update.
I don't know how samsung doesn't include this function.

The own samsung apps still update from the galaxy store even if they are in deep sleep so the problem is the google play store
well, the problem is actually with samsung because google does not support or recommend manually putting apps into deep sleep, so they don't care if samsung does it, they just won't help with a solution.
Samsung should include a solution to the effect of their cause.
And on my end the samsung apps do not auto-update, they only show there is an update available when I open them. Is there a setting to auto-update samsung apps without being signed in to a samsung account?

What a great app! Thank you so much for doing this for us!
One question: after running it, I notices how many of the apps that initiated an update remained open intnhw background.
Is there a way you could close all apps that were opened during the update?
Thanks again for doing this for the community!

Thank you. I have updated 44 apps with your app
Absolute champion!
It's so frustrating being forced to update a rarely used app before I can use it. I just want to check my the fuel prices!!!
Unfirtunately it stop working unless I remove the apps and add them back to the list .
After that it works one time
play store auto installing apps on all devices
Whenever I install something on my s22, it will install it on my galaxy tablet.
How can I prevent this.
In Playstore settings change to update by wifi only and disable wifi. I normally keep Playwhore package blocked and firewall blocked unless needed. Once a Playstore paid for app is activated I firewall block it as well if it doesn't need internet access. I avoid Playstore as much as possible and create installable backups for all the apps from Playstore so I never need to use Playstore again when reloading except for paid apps. It streamlines reloads and they go much faster.
I also use more Playstore alternatives now but always scan them first with Virustotal. A Playstore app may be clean when installed only to download it's payload latter as an "update". Another reason I don't allow updates or an internet connect if not needed. Playstore updates can and do ruin once working apps. Tired of that bs.
Thanks for your thoughts.
But this did not ever happen before.
I've always had a Samsung mobile and Samsung tablet and the mobile app never auto-installed on the tablet till now.
I don't want to turn off auto-update because thats not a real fix.
Need to find out why its auto-installing.
I checked playstore on mobile and on tablet and on browser - but theres no mention of auto-install on all devices.

You can manually install updates from Playstore which is a wiser way to do it. One of the reasons I can run Pie securely is I use vetted apps, some are 6 yo and I firewall block them. Updates bring trouble far too often. Once a system is running fast, stable and fulfilling its mission updates serve no purpose most of the time. Auto updates bring rude surprises and make troubleshooting much harder in tracking down the offender.
In 2.5 years (that's how old this current load is) I've had no malware but spent a lot of time undoing damage updates have caused including a firmware "upgrade" for my Buds+ that trashed the sound. That pair now needs to be reflashed and it's a pain to do. meh.
If you try unmark one or more of your devices before instalation on the app, did it help?
See the pictures.
Same, annoying feature, as on iPhone. On the other device go to settings/network preferences and disable auto update.
Simply manually periodically check for updates on tablet and it will check and update any apps installed if necessary
