Boot UBCD (Ultimate Boot CD) from your Android phone (T-Mobile G1)
Step 1:
Get a microSD or SDHC card that is at least 500Mb and install it in your G1. For newbies: the slot flips open just below the green call button, you’ll have to put the keyboard up to see it.
Step 2:
Get a USB cable and hook your G1 into your computer. Slide the notification pane down and select the item named ‘USB Connected’ then choose ‘Mount’ from the popup options.
Step 3:
Download and install UBCDfix2.exe which I have re-hosted on this blog here. If you don’t trust me, an alternate location is listed on the pendrivelinux.com post. Run the EXE and extract the files to a folder named UBCD on your desktop.
Step 4:
Download the most current UBCD image. Here’s a link. Move it into the root of the UBCD folder you created on your desktop and pout the UBCDfix2 files in.
Step 5:
From the UBCD folder on your desktop, click fixubcd2.bat and follow the onscreen instructions.
DONE! You should now be able to reboot into your thumb drive. Be sure your motherboard both supports booting from a USB device and has the priority for that set above the normal hard drive. On a newer Dell, you can hit F12 to directly choose what to boot off of. Not only can you still save data to your thumbdrive from your G1 like usual, but you can get to all the stuff on your G1 via the UBCD you boot off of too.

Of course, it supports USB mass storage. There is nothing new to see here, really.
Yup. the latest version of Ubuntu even includes a utility to do the dirty work for you. It can install to any USB media.
I've combined toastcfh's and TheBiles how-to's in this tutorial, so if you've already rooted using TheBiles previous method, skip to step 9. I'll make this a bit more presentable when I get home from work today. I just thought this would be helpful to those who aren't comfortable with using adb.
I'm not responsible for damages to your phone, yada yada yada, you know the drill.
IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM THAT HASN'T BEEN ADDRESSES IN THE SECOND POST, LET ME KNOW. OTHERWISE, SEE SECOND POST FOR FAQ'S. Follow these directions exactly as they are written and you won't run into any snags. It'll save us both a lot of time.This tutorial entails making the root process as fast and easy as possible, that means we won't be backing up any of your stuff (you can if you want, of course) nor will we be doing a nandroid backup, and even better, we won't be using adb to push files. With that being said, let's get started.
Step 1. Connect your phone to your pc via usb, then pull down the notification bar at the top of your screen and open the tab that says Charge Only and select Disk Drive then click done.
Step 2. Download this file http://link.geekfor.me/rootedromzip and put it on the root of your sd card by going to the start menu of your computer and opening up My Computer, then drop the file into the icon that reads Removable Disk. This is the root of your sd card. Remember that if you don't already know.
Step 3. Right click on the Removable Disk icon and select Eject. We're gonna flash the debug image now, say goodbye to any pic's, music, apps, texts, etc that you may have.
Step 4. Power down your phone.
Step 5. Hold down the volume down and power key simultaneously and keep holding it down until you see 3 android dudes on skateboards.
Step 6. It's going to give you some options, whether or not to install the PC36IMG.zip, select yes (volume up is yes) for any prompt you get.
Step 7. Once you've rebooted you will officially have root access. Congrats, but that's not all. There's a few more steps to gain -full- root access.
Step 8. Navigate to the root of your sd card and rename the PC36IMG.zip file whatever you want, doesn't matter. Just don't name it update. To rename the .zip file, right click on PC36IMG.zip and select rename.
Step 9. Download these files:

PLEASE NOTE SOME OF THE MIRRORS YOU ARE DOWNLOADING THESE FILES FROM ARE NAMED SOMETHING DIFFERENT, SO YOU WILL HAVE TO RENAME THEM ACCORDINGLY. The only one that I know of was the PC36IMG.zip file, it was named something else when I downloaded it. So name it accordingly. Right click, select Rename, then type in "PC36IMG" only, your pc adds the .zip.
Step 10. Extract the flash_image.zip and mtd-eng.zip files, do so by right clicking on them, then select Extract To flash_image\ and Extract To mtd-eng\ Open the newly extracted folders and take the flash_image file AND the mtd-eng file inside and drop them into the root of your sd card. (we remember how to do that, don't we.)
Step 11. Open up the Android Market and download the terminal emulator app by Jack Palevick, it's free.
Step 12. Make sure your sd card is no longer mounted to the computer, do so by pulling down the notification bar and switching Disk Drive to Charge Only.
Step 13. Open the terminal emulator app and type in these commands exactly as they are written. If you get an error, try again.
Note: After each line is completed, hit enter. A # sign means you've run the commands successfully.

Step 14. Remount your phone, and drop the PC36IMG.zip file onto the root of your sd card. MAKE SURE YOU USE THE CORRECT PC36IMG.ZIP FILE THAT YOU DOWNLOADED FROM STEP 9. Power down your phone.
Step 15.
Hold volume down and power to boot into hboot.
- It should now find and verify the PC36IMG.zip on the root of your sdcard. It'll show a blue status bar on the top right of the screen.
- After a minute or so it will ask u if u wanna flash Select YES.
- After it flashes the PC36IMG.zip it will ask if you wanna reboot. Select YES.

Step 16. Once your phone has rebooted, put the recovery.img file you downloaded earlier on the root of your sdcard.
Note: If the recovery image is named something other than "recovery.img" then rename it by right clicking and typing in "recovery" as the name.
Step 17. Still know how to use terminal emulator? Open it up and type in these commands. Make sure your USB connection is in Charge Only mode first.

Take uh break, eat uh cookie.
If you've made it this far and you've had no errors, then you now have full root access as well as a legit recovery.
Time to flash a ROM and the latest radio.
Step 18. Power down your phone and power it back on by holding down the Volume Up and Power key.
Step 19. Select BOOTLOADER then select Recovery.
Step 20. Select Wipe: Select wipe data factory reset then select wipe dalvik cache.
Step 21. Downlaod any ROM you'd like, I'm running BuglessPete's Bugless Beast ROM, here's the link if you want to run this one as well http://bit.ly/az4cWq
Step 22. Download the latest radio here http://link.geekfor.me/radio139000531
Step 23. In recovery mode, select the USB-MS toggle option, this mounts your sd card to your pc.
Step 24. Move your newly downloaded ROM and radio to the root of your sd card by dropping them onto the Removable Disk icon on your computer.
Step 25. Press the power key to disable USB-MS toggle.
Step 26. Select Flash Zip From Sdcard.
Step 27. Select the ROM you downloaded and you will be prompted whether or not you want to flash the file, follow through with the power key.
Step 28. Select flash zip from sdcard, then select the latest radio .zip file that you just downloaded and flash that mf'er.
Step 29. Try not to freak out when you see a static image of a phone with green arrows circling around it. Wait...
Step 30. Select Reboot System Now.
And that's it, you're done!

Problems flashing a ROM after you've completed the process?
This is more than likely on account of the Dev who made the ROM not signing it, tell them if they sign it that you'll love them forever. Or switch to Koush's recovery. ATTENTION: To the few getting the not enough space error when flashing the recovery image, Amon Ra has addressed the issue here, to no avail according to those who have tried his alternative recovery. At least we now know what the cause of the error is. Thanks again, Amon Ra.

You have a bad block in your recovery (like a bad sector on your harddisk), these bad blocks are skipped when flashing. A bad block means you have less usable space on your recovery partition, hence the not enough space left to flash this recovery...
I made this recovery specially for you, it's 1MB less than the normal recovery (left out the evo charging stuff), all functions of the normal recovery should still work. Could you please give it a try and let me know?

Oh, so the only difference is instead of using ADB you're using the "terminal emulator" app.
It's a good guide and am sure it works. But if you know how to use ADB, I'd actually prefer ADB. It's much easier to type on your keyboard.
But GREAT guide none-the-less. For people who don't know how to use ADB.
It's not so much that people can't fiure out how to use ADB as it is they can't figure out how to install and run it. Even when I first got into Android I had no clue it was used through a cmd prompt for the first 2 weeks.

Exactly. Also, it's for those who rooted using TheBiles Idiot Proof method and were confused as to whether or not they could follow through with toastcfh's part 2nd part on gaining full root access.
Re: (How-To) FULL ROOT WITHOUT ADB.
ADB is just easier, in my opinion. I like bring able to easily copy and paste and type with a real keyboard. Plus, it's just good to know how to use. Not that I don't use the terminal on the phone, though! BTEP, for the win.

Totally agreed. But this method is meant to make rooting as fast and easy as possible (for those who don't know how to neither set up, nor use adb, as setting it up as well as familiarizing yourself with it takes time) Although learning adb is a definite must.
i'm a "noob" and ive had my evo since the release and have been tring to acomplish full root without any luck using adb bs this is the easiest most well explaid way to do so and i am more greatful than words could express. if i can find a way to donate with out a credit card i will gladly help ur cause keep up the great work

Exactly! It took me 2 solid days of searching for the required driver for my laptop. I finally got it to work last night. None of the instructions on xda worked. The USB remover listed here didn't work, the driver in the SDK kit didn't work, nothing worked. I finally found another download for the USB remover and another link to a 32-bit driver that finally worked.

It's pretty much the fastest/easiest (if you don't have adb set up) way to get full root access on your Evo, so...yes, that'd be a good idea. Lol

Oh yeah, start from step 9 since you're coming from the first part of TheBiles Idiot Proof guide.
This is a guide for all those who want to have S-off for their HTC Desire S !!!
I will try to elaborate as much possible so that you understand this easily !
Need :
1. HTC desire S with S-ON
2. Hboot : 0.98.0000 (this the only 1 supported for now. Please check the Hboot version before you proceed else it might brick your phone)
3. No need for any drivers or anything nor HTC sync
Linux system :
I used Ubuntu 11.04. But this manual would work for all Linux Systems.
1. Go to http://alpharev.nl/x/beta/
2. Click on Download for Linux
3. Now download the package
4. Now go to the location where this package you have downloaded and extract it to find Alpharevx file.
5. Next take your HTC Desire S. Goto Menu>Settings>Applications>development and turn USB debugging mode on.
6. Now connect your phone to the computer and select Charge only mode.
7. Now open terminal and go to location where you have Alpharevx and type sudo ./alpharevx in the terminal.
8. It would detect your phone, show you you serial number and ask for Beta key.
9. Now on the http://alpharev.nl/x/beta/ enter this serial along with selecting your model and Hboot version.
10. Press generate to get the beta key.
11. Now copy this key as it is and paste in the terminal and press enter.
12. Within 5 min your phone should be unlocked. You can see your phone restart couple of times during this period and then see that its S Off.
13. You will get a message Complete and option if you want to download Clockworkmod recovery.In case cell hangs or any issues. Start again from step 1.
14. I would suggest you say yes to it. It downloads and installs it.
15.Once you get the message that its complete. You can Unplug your phone and enjoy the Power of Android now.

ASAIK: you have to use
sudo ./alpharevx
this tool needs admin rights. When you start it without your phone will not be found. It happened to me too. Afterwards i tried sudo and it worked perfect.

I was able to s-off my device but during the installation of clockwork mod, nothing happens. do i need to start again to step 1? thanks
I used XTC Clip so i have no idea what this is, but it seems like a very detailed and helpful guide. Will be pretty useful for newbies.
Does it work straight off the bat without having to download things such as android SDK? Thinking of getting an ubuntu live cd and using that.

Rooting with AlphaRevX using Ubuntu:
For those who want to use Ubuntu (it's not that difficult once you get used to it):
1. Download Ubuntu from the Ubuntu site.
2. Burn image onto CD/DVD (follow instructions provided at the site. If you have Windows 7, you can simply use the Windows Disk Image Burner program).
3. Reboot computer. Allow Bootup popup menu (usually F8?).
4. Select DVD/CD-drive.
5. Wait a bit for things to load. Choose "Try" aka Live CD Mode, no need to install, unless you want Ubuntu.
6. Connect phone, making sure that Debugging Mode is enabled. Download AlphaRevx for Linux (Firefox included with Ubuntu). Keep that browser window open.
7. Extract the downloaded file and make sure it's at the root directory (in Ubuntu, that's Ubuntu/Ubuntu, if I recall correctly).
8. Search for the Terminal (Windows key pops up the search, I think; otherwise, it's the icon on the top left corner of your screen), run Terminal.
9. Type in "sudo ./alpharevx".
10. It'll provide a key. Go back to the browser window where you downloaded Alpharevx - there's a form to fill out. Type in the key. It'll generate a second key. Type that key into the Terminal.
11. Make sure it says that everything is successful. It'll ask if you want to flash Clockwork. Type in "Y".
12. Once it shows success, reboot.
Never had any permissions problems, but sudo su between step 8 and 9 if you do.

guys, having problem, stuck at downloading recovery for your phone.... how long does it takes usually? how can I end it?
Thanks for the guides. Used Ubuntu's wubi installer to get Ubuntu onto my second hard drive then just deleted it from the hard drive after I was done.
Flashing a rom is very easy. You need to make sure you have Clockwork Recovery installed which the AlphaRev X tool actually does for you.
You'll need to install titanium backup from the market to backup any apps if you want to, as all your apps will be removed when you do this.
1) Download the rom you want to install; it should be a .zip file; and put it onto the root of your sd card (this means copy it straight over into the sd card and not into any folders within it)
2) Remove the battery from your Desire S and replace it, this makes sure your phone is not fast booting when you turn it off and on.
3) Turn your phone on while holding down both the Power button and the Volume down button. This will boot you into Clockwork Recovery.
4) Using volume up and volume down to move up and down the selections, and power button to select, go to wipe data/factory reset. THIS WILL WIPE ALL YOUR DATA BUT NOT ERASE YOUR SD CARD. Follow it through.
5) Now select 'install zip from sdcard'.
6) Locate the zip file and select it using the power button. Select the option to install it.
7) Wait until its finished, then reboot the phone, you can do this by removing the battery and putting it back or selecting the reboot option.
DONE!

Definitely shouldnt take more than a few minutes, the recovery file is quite small and with your internet speed it should download in a few seconds.
You can always install recovery manually by downloading ROM manager from the market.
I made a screenshot for those who are new to Ubuntu/Linux. Hope this helps.

I mean after sometime depending on your net speed don't you get a message that Clockworkmod installed...
No you don't have to repeat all steps just check if your phone is S-off...
If so you can install Clockworkmod manually...just search in the forum for latest 1...
Hi,
I used windows version on win7 pro x64,
it worked for my DS though after 3d try.
For windows version you will NEED install Drivers for your phone but PC Synch should be not installed or uninstalled if installed already.
In my case it went 2 times not good,but 3d time - ok, but after installing of CWM shell just disareared, however after reboot I could check that CWM was successfully installed.
PS you should run alpharevx.exe with admin privileges. (rigch click on alpharevx.exe -> run as Administrator)
PPS be patient!!! I aborted the 2d try because I thoght i'ts hanging, but next time it took about 20 min till shell disapeared...
S-off with Alpharev, Root with Gingerbreak and Clockworkmod Recovery with ROM Manager, thanks to everyone involved

1, I personally did a factory reset but apparently this is not necessarily needed
2, Uninstall HTC Sync if its installed on your PC/laptop
3, download the windows HTC drivers from Alpharevx's website and install
4, download the windows version of alpharevx from the same website ensuring you fill in the necessary details and take note of the serial
5, on your phone ensure you have USB debugging ticked (Menu>settings>applications>development)
6, connect phone to computer using USB cable and select 'charge only'
7, Extract the files from the downloaded alpharevx zip package and right click the exe file and 'run as administrator'
8, Give it a few minutes and it should be S-OFFed, your phone should restart a few times and youll eventually see the S-ON will have changed to S-OFF.
9, a message will come up in alpharevx saying something about downloading clockwork, say Yes (must be connected to the internet), it wont take long at all
10, As in vampires OP if the phone hangs for too long (alpharevx suggests 15+ minutes) then restart your phone and start again, also if it says waiting for device... for ages (like my noobie error did) then see step 5.
11, once its done it will stay on the bootloader screen, just unplug your phone, reboot and jobs a good un.

Glad it worked I was worried it didnt make sense
Is there a way to go back to S-on after having used alpharevx? I'd like to try some custom roms, but only if then I can restore the phone to factory conditions.

3. This method has been known to work on Android 2.2 version.
II. DOWNLOADING REQUIRED FILES:
1. SuperOneClick (It’s attached in the first post)
III. ROOTING THE CASIO GZONE COMMANDO:
1. Download the SuperOneClick archive on your Desktop.
2. Unzip files from the archive to your Desktop.
3. Enable the USB debugging option on your device from Menu>>Settings>>Applications>>Development>>USB debugging.
4. Connect your device to your PC via USB cable that came with it.

U just wasting your time,,
(my phone is rooted)I recently installed the android l on my nexus 5 using Nexus root tool kit.It was glitching so i installed 4.4.4.Then whenever i put my nexus 5 on it started saying google search stopped working and also gmail.So i did some other stuff.And now t is stuck on the google logo when i try and put it on.I held the three buttons and went into recover mod.I cleared the cache partition and also wiped my phone.Still it is stuck in the google logo please please please help im really scared.
Simple tutorial -
1. Download a ROM for your Nexus 5, any stable one is fine.
2. Make sure you have downloaded all the needed files for the ROM you are going to flash.
3. Boot your N5 into recovery mode and plug in your USB cable.
4. Make sure you have adb tools on your PC. If not, download the adb tools from Google. Or you can get it when you download the SDK.
5. Move the ROM you have just downloaded to your desktop. And the extra files if there is any.
6. Open cmd and link it to your adb folder. ie - cd c:/path/to/adb/folder
7. Inside the cmd window, push the rom.zip file to your device like this. adb push /path/to/desktop/rom.zip /sdcard
8. Do the same thing with the extra files you have downloaded, if there is any.
9. Once transfered, in recovery mode. Simply wipe data and cache. Then flash the rom. Reboot your device.
10. Have some hot cocoa because you just fixed your Nexus 5.
