Is it the splash screen, or the bootanimation? Splash screen is the first one you see. white screen with green letters HTC on stock phone.

It's the bootanimation. In IncertCoin, it shows an arcade-style-menu of an android whenever you boot-up or turn-off the phone. How do you change, remove or disable that?

Yeah, its the boot animation. You can replace it with another boot animation. If I'm not wrong, the bootanimation.zip is stored in the data/local folder or system/customize folder. You can replace this zip with whatever bootanimation you want

What is the difference between the bootanimation and the splash screen. I am in the process of installing a new bootanimation by way of the root explorer or install it by way of flashing it from sd card. Is there a difference or just two names for the same thing. I want to get rid of that terrible MyTouch 4G screen when the phone boots up.
Help,
Vinny
The first MyTouch 4G screen that comes on when you turn on the phone is the splash screen. The green circle with the animated "MY" is the boot animation.
Replace the boot animation with root explorer and the splash screen has to be flashed in fastboot

I just updated my boot animation to a custom theme, but it seems the splash screen loads far more slowly. I would think it makes more sense to put an animated file there, but I am having trouble finding one. Can I simply load a .zip file to the location of the splash screen, or will that not work?
As I read more about this, it seems it might not be possible to have an animated splash screen. Has anyone been able to get around this?
From what I understand the .img file for the splash can not be animated.
There is no work around that I have ever seen.

Could you just disable the splash screen altogether and just have a custom boot animation?

No the image is needed....But you can make it black or another solid color instead.
Any idea where the splash screen is hidden away?
The splash screen is a mtd partition like the HBOOT is but is called SPLASH1.I think on the G1 There was SPLASH1 and SPLASH2 iirc.
You cannot remove the SPLASH1 as its kind of like the BIOS loading screen on your computer, It checks files are there before moving on to the bootanimation (POST BIOS if you like) You could always use the first frame of your bootanimation as the splash so it looks like it hangs before loading?
Yeah, that's what I intend to do. If you left it blank, you wouldn't even know it's turning on if it wasn't for the vibrate!
Just need to find a way for me to edit my splash screen then.

There is a thread in the apps and theme section right above your post about a livewallpaper that has a good splash tool.

Yeah, just tried it. It won't let me pick my own image though for some unknown reason!
In the Coredroid ROM thread there is another splash tool in the first few post.

It's okay, figured it out. That splash flasher batch file is written wrong.
What's happening is it's converting your image to custom.img, but it then tries to push splash.img onto the phone. There was already a splash.img bundled in the zip file, hence that was the one that kept showing up!
I just went from one rom to another but the initial boot logo hasn't changed. Can I reset it or something?

The boot screens are probably the same on each ROM, nothing to worry about

Nope because the logo is the name of the rom. And the rom I have now is completely different.

Some roms don't touch bootanimation ...so that's probably it ...just flash some custom boot animation of your choice...there's nothing to worry about

It's not the boot animation. Its the static image shown just before that.
When you boot your phone, you first see the "Splash screen", its a picture that is showed for 3-5 seconds. Then you have the bootanimation.
Some splash screens you flash form Recovery and others from bootloader. It depends on how it made.
You can finde some Splash screens here. How to do that you can read about here.
Most roms ( I think all) will not flash a splash screen, that comes with the firmware sometimes, the tripnraver firmware flashes a splash screen

It's in emmc Block 0p 14
But that has nothing to do with the ROM. It cannot be viewed from a file manager within the ROM.
However...it can EASILY be changed from the Terminal Emulator or even a Terminal app that lets you run pre-programmed scripts.
See this post for a detailed explanation of how to change the Splash Screen.

This does what Bootflash does, but manually. So you can ensure it's working properly.
If you have a splash screen ready to go skip to the bold heading that says "Flashing a new splash screen to your phone"
The red script is the part that actually does the work. It's 1 simple line of code that flashes the new splash screen once you have the file properly formatted.
DO NOT USE THIS ON ANY DEVICE OTHER THAN AN HTC SENSATION!!! Other phones keep splash screens in different places. Using this script can overwrite something else that's not repairable.

I know when you unlock you get that warning screen and all and they have a logo you can flash to put it back. Does anybody know if there is any other logos out there that work on the hd?
Looking for the inital power on screen not something to replace the nexus X animated boot logo.
