[Q] [Android] Missing MAC? - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
I own a Motorola Milestone (rooted, unlocked). Two days ago a weird thing appeared: when i try to activate the wifi, it goes into a Turning on - turning off - turning on etc. loop and i can stop it just if i activate the airplane mode, restart the phone and deactivate the airplane mode. It does not see any wireless network, i can't stop it and i can't connect to any network.
If i try to see the MAC in the wifi settings -> advanced, it writes 00:00:00:00:00:00 when it is in the loop mode. In the service menu, the MAC Address appears Unavailable.
I tried to reflash different firmwares to solve the problem, but no luck. I reflashed the original rom on it, but also: no luck. I tried everything possible with no luck.
I found the 00:00:00:00:00:00 mac in sys/devices/virtual/net/lo and i want to see if the mac is stored there. I don't know exactly if that's the wireless mac address so i don't want to damage my phone more.
I didn't drop the phone, i didn't drop anything on it. It appeared from nowhere. There aren't any other problems with the phone. The bluetooth works fine so, i don't think it's a hw problem (i found somewhere that the two hw modules are the same...it's possible that i should got it wrong).
How can i solve it?
PS: i wrote this here because i saw that this happened to different persons around the world but nobody gave an answer. So, i don't think it's phone related.

Additional info:
In sys/devices/virtual/net/ i don't have any eth0 folder which i think that contains the network drivers.

[Q] wifi problems

im having trouble connecting to wifi. my phone just hangs at obtaining ip address and then eventually fails. ive tried with many different wifi connections not just mine. all the same. Anyone else having this problem?
Yes same problem here.
It seems a general problem like the GPS.
I found out that depending of the router brand it works better (for example, no problem with a linksys).
To go arround the problem you can try this:
- go in flight mode
- activate wifi
- when you have a wifi connection (test with to browser) reactivate the phone
I hope it helps

Click to collapse
Bring the phone back, and get a replacement. I have had no such problems with my Captivate.
I do notice that the WiFi signal isn't as strong as on my iphone's in the same area of the house though.
still not connecting.. maybe i messed up a flash with odin. i will try that again
the problem started when i flash jm5
problem solved reflashed

[Q] Samsung galaxy i9000 won't connect to wireless any more

Hi all,
I have a Galaxy i9000 and it won't connect to wireless. It used to connect just fine, then one day it stopped working. I ignored it for a while (3G still works) and once I finally got around to trying to see what had happened, I could see that the phone does connect to wireless networks (at home and at work), but once it had authenticated to the network, it would fail at "Obtaining IP address from <network name>". There's no error message, but the phone just sits at that stage forever. Not obtaining an IP address makes it pretty hard to connect to a wireless network
I don't know what happened to make this problem occur, it's been about a month now since it happened. I have AdFree installed on the phone, that writes to the hosts file, right? I suspect that it may have been a hosts file update which had caused this problem, but I'm not sure.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may have caused the problem?
Thanks!
what about reflashing your phone?
so you have everything stock
if this doesn't solve the problem then contact a service, or if you have warranty, just send it back...
same problem
The funny thing is is have exactly the SAME PROBLEM ... SINCE the same time?!?!
mybe we got some kind of virus for phones? ... altho i do have anti viral software on the phone. and i didnt upload any kind of stuff on it for at least half a year.

I am also experiencing similar wifi issue..except I get pass obtaining ip address it's after that I get error message "authenticate problem".??
My brothers works fine connects within second on home wifi, when I connect on same wifi I get error message..I have tried restoring previous wifi data..I have done phone reset too but nothing works
I did some googling and found brief answers not that helpful..but it was mentioned that frequency range I'm trying to connect is incorrect.
"does anyone know how to change wifi frequency mgh our any help"
question

Bricked? Wi-fi not turning on, MAC address unavailable

I've been scouring the internet for solutions and honestly I find I rarely ever have to ask questions but looks like this time I need to put one up here.
I'm suspecting that my phone's wi-fi chip is pretty much bricked.
I get a situation some people have had here before where when I turn on the wi-fi, it kind of stays there and then turns back off, so never turning on. For some people this happened to here I understand it was the wi-fi only and the bluetooth still worked - but in my situation however the bluetooth is acting the same way. I'm aware that the Wi-Fi and BT chip are the same on the XT925 so it would seem like a hardware issue.
The "MAC address" setting in Wi-Fi > Advanced shows "unavailable". But get this: when I go to About > Phone status, "Wi-FI Mac Address" is also showing as "Unavailable". Indicating the chip may have fried or something.
I have literally no idea how this happened. I was kind of sitting down outside a Starbucks in Namba, Osaka when my wi-fi was suddenly no longer able to connect to anything. Been 14 days since. Wi-fi is pretty much essential for me to be able to use this phone at all since I'm out-of-country and I don't have an active 3G/data plan (not that a Canadian modem RAZR would work on Japanese airwaves anyway).
I'm on a Canadian XT925 and was running GZR Validus 6.0 (4.4 KitKat), but the problem persists no matter ROM what I put on - even CM12 Lollipop - and through factory resets, etc. Even when my system is pretty much black and freshly installed, wi-fi and bluetooth won't turn on. Any thoughts, possible solutions? I've tried numerous solutions from deleting/replacing numerous files and even preparing "Wi-fi rescue zips" with files from other ROMs to no avail. On another forum, a whole bunch of RAZR HD users were having this precise issue on the stock ROM and solved it by deleting this flashlight app (weird, right?). Ofc I don't have any such flashlight app on my device.
If anyone knows where exactly the wi-fi chip is on the motherboard (or is it a separate component connecting to the mobo, that maybe got dislodged) I can open up the phone and have a look.

Help with my network please.

NETWORK_SELECTION_ASSOCIATION_REJECTED
NETWORK SSID: blah.blah.blah
Disabled
Okay so the other day my phone just stopped connecting to my wifi. This is an open network that you have to have an account to gain internet access after you connect. I have no access to the settings on the network side. It gives me the above reason nothing else. I know the the problem is on the phone side because i have numerous other devices connected. Also my phone ( LG X charge {SP-320} 7.1.1 stock no-root) connects to every other network with no problems. Ive done factory resets. Ive done network settings resets. Ive done resets via dialer codes, via pwr+voldown. Ive gone into the settings in my account fir the wifi to which i could not find even something alike to enable/disable, blacklist etc etc. One time i got the network to connect for about an hour by using the dialer code to enter the hidden menu and entering the SSID into the "enablenetwork" section which has not worked sense. Theres a "disablenetwork" also whoch i tried to disable then enable, nothong not even a toast notification. No matter what i do in the wifi section of hidden menu the app stops and has to restart. Ive read a few post about trying to connect with airplane mode on, useless lol, no effect. My favorite part lf all this is i can enable one of my other devices as a "repeater" and connect to the network through the second phone. Thank you all in advance for any and all help.
As of yesterday, I too, am having the exact same issue with my LG X Charge!! Never had this happen before. Totally stumped. . HELP!!!

Galaxy Express 3 (J120A) Not Connecting to WiFi - Cycles Between "Connecting" and SSID Not Appearing

I bought a Galaxy Express 3 (sm-j120a) on Ebay (new condition) to use as a backup phone. I began the setup process and tried connecting to my WiFi. I put in the correct password but it will constantly cycle between showing "Connecting" underneath the SSID, then suddenly the SSID disappears, then suddenly it will reappear and show "Connecting" underneath, etc. It will do this indefinitely and will never connect. If anyone has experienced this issue before and knows how to fix it, I would greatly appreciate some help.
One thing I haven't checked is whether I could update the software of the phone to the last available update. I wanted to hold off on putting in my sim card because I have a nano sim and I think the phone takes a micro sim and I don't have an adapter yet. Is there a way I can download any available updates to my computer, then send the update to the phone via a USB cable?
Thanks!
i ran into the same thing a while back with an old android phone, a samsung j120a. one day its wifi stopped working with the att modem i have, a bgw210. behavior was the same as what you described. every other wifi device in the house worked fine. tried every standard trouble shooting thing you find when you search this, including factory data reset, nothing. got hold of another phone same model... it also failed to connect to wifi on this modem, same thing.
the answer-> i resorted to playing with the wifi settings on modem, and found that the problem was with the wpa version setting- it was set to wpa 2 by default when i found it. i changed it to the setting that accepted both versions 1 and 2, and the phone's wifi now works again.
i assume at some point att updated this modem, and one of the updates was to change default setting on the wpa version, probably because wpa 2 is supposed to be more secure than wpa 1
just replying because i hate searching stuff like this and finding nothing but people asking roughly the same question without getting any answers. hope this helps somebody searching this in future
