i am not sure that this will work with every tethering service out there, but i am officially announcing that i have obtained an open NAT on XBL. For over a year now i have looked all over the internet trying to find a way to get my NAT open and finally i have done it. I did this by Internet connection sharing (via a ethernet "Crossover" cable fro PC to Xbox). Also i find that open garden works a helluva lot better than android wifi tether.
1. Enable wifi tethering on your device
2. Connect PC to wireless signal
3. Open Network and Sharing center (start/control panel/ network and internet/network and sharing center)
4. Click change adapter settings
5. Right click on your shared internet connection ( in this case should be your WIFI connection), select properties, sharing tab, check: Allow other network users to control or disable the shared internet connection.
6. Stay on the sharing tab and click settings, uncheck everything under settings, now click add:
Description of Service- Xbox1
Name or IP address of the computer hosting this service on your network: ( name of your comp )
External Port: TCP 53
Internal Port: TCP 53
Description of Service: Xbox 2
Name of IP address of the computer hosting this service on your network:
External Port: UDP 53
Internal Port: UDP 53
Description of Service: Xbox 3
Name of IP address of the computer hosting this service on your network:
External Port: UDP 88
Internal Port: UDP 88
Description of Service: Xbox 4
Name of IP address of the computer hosting this service on your network:
External Port: TCP 3074
Internal Port: TCP 3074
Description of Service: Xbox 5
Name of IP address of the computer hosting this service on your network:
External Port: UDP 3074
Internal Port: UDP 3074
follow these steps and i promise that you will get an open NAT
O....M...F....G!!!!!!!! I have been searching for this solution for HOURS!!!! And you my friend are an absolute GENIUS!!!! THANK YOU!!!! It worked like a mother flippin charm =). I ran into just a slight varience using Windows Vista (I know I know, its the only thing I have to work with other than 7 starter which sucks huge donkey balls lol) -
The computer didn't accept the setting for Xbox 5 (gave me an error message that 3074 was already in use even though it was set up as TCP). So I just left Xbox 5 out of the mix and can still confirm that I just got THE first successfully Nat error-free connection test my Xbox has ever seen.
THANK YOU!!!! =). I'd seriously kiss you if you were female and I weren't engaged lol
Well I'm glad this guide has finally been able to help someone..
P.S. your welcome

I still can't get this to work =(
I don't have a cross over cable, but that shouldn't matter as I am setting up a network and giving each device it's own ip, etc.
I have my laptop and 360 connected via an Ethernet cable.
Well if your connecting straight from the 360 to the laptop, you will need a crossover cable but if your running through a hub/switch/router you can use a Ethernet cable

I tried using a router and it didn't work. Would I need any special settings in the router?

Also, when you select "sharing" with your wireless card, do you share it to your LAN card? Thanks!

Not for sure about the router, but as for sharing yes do you do share it to your LAN card
I did all this and the NAT is still moderate. Any ideas?

crossover cable straight from comp to xbox
Do you set up any IP addresses then on the LAN for the laptop, or give the XBOX a IP? Or do you just leave it all defaulted?
thanks!
So I did everything you listed while using a cross-over cable and I am get a IP ADDRESS error. Any ideas?
EDIT:
Weird, it's working now, thanks! just restarted a bit and its working!
Now if only the phone app developers would fix this via their apps.

Just need to know this. If I don't set IP's to the LAN Card and XBOX 360 I get an IP address conflict. But when I do that, I still get moderate NAT.

What apps do work with this? How about the built in tethering app?
And do we need a crossover cable?

Cross over cable is required because your going from one device to another as the crossover cables are wired differently than an ethernet cable.
And i believe any tethering app works as long as you can get your PC to connect to it.

I have a cross over cable and it still doesn't work. I need to know if this requires setting the ip address on the pc`s nic card and the xbox to something specific.

What Ip should I give the lan card? I've given the Xbox and PC Lan card Ip's on the same domain, and it still doesn't work.

I have a Netgear WNDR4000 router. I am using WPA2 security, static internal IP addresses and a MAC table to control access to my home network. I have added multiple devices to my home network since I bought the router without any issues including an Android smartphone running gingerbread.
No matter what I do I cannot get my 300 to connect to the network. It does see the network SSID but it will not connect. I even tried the WPS button on the front of the router using the advanced settings on the 300 but still no luck.
I am beginning to think that the MAC address listed under the “About Device" menu item is not what the 300’s radio is actually broadcasting.
I have double- and triple-checked all the settings but I am getting nowhere.
Any help or suggestions you may have would be appreciated.
Does your smartphone support tethering? Connect the 300 to it to verify MAC address. You could TEMPORARILY reconfig your router to be open (no security) and confirm MAC address. Turn off MAC filtering to see if that is it. Get it to connect to something wide opeb and then begin layering on the security.
You have set up your static settings on the 300, correct? Sounds like you have DHCP disabled on the router...

Thank you for your response.
I did finally decide to take all the security of the router and the 300 connected right away. Then I checked the router's "attached devices" list and it did verify the MAC address that the 300 was displaying. So I was able to clear that as an issue.
I still could not get it to connect with my WPA2 security turned on (my router needs that level of security to put out "N" speeds) on the 2g network.
Right; I have DHCP disabled on the router. All my devices, wired and wireless, get an assigned internal IP address and their MAC addresses are loaded into a table.
Every other device I've added to the router connects without a problem.
I decided to send the 300 back and I'll just wait for the Infinity to hit the market.
Thanks again for your help.
Hope your next one works as it should. Mine connects fine using WPA or WPA2, multiple manufacturers. Still waiting for OTA, rooted running .17 firmware.

Has anyone been able to dual-home their windows pc using a lan with internet, and their phone internet? Reason, personal internet speed sucks compared to 4g, but would still like to access my lan files.
my ip configs:
192.168.0.1 for the lan
255.255.255.0 mask
192.168.43.1 for phone
255.255.0.0 mask
Pretty sure they have to be in the same subset to see each other. So USB tether your phone for internet and that should make it easier to deal with the lan. Otherwise you'll need to set the phone as your gateway to draw internet from it and change your IP to be in the same subset ie: 192.168.0.1 192.168.0.21 etc
If you are connected to both your personal lan and the phone then you can access the lan files.

I can't see why an Ethernet connection to your LAN and a WiFi connection to your phone/hotspot couldn't be active at the same time... going to try it just for giggles, will post in a few minutes if it works
---------- Post added at 09:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:59 PM ----------
Well, so far I've tried FoxFi, Barnacle, and SVTP WiFi hotspot apps and each has its own issues with my current nightly install of CM10. FoxFi wouldn't activate, Barnacle would but not broadcast the SSID, and SVTP worked up until connecting to my laptop, connection failed.
Maybe someone on a stock or another ROM can try for you... but heck, try it yourself, nothing to loose!
You may have to sync up the subnets though... make them both 192.168.0.XXX for example.

I may have totally missed this last night but the hotspot feature is built in on the 8-31 nightly. I don't use it very much so I may have missed it last night.

it does work in tandem, however the MUCH slower lan network takes speed precedence over the 4g. speedtests with both running in tandem are stuck at 1mbps as opposed to my usual 20 with 4g. Any thoughts on how to get the 4g speeds to take precedence while still retaining my lan connection?
thanks for the feedback everyone!

You should check the settings for the WiFi network. Make sure gateway is set to the address of the router, DNS server is set to the address provided by your ISP (unless your router is providing a DNS service), and select DHCP as the means to get an IP address, or specify a static address if desired.

The IP address you enter for the gateway address needs to be the local address and not the Internet address. Your router has one address that it presents to other hosts on the Internet, and one that it presents locally to systems on your home network. The former is your public IP address, and it will be assigned by your ISP. If you google "whats my IP address" on a working system on your network, and click one of the links in the result, you'll see your public IP address displayed. This is NOT what you want to enter for gateway address in your network configuration on your HTC.
You need the private address of the router. It probably starts with 192.168, and 192.168.1.1 would be a good guess. You need to consult your router documentation to see what it is. Also note that it could have been changed through the web interface to the router, by whomever configured your router. To verify you have the correct private LAN address, type http://<some IP address> in your browser, and you should see a router configuration screen, probably prompting you for a password. If you can't figure out the LAN address, post the make and model of your wireless router, and we can tell you the default LAN address, or you could google for that info also.
What do you have selected for how the IP address is specified? I guess the precise wording varies from ROM to ROM, but you can either define your own (static) IP address or select to have the router's DHCP server assign an IP address. You should select the latter, as it's simpler to configure. Then you need to make sure you have the correct DNS address. You can probably set this to the router's LAN address, which will work if the router is configured to pass through DNS requests. If that doesn't work, your ISP should somewhere tell you what DNS addresses (prime and backup) you should be using. You could also look at the network config of a working system on your LAN, and copy those settings on your HTC.
When all these settings are made, see if there is a selection to renew the DHCP lease, and do that if you find it. If you don't have that option, and it's still not working, select to "forget" the network, then connect to it again and enter all the settings from scratch and submit it.
Since you're connected to WiFi, it sounds like you have the correct password and security type set. The fact that you're connected to WiFi and not Internet suggests something is wrong with your IP configuration. Hopefully one of the things mentioned above will get you going.
It worked... Thank you

You're welcome. Glad to hear it's working.
Hi guys,
I have a strange problem on my brand new stock Galaxy S7. The IP address displayed on the status menu is wrong. This causes problems to connect to certain home entertainment components like Chromecast, Sonos etc.
The DHCP range for my WLAN is set to 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.150, so why on earth is my S7 reporting 192.168.10.136 as ip address?
All my other components and phones in the house works like a charm with these settings. My previous S5 4G+ also worked on this WLAN without any problems.
Have anybody experienced this problem?
The router is an Asus RT-AC66U with stock firmware.
Thanks!
Has it connected to the 2.4GHz / 5GHz band? Maybe pushing out different DHCP IP Range on that band?
S7 set to Static IP?
Static lease set for the S7 MAC Address in the router?
I think your best bet is to log into the router and see what devices are connected.
Tried both WLAN bands (5 and 2.4 ghz). No difference there. I don't see the phone in the DHCP lease list on my router. Adding a static ip adress to my phones MAC adress on the router works, but this should not be necessary.
Looks like it could be a router issue, similar model here with the same problem
