Sorry if this question doesn't belong here.
I need to know where i can start to make a Custom Rom. I was searching a lot but i was not able to find anything else than the method to make roms for HTC devices using a kitchen, but i need a more general look to know what i need to know to start this project. I was reading on source.android.com but i'm not shure if that's the only material that's actually out there on this topic.
Thanks for the help.
So, there are so many people making really good roms now. even i want to try now
So how do you start cooking roms? or start making themes?
What software is needed? Do you need eclipse? Do you just need a file manager and an unzip utility?
Has anyone created a tutorial on cooking a rom?
I have some skill with android, and am pretty good and flashing and stuff, I wouldnt mind adding root a build that I like or taking something else out. Maybe add an app to the image, or add an option to my recovery image.
Where do I start?

i don't think there will be any "simple how-to's"... cause upon reading, i think this is not something simple...
though, maybe someone can create one... i hope...

Hey guys,
I'm new to this so please be patient with me.
I'm want to try to make my own custom ROM for the Motorola Triumph.
My questions are:
What programs will i need in my ROM kitchen?
What are some good resources for when i get stuck?
What wisdom can you guys share with me?
Check this out in the Chef section, It's a useful way to start basic ROM development and has most if not all the tools you'll need.

Hi guys, I don't know if this is the right place, but I have a question.. I want to build my own version of a rom from a dev github (purity rom). I read some guides but things aren't clear for me.. Can you point me to the right direction? What software do I need and so on.. I saw some people using kitchen, some using architekt, some using Linux and some Windows so a little help is needed.. What I want to do is download the rom from github, change some things like wallpapers, sounds and some apps and then rebuild, no crazy stuff.. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello,
I'm a newbie here.
looking for information on how to build very lean ROM.
under "lean" i mean the following:
is it possible to build Android ROM which has only one app - caller ?
yes, i know it may sound strange but i'm looking into this option.
it would be also good if someone could point at some custom ROM project stripped of Dalvik completely
with some apps in native code (if such does exist...)
i have experience of building Android from source but investigating
this problem made me seeking for community help.
any help appreciated.
thanks for your time.
Hi there,
You must read some guides and tutorials for that. Starting from:
1. This guide about how to port different ROMs to your device.
2. This guide about how to port AOSP ROMs to your device.
3. This guide about how to port a ROM to your device.
4. This guide about how to create a new ROM for your device.
5. This guide for ROM development beginners.
6. This guide in xda university for building your own android rom.
7. This guide in xda university for porting an aosp rom from source.
There are also instructions on the cyanogen mod wiki site about it.
A good place to ask if you have questions about it or need help, is Chef Central - Android. Many devs are watching this forum and can help quickly.
Good luck
Thanks for your answer.
