cm7 sms compose help - HTC Sensation

Hej guys
Hope you guys can help me with this.
New to cm7 and the sms compose field seems so small when typing a message.
I mean on sense there is the possibility to view most of the text when writing but not with the included sms Or keyboard of cm7.
Tried sms pro and its the same.
Does the above make sence?

Try Handcent SMS.

I noticed the same thing. I'm pretty sure it's just the size of the font. I'm sure there will be a fix. I'm sure you have heard it already but it's only the Appha build.

Just noticed it's not possible to see what you're writing in landscape mode. But I don't remember if it was visible on Sense.

About 2 lines of text are viewable on sense stock in landscape mode.

It's a bug... try an aftermarket keyboard (Swype is what I am currently using, no issues).

Installed smart keyboard pro and all is good now. Tried several other keyboards other than stock keyboard and all fixed the small compose field issue.
Just in case it annoys someone else like it did me.

DA Mobile 6 Release 5 RC1 - what happened to the keypad for text messaging

Hi Guys,
I've just upgraded to DA Mobile 6 Release 5 RC1 rom and its working great, but only one minor problem.
ON the last WM5 rom, I could use the on screen keypad to type out a text message, rather than the qwerty on screen or the pad ( i had grown rather used to it).
I cant see the option for using the keypad input anywhere at all in any of the menus.
IS this feature not including in the rom, or am I just being dumb and missing it?
Regards
Goldfish
r u referring to XDA Mobile 6 Release 5 RC1?
your question is kind of jumbled. are you trying to use the on screen keyboard or the hardware keyboard on your device?

Try this out. Touch KeyPad/KeyBoard(Freeware)
ahhh, i get the ? now.
another one is the pocket keyboard, www.pocketcm.com
what i don't understand on both the one werd suggested and pocketkb is why they didn't put a period (.) on the main keyboard instead of having to go somewhere else, it's a hassle when using it to type a web address.
edit: actually just noticed on pocketcm website you are able to configure the keyboard layout, maybe it can be changed to add a period...anywho i don't use either, my fingers are too big lol
thanks for replying guys, sorry my message was a bit garbled.
I tried the touch keypad, but still cannot get the alpha numberical keypad
just like the one in the image under title Touch keyboard v1.0 Description
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-touch-keyboard-v1-0.html
Turn off one touch symbol presses in options. then create a new text message
tried that, didnt make a difference.
After installing touch keyboard, i get the same keyboard lay out on screen, no matter if i pick keypad or keyboard.
beginning to think that the rom may have got corrupted and needs re flashed
you have to be in a spot where you can enter text or else it shows the default keyboard man, that's why i said create a new text message. just read the comments on that page i linked if you have to
I turned off auto substitution and that seemed to fix it.
guys your all great, thanks for the help

Try either of these. I think they will give you what you are looking for... T9 Keypad SIP. The first is English only. The second has lots of international languages.

[Question] Differences in keyboards and prefill/auto-correction.

Hi there,
Thanks as always to all of the developers and pros for indulging my questions.
This post is in 2 parts.
First, has anyone else noticed the different ways that android presents auto completion? For example, with the ION keyboard, when using the mms app, the contact prefill comes in a vertical scrolling menu that has the persons name and part of the phone number. Like so, "John Smith <212-55". This font is medium size and at least gives you part of the persons phone # although it does not give you the number type i.e. mobile.
Sometimes the mms app will display the contacts in the horizontal scroll similar to the spelling auto correction. This is far more convenient in my mind as it alloes me to see all of the phone #.
At the same time, the gmail/mail apps display the contacts in a vertical menu but in a much larger font. So I end up with "John Smi" and no idea which email address. I essentially have to figure out which email address it is by selecting them one by onr until I get the one I want.
Similar issues arise with the HTC/haykuro keyboard except that sometines it's the vertical menu and other times it the floaty horizontal/expandable menu. This particular menu is really annoying in that it will cover half of the screen if there are many contacts that it prefills.
Is there a setting or preference file that can be edited so that the auto corrections/prefills appear the same way?
The second part is to get your opinion in the best keyboard. I understand that there arw three distinct keyboards. The ION keyboard. The HTC keyboard. And haykuro's keyboard.
It appears to me that the ION keyboard is the least liked of the three. I actually prefer the look of it and ot feels to be the fastest, however the spelling correction and predictive text on it is retarded.
HTC's keyboard I find is good for spelling correction and learning user words, but I find that it gets quite slow. Also, I find the keys are harder to hit as they seems smaller but that just might be in my mind.
Haykuro's keyboard doesn't really have anything wrong with it but I just don't like the fact that it doesn't have a uniform look from the alphabet pad with the long press keys to the number pad that just has the single character on each "button".
Anyone want to add their thoughts on their keyboards? Ultimately I'm looking for a fast and smooth typing experience.
Thanks for your time!

SlideIt keyboard

I have been using Swype keyboard for some time and absolutely love it, but have been annoyed about it not having special letters such as used in Scandinavia.
Then Yesterday I fell over a similar keyboard called SlideIt and that works same way as Swype, it just have support for all European languages plus Arabic and Hebrew, plus you can make abbreviations and as a benefit to all those that don't use WM you can also get it for Android and Symbian.
Price is a reasonable 7.99 USD
You read about here: http://www.mobiletextinput.com/
U are scandiavian? Does the keyboard support ÆØÅ?
Yes, I'm Danish.
Yes, as I wrote then it supports all European languages, you download a language pack of your choice, mine was of course Danish and you can just download the Norwegian language pack and in options you choose the language you want as Primary and which one you want as secondary and voila you have all the special characters for Norway.
The only issue is when you have used Swype for some time is that the buttons are a little smaller, but that only takes a day to get used to.
ok, and it works when u flip the phone to the side?
Have to check out the videos on youtube before i decide...
But if anyone else have used this, i would like to know about the feedback..
Brilliant, abselutly brilliant....

SlideIT is the no.1 keyboard for my/the HD2. Far superior over Swype IMHO.

Thanks!!! Certainly the new version kicks the hell out of Swype.
Im Norwegian and have been using SwipeIT since the start. Works fine, but the only issue i have is that it does not work in landscape mode. The keyboard turns all white and the letters are not visible.
Think this is a know'n problem since i have heard some other reports on the same.

it is fixed in the new version, works like a charm
It is really a great keyboard! One issue I have is that it does not detect text selection in HTC Messaging application. I don't think the problem is with SlideIT since it works fine on another text application like Pocket Notepad, and also Swype does not detect selected text also... So probably a problem with HTC Messaging app text selection method...
Anyway it is a great input method and works very good!

Double tap selection never works in HTC Messaging. Long press/hold on the word brings up the editing menu. It's stupid, in my view.

Yeah, I know about the long press editing menu. but even if I select a word with the little pointers (or whatever that things are called) SlideIT does not detect it, so I cannot add/edit/remove that word to/from the SlideIT dictionary like the video here: http://www.mobiletextinput.com/Product/SlideIT/Corrections.php

Ah, yes. I guess that is why so many people are disabling HTC Messaging and using the WM default client. It's better in these areas, but it looks like crap.

I agree! The HTC Messaging app has some serious issues that should get fixed. But it also has some nice features and is pretty
Best app i've downloaded so far, i couldn't be happier
Hi all!
Have just installed SlideIT and i think if i give it some time i will use it before the HD2 original one. But, is there some better looking skins for it? Or at least one with slightly bigger buttons?
Have googled it but i can't find anything that points me in any way that says that someone is making or are going make skins for it.
Can it be done?
In PDF User Manual, I read this:
"The user has the option to introduce a large number of new words into the dictionary rapidly or to even use a customized dictionary. To do this, create a file containing the new words on a PC and then move the file to the device. The user must open the file and select all of its content. Next, tap on the indicator ‘+’. The bulk update is then performed. Note that the maximum length of the selected text is 1000 characters."
But which kind of file I've to create, where I've to put it, and how can I access to it from the keyboard ?

You can use an application like Pocket Notepad with a txt file...
Why is it so much better than swype? I have 0 issues most of the time with swype unless im trying to do a lot of mixed numbers/letters...

Resco Keyboard Pro 6 Beta is out!!!

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6681501
Not affiliated with Resco in anyway, but I want other HD2 owners to try this. I installed it today and must say I'm hugely impressed. It's like our standard HTC keyboard, except it's much more accurate. XT9 is not available, but with accuracy like this, I don't need it anymore. Finally a keyboard that's at least as good as the iPhone one! Beats anything else I've tried so far. Like it's made specifically for HD2 (probably is...)
i prefer it in portrait mode and as you mention its way more accurate but I'm not that fussed with landscape mode and no smilies
Yeah, Landscape mode is missing in this beta version, but I do most of my typing in portrait mode anyway. Still, it's very promising. As for smilies, I guess you can add them yourself in the "FX" page.
Edit: My bad, seems like Landscape mode IS included, but you have to reselect Resco Keyboard everytime when you change from portrait to landscape and vice versa. Still, the landscape mode is buggy, covers the whole SMS screen so you cannot read what you type.
Resco Keyboard Pro 6
Excellent keyboard Thank You It works well with my fingers and so much more accurate than the std one Thanks Where do I get the full version?
how do u install it? im a noob....
Pretty cool keyboard but when I try to type quickly the keyboard keeps switching screens
keyboard is nice but had to go back to default. it keeps switching pages on my if i go too fast, would switch page if i typed to letters really fast
what about t9 or word predoction?
Is this better than the CooTek TouchPal Pro keyboard?
Is this better than the CooTek TouchPal Pro keyboard? I love it for it's finger swiping features. Does this have swiping features as well?
Resco Keyboard Pro 6 beta on my HTC HD2
I've tried many and so far, this is the best! (^_^)
Sure, it needs a fair bit of work to make it fully usable and a complete replacement of any OS included keybaord, but it's very damn close!
Nice work Resco, your products are becoming some of my most favourite essentials and recommended. [^_^]
Looking forward to the final and meanwhile, I'll try to post up some real user feedback tomorrow.
Resco Keybaord Pro 6 (Beta / 3rd June 2010)
So far *2/3*
not sure,
I am not sure why this didnt get more attention but the Resco Keyboard has undergone some additional changes and many of the quirks have been ironed out best of all fixes is the landscape works now and you can actually see what you are typing!
The link to the new download is on post 46 (page 4 or 5 i think)
only problem with this now is that it doesnt support the auto input of contacts when writing an sms. you still have to do the old bacspace once to get a list of possible contacts...was there ever a fix for that bug?
it went final on the 15th june
have you tried the final version?

Keyboard options

I am looking for some options for the on screen keyboard on my HTC HD2. Does anyone have any suggestions for it ?
You can try Finger Keyboard 2.1 . To me it is the best among the others
Why? do you not like the plain look of windows mobile keyboard. I have swype as a second keyboard option.
Search DINIK, he has skinned the normal keyboard. all my friends envy the 3D eye candy keyboard... i definitely display that more than swype now give it a try!
Finger Keyboard 2.1 has skins for it an suports alot of languges
i think you will find it the most sutable kebord for your needs

Depends what youre after. If you like the standard k/board but want a better look, Dinik has a great skin and there are several skins floating around for this.
If you dont like the functionality of it, there are many alternative keyboards. For me i have tried Touchpal (great touch style, layout, fast etc), Swype (many threads and vids on this, no typing, more like sliding), SlideIT (similiar to Swype) etc.
I used to use swype, found out it was the reason my phone was crashing, now i'm using slidet which is similar,no freezing or crashing..

Curious, what version of Swype were you using. Just asking as i use both Swype and SlideIT, i can never make up mind so constantly changing between the 2. SlideIT flows better, faster, abbreviations etc but sometimes i type a certain words and SlideIT just doesnt get it, produces the ?? however type same words with Swype, no problem. SlideIT's ugly too so sometimes like the look of Swpe so ive used both for ages, no probs.
Only problem i had when i had both and Touchpal installed same time. On its own, it worked great but when i had all 3 installed, often the keyboard wouldnt respond so i had to soft reset. Uninstalled Touchpal, problem went away.
try latest Resco Keyboard
