I'm getting bad download speeds with cm7 alpha are you? I am a T-Mobile USA customer. I normally get 9mbps down on beast rom but with the cm7 alpha I'm only getting 2mbps Is there a known fix for the build.prop to improve my data speeds on CM7 Alpha? I posted here because I don't have enough posts to actually leave a comment INSIDE of the CM7 Alpha Thread
I seem to get a lot of network connection issues.

Another day and I still have slow data speeds on cm7
Yeah same here, only while on cm I got horrible data.switched back to bulletproof and my data speeds r back to normal so I dont think its an "outage" issue, atleast not for me. Well, not a biggie, ill just wait till it goes nightly then ill c then

I've got a 1010 Captivate and I'm using the DesignGears leaked Froyo (I know, it's ANCIENT)
But this ROM gives me near or above 3Mbps download speeds.
I just installed the latest Continuum today and struggled with 4 different modem files, switching bands to 850/CDMA, "automatic" band selection and other settings and I could NEVER pull above 1Mbps download.
I reflashed to Elciar and then the Froyo leak and BAM -- 3Mbps again.
What the hell is the deal here? I REALLY want to use a custom ROM but my download speeds are crippled like Timmy.
FWIW, my upload speeds on every ROM I've tried (Cognition, Firefly, Cont) have been GREAT, at or above 1Mbps. Obvioulsly, the Froyo leak not being 'H' enabled caps me at 384Kbps but that isn't my concern.
Why, oh why Captivate gods am I forced to use an OLD Froyo leak.
I've also tried other 2.2 ROMS in the past but now I'm beyond frustrated. I JUST WANT TO USE A CUSTOM ROM and have my download speeds be normal.
What could I possibly be doing wrong??
How many threads are you going to open tonight asking the same question. Just because you reformat the question doesn't mean you should start a new thread.
Just two. Can you please help?
I've tried multiple modem files, multiple bands including automatic. It just doesn't make sense.
I pop back on the Froyo leak and I'm back to 3Mbps+ downloads.
Believe me I wish I could help but here is where I am. I have 2 captivates, one is just a back up, and I have been running cm7 for months on my main one. No issues with speed at all. Flashed jvh on my backup and tried it for a day or two here and there. The overall slowness in data speeds compared to cm7 was enough for me that I flashed my back up back to stock. Question for you.....have you tried cm7? initial install is a lot easier now.
By the way....never did a speed test on jvh....real world use left absolutely no doubt to me it was too slow for me.
I don't have broadband at my current location (Cricket EVDO) so I often tether my phone since I'm still grandfathered into an unlimited plan and so far AT&T hasn't caught me so download speeds are pretty crucial for me.
I'll try CM7 tomorrow. Too tired to spend another 2-3 hours playing with my phone. Thanks for the suggestion!
As some of you have come from the captivate know what I did there with Rom Q&A threads. I am doing the same here. In an effort to clean up the site. All Rom related question shall from now on be posted in the proper Q&A or will be deleted on sight.
I feel like I'm posting incorrectly here but this thread says CM Q&A so if i am I sincerely apologize but here goes nothing...
I'm running Cyanogenmod 7 RC1. Before i installed CM7 i did a wipe of data and cache.
The google navigation app works for about 2 or 3 minutes then loses gps signal. I have to exit navigation then bring it up again and it will immediately get a gps fix then disconnect after another 2-3 minutes. I have really searched around for a fix and i'm not even sure which one to try.
Below are the threads that i have found that may fix the issue. I don't believe they will since the problem isn't getting a fix which it does. It it just losing the fix after a brief period of time.
If i use MapQuest it works flawlessly. It just really bothers me that i can't get a stock app to work...
Which one is the most viable? If non of the threads below will help can you politely point me in the right direction?

When that occurs to me, pulling down the notification toggles and toggling the gps off then on fixed the issue. the gps stays locked for the rest of the trip

This is how it works for me as well. Just toggle GPS off and back on while still in the navigation app. Should come back up and stay on from that point on.
Thanks for your responses guys...I wish there was another way rather than that. I guess it's a small inconvenience for what is my favorite rom.

I have a question about the dialer. I can't seem to quick search the phonebook using the dialpad. Is this a setting I can enable, or does CM not feature that? Thanks in advance.

I definitely liked this rom but for some reason it seemed to drain my battery more than other roms. Not sure what it was but I will try it out again when they update it

I believe that isn't supported in CM7 but i'm not sure. That seemed to be in the sense based roms if I understand what you're asking

There is a way to quick search the phonebook with the stock CM7 dialer, but there's an extra keystroke involved. While the dialer is up on the screen, just press the search button on the bottom right of your phone. Then you can quick search through your contacts.

I had a issue with mytracks and GPS. It seemed to cut out frequently and when the trip was done it logged me as going almost twice as far due to zig zagging in my track.
Very low data speeds in CM7, what gives?
I'm new to android and to rooting. I understand that CM7 does not support 4G, but I'm not even seeing 3G speeds when I have it installed. My speed test results are averaging in the 0.4 - 0.5 mbps range down, and similar or some times better up.
On ANY other rom I see better speeds. I'd be ok with similar speeds to what I saw on my Iphone 3g, but when I tether right now on CM7 it makes me long for the good ole days of dial up. Seriously, I frequently see sub 56kbps speeds.
I WANT to use CM7. I love all the tweaks and features, but the data is so slow! Any suggestions to how I could fix this and get back to my 1.5 mbps 3G speeds?
Radio: 26.06.06.30
RIL: HTC-RIL 2.2.0018G
Kernel (What ever came with the phone? Ive not changed kernels that I'm aware of)
Thanks,
Tom

Did you make sure the APN's are correct? There is a APN thread in the dev forum.. If you are in 4g area you should see faster speeds than 1.5Mb.. Iam in dallas and see 3.5Mb down 1.1Mb up.. Either way, make sure the APN settings are correct.
By chance has anyone's phone gotten laggy at random or where it'll temporarily hang/freeze in the later builds?
I'm trying to figure out what's goin on w/mine.

Something this severe hasn't happened to me yet. I might see a little sluggishness from time to time, but it doesn't cause the phone to hang or freeze.

+1 on one7dchevy's suggestion. CM7 works with HSPA+ / 4G just as well as any other ROM (I've seen speeds up to 6-7Mb/s), as long as you've got the right APN config. Link to the APN thread is in my sig - be careful though, the OP of that thread is a real jerk.
BTW the radio version you're using is just fine - and the RIL that comes with CM7 works fine with that radio.
Posted this question over in the CM forums but they seem to get alot less traffic than here. Figured I'd give it a shot.
Flashed this device a while back. Now it's randomly losing GSM signal, wifi is fine. When I attempt to scan for a network provider it just errors out.
It's a AT&T device, Inspire 4g
It's running: 7.0.3-DesireHD
baseband: 12.39.60.19P_26.06.04.06_M
RIL: HTC-RIL 2.2.0099HM (Jan 27 2011, 16:12:49)
Having to swap to and from airplane mode every few hours to maintain signal is getting old. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as this is my daily handset and I'm missing way to many calls. I've confirmed with my gf's captivate that it's not random network outages.
I even rolled back to an old nandroid backup where this didn't happen and it continues to happen.

From what I've seen with various ROM's -- it seems that the leaked GB on the infuse is garbage with data speeds; you need to pick a compromise between no MMS, lossy data or crappy speeds.
I'm not sure if I understand this right, with the whole APN settings, but I find this incredibly debilitating; I can't really use CM7 or Dlev if I have to give up a vital data feature!
Please clarify this, sorry I'm new from the Inspire
no the Rogers rom has crappy data on att but most att customers wont get very good data anyway. the leaks have about the same data as froyo. and miui and cm7 and the more recent custom kernels get decent speed by using initramfs mods that copy some of what is in the initramfs in the leaks.
in fact the fastest data I have recorded was 10.35mbps or so (close to my cable ISP and faster upload btw) and that was with one of the leaked Roms. the gb=slow data is not really true anymore.
Real odd, I just flashed CM7 and got really lossy data, at times it would just crap out and disappear, yet with stock I get data connection and it sticks. Any reason/fix? I really want to use CM7.

yeah data can be weird. try alternate modem.bin files. there have been new modems with each leak and one may work better than another for your area. but it is possible that for some strange reason your phone and area might just agree with the froyo kernel better. also its possible that miui doesn't have the kernel update that helps data since the thread was closed but if I remember right the changes were there before then. you might want to try flashing the kernel from cm7 just to test things.
there are 2 threads with a collection of modem files in the dev section I hope you find a combo that works for you.
So you suggest I just try different modems until I find one that works? Fun fun!
If you go into the market in CM7 you will lose the data but toggling airplane mode will bring it back.
if you use the one apn trick you should be good. i have no data issues with CM7
Im currently on a call and i took a speed test and im getting .83 down and .43 up. thats on a call.

Awesome, so with CM7 the only data problem you've found was it dropping at times with the market, but that can be solved by toggling airplane and then turning it off?
works great!! Thanks

Simple question. If it ever becomes available (no official updated in well over a month) will you use this as an everyday ROM on your G2X?
I for one may try it out, but as most users have reported on the CM website, CM7 is so broken I may just wait for the stock version.
What do you mean by cm7 is broken? And I very likely would use it?

Here's the way I figures it: my stock ROM was bugged, it took soft bricking it and reloading a stock rom, which went buggy and finally flashing CM7 to get a rom which worked correctly. The only broken thing I notice if DSP manager FC'ing and Volume+ FC'ing, if I compare that to the ton of advantages and the fact it's actually stable OS-wise, I'd rather deal with two apps FC'ing at times then not even being able to text or the responsiveness being so poor that I want to throw the phone at someone.
So, yea, +1 for running CM9 if/when it comes out.
Yeah... I don't think cm7 is broken at all.
Gapps not loading for you is your fault, either you did or didn't flash the right zip, or it's just ignorance on your part.
Of course people will use cm9 if it works for our phone, that's a redundant question. ICS would run so smooth for us if everything works.
Just switched to cm7 because of random reboots and programs closing out while using them on stock.
cm7 is ok so far when i restored everything i got alot of force close but thats all due to mixmatch date since i was on 2.3.3 lg and no on 2.3.7 cm7.
but i got everything to work just find for me. Took the rom apart and repacked it with some stuff.
So what im saying is you probably did something wrong. And i would run cm9 if it came out that would be ICS but also ill be moving to a galaxy s2 by the time it comes out.
CM7 is Gold
Transitioning from the stock G2X ROM, to CM7. CM7 is like Goldmaster for this phone, as good as it gets. Awesome battery life. Usability, No random crashes. It just sounds like you picked a bad version to begin with. Now what built, and nightly were you using. Did you try the stable 7.0.0.1.
Always clear cache & Darvik and then proceed.

Can't say I've tried to send a true mms, just huge texts messages which get sent as an mms. Try an app called Handcent; the stock messaging app is to fail!
Before getting throttled for downloading on a 2g network (so much for that 5gigs of "high-speed" data, liars), youtube worked fine.
GPS issue has nothing (well, almost) nothing to do with CM, there's three threads that I know about regarding gps fixes. The only "gps" problem I notice now is that google maps sucks at getting a lock and I have to use Gps Status to get the satelites homed in on me before Maps will get my location.
I am positive the devs will get us a good working version of ics so when cm9 comes out and is as stable and fast as my current setup i will daily drive it for sure
Making bad decision's one at a time.
Once a working ICS-based build becomes available, I will certainly give it a look.
CM7 is working fine for me, i had to flash the gapps, and its working fine. And yes i would run CM9 when it comes out...
For sure I'll use, cm7 rocks! Hope cm9 goes the same way!!
So I see there is a JB leak out for us, I also checked the radio post over at RootzWiki, now, my question is, with that installed and any JB rom does that mean there will be no more data drops?
Time will tell. Flash and report back. I've been running since it's drop and have not noticed anything significant yet.
I've been running it since it dropped as well and haven't noticed any issues. But i'll let you know more tomorrow after i take it for a full days spin.

I flashed the stock jb rom leak deodexed last night and had the HRE radio... then decided to flash the leaked radio. I like it. In Denver. Good 4g and as you can see the speed tests were better. 3 newest speed tests were with new radio. 3 tests under that were the HRE radio. Within minutes. Same spot. Getting great battery life. So far two thumbs up from this guy.
